Abstract

The present invention relates to a gasket (1) comprising two flaps with shapes different from each other in order to be used in the automotive industry, particularly in vehicle lamps, and provide liquid tightness between two areas designated as dry and wet areas in the said vehicle lamps (L).

Description

A GASKET FOR PROVIDING LIQUID TIGHTNESS
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a gasket comprising two flaps with shapes different from each other in order to be used in the automotive industry, particularly in vehicle lamps, and provide liquid tightness between two areas designated as dry and wet areas in the said vehicle lamps.
Background of the Invention
Any product produced may contact with liquids during its operating time. Because either the working principle or the environmental conditions of products cause them to come into contact with liquids voluntarily or unintentionally, consumer dissatisfactions may occur in the said products due to electrical conductivity, corrosion on metal surfaces and wetness (dampness). Gaskets, which are used as a sealing member particularly in lamps located outside the vehicle, are preferred in the automotive industry in order to avoid the said dissatisfactions. Gaskets aim to prevent and make it difficult for liquids to pass from the wet area to the dry area between the two areas designated as a dry area and a wet area.
Use of sealing members, which are gaskets today, is quite common for lamps that are used in the automotive sector with the aim of lighting and contact with liquids because they are located outside in accordance with use. However, the current sealing elements lead to dissatisfactions in long-term uses, especially in the 3rd stop lamps. Therefore, today there is need for solutions wherein liquid tightness is enhanced and which overcome problems such as electrical conductivity and corrosion by preventing liquid tightness between the wet are and the dry area even in case of pressurized water contacts. The Japanese patent document no. JP2022049555A, an application included in the state of the art, discloses an extension part which is used between the back door glass and the 3rd (high-mount) stop lamp to prevent the light emitted from the 3rd stop lamp from leaking into the cabin, extends from the lamp base part towards the back door glass and a seal member which is used to seal the space between the said extension part and the vehicle glass.
Summary of the Invention
An objective of the present invention is to realize a gasket which provides liquid tightness by means of flaps with two different sizes and heights that it has in 3rd stop lamps being used in vehicles in the automotive industry.
Another objective of the present invention is to realize a gasket which provides sealing (impermeability) against pressurized liquid contact.
A further objective of the present invention is to realize a gasket which enables to enlarge the contact surface on the surface it contacts by means of the first one of two different flap configurations it has and to prevent the transition of pressurized liquid that may come from outside upon the force, applied to the surface it contacts by means of the second one, is increased.
Detailed Description of the Invention
“A Gasket for Providing Liquid Tightness” realized to fulfil the objectives of the present invention is shown in the figures attached, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the inventive gasket for providing liquid tightness.
Figure 2 is a side view of the inventive gasket for providing liquid tightness wherein it is applied to the lamp on the vehicle. Figure 3 is a side view of the first contact of the flaps of the inventive gasket for providing liquid tightness, to the vehicle surface.
Figure 4 is a side view of the flaps of the inventive gasket for providing liquid tightness wherein it is applied to the vehicle surface together with the lamp.
The components illustrated in the figures are individually numbered, where the numbers refer to the following:
1. Seal
2. Body
3. First flap
4. Second flap
L: Vehicle lamp
T: Vehicle contact surface
The inventive gasket (1) which increases the contact surface in vehicle lamps (L) and provides sealing by creating a barrier in order to prevent liquid transition particularly in the automotive industry comprises:
- at least one body (2) which has a detachable structure intended for the vehicle lamp (L);
- at least one first flap (3) which extends outwards by being located on the surface of the body (2) that is not attached to the vehicle lamp (L) and enables to increase the surface it contacts in the vehicle by bending outwards after tilting to the right or left, upon it starts to apply pressure to the vehicle contact surface (T); and
- at least one second flap (4) which extends outwards by being located on the surface of the body (2) that is not attached to the vehicle lamp (L) and increases the existing width by being squeezed in its own axis upon it starts to apply pressure to the vehicle contact surface (T), and acts as a barrier. In the inventive gasket (1), the body (2) fits into a housing located in the vehicle lamp (L) from one surface thereof and contacts the vehicle contact surface (T) by means of the first flap (3) and the second flap (4) located on the other end thereof. In one preferred embodiment of the invention, the body (2) whereon flaps are located is manufactured by means of molding method.
In the inventive gasket (1), the first flap (3) is a single piece with the body (2) and extends from the body (2) surface towards the vehicle contact surface where it will be mounted. The first flap (3) has a triangular form in a sectioned way. Thereby, it bends outwards upon it is pressed to the vehicle contact surface (T) and it causes the surface it contacts on the vehicle, to increase. In one preferred embodiment, the first flap (3) enables to reduce the flow rate of the liquid to be received from outside. The first flap (3) is designed to be angular so as to facilitate bending.
In the inventive gasket (1), the second flap (4) is a single piece with the body (2) and can be located in a position closer to the internal components of the vehicle lamp (L) compared to the first flap (3). Thereby, the second flap (4) creates a second obstacle for the liquids escaping from the first flap (3). The second flap (4) has a triangular form in case of sectioning however it is shorter in height compared to the first flap
(3) and wider in terms of base width. Thereby, the second flap (4) approaches towards the body (2) by being squeezed in its own axis and becoming swollen upon it is pressed to the vehicle contact surface (T) and it acts as a barrier. Thereby, the first flap (3) prevents the liquid with reduced flow rate from entering the internal components that form the dry area of the vehicle lamp by means of the second flap
(4). The second flap (4) is designed so as to press on the vehicle perpendicularly to facilitate it approach towards the body (2) by being squeezed and becoming swollen and to act as a barrier.
The inventive sealing gasket (1) is used in lighting products in vehicles. More specifically, it is used in 3rd stop lamps of vehicles. The said sealing gasket (1) provides the liquid sealing between the wet area located outside the 3rd stop lamps and the dry area which creates the internal components of the stop lamps. Thus, flaps (3, 4) which are triangular but have two different lengths and base widths are used on the body (2). Due to the fact that the height of the first flap (3) located on the body (2) is more than the other second flap (4) and its base is narrow, it creates the first obstacle for the liquids by increasing the contact surface after bending outwards upon it contacts the vehicle. Whereas the second flap (4) located on the body (2) gets squeezed and becomes swollen by contacting the vehicle surface and its width increases upon its height gets shorter. Thereby, the second flap (4) creates an obstacle and a barrier for the liquids that may pass from the first flap (3). Thus, liquid transition is prevented between the wet area and the dry area particularly in 3rd stop lamps.
The inventive sealing gasket (1) is used as a sealing member mainly in the automotive industry by overcoming problems experienced such as electrical conductivity, corrosion formation on metal surfaces and consumer dissatisfaction due to wetness and in particular to liquid contact, in vehicle lamps.
It is possible to develop various embodiments of the inventive gasket (1) for providing liquid tightness; the invention cannot be limited to examples disclosed herein and it is essentially according to claims.
