Description

DESCRIPTION
WASHING MACHINE HAVING A FLAP AT THE TUB DRAIN HOSE The present invention relates to a washing machine comprising a tub in which washing takes place, a tub drain outlet draining water out of the tub after washing, a tub drain hose having an inner wall in connection with the tub drain outlet, and a circular flap disposed in the tub drain hose. Washing machines are equipped with a tub drain outlet for draining away laundry water from the tub following a washing cycle, as well as a tub drain hose in connection with the tub drain outlet and a drain pump. A clearance in the tub drain outlet causes the detergent taken from the detergent box prior to washing to leave the tub together with some amount of water, and to flow into the tub drain hose. This, in turn, diminishes the washing performance of the respective washing machine.
GB21741 10 describes a valve device disposed in a tube discharge hose of a washing machine. The valve device is made from a resilient clack valve, which is held in a closed state by means of the hydrostatic water pressure in the discharge hose when a drain pump disposed therein is not in operation.
DE102010042038 describes a floating body disposed in a connection part of a water drain system to a tub in a washing machine. The washing machine comprises a water tub having a drain opening which is closed by the floating body. A liquid outlet system comprises an outlet line and a drain hose, wherein the liquid outlet system is connected to the water tub. A chamber has a freely floating lifting body as a closing part. Additionally, an annular elastic sealing lip is arranged on an inner wall of the chamber of the drain hose. The object of the present invention is to provide a washing machine equipped with a flap at a tub outlet thereof preventing detergent from flowing out of the tub of the machine. Accordingly, the present invention provides a washing machine comprising a tub in which washing takes place, a tub drain outlet draining water out of the tub after washing, a tub drain hose with an inner wall in connection with the tub drain outlet, and a circular flap disposed in the tub drain hose. Here, the flap comprises at least one first wing and at least one second wing disposed at an obtuse angle to each other, and the flap is connected to the tub drain hose so that the flap is partially movable about an assembly axis defined by a folding line joining together the first wing and the second wing. Additionally, a clearance is provided between the first wing and the inner wall to allow water to flow when the water from the tub exerts pressure to the flap. The buoyancy of water in the tub drain hose, in turn, brings back the flap to equilibrium.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the flap comprises two tabs disposed at the two opposite ends of the folding line so as to be mounted to the inner wall. Thus, the flap is mounted to the inner wall through the tabs only such that the body of the flap can move freely.
According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the tub drain hose comprises two vertical grooves in the inner wall for receiving the tabs. In this way, the flap is mounted to the inner wall.
According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the tub drain hose comprises a peripheral groove disposed along the inner wall at the continuation of the vertical grooves. Thus, the flap is kept from dislocating from the vertical grooves under the influence of pressure. According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the flap comprises a sealing member disposed along the wall thereof. Thus, detergent is blocked from flowing between the flap and the inner wall. According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the angle between the wings is between 120 and 170 degrees, preferably 150 degrees. Thus, any clearance between the flap and the inner wall is prevented when the flap is in equilibrium. According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the sealing member is a flexible o-ring made of a rubber material in a conical form. Thus, no clearance takes place between the sealing member and the inner wall while the second wing raises up. According to another preferred embodiment of the present invention, a fixation member is provided for covering the vertical grooves. Thus, the flap is kept from dislocating from the vertical grooves.
Figure 1 is a representative view of a washing machine comprising a flap according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a representative view of the flap according to the present invention in the washing machine. Figure 3a is a representative top view of the flap according to the present invention.
Figure 3b is a representative side view of the flap according to the present invention.
Figure 3c is a cross-sectional view of a sealing member of the flap according to the present invention. Figure 4 is a representative view of the placement of the flap according to the present invention in a tub drain hose thereof.
In the following detailed description, a washing machine according to the present invention comprising a flap at a tub drain hose thereof shall be described illustratively by making reference to annexed figures, only for clarification, without imposing any restrictions thereon.
According to figures 1 and 2, a washing machine comprises a tub (20) in which a drum is disposed (10) in which washing takes place, a tub drain outlet (21 ) draining water out of the tub (20) after washing, a tub drain hose (30) in connection with the tub drain outlet (21 ), as well as a drain pump (40) connected to the tub drain hose (30).
According to figures 3a and 3b, a flap (50) made of plastic or a rubber material to be placed into the tub drain hose (30) comprises a body (51 ) comprising a semicircular first wing (51 1 ) and a semicircular second wing (512), which are disposed at an obtuse angle (a) between 120 and 170 degrees with respect to each other. According to a preferred embodiment, the angle corresponds to 150 degrees. Referring to figure 3a, the first wing (51 1 ) and the second wing (512) are monolithic with the straight edges of the semicircles facing each other, wherein the flap (50) has a folding line (514) at which the straight edges come into contact, thereby defining an assembly axis (a). One tab (52) projecting outwards is provided on each of the opposite ends of the folding line (514). Additionally, a sealing member (53) is provided on a wall (513) of the body (51 ) which surrounds the wall (513) completely, as illustrated in figures 3a and 3c. According to the cross-section AA' in figure 3c, the sealing member (53) is in the form of a flexible o-ring made of a rubber material in a conical form. In figure 4, the tub drain hose (30) comprises a hose inlet (31 ) by which the hose is connected to the tube drain (21 ), as well as an inner wall (32) having an annular groove therein. Two opposite vertical grooves (321 ) are made in the inner wall (32) within the periphery of the hose inlet (31 ), said grooves being complementary in form to the tabs (52) disposed on the flap (50). At the termination of the vertical groove (321 ), in turn, is provided an annular groove (322) extending throughout the inner wall (32). The annular groove (322) is structured so that the tabs (52) on the flap (50) can move horizontally. In order to mount the flap (50), the tabs (52) of the flap are inserted into the vertical grooves (321 ) disposed in the inner wall (32) of the tub drain hose (30), after which the tabs (52) can be moved horizontally within the annular groove (322). Thus, the flap (50) can be turned within the tub drain hose (30). When the flap (50) is not exposed to water pressure, the sealing member (53) of the flap comes in contact with the inner wall (32) of the tub drain hose (30) to provide a sealing contact. In order to keep the flap (50) within the vertical grooves (321 ), the vertical grooves (321 ) are optionally locked by means of a fixation element (not illustrated in the figures). During a wash cycle, the tub (20) is fed with water and detergent through the detergent drawer. As water starts filling the tub (20), it exerts force to the first wing (51 1 ) of the flap, so that some amount of water, which would not substantially reduce the amount of water required for the wash cycle, is guided below the flap (50) into the tub drain hose (30). Meanwhile, the second wing (512) of the flap (50) raises up by virtue of the monolithic structure of the wings (51 1 , 512) of the flap (50); but since this movement is within the limit of elasticity of the sealing member (53), no clearance is formed between the inner wall (32) of the tub drain hose (30) and the sealing member (53) even if the second wing (512) moves. In this way, no leakage occurs between the second wing (512) and the inner wall (32). When a wash cycle is started, some amount of water will be present in the tub drain hose (30). Thereafter, water entering into the tub drain hose (30) will combine with the water already present there (30), such that the buoyancy of water will lift up the first wing (51 1 ), thereby resulting in an equilibrium of the flap (50). Thus, no clearance is left between the flap (50) and the inner wall (32) of the tub drain hose (30), and therefore detergent flow from the tub (20) into the tub drain hose (30) is prevented.
According to an alternative embodiment, the flap (50) can be mounted to the tub drain outlet (21 ) in a similar way as it is mounted to the tub drain hose (30). However, the mounting of the flap to the tub drain hose (30) is simpler as compared to the tub drain outlet (21 ). After the flap is mounted to the tub drain hose (30), it is secured to the tub drain outlet (21 ) by means of fixation means.
The protection scope of the present invention is set forth in the accompanying claims and is not to be restricted to the illustrative disclosures given above, under the detailed description. It is obvious that a person skilled in the art can produce similar embodiments under the light of the foregoing disclosures, without departing from the main principles of the present invention.
