Description

DEVICE FOR DETECTING THE ANGULAR POSITION OF A SHAFT OF A WINDSCREEN WIPER MOTOR USING A MAGNETORESITIVE SENSOR
Prior Art
The invention relates to a device for detecting the angular position of a shaft of a windscreen wiper motor according to the preamble of claim 1 . The invention further relates to a windscreen wiper motor that uses a device in accordance with the invention.
A device according to the preamble of claim 1 is known in the field and is used for the purpose of detecting the precise position of a drive shaft of a windscreen wiper motor, so that said windscreen wiper motor can be controlled by means of a control device of the windscreen wiper motor in such a manner that the wiper blades of a windscreen wiper device that are arranged operatively connected to the windscreen wiper motor can be stopped, for example, at a particular point in time. The devices known from the prior art use for this purpose Hall sensors that detect the magnetic field of a magnet element that is arranged on the shaft of the electromotor. The Hall sensors are arranged in different radial positions on the shaft of the electromotor, so that it is possible to ascertain a particular angular position of the shaft from the combination of the signals that have been detected by the Hall sensors. The Hall sensors are embodied in each case as separate components and are connected by way of corresponding electrical connecting lines to a control device and/or an evaluation circuit that is arranged on a printed circuit board that is arranged inside the windscreen wiper motor and is used to control the windscreen wiper motor. In addition, it is known from the subsequently published DE 10 2012 100 829 A1 of the applicant to arrange magnetic field sensors directly on the printed circuit board, which magnetic field sensors are likewise used to control the windscreen wiper motor. The magnetic field sensors are embodied as Hall sensors in the form of SMD components.
Disclosure of the Invention
Based on the illustrated prior art, the object of the invention is to further develop a device for detecting the angular position of a shaft of a windscreen wiper motor according to the preamble of claim 1 in such a manner that the magnetic field sensors used can be of a simplified construction and/or require less installation space. This object is achieved in accordance with the invention in the case of a device having the features of claim 1 by virtue of the fact that the magnetic field sensor arrangement comprises a single magnetic field sensor in the form of a magnetoresistance sensor. Consequently, the plurality of Hall sensors and/or SMD components known from the prior art in the case of windscreen wiper motors are replaced by a single magnetic field sensor that, as an angle sensor using the absolute measuring method, detects the angular position of the shaft of the windscreen wiper motor. Magnetoresistance sensors of this type are known, for example, in the so-called AMR technology and GMR technology of the prior art. The term 'AMR technology' is understood to mean a technology that takes advantage of the anisotropic magnetoresistance effect in order to detect and evaluate changes in the magnetic field. The GMR effect is the so-called giant magnetoresistance effect. Magnetoresistance sensors of this type have the advantage that they render it possible to achieve a relatively high level of accuracy and/or high resolution, they are extremely robust and/or insensitive to high or low temperatures, contamination, radiation, mechanical loading as a result of impacts or vibrations and they are extremely sensitive.
Advantageous embodiments of the device in accordance with the invention for detecting the angular position of a shaft of a windscreen wiper motor are disclosed in the subordinate claims. All combinations of at least two of the features disclosed in the claims, the description and/or the figures are covered by the scope of the invention. It is particularly preferred that the magnetic field sensor is arranged on a printed circuit board that is simultaneously used to receive the electric and/or electronic components in order to control the windscreen wiper motor. As a consequence, it is not necessary to provide a separate printed circuit board and/or a separate mounting element for the magnetic field sensor that must then be connected to the printed circuit board by way of suitable connecting lines, said printed circuit board being used to control the windscreen wiper motor. In addition to the production costs which are consequently reduced, it is also possible as a result of the additional mounting element being omitted to construct the windscreen wiper motor in a particularly compact manner in the relevant region.
As the (armature) shaft of the windscreen wiper motor is usually mounted in the region of its two end faces in the bearing elements, any arrangement of the magnet element on an end face of the (armature) shaft of the windscreen wiper motor would increase the structural size of the windscreen wiper motor in the axial extension. It is therefore preferred that the magnet element encompasses the (armature) shaft on its periphery.
It is more particularly preferred that the magnet element is arranged in the region of a gear housing of the windscreen wiper motor. This is achieved based on the background that the printed circuit board for controlling the windscreen wiper motor is likewise arranged in the gear housing, as at this site, in comparison to the motor housing, as a result of the gear wheel that is usually provided and the geometric proportions, there is more installation space for accommodating a printed circuit board than in the region of the motor housing.
It is quite particularly preferred that in the case of an arrangement in the gear housing the at least one magnet element is arranged between a motor housing region and a gear wheel. The most installation space for accommodating additional elements and/or for the printed circuit board is usually available in this region. It is further preferred to use the device in accordance with the invention in the case of a brushless windscreen wiper motor. It is necessary in order to correctly control the individual windings in the case of a brushless windscreen wiper motor of this type to energize and/or control said windings in dependence upon the angular position of the armature shaft. Consequently, the device is not only used to stop and/or start the windscreen wiper motor in a particular angular position in order to move back and forth the windscreen wiper that is operatively connected to the windscreen wiper motor but said device is also necessary in order to be able to actually operate the windscreen wiper motor.
It is proposed in the structurally preferred arrangement of the magnetic field sensor that said magnetic field sensor is arranged on the face of the printed circuit board that faces the shaft, wherein the plane of the printed circuit board extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. As a consequence, a particularly compact construction of the device is achieved and the process of detecting the magnetic field of the magnet element is simplified, which magnetic field moves past the magnetic field sensor.
The invention also comprises a windscreen wiper motor having a device in accordance with the invention. A windscreen wiper motor of this type renders it possible to provide a particularly compact device for detecting the angular position of the shaft by means of using only a single magnetic field sensor in the form of a magnetoresistance sensor. Further advantages, features and details of the invention are evident from the description hereinunder of preferred exemplary embodiments and with reference to the drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a simplified illustration of a windscreen wiper motor that uses a device in accordance with the invention for detecting the angular position of its armature shaft and Fig. 2 shows an enlarged view of a section of the windscreen wiper motor as shown in Fig. 1 in the region of the device in accordance with the invention. Like components and/or components that function in a like manner are provided in the figures with like reference numerals.
Fig. 1 illustrates a greatly simplified view of a windscreen wiper motor 10 as a component of a windscreen wiper device in a motor vehicle. The windscreen wiper motor 10 comprises a housing 1 1 that is subdivided into a motor region 12 and a gear region 13. The motor region 12 and the gear region 13 can be achieved by means of separate housing components, which are, for example, screwed together, or else by means of a common housing part or else in a shell construction. A shaft 15 that is a component of a brushless drive motor is arranged in the housing 1 1 . The shaft 15 is consequently embodied as a rotor shaft in the case of an inner rotor construction and magnets that cooperate with windings that are arranged on the inner periphery of the motor region 12 (which is usually embodied with a circular cross-section) are arranged on the periphery of the rotor shaft. The shaft 15 is, for example, rotatably mounted in three bearing devices 16 to 1 8 in the housing 1 1 . A toothing arrangement (not illustrated) that is embodied on the shaft 15 meshes with a corresponding counter toothing on a gear wheel 20. The gear wheel 20 is used to increase the torque and said gear wheel cooperates, for example, with a likewise not illustrated, lever that is arranged outside the housing 1 1 , which lever is mechanically coupled in particular to a wiper connecting rod.
A device 100 in accordance with the invention for detecting the angular position of the shaft 15 is arranged inside the gear region 13 in the region between the gear wheel 20 and the end face 21 of the motor region 12. The device 100 comprises a magnet arrangement 22 that uses at least one magnet element 23 having a north pole and a south pole, wherein the magnet arrangement 22 surrounds the shaft 15 in a radial manner at the periphery of said shaft and/or encloses said shaft in a radial manner. The magnet arrangement 22 cooperates with a magnetic field sensor in the form of a magnetoresistance sensor 25. As is particularly evident from Fig. 2, the magnetoresistance sensor 25 is embodied in the form of an IC and/or ASIC and is arranged on a printed circuit board 28 on the face of the printed circuit board 28 that faces the magnet arrangement 22. It is essential that the printed circuit board 28 simultaneously supports components 29 that are used to control the windscreen wiper motor 10. The printed circuit board 28 is connected by way of an electrical connection 31 (Fig. 1 ) to a plug-in connection region 32 of the housing 1 1 , in particular of the gear region 13, via which the windscreen wiper motor 10 is supplied with voltage by way of the cable harness of the motor vehicle. The magnetoresistance sensor 25 is preferably embodied in the form of a GMR or AMR sensor and is a component of the IC and/or ASIC. However, it can also be embodied as a surface mounted device and can comprise an external evaluating circuit. The windscreen wiper motor 1 0 described so far and/or its device 1 00 for detecting the angular position of the shaft 15 can be altered and/or modified in numerous ways without departing from the inventive idea. Thus, the magnet arrangement 22 can also comprise a plurality of magnet elements 23. In addition, the magnetoresistance sensor 25 can also be arranged on the face of the printed circuit board 28 remote from the magnet arrangement 22.
