Definitions
- the invention relates to an adhesive tape applicator with a holder for a roll of adhesive tape and at least one handle and an applicator head arranged in a fixed position relative to the handle.
- Adhesive tape applicators are of course known in principle in the prior art.
- the manual adhesive tape dispenser disclosed there has a foldable housing with two housing half-shells storing a roll of adhesive tape when folded together.
- An axle for attaching the roll of adhesive tape is formed by two axle supports that can be plugged into one another and are arranged on the inside of one of the two half-shells of the housing.
- the problem with the hand tape dispenser is that guided sticking of a masking tape along an edge at a specific distance is only possible with difficulty.
- the adhesive tape consists of a backing which has an adhesive layer on one side and whose adhesive mass is covered by a strip of release material.
- the hand tape dispenser allows the strip of release material to be automatically detached from the adhesive layer of the carrier during the application process.
- This hand tape dispenser also has the disadvantage that on the one hand it is difficult to apply the tape in a guided manner along an edge and on the other hand a handle directed in the direction of application impedes the application in the direction of application.
- a problem with the known applicators is that they are not suitable for sticking an adhesive tape on the inside of a gap.
- gaps arise, for example, in motor vehicle construction between a roof rail and a door.
- the doors are not yet fitted with an interior paneling and seals, so that there is a gap of a few millimeters forms between the door and a roof.
- a gap is formed along the front door between the A and B pillars and along the rear door between the B and C pillars along the entire roof pillar.
- the doors are hinged and closed during vehicle manufacture.
- the entire body is first painted in a first color.
- a detachable adhesive strip must then be applied to the first color in order to ensure a defined paint edge between the first and a second paint finish.
- the strip of adhesive tape is glued to the inside of the roof rail along the door gap.
- the roof rail has an angle between the inside and the outside that can change over the longitudinal extent, which is around 90°, but can certainly vary between 45° and 145°.
- Known adhesive tape applicators do not allow stable manual guidance along the gap.
- the object of the invention is therefore to provide an adhesive tape applicator mentioned at the outset which makes it possible to glue an adhesive tape to the inside of a gap, even if the outer contact surface of the gap changes over the longitudinal extent.
- the invention makes use of the idea of providing an adhesive tape applicator with an applicator head on which a deflection edge unit is arranged so that it can move relative to the applicator head.
- the turning edge unit is short in a longitudinal direction, i. H. 5 to 10 cm or even shorter, and has a height of less than 2 cm, preferably less than 1 cm, preferably less than 0.5 cm, so that the deflection edge unit can be inserted into the gap.
- the deflection edge unit that is movable relative to the applicator head is preferably preloaded with a spring.
- an angle of a neutral position is preferably smaller than a smallest angle of the roof rail between the contact side and the application side, so that an application side of the deflection edge unit always bears against an application side of the roof rail under pressure.
- the application side of the roof rail is the side of the gap where the tape is applied.
- the deflection edge unit is rotatable about a longitudinal axis relative to the applicator head, and the deflection edge unit is coupled to the applicator head by means of a spring that presses the deflection edge unit into a neutral position relative to the applicator head.
- the neutral position is an angular position that is smaller than the smallest outer angle between the lateral contact side and the application side of the profile to be bonded, in particular the roof rail, of a motor vehicle.
- the spring can preferably be a leg spring which is threaded around a longitudinal axis and rests with one leg on the deflection edge unit and with another leg around the applicator head and holds it in the neutral position.
- the applicator head preferably has at least one transverse groove for the adhesive tape running transversely to the application direction and a longitudinal groove arranged in the application direction on an application side of the deflection edge unit.
- the transverse groove is intended to guide the adhesive tape from a handle side of the applicator head under the applicator along the transverse groove to the application side of the applicator head.
- the transverse groove is preferably completely, at least partially, guided along the deflection edge unit.
- the transverse groove ends in an inclined deflection edge around which the adhesive tape is guided and then further guided through the longitudinal groove along the application side.
- the deflection edge can also be designed as a groove.
- the adhesive side of the adhesive tape is exposed on the application side, so that the adhesive side can be stuck directly to the inside of the roof rail.
- a pressing aid preferably an adhesive pressure tape
- the adhesive pressure tape can be a foam adhesive tape that is glued into the longitudinal groove along a portion of its longitudinal extent, possibly also along the entire longitudinal extent.
- a free side of the pressing aid opposite the groove can be provided with an additional friction-reducing layer, so that the adhesive tape runs along the layer with as little friction as possible and is pressed against the inside of the roof rail by the pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. It is also conceivable that a so-called gliding tape is stuck over the entire groove including the pressing aid.
- a receptacle preferably has a mandrel aligned in the direction of application, onto which the roll of adhesive tape can be pushed, the adhesive tape being able to be fed to the applicator head around at least one, preferably two, deflection rollers. Any higher number of deflection rollers is also conceivable.
- the receptacle is preferably arranged in such a way that the roll of adhesive tape is arranged with its winding level preferably transversely, particularly preferably perpendicularly, to the direction of application, so that the adhesive tape rolls off the roll of adhesive tape with its adhesive side perpendicular to the direction of application.
- the adhesive tape is deflected and aligned in the direction of application after it has passed the at least one deflection roller.
- the applicator head with the deflection edge unit is particularly preferably arranged on a base unit so that it can be exchanged.
- the base unit includes the handle and the holder for the roll of tape.
- the applicator head is a consumable item as the tape wraps around the deflection edge and this wears down over time.
- the pressure tape can both wear out and the magnets can lose strength.
- the deflection edge unit expediently has a first and a second deflection edge, the second being arranged as a mirror image of the first.
- the deflection edge unit is arranged on the applicator head, and the applicator head can be fixed in different positions on a block of the base unit. The different positions correspond to the two different directions of application with which the tape can be glued into the gap by a user with a manual pivoting movement. The user can insert the adhesive tape into the gap with a movement from right to left or with another movement from left to right. Depending on the application direction, one of the two deflection edges is used. Depending on the direction of application, the entire adhesive tape applicator is rebuilt accordingly.
- the applicator head has a lateral contact side on which at least one magnet is arranged. At least one magnet is also arranged on the application side. The magnets keep the contact side and the application side in constant contact with a metal profile during application.
- the deflection edge unit can be arranged so that it can move relative to the applicator head, but it is preferred if the deflection edge unit is rigid.
- the one in the 1 The sectional view shown shows the adhesive tape applicator according to the invention with a receptacle 1 for an adhesive tape roll 2.
- the adhesive tape roll 2 can be exchanged or replaced after consumption.
- a free end of an adhesive tape 3 detached from the adhesive tape roll 2 is deflected via a first and a second deflection roller 4 , 6 (not shown) and fed to an applicator head 7 with a deflection edge unit 8 .
- the adhesive tape roll 2 has an adhesive side applied to the adhesive tape on the inside of the windings.
- the adhesive tape applicator comprises a base unit 9 and the applicator head 7 arranged interchangeably on the base unit 9.
- the base unit 9 comprises the receptacle 1 for the roll of adhesive tape 2 with a mandrel arranged at its free end, onto which the roll of adhesive tape 2 can be attached, and a block 11 which the receptacle 1 is fastened in a fixed position.
- At least one handle 12 is arranged in a fixed position relative to the block 11 on the block 11 opposite the applicator head 7 .
- the handle 12 is attached to a plate 13 which in turn is attached to the block 11.
- the two deflection rollers 4, 6 are arranged rotatably on the side of the block 11 opposite.
- the applicator head 7 is releasably screwed to the block 11.
- the deflection edge unit 8 is provided on the applicator head 7 on the side facing away from the adhesive tape roll 2 .
- the deflection edge unit 8 is opposite Applicator head 7 formed pivotable by an angle ⁇ .
- the deflection edge unit 8 is arranged on the applicator head 7 such that it can be pivoted about a longitudinal axis L.
- the longitudinal axis L runs in an application direction A of the adhesive tape 3.
- the adhesive tape roll 2 also has a longitudinal axis which is also arranged in the application direction A.
- the deflection edge unit 8 has an application side 14, which 1 is arranged on top of the deflection edge unit 8.
- a longitudinal groove 16 is provided along the application side 14 .
- the adhesive pressure tape 17 is an adhesive foam tape that has a width that corresponds to a width B of the longitudinal groove 16 .
- the adhesive pressure tape 17 extends along a section of the longitudinal extent of the longitudinal groove 16 and is glued into the longitudinal groove 16 .
- a friction-reducing layer can be applied to a free outside of the pressure-sensitive adhesive tape 17 facing away from the longitudinal groove 16 .
- the adhesive tape 3 is guided around a deflection edge 18 that is inclined relative to the application direction A.
- 2 shows the detailed structure of the deflection edge unit 8 in a review of the deflection edge unit 8.
- the in 2 Adhesive tape 3, no longer shown, is wrapped around the first deflection roller 4 and the second deflection roller 6, which follows in a peeling direction, according to FIG 1 guided.
- the adhesive tape 3 is guided below the deflection edge unit 8 in a transverse groove 19 which is embedded in the deflection edge unit 8, from a handle side to the deflection edge 18 of the applicator head 7.
- the transverse groove 19 runs perpendicularly to the application direction A and perpendicularly to the axis of rotation of the deflection edge unit 8.
- the transverse groove 19 opens into the oblique deflection edge 18.
- An adhesive tape guide is guided around the deflection edge 18 and in the longitudinal groove 16 on the application side 14 of the applicator head 7, or the deflection edge unit 8, continued.
- the longitudinal groove 16 runs in the application direction A.

- the angle ⁇ is measured between the application side 14 of the deflection edge unit 8 and a lateral contact side 26 of the applicator head 7 .
- angles ⁇ of the neutral position are also conceivable.
- a force must therefore be exerted on the deflection edge unit 8 both when the deflection edge unit 8 is folded out and when the deflection edge unit 8 is folded in from the neutral position.
- the deflection edge unit 8 is folded out manually with a thumb or a finger into an approximately vertical position relative to the applicator head 7 .
- the roll of adhesive tape 2 is slipped onto the mandrel of the receptacle 1 and the adhesive tape 3 is threaded over the deflection rollers 4, 6 through the transverse groove 19, around the deflection edge 18 and through the longitudinal groove 16.
- the application gap is, for example, the gap between a roof rail 36 of a motor vehicle and the closed door of the motor vehicle, the door not yet being provided with an inner lining and seals, so that the gap a few millimeters wide between the door and the roof rail 36 is formed .
- the roof rail 36 has different angles, for example between the C-pillar and B-pillar and the B-pillar and A-pillar of the motor vehicle, to which the adhesive tape applicator according to the invention adapts automatically when pulled along by connecting the adhesive tape applicator to both the lateral contact side 26 is pulled against the roof rail 36 and the deflection edge unit 8 is pulled with its application side 14 against the roof rail 36 from below.

Description
The invention relates to an adhesive tape applicator with a holder for a roll of adhesive tape and at least one handle and an applicator head arranged in a fixed position relative to the handle.
Adhesive tape applicators are of course known in principle in the prior art.

A problem with the known applicators is that they are not suitable for sticking an adhesive tape on the inside of a gap. Such gaps arise, for example, in motor vehicle construction between a roof rail and a door.
During the production of the vehicle, the doors are not yet fitted with an interior paneling and seals, so that there is a gap of a few millimeters forms between the door and a roof. A gap is formed along the front door between the A and B pillars and along the rear door between the B and C pillars along the entire roof pillar.
The doors are hinged and closed during vehicle manufacture. In an increasingly popular two-tone painting of the vehicle, the entire body is first painted in a first color. A detachable adhesive strip must then be applied to the first color in order to ensure a defined paint edge between the first and a second paint finish. The strip of adhesive tape is glued to the inside of the roof rail along the door gap. Disadvantageously, the roof rail has an angle between the inside and the outside that can change over the longitudinal extent, which is around 90°, but can certainly vary between 45° and 145°. Known adhesive tape applicators do not allow stable manual guidance along the gap.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide an adhesive tape applicator mentioned at the outset which makes it possible to glue an adhesive tape to the inside of a gap, even if the outer contact surface of the gap changes over the longitudinal extent.
The object is achieved by an adhesive tape dispenser mentioned at the outset having the features of
The invention makes use of the idea of providing an adhesive tape applicator with an applicator head on which a deflection edge unit is arranged so that it can move relative to the applicator head. The turning edge unit is short in a longitudinal direction, i. H. 5 to 10 cm or even shorter, and has a height of less than 2 cm, preferably less than 1 cm, preferably less than 0.5 cm, so that the deflection edge unit can be inserted into the gap.
The deflection edge unit that is movable relative to the applicator head is preferably preloaded with a spring. In this case, an angle of a neutral position is preferably smaller than a smallest angle of the roof rail between the contact side and the application side, so that an application side of the deflection edge unit always bears against an application side of the roof rail under pressure.
The application side of the roof rail is the side of the gap where the tape is applied.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the deflection edge unit is rotatable about a longitudinal axis relative to the applicator head, and the deflection edge unit is coupled to the applicator head by means of a spring that presses the deflection edge unit into a neutral position relative to the applicator head. The neutral position is an angular position that is smaller than the smallest outer angle between the lateral contact side and the application side of the profile to be bonded, in particular the roof rail, of a motor vehicle.
The spring can preferably be a leg spring which is threaded around a longitudinal axis and rests with one leg on the deflection edge unit and with another leg around the applicator head and holds it in the neutral position.
The applicator head preferably has at least one transverse groove for the adhesive tape running transversely to the application direction and a longitudinal groove arranged in the application direction on an application side of the deflection edge unit. The transverse groove is intended to guide the adhesive tape from a handle side of the applicator head under the applicator along the transverse groove to the application side of the applicator head. The transverse groove is preferably completely, at least partially, guided along the deflection edge unit. The transverse groove ends in an inclined deflection edge around which the adhesive tape is guided and then further guided through the longitudinal groove along the application side. The deflection edge can also be designed as a groove.
The adhesive side of the adhesive tape is exposed on the application side, so that the adhesive side can be stuck directly to the inside of the roof rail.
A pressing aid, preferably an adhesive pressure tape, is preferably introduced along the longitudinal groove. The adhesive pressure tape can be a foam adhesive tape that is glued into the longitudinal groove along a portion of its longitudinal extent, possibly also along the entire longitudinal extent. A free side of the pressing aid opposite the groove can be provided with an additional friction-reducing layer, so that the adhesive tape runs along the layer with as little friction as possible and is pressed against the inside of the roof rail by the pressure-sensitive adhesive tape. It is also conceivable that a so-called gliding tape is stuck over the entire groove including the pressing aid.
A receptacle preferably has a mandrel aligned in the direction of application, onto which the roll of adhesive tape can be pushed, the adhesive tape being able to be fed to the applicator head around at least one, preferably two, deflection rollers. Any higher number of deflection rollers is also conceivable.
The receptacle is preferably arranged in such a way that the roll of adhesive tape is arranged with its winding level preferably transversely, particularly preferably perpendicularly, to the direction of application, so that the adhesive tape rolls off the roll of adhesive tape with its adhesive side perpendicular to the direction of application. As a result of the deflection around the deflection edge, which is preferably arranged at a 45° angle, the adhesive tape is deflected and aligned in the direction of application after it has passed the at least one deflection roller.
The applicator head with the deflection edge unit is particularly preferably arranged on a base unit so that it can be exchanged. The base unit includes the handle and the holder for the roll of tape. The applicator head is a consumable item as the tape wraps around the deflection edge and this wears down over time. In addition, the pressure tape can both wear out and the magnets can lose strength.
The deflection edge unit expediently has a first and a second deflection edge, the second being arranged as a mirror image of the first. The deflection edge unit is arranged on the applicator head, and the applicator head can be fixed in different positions on a block of the base unit.
More preferably, the applicator head has a lateral contact side on which at least one magnet is arranged. At least one magnet is also arranged on the application side. The magnets keep the contact side and the application side in constant contact with a metal profile during application.
In this variant, the deflection edge unit can be arranged so that it can move relative to the applicator head, but it is preferred if the deflection edge unit is rigid.

The adhesive tape applicator comprises a
On the opposite side of the

The
To apply the
Then the
