Description
A rollable door curtain for a roll-up door assembly, a roll-up door assembly comprising the rollable door curtain, and a method for producing the rollable door curtain
Technical field
The present disclosure relates to roll-up doors in general. More specifically, the disclosure relates to a rollable door curtain for a roll-up door assembly, a roll-up door assembly comprising the rollable door curtain and a method for producing the rollable door curtain.
Background art
High-speed roll-up doors have many advantages in situations requiring fast-moving and/or high-volume traffic in and out of a specific area, for instance, to allow for reduced temperature loss and contamination while moving products or parts in and out of a clean room, a food production facility or a machine protection area.
This is achieved by the high-speed roll-up doors comprising rollable door curtains that can be rolled or un-rolled about a rotating axle at high speed, allowing for door openings or similar apertures of large dimensions to be opened and closed in a very short time.
The dimensions of the high-speed roll-up doors depend on application and they are generally having a surface area in the range of 5 to 20 square meters, but can be larger. Hence, the roll-up doors are therefore particularly suitable for closing apertures between two rooms or between a room and the outside in warehouses, workshops, shops, laboratories, and the like.
The rollable door curtains may, however, be exposed to several different external factors, such as wind and rain, impacts with persons or vehicles in movement or with objects placed in the trajectory of the rollable door curtain. This requires the rollable door curtains to be robust and durable as well as lightweight.
The large dimensions and material requirements needed in industry pose further challenges to the manufacturer, transporter and handler of the rollable door curtains. In particular, bulky rollable door curtains are difficult to stack and move efficiently around leading to expensive material handling and transportation costs. Put differently, the size of the rollable door curtains and the packaging are problematic. Products are packed in crates or on racks having several meters length for shipping to the customer, making the shipment very
expensive. To this end, the rollable door curtains are generally made-to-measure on the request from the buyer which may lead to waste of raw material.
There is thus a need for improvements in the industry of roll-up doors and rollable door curtains. There is in particular a need for rollable door curtains that allow for easier handling and cost-efficient transport. There is further a need to reduce material waste in the production of rollable door curtains. There is also a need to increase sustainability and reduce the environmental foot print for roll-up doors.
It is an object of the present disclosure to mitigate, alleviate or eliminate one or more of the above-identified deficiencies and disadvantages in the prior art and solve at least the above-mentioned problems.
According to a first aspect there is provided a rollable door curtain for a roll-up door assembly. The rollable door curtain comprising: a first segment; a second segment; wherein each of the first and second segments extends in length in a longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite lateral edges, wherein the first and second segments (102, 104) are rollable along the longitudinal direction XI, and wherein the first and second segments are arranged adjacent to each other in a transversal direction X2, thereby forming a folding region between a lateral edge of the first segment and a lateral edge of the second segment; and a first connection strip arranged to span the folding region and connect the lateral edge of the first segment and the lateral edge of the second segment such that the rollable door curtain is foldable, along the folding region, between an unfolded state, in which the first and second segments are arranged in the same plane and a folded state, in which the first and second segments are folded at least partly on top of each other, wherein the rollable door curtain is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI upon being in the folded state.
A possible advantage of the provided rollable door curtain is that it is foldable in an efficient manner. An easier handling of the rollable door curtain is thereby achieved. The rollable door curtain may moreover be folded while mitigating damage or wrinkling of the
segments. Put differently, a rollable door curtain is provided that can be folded in such a manner that the folds do not harm the material of the rollable door curtain or leave visible markings there on. The provided rollable door curtain may further be folded and rolled thereafter leading to a simpler handling thereof. The rollable door curtain that may also be stacked in an efficient manner. By way of example, several folded rollable door curtains may be stacked on top of each other reducing for instance storage space.
The rollable door curtain may further be folded and rolled up in such a way that the final product may be compact in size and it may be packed inside a small crate, e.g. a euro pallet box. Using standardized pallets makes it possible to increase the number of rollable doors curtains that are loaded onto a truck. This volume reduction makes transportation more efficient, saving cost and reducing emissions. Shipment of a replacement curtain may also be cheaper as the package will be smaller.
The material waste may further be reduced as the rollable door curtain may be formed by separate segment. Efficient use of smaller pieces of material for the segments may therefore be achieved. Repair of such rollable door curtains may also be simplified. By way of example, one of the segments may be replaced in an efficient manner. Thus, the recycling of used rollable door curtain may further be improved.
The wording "adjacent" should here be construed as at the two segments being arranged next to each other. Put differently, the two segments are to be understood as being arranged juxtaposed. The segments may be abutting. The segments may be in at least partial contact with each other along connecting lateral edges. The segments may at least partly overlap within the folding region. Put differently, portions of the lateral edges of the adjacent segments may be overlapping. The segments may alternatively be apart from each other.
The wording adjacent may, moreover, be understood as the segments being separated less than 5 cm from each other, preferably less than 4 cm, more preferably less than 1 cm from each other. The folding region should be construed as a portion of the rollable door curtain at which it is arranged to be folded. The folding region may be understood as to form a fold axis. The folding axis may be parallel to the longitudinal axis.
The wording "rollable" should here be interpreted as the segments, and thereby the rollable door curtain, being arranged to be rolled. The connection strip is further to be understood to be rollable. The rollable curtain is thereby arranged to be rollable around a
rotational axis. The rotational axis being parallel to the transversal direction X2. The rollable door curtain is further be understood to be rollable in both the folded and the unfolded state.
The material or materials of the segments and/or the connection strips may be understood as being flexible.
The wording on "at least partly on top of each other" should be construed as one of the segments, when the rollable door curtain is in the folded state, is placed on the other segment such that the two segments are at least partly overlapping. Put differently, the respective main surfaces of the two segments may be in contact and at least partly overlap. One part of the rollable door curtain is thereby laid over another part of the same. In other words, in the folded state the first segment and the second segment may be understood to be placed in a first plane and a second plane, respectively, wherein the first and the second planes are parallel planes. The first and the second planes may be in contact with each other. The first and the second segments may have the same or different dimensions.
According to some embodiments, the first and second segments may be arranged at a distance from each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming a gap between the lateral edge of the first segment and the lateral edge of the second segment.
A possible advantage of this embodiment is that the tolerance for the folding region is increased. The gap allows for play at least in the transversal direction between the adjacent segments. Constraints on the alignment of the segments are further reduced.
According to some embodiments, the first and second segments may extend in the longitudinal direction XI between two opposite transversal edges, and wherein the first connection strip spans between the transversal edges. An advantage being that the adjacent edges of the first and second segments are covered. A more robust rollable door curtain is provided.
The wording "span the folding region" should in this context be understood as the first connection strip extending at least along the major part of the length of the lateral edges of the first and second segments that are arranged next to each other such that the interface or gap in between the lateral edges is covered. Put differently, the extension of the connection strip could be fully along the lateral edges. The extension of the connection strip could alternatively span a major part of the lateral edges. The major part may, by way of example, may be in the order of 90 to 95 percent of the distance between two opposite transversal edges. A remaining edge portion, at the periphery of the first and second segments, extending
about 5 to 10 percent of the distance may according to some examples be without the connection strip. The remaining edge portion may be covered or protected by other means. By way of example, the remaining edge portion may be covered when the rollable door curtain is rolled up and/or by a weight portion or a bar that is attached to a lower portion of the rollable door curtain to achieve a stretching force during rolling and unrolling.
The two opposite transversal edges pertain to transversal edges of the first and the second segments. The first and the second segments may have the same length in the longitudinal direction XI.
According to some embodiments, the first connection strip may be attached to and overlap a portion of the first and the second segments, respectively. A robust and durable folding region is thereby provided.
The first connection strip may be attached to the first and the second segments such that a bond is formed between them. The bonding may advantageously be formed by welding. Alternatively, glue may be use for the connecting the connection strip to the first and the second segments. Alternatively, or in combination stitching may be used, to reinforce a welding or gluing.
According to some embodiments, the first and the second segments may each be provided with a front side and a back side, and wherein the first connection strip is attached to the back sides of the first and the second segments and wherein the rollable door curtain is foldable, along the folding region, such that the front sides are facing toward each other in the folded state.
A possible advantage being that the front sides may be protected in the folded state. The folding along the foldable region further reduces problems associated with wrinkling or markings on the front sides. The lateral edges may moreover be protected along the folding region.
According to some embodiments, the first and the second segments may each be provided with a front side and a back side, and wherein the first connection strip is attached to the back sides of the first and second segments and wherein the door curtain is foldable, along the folding region, such that the front sides are facing away from each other in the folded state.
A possible advantage being that a more compact folding of the rollable door curtain is provided. The separation between the adjacent segments may further be made smaller while still allowing for the folding. The strain induced on the connection strip may further be reduced as the rollable door curtain is folded.
According to some embodiments, the rollable door curtain may further comprise: a third segment, wherein the third segment extends in length in the longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges, wherein the third segment is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI, wherein the second and the third segments are arranged adjacent to each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming an additional folding region between a lateral edge of the second segment and a lateral edge of the third segment; and wherein the rollable door curtain further comprises a second connection strip arranged to span the additional folding region and connect the lateral edge of the second segment and the lateral edge of the third segment such that the rollable door curtain is foldable, along the additional folding region, between an unfolded state, in which the second and the third segments are arranged in the same plane and a folded state, in which the second and the third segments are folded at least partly on top of each other, wherein the rollable door curtain is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI upon being in the folded state.
A larger rollable door curtain may thereby be provided. Multiple of segments may be added together to form the rollable door curtain. A larger freedom to build the rollable door curtain is thereby achieved.
The second and the third segments may be arranged at a distance from each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming an additional gap between the lateral edge of the second segment and the lateral edge of the third segment.
The additional gap may have the same width as the gap formed between the first and the second segment. The additional gap may alternatively differ in width.
According to some embodiments, the third segment may extend in the longitudinal direction XI between two opposite transversal edges, and wherein the second connection strip span between the transversal edges of the second and the third segments.
A possible advantage being that the adjacent edges of the second and third segments are covered. A more robust rollable door curtain is provided. Further features and advantages
as described in relation to the first connection strip spanning between the transversal edges of the first and the second segments apply also here to the second connection strip.
The second and the third segments may have the same length in the longitudinal direction XI.
According to some embodiments, the third segment may be provided with a front side and a back side, corresponding respectively to the front sides and back sides of the first and second segments, and wherein the second connection strip is attached to the either both front sides or both back sides of the second and third segments.
According to some embodiments, the third segment is provided with a front side and a back side, wherein the first connection strip may be attached to the front sides of the first and second segments and the second connection strip may be attached to the back sides of the second and third segments or vice versa.
A possible advantage being that an efficient folding of the rollable door curtain is provided. The folding may be understood as a zig-zag folding or Z-folding. A more compact folding of the rollable door curtain is achieved. A reduced wear and or wrinkling of the segments may thereby be obtained when folding the rollable door curtain.
According to some embodiments the rollable door curtain may be foldable such that in the folded state the first and second segments are at least partly on top and in contact with each other and the second and third segments are at least partly on top and in contact with each other.
According to some embodiments two adjacent segments may each comprise a weight portion, the weight portions being arranged at a bottom distal portion of the rollable door curtain, wherein the weight portions are separated from each other at a distance equal to or larger than the separation between the lateral edges of the adjacent segments.
A possible advantage being that the rollable door curtain may be efficiently folded with the weight portions attached thereto. A more compact folded rollable door curtain is thereby provided that is easier to handle and transport. The weight portions are arranged to provide a stretching force when the rollable door curtain is raised or lowered, i.e. rolled or unrolled during operation in a roll-up door assembly. The weight portions may have the desired weight to provide the stretching force. The weight portions may alternatively comprise pockets
arranged to receive weights such as metal rods or similar materials or objects providing the desired stretching force.
According to a second aspect there is provided a roll-up door assembly for covering a door opening. The roll-up door assembly comprising the rollable door curtain as described above. The roll-up door assembly further comprising a drum and an engine, wherein the rollable door curtain is attached to the drum at a top distal portion of the rollable door curtain and the engine is arranged to roll and unroll the rollable door curtain around the drum such that the rollable door curtain is movable along the longitudinal direction XI to cover or uncover the door opening.
Effects and features of the second aspect are to a large extent analogous to those described above in connection with the first aspect. Embodiments mentioned in relation to the first aspect are largely compatible with the second aspect.
The top distal portion is to be understood as being arranged opposite to the bottom end portion of the rollable door curtain.
According to some embodiments the roll-up door assembly may comprise one or more weight portions that are attached to the bottom distal portions of one or more the segments. The one or more weight portions may be removably attached the one or more segments.
According to a third aspect there is provided a method for producing the rollable door curtain. The method comprising: providing a first segment and a second segment; wherein each of the first and second segments is extending in length in a longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges, wherein the first and second segments are rollable along the longitudinal direction XI; arranging the first and second segments adjacent to each other in a transversal direction X2, thereby forming a folding region between a lateral edge of the first segment and a lateral edge of the second segment; providing a first connection strip; arranging the first connection strip to span the folding region; and connecting the first connection strip to the lateral edge of the first segment and the lateral edge of the second segment.
The first connection strip is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI.
Effects and features of the third aspect are to a large extent analogous to those described above in connection with the first and second aspects. Embodiments mentioned in relation to the first and second aspect are largely compatible with the third aspect.
According to some embodiments, the method may further comprise: providing a third segment, the third segment extending in length in the longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges, wherein the third segment is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI; arranging the second and third segments adjacent to each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming an additional folding region between a lateral edge of the second segment and a lateral edge of the third segment; and providing a second connection strip; and arranging the second connection strip to span the additional folding region; and connecting the lateral edge of the second segment and the lateral edge of the third segment.
The first and the second connection strips are rollable along the longitudinal direction XI.
The segments and the connection strips are rollable around a rotation axis, the rotation axis being parallel to the transversal direction X2.
According to some embodiments, the first and second segments may each have corresponding front sides and opposite back sides, wherein the first connection strip is attached to a back side of the first segment and to a front side of the second segment or vice versa.
According to some embodiments, the second and third segments may each have corresponding front sides and opposite back sides, wherein the second connection strip is attached to a back side of the second segment and to a front side of the third segment or vice versa.

The present disclosure will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which preferred example embodiments of the disclosure are shown. The disclosure may, however, be embodied in other forms and should not be construed as limited to the herein disclosed embodiments. The disclosed embodiments are provided to fully convey the scope of the disclosure to the skilled person.
With reference to Figure 1, a perspective top view of a rollable door curtain 100 for a roll-up door assembly is exemplified. The rollable door curtain 100 comprising: a first segment 102 and a second segment 104. Each of the first and the second segments 102, 104 extends in length in a longitudinal direction XI. Each of the first and the second segments 102, 104 is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI. Hence, each of the first and the second segments 102, 104 is rollable around a rotational axis being perpendicular to the longitudinal direction XI. The segments extend in width between two opposite lateral edges 106, 108. The two segments 102, 104 are here exemplified to have the same width. The segments may in other examples have different widths. The two segments 102, 104 are here further illustrated as rectangular segments. One or both segments 102, 104 may have a different shape such as quadratic shape.
The first and second segments 102, 104 are arranged adjacent to each other in a transversal direction X2, thereby forming a folding region 110 between a lateral edge 106 of the first segment 102 and a lateral edge 108 of the second segment 104.
The rollable door curtain 100 further comprise a first connection strip 112. The first connection strip 112 is arranged to span the folding region 110 and connect the lateral edge 106 of the first segment 102 and the lateral edge 108 of the second segment 104. The first connection strip 112 is attached to the two segments 102, 104 whereby they are connected. A hinge or joint like arrangement is thereby formed along the folding region 110 such that the rollable door curtain 100 is foldable along the folding region 110. Put differently, the rollable door curtain 100 is foldable between the boarders of the lateral edges of the adjacent segments 102, 104. The folding region 110 may according to some embodiments be understood as hinge like structure formed by the connection strip, the hinge like structure being foldable at the line or intervening space formed in between the adjacent segments 102, 104. The rollable door curtain 100 provided is thus foldable, along the folding region 110, between an unfolded state and a folded stated. In the unfolded state 114 the first and the second segments 102, 104 are arranged in the same plane, as illustrated in Figure 1. In the
folded state the first and the second segments 102, 104 are folded at least partly on top of each other, as will be described further.
The first and the second segments 102, 104 may form essentially planar surfaces.
The segments 102, 104 are here exemplified as being made of polypropylene. The segments may, in other examples, be made of any material conventionally used in rollable door curtains for a roll-up door assembly. The material may be a fabric of polyester or aramid fibres. The fibres may be impregnated with a polymer. The polymer may be PVC, polyurethane or silicone.
By way of example, the segments may be made of a fabric. The fabric may comprise polyester, polyamide, glass fibre, polyolefin or aramide.
By way of example, the segments may be coated. The coating may comprise Silicone, Polyurethane, PVC, Acrylic, Phenolic, Rubber or Polyolefin. The segments may be made of coated fabrics. The first connection strip may be made of the same material as the segments.
By way of example the thickness of the segments may be in the order of 0.5 mm to 4 mm, preferable 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm. The segments may have different thicknesses.
According to this example, the first and the second segments 102, 104 are arranged at a distance from each other in the transversal direction X2. The first and the second segments 102, 104 thereby form a gap 111 between the lateral edge 106 of the first segment 102 and the lateral edge 108 of the second segment 104.
By way of example, the thickness of the segments 102, 104 may be in the order of 1 mm.
By way of example, the gap may be in the range of 1 mm to 10 mm, preferably between 4 mm to 6 mm.
The first and the second segments 102, 104 may extend in the longitudinal direction XI between two opposite transversal edges 118, 120. The first connection strip 112 may, moreover, span between the transversal edges 118, 120. The segments 102, 104 and the first connection strip 112 may thereby jointly form a surface. The rollable door curtain 100 may thereby be arranged to cover a door opening. A more complete sealing of a door opening may thereby be achieved.
Figure 1 further exemplifies that the first connection strip 112 may be attached to and overlap a portion 122 of the first and the second segments 102, 104, respectively. A robust folding region 110 may thereby be achieved.
The first and the second segments 102, 104 are each provided with a front side 124 and a back side 126. The front side 124 and the back side are separated from each other by the thickness of the segments 102, 104. The front and back sides 124, 126 are opposite sides to each other.
By way of example, the first connection strip 112 is attached to the back sides 126 of the first and second segments 102, 104. The rollable door curtain 100 may therefore be foldable, along the folding region 110, such that the front sides 124 are facing toward each other in a folded state 116. The rollable door curtain 100 is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI upon being in the folded state 116.
By way of example, the first connection strip 112 is attached to the back sides 126 of the first and second segments 102, 104 and the rollable door curtain 100 may also or alternatively be foldable, along the folding region 110, such that the front sides 124 are facing away from each other in the folded state 120. Put differently, the folding region 110 may be arranged to fold the rollable door curtain in two different directions. A simpler folding of the rollable door curtain 100 is thereby provided.
With reference to Figure 2, a perspective top view of a rollable door curtain 100 for a roll-up door assembly is exemplified. The rollable door curtain 100 may be the same as or similar to the rollable door curtains as described in connection with Figure 1. The rollable door curtain 100 further comprises a third segment 128. The third segment 128 may be similar to the first and the second segments 102, 104. The segments 102, 104, 128 may be made of the same material. The segments 102, 104, 128 may have the same dimensions. The third segment 128 may correspondingly extend in length in the longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges 106, 108. The third segment 128 being rollable along the longitudinal direction XI. Hence, the third segments 128 is rollable around a rotational axis being perpendicular to the longitudinal direction XI. The second and third segments 104, 128 may be arranged adjacent to each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming an additional
folding region 130 between a lateral edge 106 of the second segment 104 and a lateral edge 108 of the third segment 128, as illustrated in Figure 2.
The rollable door curtain 100 in Figure 2, may further comprise a second connection strip 132. The second connection strip 132 may be similar to the first connection strip described above. The specifics and advantages of the first connection strip 112 may therefore be understood to apply to the second connection strip 132 as well. The first and the second connection strips 112, 132 may have the same dimension. The first and the second connection strips 112, 132 may be made of the same material. The material of the first connection strip 112 and/or the second connection strip 132 may be the same material as that of the segments 102, 104, 128 of the rollable door curtain 100.
The third segment 128 may extend in the longitudinal direction XI between two opposite transversal edges 118, 120. The second connection strip 132 span between the transversal edges 118, 120 of the second and the third segments 104, 128. The third segment may have the same length along the longitudinal direction XI as the first and the second segments 102, 104. The second connection strip 132 may have the same length as the first connection strip 112.
The third segment 128 may moreoverform an essentially planar surface. The second and third segments 104, 128 and the second connection strip 132 may jointly form a surface. To this end, the three segments and the two connection strips 112, 132 may form a joint surface as illustrated in Figure 2. The rollable door curtain 100 is moreover foldable, at the additional folding region 130, between an unfolded state 114, in which the second and third segments 104, 128 are arranged in the same plane and a folded state 116, in which the second and third segments 104, 128 are folded at least partly on top of each other. The rollable door curtain 100 is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI upon being in the folded state 116.
It may further be noted that in other embodiments that rollable door curtain may comprise more than three segments. Correspondingly, the rollable door curtain may comprise more than two connection strips.
In correspondence with the above description related to Figure 1, the third segment 128 is provided with a front side 124 and a back side 126, corresponding respectively to the front
sides 124 and back sides 126 of the first and second segments 102, 104. The second connection strip 132 may be attached to the either both front sides 124 or both back sides 126 of the second and third segments 104, 128.
As exemplified in Figure 2, the first connection strip 112 may be attached to the back sides 126 of the first and the second segments 102, 104. The second connection strip 132 may further be attached to the front sides 124 of the second and the third segments 104, 128. An efficient folding of the rollable door curtain may thereby be provided. Put differently, the first and the second connection strips 112, 132 are attached to opposite sides of the segments 102, 104, 128. A compact folding may thereby be achieved.
According to other embodiments, the second connection strip may further be attached to the respective back sides of the second and the third segments and the first connection strip may be attached to the respective front sides of the first and the second segments.
According to other embodiments the first and the second connection strips are attached to the same side of the segments. By way of example, the first connection strip may be attached to the front side of the first and the second segments and the second connection strip may be attached also to the front side of the second and the third segments. Alternatively, the first and the second connection strips are attached to the back sides of the segments.
The rollable door curtain 100 may thereby is foldable such that in the folded state the first and second segments 102, 104 are at least partly on top and in contact with each other and the second and third segments 104, 128 are at least partly on top and in contact with each other.
In Figure 2, the second and third segments 104 128 are arranged at a distance from each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming an additional gap 131 between the lateral edge 106 of the second segment 104 and the lateral edge 108 of the third segment 128.
The additional gap 131 may have the same dimensions as the gap 111 discussed above. By way of example, the additional gap may be in the range of 1 mm to 10 mm, preferably between 4 mm to 6 mm.
Figures 3a to 3e show general perspective views of rollable door curtains for a roll-up door assembly, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure.
With reference to Figure 3a, 3b, and 3c, a rollable door curtain 100 comprising three segments 102, 104, 128 is illustrated. The segments 102, 104, 128 are, by way of example, arranged at a distance from each other thereby forming a gap 111 between the lateral edge of the first segment and the lateral edge of the second segment and an additional gap 131 between the lateral edge of the second segment and the lateral edge of the third segment. A folding region 110 and an additional folding region 130 are moreover formed between lateral edges of the adjacent segments 102, 104, 128 such that rollable door curtain 100 is foldable, along the folding region 110 and along the additional folding region 130. The rollable door curtain 100 is thereby foldable between a folded and an unfolded state.
Figure 3a illustrates, by way of example, a partial folding of the rollable door curtain 100 and Figure 3b illustrates an intermediate folded state in which the rollable door curtain 100 has been folded to a larger extent than in Figure 3a. Figure 3c illustrates the rollable door curtain 100 in the folded state 116. In Figure 3c, the adjacent segments are folded on top of each other. From Figure 3c it is further visible that first connection strip 112 and the second connection strip 132 are attached to the segments 102, 104, 128 such that the rollable door curtain 100 is foldable, along the respective folding regions 110, 130 in a z-fold. Thus, the rollable door curtain 100 may be foldable such that in the folded state 116 the first and second segments 102, 104 are at least partly on top and in contact with each other and the second and third segments 104, 128 are at least partly on top and in contact with each other.
The connection strips 112, 132 are arranged such that the rollable door curtain 100 is foldable along the folding regions 110, 130 to a folded state where the connection strips 112, 132 are arranged around the lateral edges of adjacent segments in the folded state. The lateral edges of the rollable door curtain may thereby be protected along the respective folding regions 110, 130.
Figures 3d and Figure 3e illustrate a rollable door curtain 100 according to other embodiments. In Figure 3d a partial folding of a rollable door curtain 100 is illustrated. The connection strips 112, 132 are arranged such that the rollable door curtain 100 is foldable along the folding regions 110, 130 to a folded state where the connection strips 112, 132 are arranged in between adjacent segments. The strain induced on the connection strips 112, 132 may thereby be reduced as the rollable door curtain 100 is folded. Stress on connection areas at which the connection strips are attached to segments may be reduced during folding and/or in the folded state.
Figure 3e illustrates, by way of example, a rollable door curtain 110 according to other embodiments wherein the connection strips 112, 132 are arranged such that in the folded state one of the connection strips 112 is arranged in between adjacent segment and the other connection strip 132 is arranged around the lateral edges of adjacent segments in a folded state.
Figure 4 shows a general perspective view of a roll-up door assembly according to some embodiments. The roll-up door assembly 200 comprises a rollable door curtain 100 as described above. The roll-up door assembly further comprises a drum 204 and an engine. The rollable door curtain 100 is attached to the drum 204 at a top distal portion 208 of the rollable door curtain 100. The engine 206 is arranged to drive a rotation of the drum 204. In more detail, the engine 206 is arranged to roll and unroll the rollable door curtain 100 around the drum 204 such that the rollable door curtain 100 is movable along the longitudinal direction XI to cover and uncover the door opening 202.
Figure 4 further illustrates that two adjacent segments 102, 104 may each comprise a weight portion 134, the weight portions 134 being arranged at a bottom distal portion 136 of the door curtain 100, wherein the weight portions 134 are separated from each other at a distance 138 equal to or larger than the separation between the lateral edges of the adjacent segments 102, 104.
According to other embodiments the roll-up door assembly may comprise a rollable door segment having one or more weight portions that are attached to the second distal portions of one or more the segments. The one or more weight portions may be removably attached the one or more segments.
The rollable door curtain may further comprise a pair of retaining strips, the retaining strips being arranged at the distal lateral edges of the rollable door curtain.
The rotation of the drum 204 may be rotating around a rotational axis 140, the rotational axis being parallel to the transversal direction X2.
The segments may be equipped with one or more windows or vision panels. A modular system for providing a rollable door curtain having windows or vision panels may thereby be provided. An increased freedom when designing a rollable door curtain having windows or vision panels at a desired position at the rollable door curtain is provided.
Figure 5 illustrates, by way of example, a method for producing the rollable door curtain according to some embodiments. The method 300 comprises: providing 302 a first segment 102 and a second segment 104. Each of the first and the second segments 102, 104 may extend in length in a longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges 106, 108, wherein the first and second segments 102, 104 are rollable along the longitudinal direction XI; arranging 304 the first and second segments 102, 104 adjacent to each other in a transversal direction X2, thereby forming a folding region 110 between a lateral edge 106 of the first segment 102 and a lateral edge 108 of the second segment 104; providing 306 a first connection strip 112; arranging 308 the first connection strip 112 to span the folding region 110; and connecting 310 the first connection strip 112 to the lateral edge 106 of the first segment 102 and the lateral edge 108 of the second segment 104.
With reference to Figure 5 and Figure 1, a rollable door curtain is thereby obtained, which is foldable, along the folding region 110, between an unfolded state 114, in which the first and second segments 102, 104 are arranged in the same plane and a folded state 116, in which the first and second segments 102, 104 are folded at least partly on top of each other.
The method 300 may further be comprise folding the rollable door curtain along the folding region such that the first and second segments, are folded at least partly on top of each other.
The method may further comprise rolling the folded rollable door curtain. Put differently, the method may comprise rolling the folded rollable door curtain comprising the first and second segments 102, 104. The rolling may be around a rotation axis being perpendicular to the longitudinal direction XI.
With reference to Figure 5 and Figure 2, the method 300 may further comprise: providing 312 a third segment 128, the third segment 128 extending in the longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges 106, 108, wherein the third segment is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI;
arranging 314 the second and third segments 104, 128 adjacent to each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming an additional folding region 130 between a lateral edge 106 of the second segment 104 and a lateral edge 108 of the third segment 128; and providing 316 a second connection strip 132; and arranging 318 the second connection strip 132 to span the additional folding region 130; and connecting 320 the lateral edge 106 of the second segment 104 and the lateral edge 108 of the third segment 128.
The method 300 may further be comprise folding the rollable door curtain at the along the additional folding region such that the second and third segments, are folded at least partly on top of each other.
The method 300 may further comprise rolling the folded rollable door curtain. Put differently, the method 300 may comprise rolling the folded rollable door curtain comprising the first, second and third segments 102, 104, 128. The rolling may be around a rotation axis being perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.
Figures 6a to 6c show generally perspective views of rollable door curtains for a roll-up door assembly, according to some embodiments. With reference to Figure 6a, a rollable door curtain 100 comprising three segments 102, 104, 128 is illustrated. The segments 102, 104, 128 are, by way of example, arranged in contact with the adjacent segment or segments. Put differently, neighboring segments are abutting. The adjacent lateral edges are thereby in contact with each other.
With reference to 6b, a rollable door curtain 100 comprising three segments 102, 104, 128 is illustrated. The rollable door curtain 100 further comprises a first and a second connection strip 112, 132. By way of example, the first connection strip 112 is attached to the font side 124 of the first segment 124 and to the back side 126 of the second segment 104. The rollable door curtain 100 may therefore be foldable along the folding region 110. By way of example, the second connection strip 132 is attached to the front side 124 of the second segment 104 and to a back side of the third segment 128. The rollable door curtain 100 may therefore be foldable, along the additional folding region 130. Figure 6c illustrates the same rollable door curtain 100 as in Figure 6b in an intermediate folding state.
Thus, according to some embodiments the first and/or the second connection strips may alternatively be attached to a front side of one of the adjacent segments and to the back side of the other adjacent segment.
According to some embodiments, the rollable door curtain may comprise an additional connection strip. The additional connection strip is arranged opposite to the connection strips described above. The connection strip and the additional connection strip may thereby be understood to be arranged at opposite sides of the segments. The additional connection strip may span the folding region and connect the lateral edge of two adjacent segments on the opposite side of the connection strip. The connection strip and the additional connection strip may enclose the folding region.
In the above description the longitudinal direction XI pertains to a direction along which the rollable door curtain is arranged to be rolled or unrolled when forming part or a roll-up door assembly. The longitudinal direction may therefore be understood as a vertical direction. It may, however, be noted that in other embodiments the longitudinal direction may be understood as a horizontal direction.
By way of example the segments may be of the same width. The width may be in the range of 500 mm to 1 000 mm, preferably between 600 mm and 700 mm.
By way of example the segments may be of the same length. The length may be in the range of 2 000 mm to 5 000 mm, preferably between 3 000 mm and 4000 mm.
By way of example a rollable door curtain may have a width of 3 m. To transport a roll-up door curtain of such a dimension, there may therefore be required a packaging that is a bit longer. The rollable door curtain 100 may however comprise three segments 102, 104, 128 each having the width less than or about 1 m. The door curtain be foldable such that it fits in a smaller packaging, e.g. in the order of a 1 m packaging.
The person skilled in the art realizes that the present disclosure is not limited to the preferred embodiments described above. The person skilled in the art further realizes that modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the appended claims.
For example, according to one embodiment a rollable door curtain 100 for a roll-up door assembly 200 is provided. The rollable door curtain 100 comprising a first segment 102; and a
second segment 104. Each of the first and second segments 102, 104 is rollable and extends in a longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite lateral edges 106, 108, and wherein the first and second segments 102, 104 are arranged adjacent to each other in a transversal direction X2, thereby forming a folding region 110 between a lateral edge 106 of the first segment 102 and a lateral edge 108 of the second segment 104. A first connection strip 112 is arranged to span the folding region 110 and connect the lateral edge 106 of the first segment 102 and the lateral edge 108 of the second segment 104 such that the rollable door curtain 100 is foldable, along the folding region 110, between an unfolded state 114, in which the first and second segments 102, 104 are arranged in the same plane and a folded state 116, in which the first and second segments 102, 104 are folded at least partly on top of each other.
Additionally, variations to the disclosed embodiments can be understood and effected by the skilled person in practicing the claimed disclosure, from a study of the drawings, the disclosure, and the appended claims.
Claims
1. A rollable door curtain (100) for a roll-up door assembly (200), the rollable door curtain (100) comprising: a first segment (102); a second segment (104); wherein each of the first and second segments (102, 104) extends in length in a longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite lateral edges (106, 108), wherein the first and second segments (102, 104) are rollable along the longitudinal direction XI, and wherein the first and second segments (102, 104) are arranged adjacent to each other in a transversal direction X2, thereby forming a folding region (110) between a lateral edge (106) of the first segment (102) and a lateral edge (108) of the second segment (104); and a first connection strip (112) arranged to span the folding region (110) and connect the lateral edge (106) of the first segment (102) and the lateral edge (108) of the second segment (104) such that the rollable door curtain (100) is foldable, along the folding region (110), between an unfolded state (114), in which the first and second segments (102, 104) are arranged in the same plane and a folded state (116), in which the first and second segments (102, 104) are folded at least partly on top of each other, wherein the rollable door curtain (100) is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI upon being in the folded state (116).
2. The rollable door curtain according to claim 1, wherein the first and second segments (102, 104) are arranged at a distance from each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming a gap (111) between the lateral edge (106) of the first segment (102) and the lateral edge (108) of the second segment (104).
3. The rollable door curtain according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the first and second segments (102, 104) extend in the longitudinal direction XI between two opposite transversal edges (118, 120), and wherein the first connection strip (112) spans between the transversal edges (118, 120).
4. The rollable door curtain according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the first connection strip (112) is attached to and overlap a portion (122) of the first and the second segments (102, 104), respectively.
5. The rollable door curtain according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein each of the first and the second segments (102, 104) is provided with a front side (124) and a back side (126), and wherein the first connection strip (112) is attached to the back sides (126) of the first and the second segments (102, 104) and wherein the rollable door curtain (100) is foldable, along the folding region (110), such that the front sides (124) are facing toward each other in the folded state (116).
6. The rollable door curtain according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein each the first and the second segments (102, 104) is provided with a front side (124) and a back side (126), and wherein the first connection strip (112) is attached to the back sides (126) of the first and the second segments (102, 104) and wherein the rollable door curtain (100) is foldable, along the folding region (110), such that the front sides (124) are facing away from each other in the folded state (116).
7. The rollable door curtain according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the rollable door curtain (100) further comprises: a third segment (128), wherein the third segment (128) extends in length in the longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges (106, 108), wherein the third segment (128) is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI, wherein the second and third segments (104, 128) are arranged adjacent to each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming an additional folding region (130) between a lateral edge (106) of the second segment (104) and a lateral edge (108) of the third segment (128); and wherein the rollable door curtain (100) further comprises a second connection strip (132) arranged to span the additional folding region (130) and connect the lateral edge (106) of the second segment (104) and the lateral edge (108) of the third segment (128) such that the rollable door curtain (100) is foldable, along the additional folding region (130), between an unfolded state (114), in which the second and the third segments (104, 128) are arranged in the same plane and a folded state (116), in which
the second and the third segments (104, 128) are folded at least partly on top of each other, wherein the rollable door curtain (100) is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI upon being in the folded state (116).
8. The rollable door curtain according to claim 7, wherein the third segment (128) extends in the longitudinal direction XI between two opposite transversal edges (118, 120), and wherein the second connection strip (132) span between the transversal edges (118, 120) of the second and the third segments (104, 128).
9. The rollable door curtain according to claim 7 or 8, when dependent on claim 5 or 6, wherein the third segment (128) is provided with a front side (124) and a back side (126), corresponding respectively to the front sides (124) and back sides (126) of the first and second segments (102, 104), and wherein the second connection strip (132) is attached to the either both front sides (124) or both back sides (126) of the second and third segments (104, 128).
10. The rollable door curtain according to claim 7 or 8, when dependent on claim 5 or 6, wherein the third segment (128) is provided with a front side (124) and a back side (126), corresponding respectively to the front sides (124) and back sides (126) of the first and second segments (102, 104), wherein the first connection strip (112) is attached to the front sides (124) of the first and second segments (102, 104) and the second connection strip (132) is attached to the back sides (126) of the second and third segments (104, 128) or vice versa.
11. The rollable door curtain according to any one of claims 7 to 10, wherein the rollable door curtain (100) is foldable such that in the folded state (116) the first and second segments (102, 104) are at least partly on top and in contact with each other and the second and third segments (104, 128) are at least partly on top and in contact with each other.
12. The rollable door curtain according to any one of claims 1 to 11, wherein two adjacent segments (102, 104) each comprises a weight portion (134), the weight portions (134)
being arranged at a bottom distal portion (136) of the rollable door curtain (100), wherein the weight portions (134) are separated from each other at a distance (138) equal to or larger than the separation between the lateral edges (106, 108) of the adjacent segments (102, 104).
13. A roll-up door assembly (200) for covering a door opening (202), the roll-up door assembly (200) comprising: the rollable door curtain (100) according to any one of claims 1 to 12, a drum (204) and an engine (206), wherein the rollable door curtain (100) is attached to the drum (204) at a top distal portion (208) of the rollable door curtain (100) and the engine (206) is arranged to roll and unroll the rollable door curtain (100) around the drum (204) such that the rollable door curtain (100) is movable along the longitudinal direction XI to cover and uncover the door opening (202).
14. A method for producing the rollable door curtain (100) according to any one of claims 1 to 12, wherein the method (300) comprises: providing (302) a first segment (102) and a second segment (104), wherein each of the first and second segments (102, 104) is extending in length in a longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges (106, 108), wherein the first and second segments (102, 104) are rollable along the longitudinal direction XI; arranging (304) the first and second segments (102, 104) adjacent to each other in a transversal direction X2, thereby forming a folding region (110) between a lateral edge (106) of the first segment (102) and a lateral edge (108) of the second segment (104); providing (306) a first connection strip (112); arranging (308) the first connection strip (112) to span the folding region (110); and connecting (310) the first connection strip (112) to the lateral edge (106) of the first segment (102) and the lateral edge (108) of the second segment (104).
15. The method for producing the rollable door curtain (100) according to claim 14, wherein the method (300) further comprises: providing (312) a third segment (128), the third segment (128) extending in length in the longitudinal direction XI and in width between two opposite and lateral edges
(106, 108), wherein the third segment (128) is rollable along the longitudinal direction XI; arranging (314) the second and third segments (104, 128) adjacent to each other in the transversal direction X2, thereby forming an additional folding region (130) between a lateral edge (106) of the second segment (104) and a lateral edge (108) of the third segment (128); and providing (316) a second connection strip (132); and arranging (318) the second connection strip (132) to span the additional folding region (130); and connecting (320) the lateral edge (106) of the second segment (104) and the lateral edge (108) of the third segment (128).
16. The method for producing the rollable door curtain (100) according to claim 14, wherein the method (300) further comprises: folding the rollable door curtain (100) along the folding region (110) such that the first and second segments (102, 104), are folded at least partly on top of each other; and rolling the folded rollable door curtain (100) around a rotation axis being perpendicular to the longitudinal direction XI.
17. The method for producing the rollable door curtain (100) according to claim 15, wherein the method (300) further comprises: folding the rollable door curtain (100) along the folding regions (110, 130) such that the first and second segments (102, 104), are folded at least partly on top of each other and such that the second and third segments (104, 128), are folded at least partly on top of each other; and rolling the folded rollable door curtain (100) around a rotation axis being perpendicular to the longitudinal direction XI.
