Description
- The present disclosure relates to a container, an adapter that is configured to attach a device to the container, a system comprising the container and the adapter and a method to assemble said system.
- Containers and other equivalent vessels are used in almost all industrial sectors.
- In the course of ever increasing automation of technical procedures and processes, there is a growing desire to equip such containers with devices. The devices can be, for example, locating devices, electrical identification elements, level sensors, environmental sensors or sensors for monitoring a load of the container.
- Such devices are bonded, welded or cast to the container, especially in the case of containers made of plastic. This has the disadvantage that it is not possible, or only possible with considerable effort, to replace the device or an energy storage device of the device.
- Another option is to reversibly attach the device to an inside or an outside of the container, for example in a screw-on housing. This has the disadvantage that protrusions either protrude outward from the container, making it likely that the device will be damaged during transport of the container, or protrusions protrude inward, resulting in edges and beads where dirt or load debris can settle, which can contaminate the load and reduce an available load volume of the container.
- To solve this problem,
discloses, among other things, an adapter with which a position sensor can be inserted into a cavity of a double-walled container, which is formed between an outer wall and an inner wall of the double-wall.EP 4 206 085 A1 - The adapters disclosed in
are expensive to manufacture and still offer nooks and crannies where dirt can settle.EP 4 206 085 A1 - The object of the present invention is to eliminate or reduce the disadvantages of the prior art or to provide an alternative solution.
- Specifically, it is the object of the present invention to mount a device in or on a container in a simple and inexpensive manner so that it is accessible for service work but is nevertheless arranged in a protected manner and has as few edges and crevices as possible in which contamination can build up.
- This object is solved by a system according to independent claim 1 as well as by an adapter and/ or a container and/ or a method for assembling the container according to one of the subsidiary claims. Advantageous further aspects of the invention are described below and/ or in the dependent claims.
- Specifically, the object of the present invention is solved by a system comprising a container and an adapter. The container has a bottom wall and a peripheral wall extending away from the bottom wall, substantially normally. One of the walls comprises, at least in sections, an outer plate/ wall and an inner plate/ wall. The outer plate and the inner plate form or delimit an intermediate space or cavity, wherein a receiving opening is formed in the outer plate or the inner plate through which the intermediate space is accessible. The adapter is provided and configured to insert a device into the intermediate space and to hold it therein. The adapter has an essentially planar closing portion and an essentially planar holding portion. The closing portion is provided and configured to close the receiving opening and the holding portion is provided and configured to hold the device. The closing portion and the holding portion are formed in a stepped shape or an angled stepped shape with respect to each other.
- In other words, the object of the present invention is solved by the system comprising the container and the adapter. The container may be a rigid container, a foldable/ collapsible container, a stackable container and/ or a nestable container. The container has a bottom wall, which includes or is the standing surface of the container. The peripheral wall extends from the bottom wall in an erected condition of the container, i.e. a condition, in which the container is provided and configured to receive cargo, preferably at a right angle or slightly more than 90 degrees.
- The peripheral wall can optionally be formed with at least one flap or door. Further optionally, the container may have a hinged or attachable lid wall.
- At least one of the walls, that is the bottom wall, the peripheral wall and/or the optional lid wall, is double-walled at least in sections. By double-walled it is understood that the wall in question has the inner plate and the outer plate, which are connected to each other by support structures and form or delimit the space between the inner plate and the outer plate.
- In one of the inner plate and the outer plate a receiving opening is formed. The receiving opening is an opening, which makes the intermediate space of the double wall accessible from the surroundings.
- Preferably, the intermediate space is tightly sealed from the surroundings except for the receiving opening. However, embodiments are also conceivable in which the intermediate space is additionally connected to the environment by water drainage openings or ventilation openings or sensor openings or the like.
- The adapter is provided and configured to insert the device into the intermediate space and to hold or fix it there. The adapter can be a connecting element. In other words, the device may be fixed to the container only by means of the adapter.
- The device may be, for example, a locating device for locating the container, an electrical identification element to identify the container or the cargo in the container, a level sensor to detect a level inside the container, an environmental sensor to detect characteristic values such as a temperature of a surrounding or a sensos for monitoring a load of the container.
- The adapter comprises the closing portion. The closing portion is essentially a sheet shaped portion. The closing portion is configured to close the receiving opening. In other words, the sheet shape of the closing portion corresponds essentially to an opening cross section of the receiving opening.
- Further, the adapter comprises the holding portion, which is essentially a sheet shaped portion. The holding portion has a contact surface or contact section or at least one contact point, which holds, fixes, or contacts the device.
- The closing portion and the holding portion form a step shape or an angled step shape. This means that the closing portion and the holding portion are arranged in planes that are preferably parallel and spaced apart from one another and offset from one another at least in sections.
- In other words, in a top view, that is in a viewing direction normal to a planar extension of the holding portion and the closing portion, the holding portion and the closing portion are arranged offset at least in sections, and in a side view, which is a viewing direction normal to the top view, the holding portion and the closing portion are also arranged offset.
- By configuring the system in this way, the adapter can have a simple geometry that can be manufactured cost-effectively and with a minimum of material. The plate-shaped or sheet shape of the closing portion creates few edges and corners in which dirt or debris can collect.
- In one aspect, the adapter may comprise a step portion which connects the closing portion and the holding portion such that the step between the closing portion and the holding portion corresponds to at least a wall thickness of the outer plate and/ or the inner plate.
- In other words, the step portion may be formed between the closing portion and the holding portion. The step portion extends, at least partially, in a direction normal to the planar extension of the holding portion and/or the planar extension of the closing portion. The extension in the direction normal to the holding portion and/or the closing portion corresponds at least to the wall thickness of the plate of the wall section of the container in which the insertion opening is formed.
- Such a design of the adapter provides the largest possible installation space for the device in the intermediate space in the assembled state.
- In another aspect, the step portion may be resiliently elastic and may allow elastic deflection between the closing portion and the holding portion.
- In other words, the step portion may be a flexure spring so that relative elastic movement between the holding portion and the closing portion is enabled about an axis extending in an extension direction of the step portion.
- Such an elastic design of the step portion enables easy assembly of the adapter in the intermediate space, especially in the case of a large-volume device.
- In another aspect, the holding portion may be adjacent to or covered, at least in sections, by the outer plate and the inner plate in an inserted/ mounted state of the adapter in the container.
- In other words, the adapter may be fixed in the mounted state such that, in a top view in a perpendicular direction to the wall in which the adapter mounted, the holding portion is at least partially, preferably essentially completely, covered by both the inner plate and the outer plate.
- By such an arrangement in the mounted state, the device, which is fixed to the holding portion, is protected by the inner plate and the outer plate, which are supported against each other by ribs or the like, and in case of impact and/or penetration against the side wall, a risk of damage to the device is reduced.
- In another aspect, the closing portion may close the receiving opening flush and without protrusion.
- In other words, the plate having the receiving opening and the closing portion may form a substantially flat closed surface in the mounted state.
- With such a configuration, space-saving folding can be achieved in a configuration as a collapsible container and/or a tight pack when transporting or storing a large number of containers. Furthermore, the accumulation of dirt on edges or a risk of damage to the device is considerably reduced.
- In another aspect, the outer plate and/ or the inner plate may have guide or holding ribs on a section facing the intermediate space, which may be provided and designed to guide and hold the holding portion and/ or the device.
- In other words, ribs may extend in the intermediate space, the ribs acting as guide elements or stops for the adapter and/or the device fixed to the adapter. The ribs can extend completely between the inner plate and the outer plate. Alternatively or additionally, the ribs may extend into the intermediate space as a protrusion. Preferably, the ribs may be arranged symmetrically with respect to a central axis of the receiving opening, which lies in a plane of the opening.
- In another aspect, the holding portion may comprise at least a fixing geometry, which may be provided and configured to receive and fix the device, preferably in a form-fit manner and without tools.
- In other words, the holding portion may have at least one fixing geometry. The fixing geometry may be a latching hook, a latching pin, an eyelet, an edge or the like.
- The fixing geometry may preferably be configured in such a way that the device latches onto the holding portion.
- The fixing geometry may preferably be designed in such a way that the mounting of the device on the holding portion is possible without tools.
- Such a configuration allows easy and quick mounting of the device to the holding portion of the adapter.
- In another aspect, the holding portion may comprise at least two fixing geometries, wherein the two locking geometries differ from each other in at least an orientation.
- In other words, a spring action direction of the two fixing geometries may be oriented offset by 90°, for example.
- This type of design prevents the fixing geometry from coming loose unintentionally due to impacts or vibrations.
- Alternatively or additionally, the fixing geometry may be formed according to the poka yoke principle, which enables the device to be fixed in exactly one position on the holding portion.
- In another aspect, the closing portion may comprise a latching geometry, wherein the latching geometry may be provided and configured to lock into receiving geometries formed on the receiving opening.
- The latching geometry may comprise at least one locking edge.
- The latching geometry alternatively or additionally may comprise at least one locking hook and/ or a latching pin and/ or an eyelet or the like.

Fig. 1 shows a system 2 according to the present invention, comprising acontainer 4 and anadapter 6. The container has a rectangularbottom wall 8 and aperipheral wall 10. Theperipheral wall 10 comprises two opposinglong sidewalls 12 and two opposingshort sidewalls 14, which extend away from thebottom wall 8 at substantially right angles. Thelong sidewalls 12 and theshort sidewalls 14 are hinged to thebottom wall 8 so that the container 2 can be brought into an erected position (shown inFig. 1 ) and a folded position (not shown). Adoor 16 is formed in one of theshort sidewalls 14 and in one of thelong sidewalls 12, with which the 12, 14 can additionally be partially opened. In the embodiment shown inrespective sidewall Fig. 1 , theadapter 6 is formed in theshort sidewall 12, in which nodoor 16 is formed. - Obviously, the
adapter 6 may alternatively or additionally be formed in any of the 8, 12, 14 and/or in an optional lid (not shown).other walls - In the following, the
adapter 6 is described in more detail with reference toFig.2a, Fig. 2b and Fig. 2c . - The
adapter 6 comprises a closingportion 18 and a holdingportion 20 which are connected by astep portion 22. Theadapter 6 is integrally formed and has a substantially stepped shape, with the holdingportion 20 and the closingportion 18 being offset parallel to each other and connected by thestep portion 22. - It is also conceivable to have the closing
portion 18 and the holdingportion 20 overlapping and/ or oriented at an angle to each other. - The closing
portion 18 is provided and formed to close a receiving opening (see, e.g. 44 inFig. 4 ) flush and to fix theadapter 6 in the 12, 14. The closingside wall portion 18 has a hexagonal, substantially plate-shaped, elongated planar geometry with rounded edges. Other geometries are also conceivable, for example a square, in particular a rectangular geometry. - At a
first edge 24, thestep portion 22 is coupled or connected. Thestep portion 22 has at least one extension normal to the planar extension of the closingportion 18 and/or the planar extension of the holdingportion 20. In other words, thestep potion 22 spaces the closingportion 18 and the holdingportion 20 in a direction normal to the planar extent of the closingportion 18 and the holdingportion 20. - The
step portion 22 may be elastically resiliently fixed or formed or coupled on the closingportion 18. Thestep portion 22 is connected or coupled to the holdingportion 20 at a side away from the closingportion 18. - Two locking hooks 28 are formed at a distance from each other on an
edge 26 of the closingportion 18 that is facing away from the holdingportion 20. The function of the locking hooks will be described in more detail later with reference toFigs. 4 to 6c . - The holding
portion 20 is provided and configured to hold a device (see, e.g. 34 inFig. 3a ) and to fix it to theadapter 6. The holdingportion 20 has an isosceles trapezoidal, substantially plate-shaped, elongated planar geometry with rounded edges. Other geometries are also conceivable, for example a square, in particular a rectangular geometry. - The holding portion 20 (including the device attached thereto) is smaller in size than the closing
portion 18 or the receiving opening formed in the respective wall so that the holding portion (including the device attached thereto) can be inserted through the receiving opening, whilst the closingportion 18 closes the receiving opening upon insertion of the holding portion 20 (including the device attached thereto). - On a section of the holding
portion 20 facing the closingportion 18,semicircular protrusions 30 are formed at the outer corners of the trapezoidal shape of the holdingportion 20 in the direction of the closingportion 18. Theprotrusions 30 are explained in more detail below with reference toFig. 3a, Fig. 3b and Fig. 3c . - A fixing
geometry 32 in the form of an elastic latching pin is formed on each of theprojections 30. The fixinggeometry 32 is provided and configured to form-fit thedevice 34. Specifically, the fixing geometries are provided and configured to engage throughholes 36 formed on thedevice 34. - The fixing
geometries 32 are rotated by 90 ° with respect to a center axis of therespective fixing geometry 32. This ensures that an opening/loosening force must be applied in two different directions for the two fixinggeometries 32 in order to release thedevice 34. Unintentional loosening due to vibrations or shocks is thus prevented. In the fixed state, thedevice 34 lies flat against the holdingportion 20. - In the following,
Fig. 4 to Fig. 6c describe an insertion process of theadapter 6 into thesidewall 14. To improve visualization, thedevice 34 is not shown inFig. 6a, Fig. 6b and Fig. 6c . - The
side wall 14 is a double side wall. It is also possible to imagine embodiments in which the side wall is only partially double-walled. In the embodiment described here, double-walled means that the side wall is formed with anouter plate 38 and aninner plate 40. Stiffeningribs 42 are formed between theouter plate 38 and theinner plate 40. A receivingopening 44 is formed in theouter plate 38 to receive theadapter 6. - An opening geometry of the receiving
opening 44 corresponds to the planar geometry of the closingportion 18. - An
intermediate space 46 is formed between theouter plate 38 and theinner plate 40 to receive thedevice 34 and at least the holdingportion 20 of theadapter 6. - In a first step, the
adapter 6, more specifically the holdingportion 20 of theadapter 6 with thedevice 34 attached thereto, is moved through the receivingopening 44 into theintermediate space 46 by moving the adapter in a direction normal to theouter plate 38. In this step, the holdingportion 20 and the closingportion 18 are oriented substantially parallel to theouter plate 38 and theinner plate 40. - When the holding
portion 20 and thedevice 34 are fully inserted into theintermediate space 46, in a second step, the holdingportion 20 is moved with the device parallel to theouter plate 38 and theinner plate 40 so that the holdingportion 20 is positioned between theouter plate 38 and theinner plate 40 and the closingportion 18 are substantially aligned with the receivingopening 44. - At least on the inside of the
outer plate 38,guide ribs 48 are formed to guide the holdingportion 20 and thedevice 34 during the insertion process and to act as a stop when inserted.Such guide ribs 48 can alternatively or additionally also be formed on the inside of theinner plate 40. - In a third step, shown in
Fig. 6a and Fig. 6b , thefirst edge 24 is brought into engagement with the receivingopening 44 and hooked. This is done by tilting theadapter 6 relative to theouter plate 38. - In a fourth step, the locking hooks 28 are brought into engagement with a locking
geometry 50 of the receivingopening 44 and theadapter 6 is firmly locked to theside wall 14. -
Fig. 7a to Fig. 8b show theadapter 6 with thedevice 34 fully engaged in theside wall 14. In the inserted state, the closingportion 18 forms a smooth surface with an outer surface of theouter plate 38 without projections. - A
stop 52 is additionally formed on the closingportion 18, which rests against thedevice 6 and additionally holds and supports thedevice 6. - With reference to
Fig. 9a, Fig. 9b and Fig. 9c , a removal/disassembly process of the adapter from theside wall 14 is briefly explained. - In a first step, a
screwdriver 54 is inserted into the lockinggeometry 50 of the receivingopening 44. - In a second step, the
screwdriver 54 is rotated 90° around its axis to overcome a spring force of the lockinghook 28 of theadapter 6. This causes theadapter 6 to pop out of the receivingopening 44. - In a third step, the
adapter 6 is pulled out of the receivingopening 44 in the reverse order to the insertion process, that is, first parallel to theouter plate 38, then normal to theouter plate 38. -
Fig. 10a and Fig. 10b show a release process of theadapter 6 from thedevice 34. - In a first step, a
screwdriver 54 is inserted between the holdingportion 20 and thedevice 34. - In a second step, the
screwdriver 54 is rotated 90° around its axis to overcome a spring force of the fixing geometries of theadapter 6. This causes theadapter 6 to pop of thedevice 34. -
