Definitions
- the invention relates to advance door opening of an elevator.
- the elevator is preferably an elevator for transporting passengers and/or goods.
- An elevator may comprise an elevator car and a hoisting machine operable to drive the car in an elevator shaft, to transfer passengers and/or cargo between landing floors.
- the elevator car may be provided with a door operator, i.e. an electrically controllable actuator, that drives an elevator car leave or car leaves to open and close the car door.
- the car door may be operably connected to an adjacent landing door by means of a door coupler, such that as the door operator drives the car door leaves, the landing door opens or closes also, to enable entering the car or exiting the car to the landing floor.
- elevators may be provided with an advance door opening function, the ADO function.
- This ADO function allows the car door/landing door to start opening by means of the door operator before the car is fully stopped on the landing. Doors start opening when the car is at a predetermined distance from the landing, also referred to as the ADO starting point.
- the objective of the invention is to solve one or more of the aforementioned problems by introducing a new elevator system.
- the invention provides solutions relating to problems associated with accuracy in door opening of an elevator.
- the invention provides solutions relating to preventing formation of a dangerous vertical step between car floor and landing floor, when the advance door opening function, the ADO function is enabled.
- the elevator system according to the invention is defined in claim 1 .
- the elevator system comprises an elevator shaft; one or more landings provided with landing floors; an elevator car comprising a car door and a car floor and adapted to transfer passengers and/or cargo in the elevator shaft; and a hoisting machine operable to drive the elevator car.
- the elevator system comprises a positioning system, which can measure position of the car in the shaft.
- the positioning system comprises at least one door zone sensor, providing absolute position of the car within a door zone or in the vicinity of each landing floor.
- the at least one door zone sensor preferably also indicates elevator car position in a situation when the car floor is exactly at the same level with the landing floor, such that there is no vertical step therebetween.
- the positioning system may also comprise an encoder, such as a hoisting machine motor encoder or a car encoder, that measures position of the car elsewhere in the shaft, between the landing floors.
- Other position measurement devices are applicable also, such as optically or magnetically readable tapes extending in the shaft along the trajectory of the elevator car.
- the elevator system comprises one or more controllers for controlling elevator operation.
- controllers may include an elevator control unit, a door operator control unit, and a frequency converter, for example.
- the frequency converter supplies electrical power to the hoisting machine based on control commands from the elevator control unit. Consequently, the hoisting machine drives the car smoothly between the landing floors and according to a predetermined speed profile, to implement the service requests received from elevator passengers.
- the elevator system comprises a door operator that opens or closes an elevator car door in combination with an adjacent landing door.
- the elevator system comprises an advance door opening, ADO function.
- ADO advance door opening
- the door operator starts early opening the car door/landing door combination, when the car approaching a destination landing has arrived at an ADO starting point at the proximity of the adjacent landing floor.
- the door operator starts to drive the car door leaves according to a predefined motion profile, such that the car door/landing door combination starts to open.
- door operators may be located in the landings, such that each landing door has a door operator of its own.
- the door operator comprises a belt drive, which comprises a drive motor, that drives a belt operably coupled to the door leaves.
- the elevator car comprises a door sensor, that indicates a closed/open status of the car door/adjacent landing door combination.
- the door sensor may be a limit switch or a contact changing its state, when opening of the car door/adjacent landing combination has advanced to a predefined point.
- a gap e.g. 500 mm enabling entering/exiting the car.
- door sensor may be e.g. an encoder, which measures movement of the door leaves or rotation of the door drive motor.
- a door operator control unit receives a door opening request from the elevator control unit, when the elevator car has arrived at the ADO starting point in elevator shaft. At that moment of time door operator starts opening the doors, as disclosed above.
- the door operator control unit sends an indication of this door status change to the elevator control unit.
- Elevator control unit records elevator car position at the moment of said status change. Elevator control unit compares the recorded position to a predetermined value range, that is representative of an allowable momentary step, i.e. position difference between the landing floor and the car floor.
- elevator control unit adjusts the ADO starting point such, that door opening starts a bit later for that particular landing (i.e. a bit closer to the particular landing floor).
- elevator control unit may request the door operator control unit to adjust motion profile of car door leaves, such that doors open a bit slower.
- the ADO starting point may be adjusted further away from the landing floor, such that door opening starts a bit earlier for that landing. This way door opening may be started a bit earlier and passengers may enter/exit the car earlier to reduce elevator waiting times for that floor.
- elevator control unit may request the door operator control unit to adjust motion profile of car door leaves, such that doors open a bit faster.
- the method for optimizing elevator advanced door opening in the elevator system comprises: obtaining information from the positioning system and from the door sensor by the controller; generating a door opening request for the door operator by the controller, when the elevator car has arrived at an ADO starting point; and adjusting the ADO starting point for the particular landing, if the elevator car position deviates from a predetermined value range at the time when the opening of the car door/adjacent landing door combination has advanced to the predefined point.
- the inventors have found that the door opening distance during advanced door opening can be optimized to prevent tripping hazard. Too high door sill gap may present the tripping hazard for the passengers. Increasing the door opening distance may have positive effect on overall system performance and especially door to door time.
- the elevator system and the method may remove or at least reduces the need for ADO adjustments since the arrangement comprises a built-in automatic optimal door opening position learning procedure for each landing.
- Figure 1 shows an elevator system provided with doors
- FIG. 2 shows a block diagram of some elements of the elevator system.
- FIG. 1 schematically illustrates some aspects of an elevator system 100 provided with doors 11 , 31 .

- the car 10 is provided with a car door 11 and a car floor 12.
- the car door 11 comprises a door that may be moved between a closed position and an open position.
- the car door 11 may be kept locked while the car 10 is moving, unlocked upon the car 10 entering a landing zone located at and close to a landing 30 provided with a landing floor 32 and opened upon the car 10 stopping at the landing 30.
