Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to an electronic device having an on screen display (OSD).
- In the state of the art, on-screen displays are provided in devices such as television, photographic camera, video camera, etc that are used in adjusting the parameters that can be determined according to the preference of the user. Displays are displayed over the image on the screen according to the command the user gives when he/she desires to make the said adjustment and disappear by a command after the adjustment is completed.
- As the adjustment is made in the said menus, generally the value last reached is displayed and the user cannot have a clear understanding about the adjustment made.
- In the Japanese Patent Application No. JP9127902, an embodiment is explained wherein the data value changed during adjustment is displayed with respect to factory preset data and the user is provided to see the increase/decrease in amount of the said value with respect to factory preset data.
- The aim of the present invention is the realization of an electronic device having a user-friendly on-screen display.
- The electronic device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a control unit that, as an adjustment is made in a parameter, provides the last applied value of the parameter and the amount of change made in the parameter to be displayed in different colors, shapes or designs, in other words, with a different appearance on the on-screen display. Thus, the user is provided to easily detect at which value s/he has started make the change and how much change is made.
- When the user opens the respective on-screen display to make change in a parameter, the value of the parameter currently used is displayed on the display. As the user changes the value of the parameter, the amount of change is displayed on the on-screen display in a different shape than the shape of the parameter value used before the adjustment is made.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit records the currently used values relating to parameters that can be adjusted by means of on-screen displays to the storage means and when a change is made in any parameter, updates the data relating to the respective parameter in the storage means. Thus, when an on-screen display is launched for adjusting a parameter, the value of the said parameter currently applied can be displayed easily in the on-screen display by reading from the storage means.
- It is possible to make changes in parameters in increasing or decreasing direction within certain limits by using the on-screen displays. In an embodiment of the present invention, the change in increasing direction and the change in decreasing direction are displayed differently from each other. Thus, in addition to allowing the user to discern the initial value from the amount of change, whether the change is in increasing direction or decreasing direction is also provided to be discerned.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit provides the last applied value and the amount of change to be displayed visually different by displaying them in different colors. For example, while the last applied value is displayed in gray color, the change in increasing direction in green color and the change in decreasing direction is shown in red color.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the values of the adjusted parameter is displayed in bar shape in the on-screen display template recorded in the storage means for use in adjusting the parameters.
- In this embodiment, a hollow frame is provided that determines the probable lower and upper limits of the parameter in the on-screen display template. The last applied value is shown by filling in the section of the frame corresponding to the last applied value of the parameter with respect to the lower and upper values. When the user makes changes in parameter settings in increasing direction, the amount of change in increasing direction is shown in a different display (color, design, shape etc) by again filling in the section of the frame corresponding to the amount of change with respect to the lower and upper limit value. In this situation, the last applied value and the amount of change in increasing direction together fill in the frame to the extent in showing the new adjusted value. On the other hand, when the user makes changes in parameter settings in decreasing direction, the section corresponding to the amount of change in decreasing direction of the last applied value is shown by filling in with a different display (color, design, shape etc). In this situation, the currently adjusted value and the amount of change in decreasing direction together fill in the frame to the extent of showing the last applied value.
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the values of the adjusted parameter are displayed by a symbol corresponding to each unit in the on-screen display template recorded in the storage means for use in adjusting the parameters. In this embodiment, while the last applied value of the parameter is displayed by a first symbol (for example circle) in a number corresponding to this value, the amount of increase by a second symbol (for example forward arrow) in a number corresponding to the amount of increase, the value corresponding to the decrease amount is again displayed by a third symbol (for example backward arrow) corresponding to this value.
- In different embodiments of the present invention, the on-screen display is used in controlling the sound, display etc settings of the electronic device.
- In different embodiment of the present invention, the electronic device can be a television, a video camera or a photographic camera.
- The electronic device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
- Figure 1 – is the schematic view of an electronic device.
- Figure 2 – is the view of the on-screen display displaying the last applied value in an embodiment of the present invention.
- Figure 3 – is the view of the on-screen display displaying the last applied value and the amount of changes in increasing direction in another embodiment of the present invention.
- Figure 4 – is the view of the on-screen display displaying the last applied value and the amount of changes in decreasing direction in another embodiment of the present invention.
- Figure 5 – is the view of the on-screen display displaying the last applied value in another embodiment of the present invention.
- Figure 6 – is the view of the on-screen display displaying the last applied value and the amount of changes in another embodiment of the present invention.
- The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
- Electronic device
- Storage means
- Control unit
- The electronic device (1) of the present invention comprises at least one storage means (2) wherein at least one on-screen display template is recorded that is used in adjusting the parameters (P1, P2, P3, P4, …) which can be determined according to user preference and a control unit (3) that provides the amount of change (P1 ) with respect to the last applied value (P1U) of the respective parameter (P1) to be displayed in the on-screen display template disposed in the storage means (2) in visually discernible manner and in different shape on the screen while making adjustment in at least one parameter (P1) by using at least one on-screen display (Figure 1).
- When the user launches an on-screen display for adjusting a parameter (P1), the last applied value (P1U) of the respective parameter (P1) is displayed in the on-screen display. When the user increases the respective parameter (P1), the amount of increase (P1 ) is displayed in the on-screen display in different shape that is visually discernible with respect to the last applied value (P1U). Thus, the user can easily understand how much the respective parameter (P1) is increased with respect to the last applied value (P1U). Similarly, when the user decreases the respective parameter (P1), the amount of decrease (P1 ) is shown in the on-screen display in different shape that is visually discernible with respect to the last applied value (P1U). Thus, the user can easily understand how much the respective parameter (P1) is decreased with respect to the last applied value (P1U).
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (3) records to the storage means (2) the last applied values (PU1, PU2, PU3, PU4, …) of the parameters (P1, P2, P3, P4, …) adjusted by using the on-screen display. Thus, when the user opens an on-screen display for adjusting a parameter (P1), the last applied value (P1U) of the respective parameter (P1) can be displayed in the on-screen display by reading from the storage means (2).
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (3) provides the amount of change (P1 +) in the increasing direction of the parameter (P1) to be adjusted to be displayed in different shape that is visually discernible with respect to the last applied value (P1U) and with respect to the amount of change in decreasing direction (P1 -) of the parameter (P1) to be adjusted.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (3) provides the amount of change (P1 ) in the parameter (P1) to be adjusted to be displayed in a different color than that of the last applied value (P1U). In other words, while the last applied value (P1U) of the parameter (P1) being adjusted is displayed in a first color (C1) in the on-screen display, the amount of change (P1 ) is displayed in another color (C2, C3, …). Thus, the user is provided to detect the amount of change (P1 ) easily.
- In a version of this embodiment, the control unit (3) displays the last applied value (P1U) with gray color, the amount of change in increasing direction (P1 +) with green color and the amount of change in decreasing direction (P1 -) with red color. Thus, the user can conveniently detect the amount and type of change by means of easily correlating the green and red colors with the concepts of increase and decrease.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the on-screen display template recorded in the storage means (2) is of the type that displays the parameters (P1, P2, P3, P4, …) adjusted by using the on-screen display in bar shape. In this embodiment, the on-screen display template recorded in the storage means (2) has a frame that determines the lowest and highest values of the adjusted parameter (P1). The control unit (3) displays the last applied value (P1U) of the parameter (P1) by filling in the section of the frame corresponding to this value (P1U) (Figure 2).
- In this embodiment, when the user increases the parameter (P1), the control unit (3) fills in the amount of change in increasing direction (P1 +), in the section of the frame corresponding to this value (P1 +) so as to be visually discernible from the section corresponding to the last applied value (P1U) of the parameter (P1). In this situation, the newly adjusted value (P1N) of the parameter (P1) is displayed in the on-screen display as the total of the last applied value (P1U) of the parameter (P1) and the amount of change in increasing direction (P1 +). Similarly, when the user decreases the parameter (P1), the control unit (3) changes the section corresponding to the decrease amount (P1 -) in the section of the frame filled to display the last applied value (P1U) of the parameter (P1) to be visually discernible. In this situation, the last applied value (P1U) of the parameter (P1) is displayed on the on-screen display as the total of the recently adjusted value (P1N) of the parameter (P1) and the amount of change in decreasing direction (P1 -).
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the on-screen display template recorded in the storage means (2) is of the type displaying the parameters (P1, P2, P3, P4, …) adjusted by using on-screen display with a symbol corresponding to each unit. In this embodiment, while the last applied value (P1U) of the parameter (P1) is displayed by the first symbol in a number corresponding to this value, the amount of change (P1 ) is shown by another symbol in a number corresponding to this value (Figure 3 and Figure 4).
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the on-screen display is a settings menu used for adjusting the audio, video, etc. settings of the electronic device (1).
