Description
Technical Field
[0001 ] The invention relates to an insulator for a wooden post of an electric fence. The invention also relates to an assembly of an insulator and a wooden post.
Background Art
[0002] A lot of insulators for a wooden post of an electric fence are known in the art.
[0003] In a first embodiment, an insulator is attached to the wooden post in a cantilever way. When exercising even a modest force on the insulator, the insulator may be removed unwillingly from the post.
[0004] In a second embodiment, electrically conducting wires of an electric fence pass through a plastic hose which is placed inside a hole through the post. This is a more stable construction. However, since this fixing system is based upon friction, as time goes by, flaws start to grow in the hose and the hose becomes loose from the post.
[0005] Figure 1 illustrates a third embodiment. The insulator 10 is made of a non conducting material. The insulator and holds a metal wire 12 that may conduct electricity. The insulator 10 has a basis 14 with two holes 15 and 16 for attachment to a post (not shown). The insulator 10 further has a claw 17 pointing upwards and a claw 18 pointing downwards. The metal wire 12 is clamped by both claws 17 and 18. This type of insulator 10 is often referred to as “W’ type of insulator. When forced by cattle, the metal wire 12 can become loose from the claws 17 and 18, or, cattle may break the fixation claws 17 and 18. Disclosure of Invention
[0006] It is a general object of the invention to avoid or at least to mitigate the drawbacks of the prior art.
[0007] It is a specific object of the invention to provide for an insulator that can be fixed to a wooden post in a stable and secure way.
[0008] It is another object of the invention to increase the lifetime of an insulator for wooden post.
[0009] According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided an insulator for electric fence that is adapted to be inserted in a post, e.g. a wooden post. The insulator comprises following contiguous parts: a head, a flange and a main part. These contiguous parts are preferably made of one piece of non-conducting material, e.g. a UV resistant plastic. All the contiguous parts comprise a central bore that extends throughout the insulator to allow passing a metal wire. The flange protrudes laterally from the main part and allows fixation to the post.
[0010] Preferably, the flange comprises a hole to allow fixation to the post.
[0011] The insulator is adapted to go through a hole in the post and, additionally, the insulator has a flange, that comes in contact with the post and that allows fixing the insulator to the post. This construction is highly resistant to external forces and gives a stable and secure fixation.
[0012] According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided an assembly of an insulator and a wooden post. The assembly comprises an insulator according to the first aspect of the invention and a wooden post. The wooden post has a hole through it. The main part of the insulator goes through the hole from one end of the post to another end of the post. The flange protrudes laterally from the main part of the insulator and contacts the post, e.g. in longitudinal direction of the post. The flange is fixed to the pole, e.g. by means of a nail or a screw that is inserted in a hole in the flange. Brief Description of Figures in the Drawings

The main part 26 may have longitudinal ribs with longitudinal spaces between two neighbouring ribs. This may help to fix the main part in a hole of a wooden post.
A bore 27 is extending through the entire insulator 20.
The flange 24 has a hole, to allow fixation of the insulator 20 to a post.
[0017] FIGURE 3 shows an assembly of a wooden post 30 and an insulator 20 according to the second aspect of the invention. The main part 26 of the insulator 20 goes through a hole in the post 30 and protrudes somewhat at the other end of the post 30. The head 22 and the flange 24 protrude at the one end of the post 30.
An electrically conductive wire 12 goes through the insulator 20 without making electrical contact with the wooden post 30.
A nail 32 goes through the hole 28 of the flange 24 and further fixes the insulator 20 to the post 30.

Claims
1. An insulator for electrical fence and adapted to be inserted in a wooden post, said insulator comprising following contiguous parts: a head, a flange, and a main part, all said contiguous parts comprising a central bore that extends throughout said insulator,
CHARACTERIZED BY said flange protruding laterally from said main part and allowing fixation to said wooden post.
2. The insulator of claim 1 ,
CHARACTERIZED IN THAT said flange comprises a hole to allow fixation to said wooden post.
3. An assembly of an insulator and a wooden post,
CHARACTERIZED IN THAT said assembly comprises an insulator according to any one of the preceding claims and a wooden post, said wooden post comprising a hole, said main part going through said hole from one end to another end, said flange being fixed to said pole at said one end, said main part protruding from said hole at said other end.
4. The assembly according to claim 3, wherein a nail or screw fixes said insulator to said post.
