Description

A BULKHEAD APPARATUS Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a bulkhead apparatus which enables to compartmentalize particular vehicle cabins. Background of the Invention
There are many alternatives from light commercial vehicles to heavy commercial vehicles for carrying freight and goods. The cabins of these vehicles which are used for carrying loads are generally offered as an empty space (volume). The user can customize this cabin according to her/his needs. These customizations include the placement of shelves into the cabin, the partitioning of this cabin and similar alternatives. Bulkhead apparatuses are used for dividing the cabinets into compartments. In addition to the freight carrying vehicles, it may be necessary to separate the vehicle parts from each other, especially during transportation of domestic animals. For example, such a bulkhead may be used to prevent the domestic animal from passing from the rear part of the vehicle to the front part. That is to say, the need to divide the vehicle cabins into compartments is not present only in commercial vehicles, but also in passenger cars.
In the state of the art, there are some bulkheads for dividing the vehicle cabins.
The United States patent document no. US3168055, an application in the state of the art, discloses a bulkhead for railroad cars. The fixing pins provided on the said bulkhead are pushed into the pin apertures by means of a spring. The United States patent document no. US3802356, an application in the state of the art, discloses a lock pin mechanism used for bulkheads of freight carrying vehicles. The said pin that firs into the connection slots provided on the vehicle floor are pushed by means of a spring and fixed to these apertures.
Although the above mentioned documents disclose bulkheads that can be easily mounted and removed, they do not disclose any structure that prevents displacement, i.e. opening of these bulkheads in the event of an impact.
None of the state of the art documents include a bulkhead which can be easily mounted and removed and despite this facility, does not open in the event of a collision.
Summary of the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide a bulkhead apparatus that can be easily mounted and removed.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide a bulkhead which is not displaced in case of a collision.
Detailed Description of the Invention

The bulkhead apparatus (1) which enables particularly the vehicle cabins to be safely compartmentalized essentially comprises
at least one bulkhead (2) which enables to partition the space that is intended to be compartmentalized, at least one lock mechanism (3) which enables the bulkhead (2) to be locked and unlocked,
at least one lock striker (4) into which the lock mechanism (3) fits and which prevents movement of the bulkhead (2) together with the lock mechanism (3).
The bulkhead apparatus (1) of the present invention comprises a bulkhead which enables to a space by compartmentalizing it. This bulkhead (2) preferably comprises a hinge around which it can rotate. In other words, the bulkhead (2) can be thought of as a door wing. The bulkhead (2) can be opened and closed upon being rotated around this hinge. After the bulkhead (2) is closed, it is locked by means of the lock mechanism (3) and the lock striker (4) thereby preventing opening of the bulkhead. Surely, this configuration is an example and other configurations of the invention are possible.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the lock mechanism (3) comprises at least one hollow bushing (31),
at least one shaft (32), which is inserted into the bushing (31), is movable longitudinally within the bushing (31), and can rotate about its own axis, at least one latch (33), which is connected to the shaft (32), and which allows the user to move the shaft (32) within the bushing (31) and the shaft (32) to be rotated about its own axis,
at least one lock end (34) located at the end of the shaft (32) that is not inserted into the bushing (31),
at least one lug (35) connected to the lock end (34),
at least one spring (36) which enables the shaft (32) to be brought to a predetermined position,
at least one plug (37) which limits the longitudinal movement of the shaft
(32) and the spring (36) in the bushing (31),
at least one collar (38), which includes channels (381) into which the latch
(33) can engage upon rotating, and which prevents the longitudinal movement of the shaft (32) in the bushing (31) when the latch (33) is in the channel (381),
at least one lock pipe (39) which enables the lock mechanism (3) to be fixed to the bulkhead (2) and onto which particularly the bushing (31) and the collar (38) are fixed.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the lock striker (4) comprises
at least one lock bracket (41) which enables the lock striker (4) to be fixed, at least one opening (42), which is located on the lock bracket (41), and which allows the lock end (34) and the lug (35) to pass therethrough in one position of the latch (33) and does not allow the lock end (34) and the lug (35) to pass therethrough in another position of the latch (33),
at least one slot (43), into which the lock end (34) fits upon passing through the opening (42), and which prevents the shaft (32) and thus the parts connected to the shaft (32) from moving on a plane perpendicular to the length of the shaft (32).
When the bulkhead apparatus (1) of the present invention is positioned to divide a space, the user pushes the latch (33) towards the lock striker (4), enabling the lock end (34) to enter into the opening (42). The user then rotates the shaft (32) about its own axis and moves the latch (33) in the channel (381) provided on the collar (38). In this position of the latch (33), the lock end (34) and the lug (35) cannot pass through the opening (42). In other words, the lock mechanism (3) remains locked in the lock striker (4). Thus, during any collision, the lock mechanism (3) is prevented from being detached from the lock striker (4). In order to bring the bulkhead apparatus (1) to open position, the user rotates the latch (33) to a position opposite to the position previously turned and positions the lock end (34) and the lug (35) so as to pass through the opening (42). In this position, if the user does not exert a force on the latch (33), the restoring force of the spring (36) moves the lock mechanism (3) away from the lock striker (4). Thus, the lock end (3) moves away from the lock striker (4) and the bulkhead (2) is released. While the lock pipe (39), the bushing (31) and the collar (38) can be produced as a single piece, they can also be produced as different pieces and then assembled.
In one embodiment of the invention, a plug (37) is provided in the portion of the bushing (31) that is distant to the latch (33). The plug (37) in particular prevents the spring (36) from getting out of the bushing (31). In this embodiment, a plug (37) can also be provided at the end of the bushing (31) that is close to the latch (33).
In another embodiment of the invention, the bushing (31) may be in the form of a hollow cylinder with one end open and the other closed. If the bushing (31) is in a form as mentioned above, it is not necessary to use a plug (37) on the closed end of the bushing (31).
In one embodiment of the present invention, the bulkhead (2) has a completely detachable structure. Thus, when not in use, the bulkhead (2) can be removed from the vehicle and thus it is prevented from occupying space the vehicle. In this embodiment, there is preferably more than one lock mechanism (3) on the bulkhead (2). In addition, there is one lock striker (4) corresponding to each lock mechanism (3).
In one embodiment of the invention, the lock mechanism (3) comprises two lugs (35). In this embodiment, the lugs (35) are configured as in the form of“t”. To be more precise, the cross-sectional view of the shaft (32) and the lugs (35) is in the form of 0.
In one embodiment of the invention, the shape of the lock bracket (41) is preferably a more angular shape of the letter“P”. It can be considered that a portion of the protruding part of the letter“P” is almost parallel with the long edge of this letter. In this case, the opening (42) is located on the portion of the protruding part of the letter "P" parallel to the long edge of the letter. The slot (42) is located on the long edge and almost on the projection of the opening on the long edge. The lugs (35) are passed through the opening (42), and are rotated upon being inserted into the space remaining between the long edge and the portion of the protrusion hat is parallel to this edge.
In one embodiment of the present invention, the bulkhead apparatus (1) of the present invention may comprise more than one lock striker (4) for each lock mechanism (3). Thus, the bulkhead (2) can be fixed in more than one position. The lock striker (4) can be positioned anywhere in the vehicle. For example, when the vehicle seat is tilted, the lock mechanism (3) can be fixed to a lock striker (4) on the seat. The places where the key striker (4) can be located in the vehicle is not limited to the above given example. It is clear that there may be many configurations for fixing the bulkhead apparatus (1) of the present invention. For example, while one side of the bulkhead (2) can be fixed using the lock mechanism (3), the other part can be fixed by using a mechanism which is already available in the state of the art or can be developed in the future.
