Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a drying machine having a condenser unit, said machine having a locking mechanism for the condenser unit.
- A conventional clothes dryer having a condenser is a machine in the form of a tumble clothes dryer without an external vent. In a vented clothes dryer, air is typically drawn from the surrounding area, heated and blown through the clothes as the drum is rotated. Hot air then evaporates water in the fabrics, and the moisture-laden air is exhausted through a vent duct. In a drying machine with a condenser, on the other hand, air within the drum is heated, blown through the tumbling clothes, and then the moisture-laden air is passed through a heat exchanger, where the water recondenses. The same dry air is then reheated and the cycle is repeated.
- The second loop in a drying machine with a condenser consists of either air or water. Some condenser dryer models are air-cooled, and use the ambient room air in this effect, by blowing it across the heat exchanger. The condensed water can be pumped away to a drain line. In combined washer/dryers, the ventless condenser system is also commonly used, but in these cases the condensers are water-cooled.
- With standalone condenser dryers, it is generally necessary to periodically clean the condenser unit. To accomplish this, one needs to slide out the condenser module and wash off any accumulated lint. Thus drying machines with condenser require more maintenance work compared to vented dryers.
- The present invention provides a drying machine having a condenser, said condenser unit having a locking mechanism. Accordingly, users of such drying machines may conveniently remove condenser units and reinstall those accurately. The condenser unit locking mechanism of the present invention therefore provides an easier and more user-friendly maintenance operation.
- The present invention provides a condenser clothes dryer condenser unit locking mechanism as defined in the characterizing portion of Claim 1.
- Primary object of the present invention is to provide a condenser clothes dryer condenser unit which can be secured and locked in place in an easier manner as can be accomplished by users and owners of said condenser clothes dryer.
- The present invention proposes a drying machine with a condenser unit which is slidably removable therefrom and installable thereinto. A locking mechanism having at least one locking arm and preferably two arms is provided for locking said condenser unit. Said locking arm is rotatable around one of its ends and its second end has a lock member that interlocks with a lock slot on said condenser unit.
- Said condenser unit has a locking guide and said lock member is moved therein in a guided manner. It moves back and forth between two extremities of said locking guide to effect locking and unlocking. A visual indication in the form of a locking or unlocking indication is provided at each extremity of said locking guide. Said locking guide’s two ends are designed as arrows self-effective as indication means for indicating a locking or an unlocking direction in said locking guide. One of said indication arrows encircles said lock slot.
- Said lock member is a tubular body divided into two longitudinal parts by a diametrically extending longitudinal gap in between. Said two longitudinally extending parts are in the form of two semi-circular tubular halves.
- Said locking guide has a locking guide neck through which said lock member can pass by a slight deformation; that is, said gap narrows to a certain degree for allowing passage into said lock slot.
- Accompanying drawings are given solely for the purpose of exemplifying the condenser clothes dryer locking mechanism of the present invention whose advantages were outlined above and will be explained hereinafter in brief.
- The drawings are not meant to delimit the scope of protection as identified in the claims nor should they be referred to alone in an effort to interpret the scope identified in said claims without recourse to the technical disclosure in the description of the present invention.
- Fig. 1 demonstrates a schematic perspective view of a condenser unit in a drying machine according to the present invention.
- Fig. 2 demonstrates a general perspective view of a condenser unit in a drying machine according to the present invention.
- Fig. 3 demonstrates a cross-sectional view from a side of the condenser unit according to the present invention.
- Fig. 4 demonstrates a front view of the condenser unit according to the present invention.
- Fig. 5a and 5b respectively demonstrates locked and unlocked positions of the condenser unit according to the present invention.
- Fig. 6 demonstrates a perspective rear view of the locking arm according to the present invention.
- Fig. 7 demonstrates a cross-sectional view of the locking arm in locked position according to the present invention.
- Fig. 8 demonstrates a cross-sectional view of the lock member in locked position according to the present invention.
- Referring now to the figure outlined above, the present invention proposes a condenser clothes dryer condenser group locking mechanism as defined in Claim 1.
- The following numerals are assigned to different parts demonstrated in the drawings:
- (1) Drying machine
- (2) Condenser unit
- (3) Locking arm
- (4) Locking guide
- (5) Indication arrow
- (6) Locking/unlocking indication
- (7) Lock member
- (8) Pivot member
- (9) Lock member gap
- (10) Locking guide neck
- (11) Lock slot
- The present invention proposes a drying machine (1) having a condenser unit (2) slidably removable therefrom. As it is necessary to clean the condenser unit (2) periodically, users need to slide out the condenser unit (2) and wash off any accumulated lint.
- The drying machine (1) of the invention comprises a locking mechanism having at least one locking arm (3) for effecting secure locking of said condenser unit (2) in said drying machine (1). This locking mechanism lets users ascertain that reinstalling operation is accomplished. Further, the locking mechanism is easy to use and leaves no room for doubt in effecting secure locking.
- Said locking arm (3) according to the invention comprises a first part having a pivot member (8) rotatably secured to said drying machine (1) and a second part having a lock member (7) engaging with a lock slot (11) on said condenser unit (2). Therefore, said second part pivotally rotated around said first part ensures that said lock member (7) is engaged with said lock slot (11).
- Said condenser unit (2) comprises a locking guide (4) through which said second part of said locking arm (3) having a lock member (7) is displaceable to effect locking or unlocking of said condenser unit (2). In this respect, said lock member (7) is advanced in a predefined path in a guided manner. As this locking guide (4) is visible to users, this helps build a more self-explained mechanism.
- Further, said locking guide (4) comprises an indication arrow (5) at its each end for indicating a locking or an unlocking direction in said locking guide (4). While an end of said locking guide (4) is used for locking, the other end is for unlocking operation. Said indication arrow (5) encircles said lock slot (11). When said lock member (7) is advanced to said lock slot (11), it moves said condenser unit (2) into operative position. In unlocking position, however, said condenser unit (2) is released from the operative position. The internal locking mechanism in this regard can be realized in various ways, for instance any suitable spring mechanism can be employed. Said indication arrows (5) are sided by a visual indication in the form of a visual locking or unlocking indication (6).
- Said lock member (7) according to the present invention comprises a longitudinally extending gap (9) dividing said lock member (7) into two longitudinally extending parts. Said two longitudinally extending parts are in the form of two semi-circular parts.
- As said locking guide (4) opens into said locking slot (11) through a locking guide neck (10) being narrower compared to said locking guide (4), said gap (9) provides that said longitudinally extending semi-circular parts are squeezed so as to approach each other while passing through said locking guide neck (10). A snap-fit locking is obtained as said locking guide neck (10) is narrower than the transversal distance between the two most distant points on each semi-circular parts.
- In the present invention, users need to slide out the condenser unit (2), wash off any accumulated lint periodically and the condenser unit (2) securely reinstalled to the drying machine (1). A snap-fit locking is advantageous in that users are informed that the locking operation is accurately carried out.
