Description

[Title established by the ISA under Rule 37.2] DOSING ACTUATOR FOR AN AEROSOL CONTAINER WITH INTERCHANGEABLE TUBES Technical Field
  • Present invention relates to devices which are known as dosing guns and are used in bottles to dispense pressurised products, for example assembly foam, glue, sealants etc.
  • Background Art
  • Nowadays two types of devices are usually used to dispense foam – dosing guns and hand applicators. The first type, dosing guns, is used mostly in construction, because when there is no more foam in the bottle, the empty bottle is replaced with a full one and the work continues. The second type, hand applicators, is mainly used in works around the house where polyurethane foam is needed in small amounts. Generally, the mechanical and physical properties of the foams used in dosing guns and in hand applicators differ. Usually, the valves of the foam bottle which are meant for these devices differ from each other as well, whereby the hand applicator cannot be used with the polyurethane foam bottle which is meant for a dosing gun and vice versa.
  • A dosing gun is known from US 5271537 B JOHNSON CHARLES W 19931221 of 21 December 1993 which needs a bottle with a fastener. The working principle of the dosing device is that the nipple of the bottle is always in an open position when installing the bottle and the discharge of the foam is adjusted with a bar that is attached to the release mechanism. The disadvantages of this dosing device are the complexity of the design and resulting from that a high production price, also regarding the fact that the dosing device is always filled with foam, the need to clean it periodically which is labour-intensive and requires the usage of special cleaning products. A disadvantage can also be the fact that the dosing device cannot be used with bottles which do not have fasteners.
  • Disclosure of Invention
  • The aim of this invention is to create a simple, user friendly, universal and light tool which does not require special maintenance, has a minimum number of details and is made of plastic that is easily processed; a tool that can be used with polyurethane foam in two types of bottles with and without a fastener.
  • An additional aim is the use of changeable tubes in the dosing device. A tube is replaced when the foam has hardened and the further use of the tube is impossible.
  • Another aim is to reduce the production price of the dosing device. Taking this into account, the dosing device has been constructed in such a way that all the details have been made without assembly operations by using a method of injection moulding of plastic and the details do not require further processing.
  • The working principle of this invention is that the foam bottle is installed on the dosing device by way of a threaded connection. In order to dispense the foam, a trigger must be pulled, whereby the inner cavity of the nozzle pressurises the nipple of the bottle. The nipple opens. The foam goes to the tube and comes out in the designed direction. The dosing of foam is adjusted by the pulling of trigger. If the pressure to the trigger stops, the nipple of the bottle closes and the trigger moves back to the initial position.
  • The adapter is meant for installing a bottle without a fastener on to the housing of the dosing device.
  • A control nozzle is used to fix the canal of the tube in such a way that it could turn around its axis.
  • It is possible to put the adapter, the stopper, the control nozzle and a kit of expendable gloves to the cavity of the handle.

  • Fig. 17 shows the fastening of the latch and the handle; also the possibility to place the fixation ring at an angle regarding the axis of the tube.
  • Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
  • Fig. 1 shows the assembly scheme of the dosing device which comprises a housing 2, changeable tubes 3, 4, an adapter 5, a control nozzle 7, a cover 6, a bottle 12 with a fastener and a bottle 11 without a fastener.
  • The changeable tube 3, 4 enters the guide canal 15. Then, by sliding along the bottom part of the nozzle 21, 22 along the guide rail 18, by orienting by the installation bar 36, 37 which is in the guide groove 38, the changeable tube is fixated in the canal 15 by way of the fastener 39 which goes into the recess 40, 41 Fig. 1, 4, 6, 12. The disassembly of the tube from the housing is carried out in a reversed order. The bottle 12 is installed on the dosing device by way of a threaded connection. The bottle 11 is fixed to the dosing device by way of an adapter 5. Thereat, the changeable tube 3 is used with the bottle 11 and the changeable tube 4 with the bottle 12 Fig. 1, 10, 11. Upon installing the bottle on to the housing, the nipple 28, 29 of the bottle enters the connection nozzle 21, 22 which has been depicted in Fig. 4, 5, 6, 7.
  • The air-tightness of the connection is ensured by fitting the nipple 28, 29 tightly into the connection aperture 26, 27. In order to ensure additional air-tightness, a casing ring 32, 33, which is fitted into the groove 30, 31, could be placed into the connection aperture 26, 27 or to the surface of the input housing 23, 24 Fig. 4, 5, 6, 7.
  • In order to dispense the foam, the trigger 14 must be pulled, whereby the inner cavity 23, 24 of the nozzle pressurises the nipple 28, 29 of the bottle and opens it. The foam enters the tube 19, 20 Fig. 10, 11 and comes out in the designed direction. The dosing of foam is adjusted by the pulling of the trigger 14 Fig 10. If the pressure to the trigger 14 stops, the nipple 28, 29 of the bottle closes and the trigger 14 moves back to the initial position 17 Fig 10.
  • Adapter 5 Fig. 1, 8 is meant for installing the bottle 11 without the fastener 42 on to the housing of the dosing device. To this end, it is fixed to the bottle 11 by way of holders 45 which are fixed to the fasteners 44. Then, by using stabilisers 46, the adapter is screwed into the housing 2 by way of a ring with an external thread 43. The side edges 47 are used as supports when screwing the bottle with the adapter into the housing, whereas the external surface 48 of the connection facets bases on the edge of the ring 10 and pushes the bottle 11 with holders 45 Fig. 1, 8, 10. The adapter 5 is disassembled from the bottle 11 by pushing the inner surface 48 of the connection facets Fig. 8.
  • The control nozzle 7 Fig. 1
  • , 9 allows to change and set the direction of the canal. To this end the tube slides though the narrow groove 50 and goes into the wide groove 51. In order to set the direction of the tube, the nozzle is turned by way of beads 53. The nozzle is attached to the housing 2 by way of a circular fixation element 52.
  • The cavity 9 of the dosing device Fig 12 is used to keep the adapter, the control nozzle and a kit of expendable safety gloves. The cavity is closed with the cover 54.
  • The cover 6 Fig. 1, 11, 13, 14 closes the cavity of the tube when the dosing device is not temporarily being used. This also prevents the foam from expanding and drying in the tube. The cover comprises an entry cone 57, entry aperture 58 and additional container 59. The additional container 59 is for the purpose for the foam to fill the cavity of the tube when expanding.
  • When the dosing device is not in use for a longer period, the foam in the tube can dry; as a result the tube becomes unusable and has to be replaced with a new tube. The changeable tube 4 is equipped with a removable fastener 35 which allows to fix the tube to the apertures of the fastener 42 of the bottle 12 Fig. 1.
  • The changeable tube 3 is equipped with a release aperture 25, the nipple 28 of the bottle belongs thereto Fig 10. The changeable tube 4 is equipped with a gripping element 34, which allows a comfortable hold of the tube when it is being assembled on to the dosing device of the housing or when it is being disassembled. Fig 6, 7.
  • The rigidity adjustment latch 13 Fig. 1, 2, 3, 15, 16 provides the dosing system with extra resilience. The latch 13 is connected either with the handle 8 and the fixation ring 10, only with the fixation ring 10 Fig. 15, 16 or only with the handle 8.
  • Figures 15, 16 depict the possibility to install the tube from the side. To this end, there is a groove 16 in the guide canal 15. The tube 3, 4 enters by way of the groove 16 to the guide canal 15 and is fixed there by way of a fixation element 39.
  • The nozzle 21, 22 of the changeable tube 3, 4 Fig. 5, 7 is equipped with a compensation element 55, 56 which limits the moving of the nipple 28, 29. The course of the nipple 28, 29 is limited by changing the length of the compensation element 55, 56.
  • Fig. 17 shows the fastening of the bottom part of the latch 13 to the handle 8. It also shows the possibility to place the fixation ring 10 to the nozzle 21, 22 of the tube at an angle.
