Package
TEXT OF THE DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a package made of sheet material, for example paper, card, corrugated cardboard, etc.
The package described herein is designed to contain a generic article, the type of article in no way limiting the scope of the solution described herein.
Today, there is particularly felt the need to reduce the amount of material used in the packaging of products in order to limit the environmental impact of the packages produced.
Even though a wide range of solutions have already been proposed that tackle the aforesaid technical problem, this remains substantially unsolved for the so-called quality packages, which are widely used in various commercial spheres for example, for cosmetics, wines, spirits, jewelry, toys, watches, etc., to mention just a few.
Usually, quality packages used in the art comprise an outer container and an inner lining that houses the product or the article. The outer container is completely closed and is the only visible part of the package. Usually printed thereon are the illustration of the product, the brand of the product, and various informative notes. The outer container frequently has a glossy outer layer to guarantee a better quality of the printing made thereon. Also the inner lining itself reproduces a sort of container and performs the function of withholding the product and stiffening the package as a whole.
Packages of this type evidently make use of a large amount of packaging material. However, they are still much appreciated and continue to have a wide diffusion in so far as they enable valorization of the article contained therein.
In this context, the object of the present invention is to provide a package that will be improved as compared to the solutions of the prior art, in particular, will solve the problem referred to above of reducing the amount of material used for production of the package and at the same time will in any case be able to valorize and enhance the article contained therein.
The aforesaid object is achieved via a package according to claim 1. The present invention moreover relates to a method according to claim 10.
The claims form an integral part of the teaching provided herein.
In the present description, as likewise in the annexed claims, some terms and expressions are meant to assume, except where otherwise indicated, the meaning expressed in the ensuing definition or definitions.
By the term "parallel" is meant a substantial parallelism between two elements, comprising both the ideal case where these elements are arranged with respect to one another so as to form a zero angle and more frequent cases in which the two elements are arranged with respect to one another so as to form an angle that is other than zero but is in any case negligible or not important for the purposes of operation of the present solution.
According to a first aspect, the present invention regards a package comprising:
- preferably an article; and
- preferably an inner lining of sheet material, which preferably surrounds said article.
Preferably, said inner lining is folded along folding lines about a reference axis and preferably has a first end and a second end, which are open and opposite to one another along said reference axis.
Preferably made in the sheet material of said inner lining is at least one opening delimited by a perimetral edge, which preferably receives a portion of said article and withholds said article in a pre-set position by means of said perimetral edge.
Preferably, the package comprises an outer sleeve of sheet material, within which, preferably, said inner lining that surrounds said article is received.
Preferably, said outer sleeve is folded along folding lines about said first reference axis or a second reference axis transverse to said first reference axis, and preferably has a first end and a second end, which are open and opposite to one another along said reference axis or said second reference axis.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, the package described herein is obtained with a considerably limited use of sheet material and, at the same time, is able to valorize and enhance the article contained therein.
According to a second aspect, the present invention regards a method for making a package, comprising:
- preferably providing an article; and
- preferably providing an inner lining of sheet material and folding said inner lining, along folding lines, about a reference axis so as to surround said article and obtain a first end and a second end of said inner lining, which are preferably open and opposite to one another along said reference axis.
Preferably, in said package a portion of said article is received in at least one opening made in the sheet material of said inner lining, which is preferably delimited by a perimetral edge via which said article is withheld in a pre-set position.
Preferably, the method described herein comprises arranging said inner lining that surrounds said article within an outer sleeve of sheet material, which preferably is folded along folding lines, about said first reference axis or a second reference axis transverse to said first reference axis, and preferably has a first end and a second end, which are open and opposite to one another along said reference axis or said second reference axis.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, it is possible to implement a method that makes it possible to produce a package that will be able to valorize and enhance the article contained therein, with a considerably limited use of sheet material.
According to a third aspect, the present invention regards a strip of sheet material preferably having an outer perimetral edge and predefined folding lines for providing an inner lining for a package according to the aforesaid first aspect.
According to a fourth aspect, the present invention regards a strip of sheet material preferably having an outer perimetral edge and predefined folding lines for providing an outer sleeve for a package according to the aforesaid first aspect.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, it is possible to produce the package described herein in a simple and repeatable way.
According to one or more of the aforesaid aspects, the present invention may comprise one or more of the characteristics described hereinafter.
In one or more embodiments, at least said first and second open ends of said sleeve and said first and second open ends of said inner lining, or else
at least said first and second open ends of said sleeve and said opening made in said sheet material of said inner lining, constitute areas for displaying said article towards the outside of said package.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, the package described herein is able to valorize and enhance the article contained therein, exploiting the openings deriving from a limited use of sheet material.
In one or more embodiments, preferably made in the sheet material of said inner lining are at least one first opening and one second opening, each delimited by a respective perimetral edge, which preferably receive opposite portions of said article and together withhold said article in said preset position, preferably by means of the respective perimetral edges.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, the inner lining is able to withhold the article in a firm way, and the article itself can be exploited for stiffening the overall structure of the package.
In one or more embodiments, said inner lining that surrounds said article is received within said outer sleeve, preferably according to a shape fit such as to allow sliding of the inner lining with respect to the outer sleeve.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, the package can be opened in a simple way and, moreover, the inner lining, together with the article contained therein, is able to bestow stability on the outer sleeve.
In one or more embodiments, said outer sleeve or said inner lining preferably comprises at least one blocking element that engages said inner lining or said outer sleeve to prevent sliding of the inner lining with respect to the outer sleeve.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, it is possible to prevent Accidental and undesired opening of the package.
In one or more embodiments, said outer sleeve is folded along folding lines preferably parallel to said second reference axis, and said opening made in the sheet material of said inner lining is preferably positioned at said first open end or said second open end of said outer sleeve.
In one or more embodiments, preferably made in the sheet material of said inner lining and moreover in the sheet material of said outer sleeve are respective openings for displaying said article, which preferably lie one on top of the other.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, the package described herein
is able to valorize and enhance the article contained therein, and at the same time the use of sheet material for providing the package is considerably limited.
In one or more embodiments, said inner lining is folded along folding lines preferably parallel to said reference axis, and said outer sleeve is folded along folding lines preferably parallel to said first reference axis or said second reference axis.
In one or more embodiments, the package comprises at least one band, which is preferably applied on said first open end or second open end of said outer sleeve and connects opposite edges of said first open end or second open end, preferably said band being in a state of tensile stress.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, it is possible to stiffen further the structure of the package and, at the same time, guarantee integrity of the package and of the article contained therein.
In one or more embodiments, at least two opposite portions of said article are received within a first opening and a second opening of said inner lining, which are preferably made in the sheet material of said inner lining and preferably are each delimited by a respective perimetral edge so that said first and second openings together withhold said article in said pre-set position by means of the respective perimetral edges.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, the inner lining is able to withhold the article in a firm way, and the article itself can be exploited for stiffening the overall structure of the package.
In one or more embodiments, arranging said inner lining that surrounds said article inside said outer sleeve preferably includes arranging said inner lining inside said outer sleeve according to a shape fit such as to allow sliding of the inner lining with respect to the outer sleeve.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, the package can be opened in a simple way, and moreover the inner lining, together with the article contained therein, is able to bestow stability on the outer sleeve.
In one or more embodiments, the method includes engaging said outer sleeve or said inner lining, preferably via at least one blocking element made in said inner lining or said outer sleeve to prevent sliding of said inner lining with respect to said outer sleeve.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, it is possible to prevent
accidental and undesired opening of the package.
In one or more embodiments, arranging said inner lining that surrounds said article inside said outer sleeve includes inserting said inner lining preferably into said outer sleeve through said first open end or second open end of said outer sleeve.
In one or more embodiments, arranging said inner lining that surrounds said article inside said outer sleeve includes folding the sheet material of said outer sleeve, preferably along said folding lines and around said inner lining.
In one or more embodiments, said inner lining is folded along folding lines preferably parallel to said reference axis, and said outer sleeve is folded along folding lines preferably parallel to said first reference axis or said second reference axis.
In one or more embodiments, the method described herein further comprises applying at least one band preferably on said first open end or said second open end of said outer sleeve to connect opposite edges of said first open end or said second open end, preferably in a state of tensile stress of said band.
Thanks to the aforesaid characteristics, it is possible to stiffen further the structure of the package and, at the same time, guarantee integrity of the package and of the article contained therein.
In one or more embodiments, the strip has at least one opening preferably delimited by an inner perimetral edge.
In one or more embodiments, the strip is folded along said folding lines and has opposite ends fixed together, preferably via glue, so as to form said outer sleeve.
Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge clearly from the ensuing description with reference to the annexed drawings, which are provided purely by way of non-limiting example and in which:

In the ensuing description various specific details are illustrated aimed at enabling an in-depth understanding of the embodiments. The embodiments may be obtained without one or more of the specific details, or with other methods, components, or materials, etc. In other cases, known structures, materials, or operations are not illustrated or described in detail so that various aspects of the embodiment will not be obscured.
The references used herein are provided merely for convenience and hence do not define the sphere of protection or the scope of the embodiments.
With reference to Figures 1 and 2A-2C, the package described herein - designated as a whole by the reference number 10 - comprises an inner lining 20, made of sheet material, which surrounds the article P, and an outer sleeve 40, which is itself also made of sheet material, received within which is the inner lining 20, along with the article P. The article P has a generic cylindrical shape and could, for example, be a jar or can.
With reference to Figure 2A, the inner lining 20 is constituted by a strip 21 of sheet material, for example paper, card, or corrugated cardboard, which has an outer perimetral edge 22 of predefined profile and a plurality of pre-set folding lines 23.
In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the outer perimetral edge 22 follows a general profile of rectangular shape. In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the folding lines 23 are parallel to one another and to the two short sides of the rectangular perimetral edge 22.
In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, made in the strip 21, i.e., in the sheet material that constitutes the inner lining 20, are a series of openings 24, delimited by respective inner perimetral edges 24A.
The openings 24 are each configured to receive a corresponding portion of the article P and withhold, all together, by means of the respective perimetral edges 24A, the article P in a pre-set position, when the inner lining 20 surrounds the article P.
In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the inner lining 20 is folded, along the folding lines 23, about a reference axis I and has a first end 26 and a second end 27, which are open and opposite to one another and are both located along the reference axis I.
The outer sleeve 40 is constituted by a strip of sheet material 41, which has an outer perimetral edge 42 of predefined profile and pre-set folding lines 43 (Figure 2A). In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the perimetral edge 42 follows a generically rectangular profile, and the folding lines 43 are parallel to one another and to the short sides of the rectangular perimetral edge 42. To form the sleeve 40, the strip 41 is folded along the folding lines 43 and the opposite end flaps 45 A, 45B are fixed together, for example via glue.
As illustrated in Figure 2A, during the method of packaging of the article P the outer sleeve 40 may be provided already in its closed configuration. In a way in itself known, the outer sleeve 40 can be stored and transported in a flattened configuration (see Figure 2 A) to reduce its overall dimensions.
In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the outer sleeve 40 receives the inner lining 20 according to an orientation such that the outer sleeve 40 is folded along its folding lines 43 about the same reference axis I of the inner lining 20. Likewise, its ends 46, 47, which are open and opposite to one another, are both located along the reference axis I.
In the package described herein, the open ends 26, 27 of the inner lining 20 and the open ends 46, 47 of the outer sleeve 40 constitute areas for displaying the article P towards the outside of the package. Preferably, these display areas are such as to render visible prevalent portions of the article P (with reference to the corresponding sides exposed through these areas).
It is pointed out how, in the solution described herein, use of a reduced amount of sheet material is exploited to create, precisely, ample areas for displaying the article P. These areas for displaying the article render superfluous printing of the illustration of the article P on the package itself,
in particular on the sleeve 40, so that the outer surfaces of the sleeve can be exploited to bear the commercial brand of the article P and any informative notes.
It will on the other hand be noted that, even in its basic embodiment, the inner lining 20 is able to withhold the article P firmly thanks to the openings 24 made therein and to stiffen the overall structure of the package 10. In this connection, the portions 21G, 21H, 211, 2 IL in which the openings 24 are made extend in secant planes with respect to the article P so that the external stresses on the package will be transmitted by these portions to the article P, through the perimetral edges 24A of the respective openings 24; in this way, by exploiting the strength of the article itself P, the package 10 is stiffened.
In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the inner lining 20 is received within the outer sleeve 40 according to a shape fit such as to afford the inner lining 20 the possibility of sliding with respect to the outer sleeve 40, in particular between a retracted position, where the inner lining 20 and the article P housed therein are set completely within the sleeve 40, and a completely extracted position, where the inner lining 20 is removed from the sleeve 40 and it is thus possible to gain access to the article P.
In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the inner lining 20 has, in particular, the intermediate portions 21 A, 2 IB, 21C that are to come into contact with the respective corresponding walls 41 A, 4 IB, 41C of the outer sleeve 40, and the two opposite end flaps 2 ID, 2 ID’ that both set themselves against the wall 4 ID of the sleeve 40.
In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the folded configuration of the inner lining 20 around the article P is fixed precisely as a result of the fit between the inner lining and the outer sleeve 40.
In one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, the outer sleeve 40 has, at its open ends 46, 47, a plurality of folded tabs 48 that engage corresponding notches 28, for example in the form of shaped recesses, made in the inner lining 20, to block the inner lining 20 to the outer sleeve 40 and thus prevent relative sliding between the two components.
Figures 2A to 2D show the sequence of steps of the method for providing the package 10 starting from the strip 21 completely laid out and
from the sleeve 40 already closed and in a completely flattened condition. It may be noted how the strip 21 is folded around the article P according to a sequence that can be easily implemented in a packaging machine of a rotary type.
With reference to Figures 3 and 4A-4E, these illustrate a second embodiment of the package described herein. The elements of this embodiment in common with those of the embodiment described previously are designated by the same reference numbers as the ones used in Figures 1 and 2A-2D.
The article P contained in the package 10 of this further embodiment has a rounded shape, of small depth, and could, for example, be a flask.
Incidentally, it is pointed out that the strip 21 of this embodiment has a specific construction different from that of the strip 21 of the previous embodiment of Figures 1 and 2A-2D, precisely to adapt to the different shape of the article P. In any case, also the strip 21 of this embodiment envisages portions 21G, 21H, 2 IL, 211, made in which are the openings 24, which are designed to receive corresponding portions of the article P and are to set themselves in secant planes with respect to the article. As mentioned above, these portions are configured to transmit the external stresses exerted on the package to the article P, through the perimetral edges 24A of the respective openings 24 so as to stiffen the package 10 by exploiting the strength of the article itself P.
In general, the person skilled in the sector may obviously vary the specific configurations of the inner lining 20 and of the outer sleeve 40 according to the requirements of the specific applications.
With reference to Figure 3A, according to this further embodiment, the strip 21 has in the portions 2 IE, 2 IF that are to be located on opposite sides of the article P respective openings 29; at the same time, in the two opposed walls 4 IE, 4 IF of the sleeve 40, which are to overlie the portions 2 IE, 2 IF of the inner lining 20, further openings 49 are made, which come to be perfectly aligned with the openings 29 of the inner lining 20, in the assembled package 10.
The openings 29, 49 constitute further areas for displaying the article P, in addition to the open ends 26, 27, 46, 47 described previously.
Moreover, in one or more preferred embodiments like the one illustrated, on at least one of the two ends 46, 47 of the outer sleeve 40 (on the end 45 A in the example of Figures 3 and 4A-4C) a band 52 is applied that connects opposite edges of the open ends of the sleeve, preferably in a condition where the band is in a state of tensile stress.
The band 52 performs, on the one hand, the function of stiffening the structure of the package 10 and, on the other hand, the function of seal in order to guarantee integrity of the package and of the article contained therein.
Also in this embodiment, the inner lining 20 is received within the outer sleeve 40 according to a shape fit such as to allow the inner lining 20 to slide with respect to the outer sleeve 40 (once the band/bands 52 has/have been removed). In this case, this fit is determined by mutual contact between the portions 2 IE, 2 IF of the inner lining 20 and the portions 4 IE, 4 IF of the sleeve 40 and by engagement of the outer comer edges of the inner lining 20 (defined by some of its folding lines 23) with the corresponding inner comer edges of the sleeve 40 (defined by its folding lines 43).
Figures 4A-4E show the sequence of steps of the method for providing the package 10 according to this further embodiment, starting from the strip 21 completely laid out and from the sleeve 40 that is already closed and in a completely flattened condition. Also in this case, it may be noted how the strip 21 is folded around the article P according to a sequence that can be easily implemented in a packaging machine of a rotary type.
Figures 5 and 6A-6b illustrate a further embodiment of the package described herein. Also in this case, the elements of this embodiment in common with the those of the embodiments described previously are designated by the same reference numbers as the ones used in Figures 1, 2A- 2D, 3 and 4A-4E.
The package 10 according to this embodiment differs from the previous ones in that the outer sleeve 40 is folded about a second reference axis I’, which is transverse to the reference axis I of the inner lining 20.
This means that the open ends 26, 27 of the inner lining 20 are closed by the walls 41G, 41H of the outer sleeve 40.
Instead, according to this embodiment, the openings 24 of the inner lining 20, which withhold the article P, are located at the open ends 46, 47 of
the sleeve 40 and constitute together with them the areas for displaying the article P towards the outside of the package.
As illustrated in Figures 6A-6B, to produce the package 10 the sleeve 40 may be provided in the form of a strip 41 still completely laid out and then be arranged in its closed configuration directly around the inner lining 20 containing the article P within it. The sequence of folding of the strip 41 can be easily implemented in a packaging machine of a rotary type. The strip 21 of the inner lining 20 corresponds substantially to that of the previous embodiment of Figures 3 and 4A-4E.
As in the previous embodiment, further areas for displaying the article P are constituted by the openings 29 and 49 described above.
It should be noted that in this embodiment the tabs 48, made in the sleeve 40 and designed to block the inner lining 20 to the outer sleeve 40, are inserted into incisions 28 in the form of eyelets provided along some of the folding lines 23 of the strip 21.
Of course, without prejudice to the principle of the invention, the details of construction and the embodiments may vary, even significantly, with respect to what has been illustrated herein purely by way of non-limiting example, without thereby departing from the scope of the invention, as defined in the annexed claims.
