Description

    A VIDEO RECORDING DEVICE
  • The present invention relates to a video recording device.
  • In video recording devices, especially in digital televisions and set-top boxes with a single receiver, while a channel selected by the user is recorded in the memory, only the channels having the same frequency as the channel being recorded can be watched. While the user tries to find these channels, he/she may switch to channels at different frequencies and causes the recording to stop. Various methods have been developed in the state of the art embodiments for solving this problem. The most widely used method of these is to allow switching only between the channels having the same frequency as the channel being recorded during the recording. In these embodiments, in what order the channels are displayed is not known and the desired channel cannot be found quickly. This causes difficulty of utilization. Furthermore, in the state of the art, dual receiver video recording devices are used. In these devices, while one of the receivers is used for the recording process, the other receiver can be used for the watching process. Thus, while the recording process is performed, other channels can be watched without limitation. However, production cost increases due to the additional receiver used in these embodiments.
  • In the state of the art Chinese Patent Documents No. CN102223578 and CN201577137, video recording systems comprising two different receivers are described. In these embodiments, while one of the receivers is used for the video recording process, all channels can be watched without limitation by means of the other receiver.
  • The aim of the present invention is the realization of a video recording device comprising a single receiver and wherein switching between the channels having the same frequency as the channel being recorded is easily performed during the recording process.
  • In the video recording device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, from the moment a target channel is started to be recorded, the control unit enables the target channel and the other channels having the same frequency value as the target channel to be displayed in all the channel lists recorded in its memory so as to be easily discernible from the channels having a frequency value different from that of the target channel. Thus, the user can easily see the channels he/she can watch in the channel list and switching between all the channels is not required. In a version of this embodiment, the memory wherein the recording process is performed is a portable disk drive. In another version of this embodiment, the memory is situated inside the video recorder.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the user desires to change channel while the recording process continues, he/she can switch only between the channels having the same frequency value as the target channel. From the moment the recording process starts, the control unit temporarily removes the channels having a frequency value different from that of the target channel from the channel circulation list. Thus, the user is prevented from unintentionally stopping the recording by switching to a channel having a frequency different from that of the target channel.
  • In a version of this embodiment, while switching between the channels having the same frequency value as the target channel, a message is displayed indicating that other channels are not displayed due to the recording process. Thus, the user is prevented from searching other channels by forgetting the on-going recording process.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, it is possible to switch to the channels having a frequency value different from that of the target channel. However before switching, the user is reminded that recording will be stopped in case the user performs the switching process and the user is asked for approval. If the user approves the process, recording is stopped and the limitations in the channel circulation are eliminated.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the channel list is displayed during the recording process, the control unit provides an icon to be displayed next to the target channel indicating that the channel is being recorded. Thus, it is possible to reach the information about which channel is being recorded at any time.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the target channel and the channels having the same frequency value as the target channel are listed one after the other at the top of the channel list. Thus, the user does not need to look at the different parts of the list in order to find the channels he/she can watch and can see them collectively at the top of the channel list. This provides ease of utilization.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the channel list is opened while the recording process continues, the target channel and the channels having the same frequency value as the target channel are displayed with a color different from that of the other channels. Thus, the user is enabled to find the channels he/she can watch on the channel list more quickly while the recording process continues.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the channel list is opened while the recording process continues, the target channel and the channels having the same frequency value as the target channel are displayed with a font and/or size different from that of the other channels. In this embodiment, the channels that can be watched while the recording process continues are displayed bolder, larger, underlined or in italics with respect to other channels.
  • In different embodiments of the present invention, the video recording device is a digital television or a set-top box (STB).
  • By means of the present invention, while a channel is recorded in the memory of the video recording device, the switching process between the channel being recorded and the other channels having the same frequency is enabled to be performed easily. Moreover, the risk of the recording process being unintentionally stopped is minimized.
  • The video recording device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figure, where:
  • Figure 1 – is the schematic view of a video recording device.
  • Figure 2 – is the view of the channel list related to an embodiment of the present invention.
  • Figure 3 – is the view of the channel list related to another embodiment of the present invention.
  • The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
    1. Video recording device
    2. Receiver
    3. Transmitter
    4. Memory
    5. Control unit
  • The video recording device (1) comprises a broadcast receiver (2) that receives digital broadcast signals and channel information, a transmitter (3) enabling a channel list (L), in which the channels recorded in the memory thereof are listed, to be displayed to the user by means of a display (D), a memory (4), a control unit (5) that provides the recording of a target channel (P1) determined by the user from the broadcast package and the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) in the memory (4) and that provides switching between the target channel (P1) and the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) while the recording process continues. When the user sends a command for the recording of the target channel (P1), the target channel (P1) and the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) are started to be recorded in the memory (4). When the user desires to switch between the target channel (P1) and the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) during the recording process, the control unit (5) plays the images in the memory (4) simultaneously with the broadcast signal and thus provides the switching process to be performed (Figure 1).
  • In the video recording device (1) of the present invention, when the recording process starts, the control unit (5) enables the target channel (P1) and the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) to be displayed in the channel list (L) so as to be visually discernible from the channels (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1). As the recording process starts the control unit (5) determines the frequency of the target channel (P1) and detects the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1). Afterwards, the control unit (5) enables the target channel (P1) and the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) to be displayed in all the channel lists (L) in the memory thereof so as to be visually discernible. By means of this feature, the user sees in advance which channels he/she can watch during recording and switches between these channels. Hence, the recording process is prevented from being stopped by switching to the channels (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1) (Figure 2, Figure 3).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when channel is desired to be changed while the recording process continues, the control unit (5) allows switching only between the target channel (P1) and the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1). For the user to switch to the channels (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1) while the recording process continues, he/she first has to stop the recording process. Thus, the risk of the recording process being stopped by switching to the channels (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1) is eliminated.
  • In a version of this embodiment, when switching is performed between the target channel (P1) and the channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) while the recording process continues, the control unit (5) provides the displaying of a message indicating that switching to the other channels is not possible due to the recording process. Hence, the user is prevented from thinking that there is a problem related to the channels (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1) by forgetting the on-going recording process.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, when switching is desired to be performed from the target channel (P1) and the channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) to a channel (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1) while the recording process continues, the control unit (5) provides the displaying of a message indicating that recording process will be stopped if the switching process is continued. Thus, the user is prevented from unintentionally stopping the recording process.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (5) provides the displaying of a message indicating that the channel is being recorded in the vicinity of the target channel (P1) when the channel list (L) is displayed while the recording process continues. Hence, when the channel list (L) is displayed, it is possible to clearly understand which channel is being recorded. Thus, the user is prevented from confusing the channel being recorded (Figure 2, Figure 3).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the channel list (L) is displayed while the recording process continues, the control unit (5) enables the target channel (P1) and the channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) to be displayed at the top of the channel list (L) one after the other such that no other channel is placed therebetween. Thus the user easily finds the target channel (P1) and the channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) at the top of the channel list (L). And, this provides ease of utilization (Figure 3).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the channel list (L) is displayed while the recording process continues, the control unit (5) enables the target channel (P1) and the channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) to be displayed in the channel list (L) with a color different from that of the channels (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1). Thus, the target channel (P1) and the other channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) can be easily discerned from the channels (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the channel list (L) is displayed while the recording process continues, the control unit (5) enables the target channel (P1) and the channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) to be displayed in the channel list (L) with a font and/or size different from that of the channels (S1, S2, S2, …) having a frequency value different from that of the target channel (P1). Hence, even the video recording device (1) does not have a colored on-screen menu system, the target channel (P1) and the channels (P2, P3, P4, …) having the same frequency value as the target channel (P1) can be easily discerned (Figure 2, Figure 3).
  • In different embodiments of the present invention, the video recording device (1) is a digital television or a set-top box (STB).
  • By means of the present invention, the channel change process is provided to be easily performed while the recording process is performed. Moreover, the risk of the recording process being unintentionally stopped is eliminated.
