Abstract

The present invention relates to a dishwasher (1) comprising an upper and lower basket (3), wherein kitchen utensils can be placed, disposed inside the washing chamber (2). One of the criteria that directly affect washing performance is the arrangement of utensils in the baskets (3) and the position of the baskets (3) in the dishwasher. Height adjustable baskets (3) require arrangements to maintain the hydraulic supply to the spray arm at all heights. In the present invention this is achieved through the spray arm feed pipe having flexibility achieved through the use of plastic components in the feed pipe of differing hardness.

Description

Description
A DISHWASHER WITH A FLEXIBLE SPRAY ARM FEED PIPE
[0001] The present invention relates to a dishwasher having variable loading alternatives.
[0002] As is known, dishwashers generally comprise upper and lower baskets, for placing kitchen utensils therein, which is disposed in the washing chamber. Each basket is moved outwards from the washing chamber to load the utensils in the basket or to unload from the basket.
[0003] A spray arm pipe is provided under each basket that delivers water from the water conduit that is generally connected to the outlet situated on the rear wall of the body and a rotating spray arm is connected to the end of the spray arm pipe for delivering water by spraying on the objects placed in the basket.
[0004] The baskets can move up and down in the washing chamber so that kitchen utensils of various sizes can be easily placed in the upper and lower baskets. Generally the upper basket can move up and down within a certain distance.
[0005] In conventional art, the spray arm pipe is connected correspondingly to the water conduit outlet. Therefore, there are at least two outlets on the water conduit along the distance the basket moves. In order to prevent water leakage during the movement of the basket, a sealing group made up of elements such as shutter, gasket etc. has to be used between the water conduit outlet and the spray arm pipe.
[0006] In the state of the art German Patent Application No DE19705548, the spray arm pipe is coupled to a feed pipe and the spray arm pivotably. Thus, the angle of the spray arm pipe with the point of connection to the feed pipe and the spray arm can be changed with respect to the position of the basket. In this document, it is furthermore explained that the spray arm pipe has a telescopic configuration for allowing adjustment of length.
[0007] The baskets of the dishwasher as well as moving up and down can also tilt to the right or left in order to effectively emplace objects of various sizes in the baskets. Thus, the place whereto the spray arm pipe is connected to the feeder line can be rigid. [0008] In the state of the art European Patent Application No EP0372342, the spray arm pipe can move up and down and tilt to the right and left. In this document, the spray arm pipe has a variable length.
[0009] In the state of the art United States of America Patent No US7055537, a dishwasher is explained comprising a wash tube mounted on the basket, including a bellows for extending and retracting, and for enabling the basket to move easily.
[0010] The aim of the present invention is the realization of a dishwasher that comprises a movable basket.
[0011] The dishwasher realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises an intermediary element for connecting the feeder conduit outlet to the basket, an adaptor for connecting the spray arm to the basket and a distributor that connects the adaptor and the intermediary element to each other, having a pipe manufactured of a material with a hardness lower than the plastic of the said two elements, secured on the basket for delivering the water received from the feeder conduit to the spray arm.
[0012] The pipe is bendable since it is manufactured of a material with a lower hardness than the plastic material of which the adaptor and the intermediary element is produced. The said three elements are produced by double plastic injection method by combining plastic materials of two different hardness levels. This allows the up and down or sideways tilting movement of the basket to be easier.
[0013] In another embodiment of the present invention, the pipe is also produced of plastic material with at least two different hardness levels by double plastic injection method in the same mould as the adaptor and the intermediary element. In this embodiment, the portions of the pipe neighboring to the adaptor and the intermediary element are produced of a plastic material with a lower hardness. Thus, during the movement of the adaptor and the intermediary element with respect to each other, these portions can be bent being produced of a lower hardness plastic material and the distributor can adjust to the movement of the basket more easily.
[0014] The cross-section of the pipe does not get narrow at the bending points and a barrier is not formed in front of the water since there isn't any connection or passage point between the surfaces wherein the water flows. Dead zones are not formed wherein the dirt in the wash water collects since there isn't any pivoted or bellowed connection formed with the adaptor and the intermediary element on the pipe.
[0015] In another embodiment of the present invention, while the adaptor and the intermediary element are produced of thermoplastic material, the pipe is produced of thermoplastic elastomer material with a lower hardness. Thus, plastic materials of two different hardness levels can be joined by plastic injection method.
[0016] In another embodiment of the present invention, the basket is made of two pieces, the support surface can move up and down, or to the right and left with respect to the frame. In this embodiment, the intermediary element is secured on the frame and the adaptor is secured beneath the support surface. In this embodiment, the portions of the pipe neighboring to the adaptor and the intermediary element are produced of a plastic material with a lower hardness than the plastic material used for producing the adaptor and the intermediary element, thus allowing the distributor to maintain a movement adjustable to the motion of the support surface by means of the pipe.
[0017] By means of the present invention, while the basket is moved, there is no pressure difference during delivery of water received from the feeder conduit to the spray arm. Moreover, by producing the distributor in one piece, to be bendable conforming to the movement of the basket, the requirement for using mechanical components such as pivots or bellows on the distributor is eliminated, thus preventing collection of wastes on these mechanical structures.

Thus, the adaptor (11) and the intermediary element (9) can move easily with respect to each other while the basket (3) moves by forming bendable regions on the pipe (10) in the portions adjacent to the intermediary element (9) and the adaptor (11) that are easily adaptable to the movement of the basket (3).

When the support surface (8) of the basket (3) is desired to be tilted sideways, this time the portion of the pipe (10) neighboring with the adaptor (11), containing a material (B) with a lower hardness level is bent for maintaining a motion adaptable to the movement of the support surface (8) (Figure 5). Consequently, the up and down or sideways movements of the support surface (8) and the adaptor (11) with the spray arm (5) secured thereon is maintained by producing the portions of the pipe (10) intended to be bent from a plastic material with a lower hardness level.
[0033] In another embodiment of the present invention, the spray arm (5) is mounted on the base of the upper basket (3).
[0034] By means of the present invention, the basket (3) with the spray arm (5) mounted thereon can be easily moved inside the washing chamber (2), without any variation in pressure of water flowing through the adaptor (6) and without requiring to use pivoted or bellowed structures that allow collection of dirt therein.

Claims
1. A dishwasher (1) that comprises a washing chamber (2), at least one basket (3) disposed inside the washing chamber (2), wherein the kitchen utensils can be emplaced, a feeder conduit (4) for delivering water received from the main supply to the intended place in the washing chamber (2), and a spray arm (5) that delivers water on the objects emplaced in the basket (3) and characterized by a distributor (6) mounted to the basket (3), manufactured by double plastic injection method wherein plastic materials (A, B) having two different hardness levels are combined together, having an intermediary element (9) for attaching the feeder conduit (4) outlet on the basket (3), an adaptor (11) mounted on the basket (3), whereon the spray arm (5) is connected, and a pipe (10) that connects the intermediary element (9) with the adaptor (11), for conveying water received from the feeder conduit (4) to the spray arm (5), produced of a resilient plastic material (B) with a hardness lower than the hardness level of the plastic material (A) of which the adaptor (11) and the intermediary element (9) are produced.
2. A dishwasher (1) as in Claim 1 , characterized by a distributor (6) comprising an intermediary element (9) and an adaptor (11) manufactured of thermoplastic material (A).
3. A dishwasher (1) as in Claim 1 or 2, characterized by a pipe (10) produced of thermoplastic elastomer type plastic material (B).
4. A dishwasher (1) as in Claims 1 to 3, characterized by a pipe (10) produced in one piece by applying plastic injection method in the same mould to plastic materials (A, B) having at least two different hardness levels.
5. A dishwasher (1) as in Claim 4, characterized by a pipe (10), the portions thereof neighboring to the intermediary element (9) and the adaptor (11) made of plastic material (B) with a lower hardness, and the portion remaining in between is made of a material (A) with a higher hardness level.
6. A dishwasher (1) as in any one of the above Claims, characterized by a basket (3) of two-piece configuration, comprising a frame (7) and a support surface (8) forming the base of the basket (3) for supporting the objects placed thereon, movable with respect to the frame (7), an intermediary element (9) fixed on the frame (7) and an adaptor (11), with the spray arm (5) attached thereon, secured beneath the support surface (8).
