Description
TITLE OF INVENTION
A Cruise Control System and a method thereof
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present subject matter relates to a cruise control system for a vehicle. More particularly, the present invention relates to a cruise control system and the method for enabling/disabling the cruise control system in a vehicle.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Cruise control system is a system that automatically controls the speed of a vehicle. The system takes over the throttle of the vehicle to maintain a steady speed as set by the driver. Conventionally, a constant speed running control device for a motorcycle is known that automatically releases constant speed running control (cruise control) when a driver releases his/her hand from an accelerator grip during the constant speed running control.
[0003] Cruise control in a vehicle is adopted to prevent skidding/slipping of a vehicle at a certain running speed of the vehicle at particular terrains. Cruise control in vehicle enables the driver as he doesn’t need to apply acceleration and the vehicle is enabled to maintain the set speed without having the driver to apply throttle. This feature provides some comfort to the rider which reduces the fatigue of the rider when applying throttle for longer time.
[0004] In existing vehicles, cruise control can be made active when the gear engaged is above a particular threshold.
[0005] However, there are certain drawbacks of the known systems. The known art mentions about an automatic clutch control device for setting cruise control in a vehicle which has two different speed thresholds for disengaging clutch during cruise control and when vehicle is not in cruise control. These do not mention the aspect of enabling/activating cruise based on gear position detected.
[0006] Thus, it is important to have a system which can enable/disable the cruise control system based on gear position.
[0007] It is also an object of the present invention to enhance ride comfort affected due to incorrect gear engaged and reduction in rider distraction due to automatic enabling and disabling cruise control.
[0008] It is also an object of the present invention to reduce user fatigue by automating cruise control by taking into account gear change of the vehicle.
[0009] It is also an object of the present invention to enhance user safety by automatically enabling cruise control at a higher speed or a higher gear value.
[00010] The present invention is a cruise control system and a method for enabling and disabling the cruise control using a button at a set speed by the cruise control system.
[00011] The cruise control system comprising a speedometer and the speedometer communicates through a CAN communication network with ABS unit and an EMS unit. The EMS unit receives inputs from an ignition coil and a fuel injector for determining an increase or decrease in throttle input of the vehicle given by the rider and the EMS unit is also configured to receive a gear position sensor input. The ABS unit is configured to receive vehicle speed from the front and rear wheel speed sensors of the vehicle and the ABS controller thereafter sets a cruising speed upon receiving an input from the EMS unit. The gear position value is compared with a predetermined gear position value by the ABS unit. Setting a cruising speed when gear position inputs is greater than predetermined gear position value. It can also disable the cruise control when a steady running condition of the vehicle gets disturbed.
