Description

    A REFRIGERATOR COMPRISING A CRISPER
  • The present invention relates to a refrigerator that comprises a crisper wherein humidity control is performed.
  • Refrigerators comprise a fresh food compartment wherein foods and beverages are stored, a freezer compartment that enables foods to be stored by being frozen, and a crisper that is disposed in the fresh food compartment wherein foods such as vegetables and fruits are stored. In order to prevent the foods placed in the crisper from dehydrating by sweating, the air flow between the crisper and the fresh food compartment is enabled to remain at a limited level. Accordingly, a temperature difference, although small, occurs between the crisper and the fresh food compartment interior volume. Depending on the temperature difference, sweating occurs on the surfaces that separate the fresh food compartment interior volume and the crisper. The condensation occurring on the surfaces of the crisper results in dripping of water on the foods stored in the crisper and this causes the foods to spoil by adversely affecting storage lives of the foods.
  • Various methods are developed in the technique in order to prevent the formation of water drops by regulating the humidity balance of the crisper and to provide air movement in the crisper.
  • In the state of the art United States of America Patent Application No. US4557118, passageways are described, that enable the passage of the air in the refrigerator compartment.
  • The aim of the present invention is to prevent water drops from being formed on the crisper and the drawer due to the temperature difference between the inner volumes of the crisper and the refrigerator.
  • The refrigerator realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a first inclined surface that is situated on the side of the drawer front wall facing the inside of the drawer and that enables the air exiting the crisper by means of the air outlet opening to at least partially follow an inclined path, and a second surface that is inclined in the direction of the air flow, that is situated on the lid and that extends towards the air outlet opening.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the first surface and the second surface face the same direction at the same level when the drawer is placed into the crisper. Thus, the air flows in an uninterrupted manner from the first surface to the second surface.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the air outlet opening narrows from bottom to top.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the first surface is situated at the upper side of the drawer front wall.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the second surface extends along the front side of the lid. Thus, the air is prevented from forming water drops all along the front side of the crisper while passing through the lid.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the first surface extends along the front side of the drawer. Thus, the air is prevented from forming water drops all along the front side of the crisper while passing through the crisper.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator comprises an additional drawer that is placed under the lid and that remains inside the drawer when the drawer is placed into the crisper. The second surface is situated opposite the front wall of the additional drawer.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the first surface is at least partially situated opposite the front wall of the additional drawer when the additional drawer is placed into the crisper.
  • By means of the present invention, sweating is prevented from occurring on the surfaces of the crisper and the drawer, and foods stored in the crisper are prevented from being spoiled due to water dripping thereon, hence the storage lives of foods in the crisper are increased.
  • The refrigerator realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
  • Figure 1 – is the schematic view of a refrigerator and a crisper.
  • The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
    1. Refrigerator
    2. Body
    3. Crisper
    4. Drawer
    5. Lid
    6. Air outlet opening
    7. First surface
    8. Second surface
    9. Additional drawer
  • A: Air blowing opening
  • The refrigerator (1) comprises a body (2) wherein foods and beverages are placed, a crisper (3) disposed inside the body (2), at least one drawer (4) that is disposed into the crisper (3) wherein fruits and vegetables are placed, a lid (5) that is situated on the crisper (3) and that remains above the drawer (4) when the drawer (4) is placed into the crisper (3), and an air outlet opening (6) that is arranged at the front side of the lid (5) and that enables the air inside the crisper (3) to be discharged outside.
  • The refrigerator (1) of the present invention comprises
    • a first surface (7) that is situated on the drawer (4) front wall, that extends into the drawer (4) in an inclined manner and that guides the air circulating inside the drawer (4) towards the air outlet opening (6), and
    • a second surface (8) that is situated on the lid (5) and that extends from the first surface (7) to the air outlet opening (6) in an inclined manner
  • (Figure 1).
  • The air blown into the crisper (3) through the air blowing opening (A) is discharged outside of the crisper (3) by means of the air outlet opening (6) after circulating the inside of the crisper (3). The air is prevented from forming water drops on the drawer (4) by means of the first surface (7) that is situated on the drawer (4) front wall and that extends towards the inside and the upper side of the drawer (4) in an inclined manner. Similarly, the second surface (8) inclined in the direction of the air flow and situated on the lid (5) prevents the formation of air drops on the lid (5) in the vicinity of the air outlet opening (6). The inclined structures of the first surface (7) and the second surface (8) in the direction of the air flow prevent the air rising inside the crisper (3) from accumulating at a single region while exiting the crisper (3), thus providing the continuity of the air flow and preventing condensation.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the first surface (7) and the second surface (8) become coplanar when the drawer (4) is placed into the crisper (3). Thus, the air flows in an uninterrupted manner from the first surface (7) to the second surface (8).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the air outlet opening (6) narrows from bottom to top. The air sweeping over the first surface (7) and the second surface (8) exits the crisper (3) with an increased speed. Since the air exits the crisper (3) with an increased speed, the air is prevented from condensing at the air outlet opening (6) while exiting the crisper (3).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the first surface (7) is situated at the upper side of the drawer (4) front wall. Since the air inside the crisper (3) does not accumulate at a single region until reaching the first surface (7), condensations does not occur along the air flow path in the crisper (3). By means of the first surface (7) situated at the upper side of the crisper (3), the air is prevented from accumulating at this region and enabled to flow in a continuous manner.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the second surface (8) extends along the front side of the lid (5). The second surface (8) extends longitudinally on the front side of the lid (5). Thus, the air is prevented from forming water drops while passing through the lid (5).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the first surface (7) extends along the front side of the drawer (4). The first surface (7) extends longitudinally on the front side of the drawer (4). Thus, the air is prevented from forming water drops while passing through the lid (5).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator (1) comprises an additional drawer (9) that is placed under the lid (5) and that remains inside the drawer (4) when the drawer (4) is placed into the crisper (3). The second surface (8) is situated opposite the front wall of the additional drawer (9). Thus, formation of water drops on the surface of the additional drawer (9) front wall facing the drawer (4) is prevented.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the first surface (7) is at least partially situated opposite the front wall of the additional drawer (9) when the additional drawer (9) is placed into the crisper (3). Thus, formation of water drops on the surface of the additional drawer (9) or in the vicinity of the lid (5) is prevented while the air exits through the air outlet opening (6).
  • In the refrigerator (1) of the present invention, by means of the inclined first surface (7) situated at the front side of the crisper (3) and the inclined second surface (8), sweating is prevented while the air inside the crisper (3) is discharged.
