-
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional side view of anenergy storage assembly 10. Theenergy storage assembly 10 comprises ahousing 12 adapted to accommodate a firstenergy storage module 14. In theFIG. 1 example, theenergy storage assembly 10 comprises the firstenergy storage module 14 and the housing accommodates the firstenergy storage module 14. In fact, theFIG. 1 energy storage assembly 10 is adapted to accommodate a secondenergy storage module 16 as will be discussed further hereinbelow. Purely by way of example, theenergy storage assembly 10 may be adapted to be located in or on avehicle 17. As a non-limiting example, thevehicle 17 may be a truck. As another example, theenergy storage assembly 10 may be adapted to be located in or on a marine vessel (not shown), such as a boat or a ship. As a non-limiting example, thehousing 12 may be made of metal, such as aluminium. - The first
energy storage module 14 comprises at least onebattery cell 18. However, it is also envisaged that the firstenergy storage module 14 may comprise a plurality of battery cells (not shown). Thehousing 12 is adapted to accommodate the firstenergy storage module 14 and in theFIG. 1 example, thehousing 12 accommodates the firstenergy storage module 14. The energy storage assembly comprises a firsthousing side wall 20. A firsthousing support bracket 22 extends from the firsthousing side wall 20 and a secondhousing support bracket 24 extends from the firsthousing side wall 20. Optionally, and as indicated in theFIG. 1 example, each one of the firsthousing support bracket 22 and the secondhousing support bracket 24 extends from the firsthousing side wall 20 in a direction towards the interior of thehousing 12. Moreover, as indicated inFIG. 1 , at least a portion of the firstenergy storage module 14 is arranged to be located between the firsthousing support bracket 22 and the secondhousing support bracket 24. In theFIG. 1 example, at least a portion of the firstenergy storage module 14 is located between the firsthousing support bracket 22 and the secondhousing support bracket 24. As may be realized fromFIG. 1 , when the firstenergy storage module 14 is at least partially inserted between the firsthousing support bracket 22 and the secondhousing support bracket 24, there may be a play Δ between the firstenergy storage module 14 and at least one of the first and second 22, 24. Such a play Δ may for instance result in undesired movements of the firsthousing support brackets energy storage module 14 which in turn may require that the firstenergy storage module 14 needs to be reinforced in order to be able to accommodate loads that may be occasioned by such movements. -
FIG. 2 illustrates a cross-sectional side view of anenergy storage assembly 10 which assembly has features in common with theFIG. 1 energy storage assembly 10. However, as may be gleaned fromFIG. 2 , theenergy storage assembly 10 disclosed therein further comprises a firsttolerance adjustment member 26 adapted to be located between the secondhousing support bracket 24 and at least a portion of the firstenergy storage module 14. In theFIG. 2 example, firsttolerance adjustment member 26 is located between the secondhousing support bracket 24 and at least a portion of the firstenergy storage module 14. Moreover, as indicated inFIG. 2 , the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 has at least two configurations with different extensions in a direction from the secondhousing support bracket 24 to at least a portion of the firstenergy storage module 14 and/or to the firsthousing support bracket 22. - To this end, a first configuration of the first
tolerance adjustment member 26 is indicated by a hatched area inFIG. 2 and a second configuration of the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 is indicated by the combination of the hatched area and a dotted area. As may be gleaned fromFIG. 2 , when the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 is in the second configuration illustrated inFIG. 2 , the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 bridges a possible play between the secondhousing support bracket 24 and at least a portion of the firstenergy storage module 14. As such, when the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 is in the second configuration, the firstenergy storage module 14 may be appropriately supported by the first and second supporting 22, 24 which may result in that vibrations, accelerations or other undesired movements of the firstbrackets energy storage module 14 may be kept appropriately low. - Moreover, as indicated in
FIG. 2 , the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 may be adapted to abut each one of the secondhousing support bracket 24 and at least a portion of the firstenergy storage module 14 and this applies to any example of the present disclosure. However, it is also contemplated that other examples of theenergy storage assembly 10 may comprise an intermediate member (not shown) located between the secondhousing support bracket 24 and the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 and/or between the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 and at least a portion of the firstenergy storage module 14. - As a non-limiting example, in the
FIG. 2 example, each one of the firsthousing support bracket 22 and the secondhousing support bracket 24 may be fixedly attached to the firsthousing side wall 20, for instance by means of at least one of a weld joint (not shown), a bolt joint (not shown) or the like. As a non-limiting example, the firstenergy storage module 14 may be supported by the firsthousing support bracket 22 when the firstenergy storage module 14 is inserted into thehousing 12. - Moreover, although the present disclosure puts emphasis on the first
housing side wall 20 for the sake of brevity, it should be noted that examples of theenergy storage assembly 10 may also comprise a second housing side wall 20' which for instance may be located on the opposite side of the firstenergy storage module 14 as compared to the firsthousing side wall 20. To this end, reference is made toFIG. 2 , exemplifying that such a second housing side wall 20' may have the same features as the firsthousing side wall 20, for instance as regards the first housing support bracket 22', the second housing support bracket 24' and the first tolerance adjustment member 26'. - Purely by way of example, as indicated in
FIG. 2 , the firstenergy storage module 14 may extend in a first direction along a first axis X, a second direction along a second axis Y and a third direction along a third axis Z. The secondhousing support bracket 24 is located at a bracket distance from the firsthousing support bracket 22, as seen along the third axis Z. Moreover, the extension of theenergy storage module 14 along each one of the first axis X and the second axis Y is larger than the extension of the energy storage module along the third axis Z. - Purely by way of example, as indicated in
FIG. 3 , the firstenergy storage module 14 has a first energy storage module length L along the first axis X. Moreover, as indicated by the dashed lines inFIG. 3 , each one of the firsthousing support bracket 22 and the secondhousing support bracket 24 extends along the first axis X over at least 50%, optionally over at least 70%, of the first energy storage module length L. Moreover, though again purely by way of example, the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 may extend along the first axis X over at least 50%, optionally over at least 70%, of the first energy storage module length L. In theFIG. 3 example, each one of the firsthousing support bracket 22, the secondhousing support bracket 24 and the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 extends substantially over the whole of the first energy storage module length L. -
FIG. 4A illustrates an example of the firsttolerance adjustment member 26. As may be realized from theFIG. 4A the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 may be attached to the firsthousing side wall 20 by means of threaded members, such as bolts and/or rivets. Although theFIG. 4A example illustrates a single threaded member orrivet 28, it is envisaged that the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 may be attached to the firsthousing side wall 20 by means of a plurality of threaded members or rivets 28 which for instance may be distributed along the longitudinal axis X. - Moreover, again with reference to
FIG. 4A , the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 may comprise a first toleranceadjustment member flange 30 and a second toleranceadjustment member flange 32. The first toleranceadjustment member flange 30 and a second toleranceadjustment member flange 32 may be located at a distance from each other along the third axis Z. Furthermore, and as exemplified inFIG. 4A , the first toleranceadjustment member flange 30 and the second toleranceadjustment member flange 32 may be connected to each other via a toleranceadjustment member web 34. Purely by way of example, the first toleranceadjustment member flange 30, the second toleranceadjustment member flange 32 and the toleranceadjustment member web 34 may form a unitary component. Purely by way of example, such a unitary component may be made of a plastics material. Moreover, the unitary component formed by the first toleranceadjustment member flange 30, the second toleranceadjustment member flange 32 and the toleranceadjustment member web 34 may be referred to as a beam or a bracket. - Furthermore, as indicated in
FIG. 4A , the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 may comprise aflexible element 36. Purely by way of example, theflexible element 36 may be made of rubber. As a non-limiting example, theflexible element 36 may be located at least partially between the first toleranceadjustment member flange 30 and the second toleranceadjustment member flange 32. Moreover, the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 may further comprise aload applicator 38 extending at least partially along the first axis X. Moreover, in theFIG. 4A example, theload applicator 38 extends at least partially through theflexible element 36. Theload applicator 38 is adapted to apply compression to theflexible element 36 whereby the extension of theflexible element 36 along the third axis Z can be altered. To this end, reference is made toFIG. 4B which illustrates theFIG. 4A flexible element 36 andload applicator 38 in a view onto a plane extending parallel to the first and third axes X, Z. InFIG. 4B , a first pair ofarrows 40 indicates a compression applied to theflexible element 36 by theload applicator 38 along the first axis X and the second pair ofarrows 42 indicates an increased extension of theflexible element 36 along the third axis Z which is the result of the applied compression. - As a non-limiting example, and as indicated in
FIG. 4B , theload applicator 38 may comprise afirst abutment member 44 and asecond abutment member 46 being located on opposite sides of theflexible element 36 as seen along the first axis X. Thefirst abutment member 44 and thesecond abutment member 46 are connected to each other via aload applicator connector 48 such that a distance along the first axis X between thefirst abutment member 44 and thesecond abutment member 46 is variable by rotating at least one of thefirst abutment member 44, thesecond abutment member 46 and theload applicator connector 48 relative to at least another one of thefirst abutment member 44, thesecond abutment member 46 and theload applicator connector 48. - However, it is also envisaged that in other examples, the
load applicator 38 may be adapted to be located on only one side of theflexible element 36 as seen along the first axis X. To this end, a first portion of theload applicator 38 may be connected to a portion of thehousing 12 and a second portion of theload applicator 38 may be adapted to abut a portion of theflexible element 36 and theload applicator 38 may be adapted to be operated, for instance by means of a threaded member or by a ratchet arrangement (not shown), so as to impart a compressing load onto theflexible element 36 via the second portion of theload applicator 38. - As a non-limiting example, the
first abutment member 44 and theload applicator connector 48 may form a unitary component. Purely by way of example, thefirst abutment member 44 and theload applicator connector 48 may form a bolt wherein thefirst abutment member 44 forms a bolthead of the bolt. Thesecond abutment member 46 may comprise a nut. In such an example, tools such as wrenches (not shown) or the like may be used for rotating the bolt relative to the nut in order to alter the distance between thefirst abutment member 44 and thesecond abutment member 46 to thereby alter the extension of theflexible element 36 along the third axis Z. - For any example of the
flexible element 36 and theload applicator 38, there may be an initial gap along the third axis Z between the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 and at least one of theenergy storage module 14 and the secondhousing support bracket 24. Purely by way of example, such as initial gap may be present when theenergy storage module 14 is inserted between the firsthousing support bracket 22 and the firsttolerance adjustment member 26. The initial gap may be reduced, possibly removed, by applying a compression to theflexible element 36 using theload applicator 38. - As has been intimated above, the first
tolerance adjustment member 26 may comprise a covering 30, 32, 34 at least partially covering themember flexible element 36. Purely by way of example, at least one of, preferably each one of, the first toleranceadjustment member flange 30, the second toleranceadjustment member flange 32 and the toleranceadjustment member web 34 may form part of such a covering member. To this end, the covering member may be such that the distance along at least the third axis Z between the first toleranceadjustment member flange 30 and the second toleranceadjustment member flange 32 may be altered when the extension of theflexible element 36 along the third axis Z is altered. - However, as indicated in
FIG. 5 , it is also envisaged that examples of the firsttolerance adjustment member 26 need not comprise a covering member. As such, it is envisaged that in examples of the firsttolerance adjustment member 26, theflexible element 36 may be in contact with at least one of the firstenergy storage module 14 and the secondhousing support bracket 24. - Reverting to
FIG. 2 , it should be noted that in examples of theenergy storage assembly 10, the housing may be adapted to accommodate a secondenergy storage module 16. The secondenergy storage module 16 comprises at least onebattery cell 50. In theFIG. 2 example, theenergy storage assembly 10 comprises the secondenergy storage module 16 and thehousing 12 accommodates the secondenergy storage module 16. Moreover, in theFIG. 2 example, theenergy storage assembly 10 comprises a thirdhousing support bracket 52 extending from the firsthousing side wall 20. At least a portion of the secondenergy storage module 16 is arranged to be located between the secondhousing support bracket 24 and the thirdhousing support bracket 52. In theFIG. 2 example, at least a portion of the secondenergy storage module 16 is located between the secondhousing support bracket 24 and the thirdhousing support bracket 52. Theenergy storage assembly 10 may further comprise a secondtolerance adjustment member 54 adapted to be located between the thirdhousing support bracket 52 and at least a portion of the secondenergy storage module 16. In theFIG. 2 example, the secondtolerance adjustment member 54 is located between the thirdhousing support bracket 52 and at least a portion of the secondenergy storage module 16. The secondtolerance adjustment member 54 has at least two configurations with different extensions in a direction from the thirdhousing support bracket 52 to the at least a portion of the secondenergy storage module 16 and/or to the secondhousing support bracket 24. - Purely by way of example, features of the second
tolerance adjustment member 54 may be the same as the features of the firsttolerance adjustment member 26. - The present disclosure may be presented by any one of the below examples.
