Description
AN INSEPARABLE CONNECTION OF TWO POLYMERIC ELEMENTS WHICH IS CAPABLE OF ROTATING WITH LIMITED TORQUE
The subject of the invention is an inseparable connection of two polymeric elements, which is capable of rotating with limited torque and transferring axial forces, while simultaneously allowing rotation. The invention will be described in more detail by way of a threaded insert made of a polymeric material in a ball joint, where the rotation is not completely free, the torque is limited within certain values. It does not require any additional components to provide the rotation function. The materials of which this fastening element is made may be from the polyamide family.
The technical problem solved by the invention is such a selection of materials for the execution of an inseparable connection of two polymeric elements that allows the structure of the functional parts of the elements and the very selection of the materials for the functional parts to be such as to permit the transmission of axial forces, while at the same time ensuring the rotation of individual elements with limited torque. All the functional parts of the rotary connection are configured in such a way that they can be mass-produced using polymer injection moulding technology.
The inseparable connection of two elements, which is capable of rotation with limited torque, is made possible in the current version by a metal threaded insert which is capable of transmitting forces and allows rotation with limited torque. Two processes are needed to make the whole assembly. First, production of the metal insert (including cleaning, coating/corrosion protection, packaging) and then, in a second process, insertion of the insert into a tool and injection moulding of same.
According to the invention, the threaded insert for the inseparable connection of two polymeric elements is made of a polymer. Such a threaded insert also allows force transmission and rotation with limited torque, but is manufactured in a single process as a two-component insert and is completely recyclable, requiring no coating.
The problem of limited rotation of the individual parts is solved by an appropriate selection of mating materials of which the elements - a threaded insert 1 and a ball socket 2, which are part of the inseparable connection, are made and are manufactured in one process.
The mating material of the threaded insert 1 has an injection melt temperature of 315°C to 360°C, a glass fibre content of 0% v/v, a carbon fibre content of 20% v/v to 50% v/v, a PFTE lubricant content of 0% v/v, while the mating material of the ball socket 2 has an injection melt temperature of 280°C to 305°C, a glass fibre content of 20% v/v to 50% v/v, a carbon fibre content of 0% v/v, a PFTE lubricant content of 5% v/v to 15% v/v.
An embodiment explaining the inseparable connection of two polymeric elements, which is capable of rotation with limited torque, of the invention and which will be used to explain the application of the invention, is a ball joint assembly made of polymeric materials.
The embodiment is shown in figures representing:
Figure 1 polymeric ball joint assembly;
Figure 2 functional elements of a ball joint assembly;
Figure 3: functional elements of a threaded insert;
Figure 4: functional elements of a retaining ring.
The ball joint consists of a threaded insert 1 which is co-moulded with a polymeric material forming the geometry of a socket 2. The tensile and compressive forces are transmitted from the threaded insert 1 via the ball socket 2 to a ball pin 3.
The ball pin 3 is made of metal material by a turning process. The threaded insert 1 is made by polymeric material injection moulding, where the injection melt temperature is 315°C to 360°C, a glass fibre content is 0% v/v, a carbon fibre content is 20% v/v to 50% v/v, a PFTE lubricant content is 0% v/v. The ball socket 2 is made by polymeric material injection moulding, where the injection melt temperature is 280°C to 305°C, the glass fibre content is 20% v/v to 50% v/v, the carbon fibre content is 0% v/v, the PFTE lubricant content is 5% v/v to 15% v/v.
The threaded insert 1 consists of the following functional parts: a flange 4 which is a restraining part used in the assembly; a thread 5 which is located inside a connecting roller 7 and transmits the forces from a piston rod to the threaded insert 1 , the connecting roller 7 connecting the thread 5 inside and a retaining ring 6.
The outer surface of the connecting roller 7 allows controlled rotation of the threaded insert 1 in the ball socket 2.
The retaining ring 6 consists of an inclined passage 9 adapted to accommodate mated polymeric materials. The inclined passage 9 is delimited by a lower rounding 8 and an upper taper 10. The passage 9 and the taper 10 depend on the material chosen for the threaded insert 1 , while the shape itself is determined by tests. The axial force transmission is solved by a customised design of the retaining ring 6, which is suitable for polymeric materials and can also be mass-produced.
