Description

  • The present invention relates to a cooler device, preferably freezer device or chiller device, comprising a cabinet, at least one door, at least one display and at least one product storing region being located inside the cabinet.
  • Further, the present invention relates to a door for use with a cooler device.
  • Cooler devices are used for example in supermarkets and convenience stores for presenting cooled or frozen goods. Traditional devices have large header structures above the doors for mounting a display. These displays are used for promoting specific products or actions at the point of sale. Further, displays help to support the consumer with regard to the in-shop orientation and navigation and to provide product information at the point of sale. Furthermore, these displays enable the merchant to inspire the consumer and to trigger purchasing decisions.
  • Existing solutions which address the topic of promotion are often based on screens which are integrated into the transparent area of the door. Such screens are opaque, transparent or translucent. A corresponding cooler device is shown in the US patent application US 2013/0063326 A1 .
  • These cooler devices have the disadvantages that they are expensive and require high initial investments due to the use of expensive screens and the complicated production process. Due to the integration of a screen into the door body such solutions are not flexible and can e.g. not be exchanged to use later technical solutions. Even if they are semi-transparent the screens according to the state of the art block at least partly the view of the customer to the presented goods inside the cooler device. In case digital displays are used the necessary electronic components are at least partly exposed to low temperatures and temperature changes which increase the risk of condensation and humidity on the components and therefore potentially decrease the lifetime of the device. In case the merchant would like to change positions the effort for changing displays is very high because complete doors have to be changed.
  • Alternatively - especially for the purpose of navigation and orientation support - stickers are placed on the doors or billboards are placed on top of the doors in the cabinet header. Due to aesthetical reasons, this approach is not preferred by retailers anymore.
  • Embodiments of the present invention therefore address the problem of improving and further developing a cooler device and a door for a cooler device such that a display can be provided without reducing the product visibility.
  • In an embodiment the present invention provides a cooler device, preferably freezer device or chiller device, comprising a cabinet, at least one door, at least one display and at least one product storing region being located inside the cabinet, wherein said door comprises a transparent product presentation area and a display area, wherein under an frontal view said product storing region is viewable through said transparent product presentation area, wherein said transparent product presentation area and said display area do not overlap with each other, such that under an frontal view the product storing region is unobstructed by the display area, and wherein said display area is at least partly transparent, such that said display is viewable through said display area or wherein said door comprises said display, such that said display defines said display area.
  • In a further embodiment, the present invention provides a door for use with a cooler device according to any one of the claims 1 to 13, comprising a transparent product presentation area and a display area, wherein under an frontal view a product storing region is viewable through said transparent product presentation area, wherein said transparent product presentation area and said display area do not overlap with each other, such that under an frontal view the product storing region is unobstructed by the display area, and wherein said display area is at least partly transparent, such that a display is viewable through said transparent display area or wherein said door comprises said display, such that said display defines said display area.
  • The term "display" refers in particular in the claims, preferably in the description to a device for displaying information. The information can be indicia, such as number or letter, a color or the material of the display itself for the use of promotion, trigger purchasing decision, support the consumer with regard to in-shop orientation etc. The term "freezer device" refers in particular in the claims, preferably in the description to a device in which the temperature of the foodstuffs is typically kept between -12°C and -30 °C on normal conditions of use. Normal conditions are defined as operating conditions, which exist when the cabinet, including all permanently located accessories, has been set up and situated in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer and is in service. Typical examples for such foodstuffs are the products which are stored according to EN23953, part 2 (September 2012) in the temperature classes L1, L2 and L3.
  • The term "chiller device" refers in particular in the claims, preferably in the description to a device in which the temperature of the foodstuffs is typically kept between -5°C and +10°C on normal conditions of use, preferably between 0°C and +7°C. Typical examples for such foodstuffs are the products which are stored according to EN23953, part 2 (September 2012) in the temperature classes M1 and M2.
  • The term "transparent" refers in particular in the claims, preferably in the description to a region, area or the like which is optically provided such that the view on the goods, products or the like inside the freezer or chiller device is not obstructed or blocked.
  • The term "frontal view" refers in particular in the claims, preferably in the description to a person view when a person is standing in front of the closed door and looking into the device under approximately 90° with respect to the surface of the closed door.
  • One of the advantages is that the view onto the product presentation area is not blocked since the transparent product presentation area and the display area do not overlap with each other. Hence, a display for promotion, in-shop orientation etc. can be realized in the display area without disturbing a consumer's view on the products stored in the device. A further advantage is that an appealing look of the device is created since the display area is a part of the door.
  • In a preferred embodiment, the display area is arranged above the product presentation area. Hence, the information is viewable even from long distances. According to a further embodiment said door extends essentially to a top edge and/or to a lower edge of said cabinet. Preferably the door is 10 cm higher or lower than the top edge and/or the lower edge of said cabinet. More preferably the door is 5 cm higher or lower than the top edge and/or the lower edge of said cabinet. It is noted that the term "essentially" refers to a construction according to which the door is designed with respect to the cabinet in such a way that for an average sized customer it appears as if the door is flush with the top edge of the cabinet. This has the advantage that an appealing design of the device is achieved.
  • In a preferred embodiment, a front of said product presentation area and a front of said display area are defined by a single glass sheet. Providing a single glass sheet has the advantage that the surface of the door can be cleaned easily. A further advantage is the appealing design of such a surface.
  • According to a further embodiment, said product presentation area and/or said display area is/are defined by a gas-filled insulating glass unit or by a vacuum insulated glass unit. This provides the advantage that the inside of the device is insulated against the warm ambient air. Typically, the gas filled insulating glass unit and/or the vacuum insulated glass unit comprise at least two glass panes, often three glass panes, being spaced apart from each other by one or more spacers. The glass panes may comprise a thickness of 3 mm to 5 mm, often 4 mm and/or may comprise an antifog-coating or an antifog foil and/or a heatable coating and/or a low-emissivity coating and/or an anti-reflective coating. In vacuum insulation glass units (VIG) the spacer elements may have a depth of 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm, preferably of below 1 mm. These spacer elements of the VIG are used in combination with a circumferential edge sealing. In gas filled insulation glass units (IG) the circumferential spacer may have a depth of 4 to 20 mm. The space between the glass panes can be filled with a gas in case of an insulating glass unit (IG) or may be evacuated in case of a vacuum insulated glass unit (VIG). For not obstructing the view through the glass units the spacers can be made of a transparent material.
  • According to another embodiment, the display area is defined by an extended front glass of said gas-filled insulating glass unit or by an extended front glass of said vacuum insulated glass unit. This has the advantage that a transparent display area can be achieved easily. Furthermore, a single glass sheet defines the surface of the transparent product presentation area and the display area, which makes this surface easy to clean.
  • In another embodiment, said presentation area and said display area are defined by separate glass sheets. Hence, the product presentation area and the display area are optically distinct from each other such that a customer can easily distinguish these two areas. According to a further embodiment, at least one connection element can be provided between said separate glass sheet. The connection element can have at least essentially a T-shaped or a U-shaped or an H-shaped or a Z-shaped cross section. Furthermore, the connection element can be made of a soft material to avoid damages due to direct glass-to-glass contact. Moreover, the connection element can be translucent, transparent or colored. The term "essentially" with regard to the term relating to a shape, form or the like of an element refers not only to the strict form, shape or the like but also to a shape, form or the like which deviates from the strict form, for instance by rounded corners, different formed connections between corners or the like.
  • In another embodiment, said display is mounted to said door. According to this embodiment, the display moves together with the door when the door is closed or opened. Therefore, the display will always be connected to said door which allows the customer to have the information provided by said display even though the door is in its open position. In a preferred embodiment, the display area is transparent, for example defined by a glass sheet, and the display is mounted to the door, behind das transparent display area. Thereby, a full glass door can be realized which has an appealing design and is easy to clean.
  • According to a further embodiment, said display is mounted to said cabinet. Hence, the information of the display will always be close by the products being stored in the device, regardless of whether the door is in the closed position or in the opened position. Furthermore, the wiring of the display is easy to establish when the display is mounted to the cabinet.
  • According to a further embodiment, said display is detachable mounted to said door and/or to said cabinet. Thereby the display itself can be replaced such that the information being presented to the customer can be changed easily. The display can be mounted to the door and/or to the cabinet with a form-fit and/or a force-fit connection. For example, the display can be mounted to the door and/or the cabinet with mounting means such as a clip.
  • In a preferred embodiment, said display is defined by a screen, preferably an LED-Screen or an LCD-Screen or an OLED-Screen. This has the advantage that the information shown on the screen, i.e. on the display, can be changed easily. According to a further embodiment, said display is defined by a projection surface.
  • According to another embodiment, said display is defined by a panel, preferably a printed cardboard panel or a printed glass panel or a printed metal panel. The panel can be made of any suitable material. This is a very easy and cheap solution for realizing a display. Furthermore, the panel could be detachable mounted to the door or to the cabinet with a form-fit and/or a force-fit connection. For example the panel could be slided behind the transparent display area or could be mounted to the door or cabinet with a clip.
  • In a further embodiment, said door is a sliding door or a swing door. Providing a sliding door is advantageous because only a minimum of space in front of the device is needed. A swing door has the advantage that the door does not block further areas of the device when it is in its open position.
  • According to another embodiment, said display is inclined towards the plane in which the display area is arranged, when the door is in its closed position. Inclining the display makes it for a customer easier to view the display, especially when the display area is arranged above the product presentation area.
  • There are several ways how to design and further develop the teaching of the present invention in an advantageous way. To this end, it is to be referred to the patent claims subordinate to the independent patent claims on the one hand and to the following explanation of preferred examples of embodiments of the invention, illustrated by the drawing on the other hand. In connection with the explanation of the preferred embodiments of the invention by the aid of the drawing, generally preferred embodiments and further developments of the teaching will be explained.   • Fig. 1 to 4 show different views of a cooler device 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention. As can best seen in Fig. 2 the cooler device 1 comprises a cabinet 2, four doors 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d and four displays 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d.
  • Each door 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d comprises a transparent product presentation area 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d through which the product storing regions 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d inside the cabinet 2 are viewable under a frontal view. In this embodiment, the product storing regions 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d are defined by shelves. Further, each door comprises a display area 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d arranged above the product storing region 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d such that the display area 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d and the product storing region 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d do not overlap with each other. Hence, under a frontal view the product storing region 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d is unobstructed by the display area 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d.
  • The dotted line 8 in Fig. 1 marks the border between the cooled area, i.e. the product presentation area 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, and the lower cabinet area. The dotted line 9 in Fig. 1 marks the border between the cooled area, i.e. the product presentation area 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, and the display area 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d. As can best seen in Fig. 2, the transparent product presentation area 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d and the display area 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d of each door 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d are defined by a single glass sheet 10. In order to realize a single glass sheet 10, the doors 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d each comprise a gas-filled insulating glass unit or a vacuum insulated glass unit defining the product presentation area 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d, wherein the front glass 11 of said gas-filled insulating glass unit or said vacuum insulated glass unit defines the display area 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d. Furthermore, the doors 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d each extend essentially to the top edge 12 of said cabinet 2 in such a way that it seems like the doors 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d are flush with the top edge 12 for an average consumer standing in front of the cooler device 1.
  • Fig. 3 shows one of the display areas 7b, 7d of the doors 3b, 3d. Said display areas 7b, 7d comprise a panel 13, for example a printed glass panel or a printed cardboard panel or any other printed or non-printed material that is used as a display 4b, 4d. Hence, the doors 3b, 3d each comprise a display 4b, 4d that is respectively defined by said display area 7b, 7d. In case a printed glass panel is used, the display areas 7b, 7d and the product presentation areas 5b, 5d could be defined by a single glass sheet 10.
  • Fig. 4 shows one of the display areas 7a, 7c, i.e. the glass sheets 10 of the doors 3a, 3c. Said display areas 7a, 7c are at least partly transparent such that the displays 4a, 4c are viewable through said display areas 7a, 7c. The displays 4a, 4c are mounted to the cabinet 2. It is noted that it is also possible to mount at least one of the displays 4a, 4c to the doors 7a, 7c. The glass sheets 10 could be separate from the glass sheets 10 defining the product presentation areas 5a, 5c. Furthermore, the glass sheets 10 of the display areas 7a, 7c and the glass sheets 10 of the product presentation areas 5a, 5c could be a single piece for each door 3a, 3c.
  • Both Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 show that the material forming the display area 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d is at least partly surrounded by a profile 14.
  • Fig. 5 shows a horizontal cross-sectional view of the transparent product presentation area 5 of the door 3 of a cooler device 2 according to a further embodiment of the present invention. The product presentation area 5 is defined by a gas-filled insulating glass unit (IGU) 15. Hence, the inside of the device is insulated against the warm ambient air. The IGU 15 is at least partly surrounded by a profile 14, whereby the front glass 11 of the IGU 15 extends partly over the profile 14. It is noted that instead of an IGU 15 the product presentation area 5 could be defined by a gas-filled insulating lass unit.
  • Fig. 6 shows a horizontal cross-sectional view of the display area 7 of a cooler device 2 according to a further embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment the display 4 is mounted to the door 3, whereby the display area 7 is transparent, for example defined by a glass sheet 10, such that the display 4 is viewable through the transparent glass sheet 10. The display 4 can be a screen or a panel and is mounted form-fit and/or force-fit to the door 3. For mounting the display 4 to the door, mounting means 16 are provided, namely a clip 17.
  • Fig. 7 shows a horizontal cross-sectional view of the display area 7 of a cooler device 2 according to a further embodiment of the present invention. The embodiment of Fig. 7 corresponds to the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, whereas the clip 15 differs in that it's shape is adjusted according to the shape of the lateral door construction in the adjacent area and that the clip in Fig. 7 is fixed for example by gluing and riveting on the backside of the display.
  • Fig. 8 shows a vertical cross-sectional view of a product presentation area 5 and a display area 7 of a door 3 for a cooler device 2 according to a further embodiment of the present invention. The product presentation area 5 and the display area 7 a defined by a single glass sheet 10, i.e. the front glass 10 of an IGU 15. Instead of an IGU 15 the product presentation area 5 can be defined by a VIG. The display area 7 is at least partly transparent, such that the display 3 is viewable. The display 4 is mounted to the door 3 and moves together with the door 3. The display 4 could be defined by a screen or a panel. Fig. 8 further shows that the display 4 is inclined towards the plane in which the door 3 is arranged, when the door 3 is in its closed position. The other elements of the door 3 can for example be realized according to the embodiment shown in fig. 1 to 4.
  • Fig. 9 shows a vertical cross-sectional view of a product presentation area 5 and a display area 7 of a door 3 for a cooler device 2 according to a further embodiment of the present invention. The transparent product presentation area 5 is defined by an IGU 15, such that the product storing region 6 is viewable under a frontal view. Instead of an IGU 15 the product presentation area 5 can be defined by a VIG. The door comprises a display 4 such that said display 4 defines the display area 7. The display 4 could be a screen or a panel and moves together with the door 3. Fig. 9 further shows that the display 4 is inclined towards the plane in which the door 3 is arranged, when the door 3 is in its closed position. The other elements of the door 3 can for example be realized according to the embodiment shown in fig. 1 to 4.
  • Fig. 10 shows a vertical cross-sectional view of a product presentation area 5 and a display area 7 of a door 3 for a cooler device 2 according to a further embodiment of the present invention. The product presentation area 5 and the display area 7 are defined by two separate glass sheets 10, 10'. Between the glass sheets 10, 10' is provided a connecting element 18. The connecting element 18 is preferably made of a soft material to avoid damages due to direct contact of the glass sheets 10, 10'. It can be further seen that the connecting element 18 has a Z-shaped cross section. A skilled person will understand that the connecting element 18 can also have a different cross section, for example a H-shaped cross section or a U-shaped cross section. The display area 7 is at least partly transparent, such that the display 4 is viewable. The display 4 is mounted to the door 3 and moves together with the door 3. The display 4 could be defined by a screen or a panel. Fig. 8 further shows that the display 4 is inclined towards the plane in which the door 3 is arranged, when the door 3 is in its closed position. The other elements of the door 3 can for example be realized according to the embodiment shown in fig. 1 to 4.
  • Fig. 11 shows a vertical cross-sectional view of a product presentation area 5 and a display area 7 of a door 3 for a cooler device 2 according to a further embodiment of the present invention. This embodiment differs from the embodiment shown in fig. 9 in that the connecting element 18 has essentially a U-shaped cross section.
  • The cavity of the connecting element 18 is used to hold additional elements 19 like for example light rods or light guides which can be illuminated with different colors to further support the customers while navigating in the shop. Different sortiments in the shop can be indicated by different colors.
  • Fig. 12 shows a vertical cross-sectional view of a product presentation area 5 and a display area 7 of a door 3 for a cooler device 2 according to a further embodiment of the present invention. The transparent product presentation area 5 is defined by an IGU 12, such that the product storing region 6 is viewable under a frontal view. Instead of and IGU 15 the product presentation area 5 can be defined by a VIG. The door comprises a display 4 such that said display 4 defines the display area 7. In this embodiment the display 4 is made of wood for creating an appealing, natural design. The display 4 moves together with the door 3, when the door is opened or closed. The other elements of the door 3 can for example be realized according to the embodiment shown in fig. 1 to 4.
  • Fig. 13a to 13d show different embodiments of a connecting element 18 for use with a door according to a further embodiment of the present invention. The connecting element 18 shown in fig. 13a has a H-shaped form. The connecting element 18 shown in fig. 13b has an U-shaped form. The connecting element 18 shown in fig. 13c has a T-shaped form. The connecting element 18 shown in fig. 13a has essentially a U-shaped form.
  • Many modifications and other embodiments of the invention set forth herein will come to mind to the one skilled in the art to which the invention pertains having the benefit of the teachings presented in the foregoing description and the associated drawings. Therefore, it is to be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the specific embodiments disclosed and that modifications and other embodiments are intended to be included within the scope of the appended claims.   1. Cooler device (1), preferably freezer device or chiller device, comprising a cabinet (2), at least one door (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d), at least one display (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) and at least one product storing region (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) being located inside the cabinet (2),
    wherein said door (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) comprises a transparent product presentation area (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) and a display area (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d), wherein under a frontal view said product storing region (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) is viewable through said transparent product presentation area (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d), wherein said transparent product presentation area (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) and said display area (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) do not overlap with each other, such that under a frontal view the product storing region (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) is unobstructed by the display area (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d),

  2. Cooler device (1) according to claim 1, wherein said door (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d) extends essentially to a top edge (12) and/or to a lower edge of said cabinet (2).
  3. Cooler device (1) according to claim 1 or 2, wherein a front of said product presentation area (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) and a front of said display area (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) are defined by a single glass sheet (10, 10').
  4. Cooler device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein said product presentation area (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) and/or said display area (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) is/are defined by a gas-filled insulating glass unit (15) or by a vacuum insulated glass unit.
  5. Cooler device (1) according to claim 4, wherein the display area (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) is defined by an extended front glass (11) of said gas-filled insulating glass unit (15) or by an extended front glass (11) of said vacuum insulated glass unit.
  6. Cooler device (1) according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said product presentation area (5a, 5b, 5c, 5d) and said display area (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) are defined by separate glass sheets (10, 10').
  7. Cooler device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein said display (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) is mounted to said door (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d).
  8. Cooler device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein said display (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) is mounted to said cabinet.
  9. Cooler device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein said display (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) is detachable mounted to said door (3a, 3b, 3c, 3d)and/or to said cabinet.
  10. Cooler device (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 9, wherein said display (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) is defined by a screen, preferably an LED-Screen or an LCD-Screen or an OLED-Screen, or wherein said display (4a, 4b, 4c, 4d) is defined by a projection surface.
