Description

The present invention relates to a drumstick for a percussion instrument according to independent claim 1 and a corresponding manufacturing method.

A drum stick or stop stick or drum stick or mallet for instruments and materials capable of resonance, in particular percussion instruments such as drums and cymbals, is generally known.

When practicing, however, it happens that the musician does not have the opportunity to fall back on the actual instrument. He usually uses another hard and non-resonant surface, for example a table top, as a basis for drumming. The drumstick according to the invention is intended in particular for these purposes.

So already describes the document DE 1775085 U a drumstick, the tip and the lower end of the shaft of which are stabilized with a celluloid coating which is applied in liquid form.

DE 202012003953 U1 in turn describes a stop stick for an instrument, which has a shaft that shows at least one rounded end of the game, with a rubber cap being provided on the end of the game or on at least one of the ends of the game, which encases the respective end of the game on one side. Cap touches the respective end of the game with its inner surface without air inclusion.

The two aforementioned drumsticks have in common that the drumstick head is designed as a celluloid cover or rubber cap and is preferably permanently connected to the drumstick shaft. Both the cover and the cap are designed for certain sound properties and cannot be changed.

The document US 7514618 describes a drum stick with a synthetic tip, the outer shell of the tip for optimization the sound behavior provides notches of different characteristics. This embodiment of the synthetic tip is intended to reflect the sound behavior of wood. The disadvantage of this configuration of the tip, however, is that the notches can wear the batter heads excessively.

The documents US 2014/069259 and U.S. 5,763,798 each disclose a drumstick for a percussion instrument comprising a substantially elongated mallet shaft, a connecting piece being formed on at least one shaft end and this connecting piece being encased by a mallet head, the mallet head having a through hole which is closed at the upper end by a cover . The through hole has a recess on the inner lateral surface.

The object of the present invention is to provide a drumstick which avoids at least one of the disadvantages of the prior art.

Furthermore, the object of the present invention is to provide a drumstick which is primarily not used for drumming on a percussion instrument, but for drumming on hard non-resonant surfaces, such as table tops.

Another object is to propose a cost-optimized manufacturing process in which a permanent and at the same time secure connection between the flail head and the flail shaft of the drum mallet is guaranteed.

These objects are achieved in particular by a drumstick according to claim 1, a corresponding method according to claim 9 and a drumstick head for a drumstick according to claim 11.

Preferred embodiments are given in the dependent claims.

The drumstick according to the invention comprises an essentially elongated mallet shaft, a connecting piece being formed on at least one shaft end. This connection piece is encased in a flail head. The flail head has a blind hole which receives the connection piece. The blind hole comprises an inner jacket surface which is in contact with the connecting piece. At least one recess is provided on the inner lateral surface so that between the connection piece and the At least one cavity is formed in the recess.

In a first embodiment, the inner circumferential surface has a plurality of individual depressions. These depressions are ring-shaped, arranged on the inner circumferential surface.

In one embodiment, the depressions have an angular shape with a depression width and a depression length.

In one embodiment, the recess is designed as an annular groove surrounding the inner jacket surface.

In one embodiment, the cavity that results between the recess and the connection piece is filled with a filler material, preferably with an adhesive, or has no filler material and is preferably only filled with air.
In one embodiment, the depressions are filled alternately with adhesive and air.

In one embodiment, the flail head is made of a more elastic material than the connecting piece, preferably the flail head is made of a polymer.

The method according to the invention for producing a drum mallet with a mallet shank and a mallet head comprises a first method step in which a connecting piece is molded onto at least one end of the mallet shank. In a second method step, the flail head is connected to the connection piece, having a blind hole which receives the connection piece and which comprises an inner lateral surface with at least one recess, so that at least one cavity is formed between the connection piece and the recess.

In a variant embodiment of the method according to the invention, a filler material, preferably an adhesive, is introduced into at least one of the depressions in the second method step.

The flail head according to the invention comprises a blind hole which is set up to receive a drumstick, preferably its connecting piece, the blind hole being an inner one Has lateral surface, wherein at least one recess is provided on the inner lateral surface.

In one embodiment of the flail head, several individual depressions are provided on the inner circumferential surface. These depressions are ring-shaped, arranged on the inner circumferential surface. In one embodiment, the depressions have an angular shape, with a depression width and a depression length.

In a further embodiment, the recess is designed as an annular groove surrounding the inner jacket surface.

The flail head is preferably made of a polymer material.

One of the advantages of the invention is that the sound behavior can be varied accordingly with the same polymer material by means of an appropriate structural design of the depressions. If the recess is chosen to be larger, the wall of the impact head becomes thinner. The stop behavior is correspondingly softer. By using adhesive, however, the cavities formed by the depressions with respect to the connection piece can be filled, which in turn leads to a change in the impact or sound behavior.

The drumstick according to the invention is mainly used, not to drum on percussion instruments, but for training purposes on hard, non-resonant surfaces. With the drumstick according to the invention it is possible to simulate a sound behavior which is similar to drumming on a surface capable of resonance, that is to say a drum.

  • Fig. 7 shows a further view of the flail head (in the direction of the arrow "B", cf. Fig. 5 ).

Figure 1 illustrates a drumstick 1 for a percussion instrument, with an essentially elongated mallet shaft 12, a connecting piece 120 being molded onto the mallet shaft 12 on at least one end of the shaft. A flail head 10 made of polymer material is arranged on the connecting piece 120 with a covering on one side and is connected to it.

Figure 2 illustrates a according to Figure 1 , Section line AA, sectional view of the flail head 10 designed for impact. The flail head 10 comprises a blind hole 102 with an inner jacket surface 101 and a collar 1020.

In order to enlarge the inner lateral surface 101, one or more depressions 105 arranged essentially concentrically to the central axis M of the flail head 10 are formed on the inner lateral surface 101. When the flail head 10 on the connector 120 is pushed on, one or more cavities therefore result between the inner jacket surface 101 and the connection piece 120. The sound image when playing the percussion instrument can in this way be influenced as a function of the inclusion of air and / or adhesive in one or more cavities. When the percussion instrument is played with, an outer jacket surface 100 designated by reference numeral 100 comes into contact with the latter, so that a force acts on the wall W of the flail head 10 and at least partially temporarily deforms it. The material and / or thickness of the wall W thus directly influences the sound behavior when playing or playing the percussion instrument. By suitably shaping the depression (s) 105, the sound behavior of the respective drumstick can thus be changed.

Figure 3 illustrates a partially shown flail shaft 12 with connecting piece 120 from Figure 1 , the connecting piece 120 being insertable into the flail head 10. The connection piece 120 comprises an end piece head 121 and an end piece neck 122. The end piece head 121 connects to the end piece neck 122. The end piece neck 122 opens into the flail shaft 12.

If the flail head 10 is attached to the connection piece 120 (assembled state), the collar 1020 encloses ( Fig. 2 ) the end piece neck 122. One or more cavities are formed in this way between the end piece head 121 and the depressions 105.

Figure 4 FIG. 11 illustrates a perspective, sectioned view of the FIG Figure 2 Schlegelkopfs shown. The width 1050 and the length 1052 of the depressions 105 or cavities 105 are shown in greater detail. It can be clearly seen how the wall W of the flail head 10 tapers or becomes thinner in the region of the depressions 105.

Figure 5 FIG. 11 illustrates a perspective view of the FIG Figure 1 Schlegelkopfs shown.

Figure 6 illustrates a side view of a flail head 10 made of polymer material. Furthermore, the depth 1054 and the width 1052 of the depressions 105 can be seen.

Figure 7 FIG. 14 illustrates a view in the direction of arrow "B" of FIG Fig. 5 illustrated embodiments of the flail head according to the invention. The depth of the depressions 105 and their width 1050 can also be seen in this illustration.

When manufacturing a drumstick 1 for a percussion instrument, in a first process step a mallet shaft 12 with at least one shaft end or also called a connecting piece 120 is manufactured (reference number according to FIG Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 3 ). In a variant embodiment of the method according to the invention, the connecting piece 120, which is designed to receive the flail head 10, is molded onto one end of the flail shaft 12. Flail shaft 12 and connecting piece 120 are preferably turned from a one-piece wood or laminated wood worked by sawing. The flail shaft 12 is usually painted at least once. The shaft end or connection piece 120 is optionally painted or untreated. The flail head 10 is molded from polymeric material, wherein it has a blind hole 102 which essentially corresponds to the shape of the connection piece 120 of the flail shaft 12. The basis for the manufacture of the flail head is polymer material, which can be cut, sintered, cast or produced using other conventional processes. The outer jacket surface 100 of the flail head 10 should be uniform, preferably smooth. The flail head 10 is preferably designed to be rotationally symmetrical.

On the inner lateral surface 101 of the blind hole 102, the depressions 105 are arranged, preferably distributed in a ring. The depressions 105 contribute to the enlargement of the inner jacket surface 101. The flail head 10 is pressed onto the connection piece 120 and / or glued to it, the flail head 10 encasing the connection piece 120 on one side. Instead of pressing and / or gluing, the flail head 10 can also be cast directly onto the connection piece. The connection between Schlegelkopf and the connection piece is permanent, so that the fixation makes it impossible to rotate or move the flail head 10.

Bevorzugtes Material ist Gummi mit Shore-Härte "A" (Gemessen nach DIN 53505), wobei die gewünschte Härte zwischen Shore A 40 und Shore A 70 liegt, bevorzugt ist eine Härte von Shore A 60.Polymers which are preferably used for the flail head are those which do not become brittle and which have good elasticity, impact resistance and absorption capacity. Examples of practical materials are nylon, polyethylene, polypropylene, hard rubber, silicone, and butadiene such as butadiene rubber. The preferred material is rubber with Shore hardness "A" (measured in accordance with DIN 53505), the desired hardness being between Shore A 40 and Shore A 70, a Shore A 60 hardness being preferred.

The depth of the wall W of the flail head is reduced by the depressions 150 having a width 1050, a length 1052 and a depth 1054. Surprisingly, it was found that the impact behavior of the drumstick changes with respect to the sound. In addition, the position of the depressions 150 can be selected accordingly so that a desired playing behavior can be achieved. In a preferred embodiment of the flail head (not visible in the figures), the recess 105 is annular, preferably designed as an annular groove. The annular groove is arranged on the inner circumferential surface 101 of the blind hole 105 and runs coaxially to a central axis M of the flail head 10.
