Description

The invention relates to a composite element for a hook-and-loop fastener, in particular for a diaper closure, comprising a backing and a textile material laminated to the backing by adhesive, which comprises a base structure formed from threads or fibers and threads incorporated into the base structure by knitting into the base structure formed by knitting threads for connection with Velcro hook provided loops and wherein at least a portion of the threads or fibers of the basic structure is formed of polyamide.

Velcro closures consist according to their usual design of a loop part and a hook part. Corresponding hook-and-loop fasteners are also referred to as hook-and-loop systems. Velcro fasteners are used for both multiple use and disposable items such as diapers, especially baby diapers or adult incontinence articles.

In diaper closures for disposable diapers in most cases laminates of a printed polyethylene film as a carrier and a knitted with adhesive knitted fabric made of polyamide are used. Especially with disposable products such as diapers overall low production costs and thus low basis weights of the carrier and the laminated thereon textile material are sought, so that the textile material has an open and airy structure. In such composite elements, there is generally the problem that this must have sufficient stability at the lowest possible cost, with a bonding of the for the connection with the Velcro hook provided loops is to be avoided because these are no longer available for a connection with Velcro hooks in a bond.

From the EP 0 777 006 B1 a composite element with a film as a carrier and a textile material is known, wherein the textile material has a scrim of warp and weft threads as well as knitting technically connected to the scrim loops. In order to make the textile material as light and open as possible, this is fully laminated with the carrier film. Tensile forces acting on the loops are transferred directly to the carrier foil via the adhesive, which gives the necessary strength according to the entire composite element. In order to avoid binding of the loops in the full-surface bonding, all loops are sized so that they rest on the mesh formed by the Grundgelege.

A fundamentally different approach is used in the EP 1 579 779 B1 followed, it being proposed not to connect a carrier film with a knitted textile material over its entire surface, so that in addition to adhesive surfaces and adhesive-free areas are present in which the carrier film and the textile material are loosely on each other. In these areas, the loops are completely freely accessible, in some cases even a hooking of the Velcro hooks with the basic structure of the textile material is possible. In the adhesive-free areas so an optimal Velcro effect is observed. Unlike the one from the EP 0 777 006 B1 known full-surface bonding but the textile material must have an increased strength and stability, because in the adhesive-free areas, the tensile forces must first be transferred through the textile material itself to the edge adjacent bonded areas. This increased strength is to be ensured by a suitable selection of the threads which form the textile material. Due to the savings in adhesive as well as the very good Velcro effect in the adhesive-free areas but overall can at low production costs good material properties can be achieved. The textile material may be formed of polypropylene, polyester or polyamide.

A composite element for hook-and-loop fasteners with the features described above is also known from the EP 0 875 227 A1 known. Through thermal bonding or extrusion lamination, the textile material is bonded to a backing to provide an adhesive-free composite element. The textile material is preferably made of polyamide. However, other materials such as polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate are also suitable.

From the WO 03/102286 A1 is a textile material based on polypropylene known, which can be further processed without adhesive. If the textile material is completely made of polypropylene, it can easily be completely recycled. In addition, however, there is also provided a polypropylene based material containing a variable admixture of filaments of another polymer.

The object of the present invention is to provide a composite element with a carrier and a textile material laminated to the carrier, which has an improved hook-and-loop action especially in bonded areas. The composite element should furthermore be inexpensive and in particular also suitable for disposable articles.

Starting from a composite element having the features described in the introduction, the object is achieved according to the invention in that the threads integrated into the basic structure by knitting have polyolefin, in particular polypropylene, as the main constituent.

The present invention thus teaches to use different materials for at least some of the filaments or fibers of the basic structure on the one hand and the threads incorporated into the basic structure on the other hand, taking into account the respective different requirements for the basic structure and the loops intended for use with the Velcro hooks. Thus, the basic structure must have a high strength and be laminated well with the carrier, which is preferably a film, by adhesive. Polyamide meets these requirements, because it not only has a high strength, but also due to its polarity very well with an adhesive, such as a laminating adhesive based on polyurethane, can be bonded. The inventively provided in the basic structure fibers or threads of polyamide ensure a secure bond with the carrier and high strength.

The present invention further teaches, for the threads knitted into the basic structure which form the loops provided for connection with the hook and loop, to use another material which comprises polyolefin, in particular polypropylene, as the main constituent. Main component means that the polyolefin content of the material is at least 50% by weight and preferably at least 80% by weight. The corresponding thread may also consist entirely of polyolefin, in particular propylene. Polyolefins, in particular polypropylene have no or only a comparatively low polarity and can therefore usually be glued poorly. As a result, even in the case of full-surface bonding or only partial bonding in the bonded areas, the threads which form the loops are not glued or less strongly bonded so that the velcro effect is considerably improved overall in the bonded areas. Even with a slight sticking of the loops these can also be easily solved by the adhesive when using the composite element on a hook and loop or previously in a separate process step, such as a brush, so that the loops then available for effective connection with Velcro hooks stand. In contrast to a textile material formed entirely from polyamide, the lower costs for polyolefins, in particular polypropylene, result in considerable cost savings.

The basic structure of the textile material can be formed in different ways in the context of the invention. In principle, it is possible to provide as the basic structure a nonwoven formed from fibers, which is then formed from polyamide fibers or a fiber mixture with a considerable proportion of polyamide fibers. Preferably, however, the basic structure is woven, knitted or knitted. In a woven or knitted basic structure is at least a yarn type of polyamide involved in the formation of the basic structure is provided.

In a woven basic structure with warp and weft threads, at least the warp threads or the weft threads consist of polyamide. A knitted basic structure can basically be formed from a thread type, i. H. a variety of threads, all of which are processed according to the same laying pattern. Preferably, with a knitted basic structure, two types of thread with a different leveling are provided. This makes it possible to adjust the strength and other properties of the knitted textile material. The polyamide threads have polyamide as a main component. In the usual way, however, it is also possible to provide additives, fillers, processing aids, dyes, coatings or the like which, for example, have a weight fraction of less than 30%, preferably less than 15% of the total thread material.

In a basic structure knitted from two types of thread, wales form in the effective direction, ie in the direction of production of the knitted fabric, and courses of stitches in the transverse direction. According to a preferred embodiment, a laying pattern is provided for the first type of thread, according to which this type of thread at least two wales, in particular two adjacent wales, connects. The threads of the first type of thread are largely free in the context of such a configuration between the wales and therefore can be glued well. In addition, the threads running between the wales may also be subject to great tensile forces when using the composite element, so that it is precisely these which must have high stability, which is why polyamide is also suitable as a tensile material, especially for this first type of thread. The second thread type, however, can be exactly along a wale extend in the direction of action. Depending on the requirements and thread thickness of the described second thread type can then be formed from cost polyolefin, in particular polypropylene. However, if higher tensile strengths are necessary, the filaments of the second type of thread may be formed of polyamide.

In the case of a woven or knitted basic structure, basically monofilament threads and / or multifilament threads can be used. In the previously described knitted basic structure with a first yarn type joining at least two courses and a second thread type, it proves to be particularly advantageous if the first thread type is provided as a monofilament thread and / or if the threads forming the loops are multifilament threads. Multifilament threads are particularly suitable for connection with Velcro hooks, because a certain Velcro effect is already achieved if only a part of the filaments of Kletthaken is under attack. Especially with the free-running loops results in a multifilament thread also a much softer surface. Finally, it should be noted that in the use of the composite element as a diaper closure only a limited number of opening and closing operations are provided. Thus, if a part of the filaments breaks when opened on a loop, there still remains some of the filaments of the multifilament thread, which can be used for a further connection. The threads of the second type of thread may optionally be formed as multifilament threads or monofilament threads.

As carrier in the invention in addition to a conventional film in principle also a nonwoven material into consideration, wherein the carrier is often printed with a decor, which is then visible through the laminated textile material. If the carrier is formed from a single- or multi-layered film, this preferably has at least on the surface which is laminated with the textile material, a polyolefin, in particular polyethylene, as the main component on. Particularly preferred is a low-cost single or multilayer polyethylene film.

In the context of the present invention, both a full-surface and a partial-area adhesion can take place, in which case an improved hook-and-loop capability is achieved in the bonded areas, because the loops are less strongly bonded there because of the polyolefin material used, in particular polypropylene. The basic structure with at least a proportion of threads of polyamide ensures a high stability and bond strength, so that in principle a non-full-surface bonding is sufficient, as in the EP 1 579 779 B1 and the EP 1 690 976 B1 is described. The measures described there can also be used without restriction in the context of the present invention, so that then the adhesive is applied in a pattern which is composed of adhesive surfaces and adhesive-free areas. In particular, according to the EP 1 579 779 B1 and the EP 1 960 967 B1 Adhesive pattern with continuous lines and arranged therebetween adhesive-free cells are formed. It is also conceivable to provide a substantially rectangular lattice pattern, in which case individual wales are not fastened in connection with a knitted textile material or only at crossing adhesive strips.

The proportion of the bonded area is typically between 10% and 40%, preferably between 14% and 28% of the total area in the case of non-full-area application of adhesive. Suitable are conventional laminating adhesives, in particular adhesives based on polyurethane.

The textile material, which should be as easy as possible for cost reasons but still has to have sufficient stability and Velcro, has preferably has a basis weight between 10 g / m 2 and 40 g / m 2 , preferably between 14 g / m 2 and 28 g / m 2 .

When a film is used as a carrier, it can usually be made relatively thin because this is essentially intended to be able to handle the composite element easily and to be able to apply, for example, in the waist region of a diaper. The thickness of the preferably made of polyolefin, in particular polyethylene film may for example be between 10 .mu.m and 40 .mu.m, in particular between 15 .mu.m and 25 .mu.m.

The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to a drawing showing only one exemplary embodiment. They show schematically:

Fig. 1 shows a composite element for hook-and-loop fasteners, in particular for a diaper closure, with a carrier 1 and with a clad on the support 1 2 textile material, which has a filament (L1, L2) formed basic structure and incorporated into the basic structure by knitting threads L3. The threads L3 incorporated into the basic structure by knitting form loops 3 provided for connection with hook-and-loop hooks.

The presentation of the Fig. 1 shows the threads L1, L2, which form the basic structure, and the loops forming thread L3 greatly simplified. Thus, the threads L1, L2, L3 do not run exactly in the direction of knitting or transversely thereto in a knitted basic structure, but are meshed together according to a given laying pattern, whereby a mutual wrapping of the threads L1, L2, L3 results at the individual stitches. This circumstance becomes clear from the Fig. 2 and 3 which show an exemplary laying pattern for a knitted textile material as well as the corresponding textile material itself.

According to the invention, at least one of the threads L1 of the basic structure of polyamide is formed as an essential component, while the loop forming thread L3 as a main component polyolefin, in particular polypropylene. At the in Fig. 1 illustrated lamination of the textile material 2 with the carrier 1 by adhesive 4, in particular an adhesive 4 based on polyurethane, the threads L1, L2 of the basic structure are securely connected to the carrier 1, in particular the first thread L1 or thread type of polyamide because of his Polarity can be glued very well.

In the Fig. 1 exemplified an embodiment is shown in which the adhesive is not applied over the entire surface, in which case the basic structure and in particular the relatively stable thread L1 made of polyamide ensure high strength. The forces acting on the non-bonded areas during use of the composite element can be transmitted via the sufficiently stable basic structure into the bonded areas.

Fig. 2 shows by way of example a laying pattern for the textile material 2 of the composite element. The entire textile material 2 is formed from three types of threads, ie three threads guided differently over the needles of a knitting machine and uniformly recurring in the transverse direction. The basic structure is made of a first thread type L1 and a second thread type L2, forming in the direction of action W, ie the direction of production, wale s and in the transverse direction mesh rows r. The first thread L1, that is, the first thread type, is knitted so as to join two adjacent wales s, with the thread L1 being looped from line row r to course line r. The first thread type L1, which gives the textile material 2 the stability in the transverse direction, consists of polyamide, for example PA6.

The second thread L2 or the second thread type of the basic structure is guided in the exemplary embodiment exactly along in each case one wale s in the direction W of the fabric. Depending on requirements, this second thread L2 may be formed from polyamide or a polyolefin, in particular polypropylene. While in an embodiment of polyamide results in improved strength and bond strength, an embodiment of polypropylene allows a reduction of the total cost.

The third thread L3 or thread type is integrated into the basic structure and forms free loops 3. The loops are produced by forming a free loop head between two loop loops entwined on one wale s, which does not interfere with the other threads L1 in the knitting process , L2 is meshed. After the kneading process, the loop 3 formed in this way can rise up and connect with Velcro hooks. Since the material of the loops 3 forming thread L3 is less strongly fixed in conventional laminating adhesives, the Velcro effect is improved in bonded areas. In the context of a comparison, on the one hand, a completely made of PA6 knitted fabric according to the prior art with a basis weight of 18 g / m 2 of PA6 yarns and polypropylene yarns having a basis weight of the textile material of about 15 g / m 2 on a composite film made of polyethylene laminated with a thickness of 18 microns. The lamination was done by gluing in a rectangular adhesive pattern with a coverage of adhesive of 23%. In the case of the composite element according to the invention, starting from a knitting pattern according to FIG Fig. 2 the first thread type L1 of polyamide 6 (PAG) threads, while the remaining threads L2, L3 are made of polypropylene. Taking into account the thread sizes used, the total weight fraction of polyamide in the textile material 2 was 30% compared to 70% polypropylene. Peelability and peel strength were tested to verify the Velcro effect using tests according to ASTM D5170-91 (Shear / Peel Test) and ASTM D5169-91 (Dyn Shear Test). Hooks of the type "3M CHK 01088" were used as hook material. The experiments show that the force determined to a maximum in the embodiment according to the invention could be increased by about 70% compared with the prior art.
