Definitions
- the present invention relates to indoor units in air conditioners used in central air conditioning systems which provide heating and/or cooling of air in buildings with large interior spaces, such as workplaces, shopping malls, etc.
- Air conditioning systems are widely used for providing personal comfort, especially for conditioning an indoor place by heating and/or cooling. These air-conditioning systems can be classified as home type or central type according to the dimensions of the environment to be conditioned, and may include dedicated air conditioners. These air conditioners also comprise at least one indoor unit for drawing the air in which the air conditioner is located, so that the air is conditioned and returned to said environment, and at least one outdoor unit in which elements such as compressor and condenser are provided.
- wall type, floor type and/or cassette type indoor units can be used.
- Said indoor units are placed in a part of the environment to be conditioned according to their types, and draw the ambient air so that the air is conditioned and returned to the environment.
- the air drawn from the environment during such a conditioning process can contain microorganisms, which may cause contamination and adversely affect the health of living things.
- the indoor unit according to the present invention all of the air drawn into the indoor unit can be sterilized effectively and homogeneously. Thus, while preventing dispersal of microorganisms in an ambient air to other environments, it is also possible to clean the ambient air.
- An object of the present invention is to provide a cassette type indoor unit for air conditioners used in central air conditioning systems.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a cassette type indoor unit which sterilizes the air drawn from an environment.
- Figure 1 is a top schematic view of an embodiment of the indoor unit with the cover open.
- Figure 2 is a top schematic view of another embodiment of the indoor unit with the cover open.
- Figure 3 is a top schematic view of the indoor unit with the cover closed.
- Central air conditioning systems are used to condition (heat and/or cool) the air in multiple environments at the same time.
- These central air conditioning systems comprise at least one air conditioner with at least one indoor unit and at least one outdoor unit, wherein said indoor units may be of different types.
- at least one indoor unit is placed in each environment to be conditioned and the ambient air is sucked through this indoor unit.
- the sucked air is subjected to the conditioning process based on the determined conditions (e.g. temperature, humidity, etc.), and the conditioned air is returned to the environment via the indoor unit.
- microorganisms in the air sucked from an environment are also sucked by the indoor unit together with the air and enter the central air conditioning system.
- the present invention provides a cassette type indoor unit for the air conditioners used in central air conditioning systems, which solves said problems.
- the cassette type indoor unit as illustrated in Figures 1 - 3, comprises at least one body (G); at least one suction area (S) located in the body (G), preferably in the middle of the body (G), wherein the ambient air is drawn into the suction area (S) for conditioning process; and at least one (preferably more than one) outlet section (L), preferably located on at least one edge of the body (G), for returning the conditioned air to the environment in which the indoor unit is provided.
- the indoor unit according to the invention also comprises at least three sterilisation modules (1) located next to the suction area (S), preferably adjacent to the suction area (S), and each comprising at least one lighting element that emits light in ultraviolet wavelength (preferably, UVC), the three sterilisation modules (1) being provided in the body (G) to surround the suction area (S) and allow the air coming into the suction area (S) to be sterilized homogeneously with the ultraviolet light emitted by the lighting element; and at least one control unit (2) provided in the body (G) for controlling and adjusting operation of the sterilisation modules (1) (e.g. activating or de-activating the sterilisation modules (1)).
- at least three sterilisation modules (1) located next to the suction area (S), preferably adjacent to the suction area (S), and each comprising at least one lighting element that emits light in ultraviolet wavelength (preferably, UVC), the three sterilisation modules (1) being provided in the body (G) to surround the suction area (S) and allow the air coming into the
- the indoor unit according to the invention is positioned on a wall, preferably on the ceiling, of an environment to be air-conditioned, and enables that the ambient air is drawn into the suction area (S) and conditioned.
- Activating the sterilization modules (1) allows the air drawn into the suction area (S) to be exposed to light in ultraviolet wavelength from at least three sides. Since the sterilization modules (1) are positioned to provide light for the air in the suction area (S), the air coming into the suction area (S) can be effectively sterilized.
- the sterilized air is then conditioned in accordance with the predetermined conditioning conditions and returned to the environment through the outlet section (L).
- the indoor unit according to the invention, all of the air drawn from an environment in central air conditioning systems is sterilized homogeneously before being conditioned and returned to the environment(s). Therefore, microorganisms in an environment can be prevented from passing to other environments, and at the same time, the sterilized air is returned to the environment from which the air has been drawn such that air of the same environment can be cleaned. Therefore, the health of living things can be effectively protected.
- the suction area (S) has a circular form and the sterilization modules (1) are located at an equal distance (a) in between.
- the indoor unit comprises three sterilization modules (1), as exemplified in figure 1 , for example, the sterilization modules (1) are positioned around the suction area (S) with a spring part distance (a) sweeping an angle of 120° between successive sterilization modules (1) (especially the middle parts of the sterilization modules (1)).
- the indoor unit comprises four sterilisation modules (1)
- the sterilization modules (1) are positioned around the suction area (S) with a spring part distance (a) sweeping an angle of 90° between successive sterilization modules (1) (especially the middle parts of the sterilization modules (1)).
- the positioning and number of the three or four sterilization modules (1) allows the circular suction area (S) to be exposed to ultraviolet rays homogeneously. Thus, it is ensured that all the air sucked in the disinfection process is homogeneously exposed to ultraviolet rays at similar doses.
- the indoor unit according to the invention comprises at least one cover (K) which covers the body (G) and the elements provided in the body (G), the cover (K) having at least one suction gap (K1), preferably in the form of a grid, located to correspond to the suction area (S) and an outlet opening (K2) located to correspond to at least one outlet section (L).
- the light in ultraviolet wavelength emitted from the sterilization modules (1) can be prevented from harming living things in the environment where the indoor unit is provided.
- the indoor unit also preferably comprises a switch (3), preferably mechanical, which is in connection with the cover (K), wherein if the cover (K) is opened, the switch (3) is brought into an open position so as to cut off energy transfer from the control unit (2) to the sterilization modules (1), and if the cover (K) is closed, the switch (3) is brought into a closed position so as to allow energy transfer to the sterilization modules (1).
- a switch (3) preferably mechanical, which is in connection with the cover (K), wherein if the cover (K) is opened, the switch (3) is brought into an open position so as to cut off energy transfer from the control unit (2) to the sterilization modules (1), and if the cover (K) is closed, the switch (3) is brought into a closed position so as to allow energy transfer to the sterilization modules (1).
- control unit (2) prevents activation of the sterilization modules (1) for a predetermined time (for example, within the range of 5-15 minutes, especially preferably 10 minutes) when the switch (3) is brought from the open position into the closed position.
- a predetermined time for example, within the range of 5-15 minutes, especially preferably 10 minutes
- the indoor unit according to the invention also preferably comprises at least one remote controller having at least one transmitter; and at least one receiver (4) (preferably an infrared receiver) located in the body (G), which receives the control commands transmitted via the transmitter of the remote control and transmits them to the control unit (2).
- the operational conditions of the sterilization modules (1) of the indoor unit can be controlled in accordance with the needs.
- the indoor unit also preferably comprises at least one warning element which is located in the body (G) (especially on the cover (K)), wherein the warning element emits light when the sterilization modules (1) are activated and does not emit light when the sterilization modules (1) are de-activated, so that the user is informed about activity (operation) status of the sterilization modules (1).
- the indoor unit according to the present invention all of the air drawn into the indoor unit can be sterilized effectively and homogeneously. Thus, while preventing dispersal of microorganisms in an ambient air to other environments, it is also possible to clean the ambient air.
