L'invention concerne un monolithe catalytique pour gaz d'échappement issus d'un moteur à combustion interne, du type comprenant une pluralité de canaux (4) traversant le monolithe d'une face transversale à l'autre, les canaux (4) comprenant plusieurs parois (10), le monolithe comprenant en outre un matériau catalytique de revêtement (14) appliqué sur les parois (10) des canaux (4), le matériau catalytique (14) présentant une surface catalytique (16) au contact des gaz d'échappement s'écoulant le long des canaux (4). La distance (d) entre un point de la surface catalytique (16) et le point le plus proche de la paroi (10) sur laquelle repose le revêtement (14) en ce point, varie selon une direction longitudinale du monolithe de telle sorte que la surface catalytique (16) a une géométrie adaptée à un écoulement non laminaire des gaz d'échappement dans les canaux (4).

Description

Monolithe catalvtique pour gaz d'échappement issus d'un moteur à combustion interne
La présente invention concerne un monolithe catalytique pour gaz d'échappement issus d'un moteur à combustion interne, du type comprenant une plura- lité de canaux traversant le monolithe d'une face transversale à l'autre, les canaux comprenant plusieurs parois, le monolithe comprenant en outre un matériau catalytique de revêtement appliqué sur les parois des canaux, le matériau catalytique présentant une surface catalytique au contact des gaz d'échappement s'écoulant le long des canaux. Dans l'industrie automobile, l'utilisation de monolithes catalytiques métalliques ou céramiques est courante. Ces monolithes comprennent de nombreux canaux, le plus généralement rectilignes et parallèles, traversant les monolithes d'une face transversale à l'autre.
En conditions normales, les gaz d'échappement s'écoulant dans les canaux ont un flux laminaire qui est parallèle à l'axe des canaux. En effet, les gaz entrent dans les canaux avec un flux turbulent mais, du fait du faible diamètre des canaux (0,5 mm à 1 ,0 mm) un flux laminaire s'établit rapidement après environ 1 cm de cheminement des gaz dans les canaux.
En conséquence, le transfert massique des polluants du flux laminaire des gaz vers la surface catalytique des canaux se fait par diffusion massique radiale. Or, l'efficacité d'une diffusion massique radiale est moindre comparée à celle des transferts massiques résultant d'un flux de gaz turbulent. L'utilisation de quantités importantes de matériaux de revêtement tels que des métaux du groupe platine (MGP), est alors nécessaire. II existe des monolithes à structure métallique permettant de créer un tel flux turbulent. Ces monolithes comprennent par exemple un empilement de feuilles de métal alternativement lisses et ondulées. Les ondulations des feuilles ondulées sont par exemple formées de plusieurs segments reliés et disposés les uns derrières les autres dans la direction de flux des gaz, les segments étant décalés transversalement à la di- rection de flux, comme décrit dans le document US-A-4,665,051.
Cependant, ces monolithes ont un coût élevé et supportent mal l'adjonction d'un matériau catalytique de revêtement du fait de leur fort coefficient de dilation thermique.
A ce jour, on ne peut reproduire les configurations de ces structures métalliques sur un monolithe en céramique car les monolithes qui en résulteraient seraient trop fra- giles. Un but de l'invention est de permettre une réduction de la quantité de matériaux de revêtement appliquée sur un monolithe grâce à l'établissement d'un écoulement turbulent à l'intérieur des canaux, et ce par des moyens moins coûteux et exigeants dans leur mise en œuvre que les moyens connus. A cet effet, l'invention a pour objet un monolithe catalytique du type précité, caractérisé en ce que la distance entre un point de la surface catalytique et le point le plus proche de la paroi sur laquelle repose le revêtement en ce point, varie selon une direction longitudinale du monolithe de telle sorte que la surface catalytique a une géométrie adaptée à un écoulement non laminaire des gaz d'échappement dans les canaux. Suivant des modes particuliers de réalisation, le monolithe comporte l'une ou plusieurs des caractéristiques suivantes, prise(s) isolément ou suivant toutes les combinaisons techniquement possibles :
- la surface catalytique présente, sur au moins une portion longitudinale des canaux, une normale formant avec une normale de la paroi associée, un angle supérieur ou égal à 20°,
- la géométrie de la surface catalytique est telle qu'elle décrit, sur au moins une portion longitudinale des canaux, un motif en bosses et en creux,
- l'amplitude du motif est comprise entre 50 μm et 200 μm, de préférence environ égale à 100 μm, - le motif est régulier et a une longueur périodique comprise entre 100 μm et 500 μm, de préférence environ égale à 200 μm,
- le monolithe a une longueur comprise entre 5 cm et 100 cm, et un diamètre moyen compris entre 1 cm et 30 cm, le monolithe ayant entre 50 et 100 canaux par cm2, - le monolithe est réalisé en un matériau céramique.
L'invention a également pour objet un procédé d'application d'un revêtement catalytique pour gaz d'échappement issus d'un moteur à combustion interne, sur un monolithe comprenant une pluralité de canaux traversant le monolithe d'une face transversale à l'autre, les canaux comprenant plusieurs parois, dans lequel on immerge le mo- nolithe dans un bain constitué du matériau de revêtement catalytique à l'état liquide, caractérisé en ce que après avoir sorti le monolithe du bain, on le soumet à des vibrations selon l'axe longitudinal du monolithe de manière à obtenir une surface ondulée pour le matériau de revêtement catalytique. Suivant des modes particuliers de réalisation, le procédé comporte l'une ou plusieurs des caractéristiques suivantes, prise(s) isolément ou suivant toutes les combinaisons techniquement possibles :
- les vibrations ont une amplitude comprise entre 0,1 mm et 1 mm, de préférence environ égale à 0,5 mm et une fréquence comprise entre 10 Hz et 50 Hz, de préférence environ égale à 20 Hertz,
- il comprend en outre, pendant la phase de vibrations, une étape de séchage du revêtement catalytique, réalisée au moyen d'un flux d'air chaud traversant le monolithe d'une face transversale à l'autre. L'invention sera mieux comprise à la lecture de la description qui va suivre, donnée uniquement à titre d'exemple et se référant aux dessins annexés, sur lesquels :
- la figure 1 est une vue schématique de face en perspective d'un monolithe catalytique selon l'invention ;
- la figure 2 est une vue schématique latérale en section longitudinale d'un canal du monolithe de la figure 1 ;
- la figure 3 est une vue schématique latérale d'une machine vibratoire permettant de réaliser un procédé d'application d'un revêtement catalytique, selon l'invention ;
- la figure 4 est une vue en coupe selon la ligne IV-IV de la figure 3 ;
- la figure 5 est une vue en coupe selon la ligne V-V de la figure 3 ; et - la figure 6 est un graphique illustrant la relation entre une fréquence des vibrations et une amplitude des ondulations.
La figure 1 illustre un monolithe catalytique 2 pour gaz d'échappement issus d'un moteur à combustion interne, notamment de véhicule automobile. Le monolithe 2 est destiné à être inséré dans une ligne d'échappement afin de réduire les émissions pol- luantes vers l'atmosphère.
Le monolithe 2 est réalisé en céramique. Il comprend une pluralité de canaux 4 disposés en lignes et en colonnes, et traversant le monolithe 2 longitudinalement d'une face transversale 6 à l'autre.
Le monolithe 2 a, comme illustré sur la figure 1 , une forme générale de cylindre s'étendant suivant un axe longitudinal A. Cependant, cette forme cylindrique n'est pas limitative et le monolithe 2 peut avoir toute forme appropriée à son insertion dans la ligne d'échappement et aisée à fabriquer, notamment parallélépipédique.
A l'exclusion des quelques canaux 4 situés sur la périphérie du monolithe 2, chaque canal 4 comprend quatre parois de séparation 10 sensiblement planes et de même dimensions. Les parois 10 se coupent à angle droit et sont toutes parallèles à l'axe A du monolithe 2. Elles comprennent deux parois 10 que l'on peut qualifier d'"horizontales" et deux parois 10 que l'on peut qualifier de "verticales". Les parois 10 illustrées sur la figure 2 sont des parois 10 horizontales. Néanmoins, les parois 10 de chaque canal 4 sont sensiblement identiques en forme et en dimensions dans l'exemple représenté.
Chaque canal 4 comprend en outre un matériau catalytique 14 appliqué sur chacune des parois 10 sur la quasi-totalité de leur surface. Le matériau 14 présente une surface catalytique 16, au contact des gaz d'échappement s'écoulant le long des canaux 4. Le matériau 14 a une épaisseur en un point de la surface catalytique 16 égale à la distance "d" entre ce point de la surface catalytique 16 et le point le plus proche de la paroi 10 sur laquelle le matériau 14 est déposé en ce point.
La distance "d" entre la surface 16 et la paroi 10 associée varie continûment selon l'axe longitudinal du canal 4, parallèle à l'axe longitudinal A du monolithe, de telle sorte que la surface 16 a une géométrie adaptée à un écoulement non laminaire des gaz d'échappement dans les canaux 4. La distance "d" est sensiblement constante selon une direction transversale.
La surface 16 présente, en regard de chacune des parois 10 horizontales et verticales qui lui sont associées, et dans chaque canal 4, une géométrie analogue, dans l'exemple représenté. En effet, la surface catalytique 16 décrit, dans la direction longitudinale des parois 10 et sur toute la longueur du canal 4, un motif régulier en bosses 20 et en creux 22.
L'amplitude entre les bosses 20 et les creux 22 est définie par la distance "a" entre la droite longitudinale tangente à la bosse 20 et la droite longitudinale tangente au creux 22 adjacent. Une longueur périodique est définie par la distance "b" entre la droite transversale passant par le sommet d'une bosse 20 et la droite transversale passant par le sommet d'une bosse adjacente 20.
L'amplitude "a" d'un canal 4 selon l'invention est avantageusement comprise entre 50 μm et 200 μm, de préférence environ 100 μm. La longueur périodique "b" est avantageusement comprise entre 100 μm et 500 μm, de préférence environ égale à 200 μm.
Ainsi, la normale à la surface catalytique 16 forme un angle variable avec la normale à la surface de la paroi 10 associée. En effet, selon l'invention, sur au moins une portion longitudinale du canal 4, la surface 16 a une normale formant avec une normale de la paroi associée 10, un angle supérieur ou égal à 20°. Le monolithe 2 a une longueur comprise entre 5 cm et 100 cm et une section transversale du monolithe 2 a un diamètre moyen compris entre 1 cm et 30 cm , le monolithe ayant entre 50 et 100 canaux par cm2.
Le matériau céramique formant le monolithe 2 comprend par exemple les com- posés suivants ou leurs mélanges :
- Cordiérite, SiC, B4C, Si3N4, BN, AIN, AI2O3, ZrO2, Y2O3, CeO2, titanate d'aluminium, ZrB2, Mullite, et Sialon®.
Le matériau catalytique de revêtement 14 comprend par exemple les composés suivants ou leurs mélanges : - pour une réduction catalytique sélective (SCR) destinée à traiter NOx : AI2O3,
TiO2, ZrO2, CeO2, Y2O3, SiO2, ainsi que des éléments catalytiques typiques tels que des métaux précieux (Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Re, Au, Ag), des métaux de transition (Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn), des perovskites ou des zeolites dopées en Cu, Fe, ou Mn ;
- pour un piège à NOx destiné à traiter les NOx : AI2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, CeO2, Y2O3, dopés en Ba ou Mn, avec des éléments catalytiques typiques tels que des métaux précieux (Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Re, Au , Ag, U, Np, Pu, Am) ou des métaux de transition (Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) ;
- pour des catalyseurs à trois voies destinés à traiter les hydrocarbures, le CO et NOx : AI2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, CeO2, Y2O3 avec des éléments catalytiques typiques tels que des métaux précieux (Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Re, Au , Ag) ou des métaux de transition (Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) ;
- pour des catalyseurs à oxydation totale destinés à traiter le CO et les hydrocarbures et former du NO2 : AI2O3, TiO2, ZrO2, CeO2, Y2O3 avec des éléments catalytiques typiques tels que des métaux précieux (Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Re, Au , Ag) ou des métaux de transition (Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn).
Les figures 3 à 5 illustrent une machine vibratoire 28 adaptée pour la mise en oeuvre d'un procédé d'application du matériau 14 sur le monolithe 2, selon l'invention.
La machine 28 comprend un support fixe 30 adapté pour porter et serrer fermement le monolithe 2, un dispositif vibratoire 32 adapté pour soumettre le monolithe 2 à des vibrations selon son axe longitudinal A, et une unité de commande 34 du dispositif 32.
Le support 30 possède un bâti 38 solidaire du sol, deux organes de serrage et de support 40 s'étendant verticalement de part et d'autre du monolithe 2. Les organes 40 possèdent des bras 41 verticaux, fixés chacun de manière rigide dans le support 30. Les organes 40 sont adaptés pour serrer le monolithe 2 et possèdent chacun à cet effet une mâchoire longitudinale 42 fixée rigidement sur un bras 41 respectif et dont la forme épouse la surface externe du monolithe 2.
Les mâchoires 42 ont une surface importante de façon à répartir les efforts ap- pliqués par les mâchoires 42 sur le monolithe 2.
Les bras 41 sont mobiles en translation par rapport au bâti 38 suivant un axe transversal du monolithe 2, de telle sorte que la distance entre les deux mâchoires 42 est réglable.
Les bras 41 sont faiblement élastiques, de manière à permettre de maintenir fermement en position le monolithe 2 tout en permettant un léger mouvement de ce dernier selon son axe longitudinal A.
Les mâchoires 42 sont par exemple réalisées dans un matériau polymère dur et résistant à la chaleur (comme le téflon ® ou la fibre de verre tissée) ou en un métal mou (comme l'aluminium). Le dispositif vibratoire 32 est composé d'un bâti 46 solidaire du sol et d'un collier vibratoire 48.
Comme illustré sur la figure 5, le collier 48 est muni de deux bras rigides vibratoires 50 s'étendant verticalement de part et d'autre du monolithe 2, et d'un cylindre rigide 52 entourant la surface externe de l'extrémité amont du monolithe 2 et formant un re- bord appuyant sur la périphérie de la face transversale 6 de cette extrémité. Les deux bras 50 sont montés mobiles en translation suivant l'axe longitudinal A du monolithe 2, c'est-à-dire la direction droite-gauche sur la figure 3, de telle sorte qu'ils peuvent imprimer une vibration (ou un choc) selon cet axe avec par exemple une amplitude comprise entre 0,1 et 1 ,0 mm, de préférence environ égale à 0,5 mm, et une fréquence par exemple comprise entre 10Hz et 50Hz, de préférence environ égale à 20 Hz.
Le cylindre 52 est solidaire des bras 50 de telle sorte que le mouvement vibratoire des bras 50 est intégralement transmis au monolithe 2.
Le cylindre 52 est par exemple réalisé en un matériau polymère dur et résistant à la chaleur (comme le téflon ® ou la fibre de verre tissée) ou en un métal mou (comme l'aluminium).
L'unité de commande 34 est adaptée pour asservir le dispositif vibratoire 32 à une valeur d'amplitude vibratoire et à une valeur de fréquence vibratoire prédéterminées.
La machine 28 comporte en outre un appareil 56 de ventilation et de chauffage adapté pour fournir un flux d'air chaud traversant le monolithe 2 d'une face transversale 6 à l'autre, dont le débit est compris entre 0,1 et 2 l/s, de préférence environ 1 l/s, et dont la température en sortie de l'appareil 56 est par exemple comprise entre 50 et 100°, de préférence environ 80 °C.
Le procédé de fabrication du monolithe 2 comprend une première étape de fabri- cation de la structure céramique du monolithe 2. Cette première étape est effectuée selon toute technique connue et ne constitue pas en elle-même un élément innovant de l'invention.
Une fois un monolithe 2 nu obtenu, le monolithe 2 est intégralement immergé dans une solution liquide du matériau 14, de manière à imprégner les parois 10 des canaux 4 sur la quasi-totalité de leur surface et avec une épaisseur uniforme, de telle sorte que la distance "d" est uniforme et comprise entre 10 μm et 150 μm, de préférence environ égale à 50 μm.
Le procédé comprend ensuite, aussitôt que possible après la fin de l'étape précédente, une étape consistant : - à la mise en place et au serrage du monolithe 2 dans les mâchoires 42 de la machine vibratoire 28 ;
- la commande par l'unité 34 du dispositif vibratoire 32 de façon à soumettre le collier 48, et le monolithe 2 solidaire, aux vibrations décrites ci-dessus de manière à réaliser une ondulation de la surface 16 du matériau de revêtement 14 jusqu'à son sé- chage ;
- pendant la phase de vibration, une étape de séchage forcée réalisée au moyen de l'appareil 56 décrit ci-dessus.
Les vibrations ont par exemple une amplitude comprise entre 0,1 mm et 1 mm, de préférence entre 0,4 et 0,6 mm, de préférence encore environ égale à 0,5 mm, et une fréquence comprise entre 10 et 50 Hz, de préférence entre 15 et 30 Hz, de préférence environ égale à 20 Hz.
Le procédé comporte enfin une étape de traitement thermique jusqu'à l'état final du monolithe 2 et du matériau 14, de manière connue, ainsi qu'une étape ultérieure éventuelle d'usinage du monolithe 2. Comme illustré par le diagramme de la figure 6, il existe pour une amplitude donnée des vibrations, sur un certain domaine de fréquence, sensiblement une relation selon une fonction affine (de type y = -cx+d) entre l'amplitude "a" du motif obtenu sur la surface 16 et la fréquence des vibrations imprimées au monolithe 2. La fréquence est inversement proportionnelle à l'amplitude "a". Globalement, plus la fréquence aug- mente, plus l'amplitude "a" diminue. Sur la figure 6, cette fonction affine est illustrée par une courbe 60 d'équation y = -4,8x + 246. Cette relation est déterminée expérimentalement. La fréquence est représentée sur l'axe horizontal 62 et l'amplitude "a" sur l'axe vertical 64.
Il en est sensiblement de même pour la relation (non représentée) entre la lon- gueur périodique "b" du motif et la fréquence des vibrations.
D'une manière générale, pour une amplitude donnée des vibrations, l'amplitude "a" augmente et la longueur "b" augmente lorsque la fréquence des vibrations diminue.
L'épaisseur du revêtement catalytique 14 est uniforme avant la mise en vibration du monolithe 2. Pour éviter que le revêtement 14 perde ponctuellement le contact avec la surface de la paroi 10 sur laquelle il repose, à l'issue de l'application des vibrations, il est préférable que l'amplitude "a" ne dépasse pas deux fois, de préférence une fois et demie l'épaisseur initiale du revêtement catalytique 14.
En effet, le profil des ondulations formées par les vibrations est lié à l'existence de zones à forte pression et de zones à faible pression dans le revêtement 14. La ma- tière du matériau catalytique 14 est poussée des zones à forte pression vers les zones à faible pression en formant les ondulations. Si trop de matière catalytique est déplacée vers les zones de faible pression, le contact entre la paroi 10 et le matériau 14 peut être localement rompu. L'accrochage entre le matériau catalytique 14 et la paroi 10 est alors détérioré. Egalement, si on maximise la surface géométrique du revêtement catalytique 14, on facilite la diffusion moléculaire autour de la grande surface spécifique.
Ainsi, pour une amplitude des vibrations de 0,5 mm, et une fréquence de 20 Hz, une épaisseur initiale de revêtement catalytique 14 de 100 μm, la longueur périodique "b" sera environ 1 mm et l'amplitude "a" sera environ 150 μm. Pour une même amplitude des vibrations mais à une fréquence de 40 Hz, la longueur périodique "b" sera en- viron 0,5 mm et l'amplitude "a" sera environ 50 μm. Enfin, pour une même amplitude des vibrations mais à une fréquence de 50 Hz, la longueur périodique "b" sera environ 0,4 mm et l'amplitude "a" sera environ 10 μm.
La durée d'application des vibrations par le dispositif vibratoire 32, au monolithe
2, est par exemple au minimum de 5 s., de préférence entre 10 et 15 s.. Ce temps est suffisant pour établir un motif ondulatoire régulier de la surface catalytique 16 et assurer un séchage suffisant du matériau 14, avant un traitement thermique final conventionnel d'imprégnation du revêtement 14.
Ainsi, avec l'invention, l'efficacité catalytique est augmentée par la turbulence du flux de gaz d'échappement traversant les canaux 4. L'augmentation de la turbulence de flux est obtenue par la géométrie ondulée de la surface catalytique 16 des canaux 4. Cette géométrie ne nuit pas à l'écoulement général des gaz à travers le monolithe 2.
Du fait de l'amélioration des performances du monolithe catalytique 2 selon l'invention, il est possible de réduire sa longueur et donc la quantité de matériau cataly- tique de revêtement utilisée par rapport au monolithe catalytique de l'art antérieur.
L'application de l'invention ne se limite pas aux véhicules automobiles et l'invention peut être utilisée pour traiter les gaz d'échappement de tout moteur à combustion interne, même en station fixe.
En variante, le monolithe 2 est une brique monolithique destinée à constituer une partie d'un monolithe 2.
En variante également, le monolithe 2 est réalisé en métal et/ou en oxyde de métal. En effet, l'invention permet de réaliser des monolithes métalliques à écoulement turbulent dans leurs canaux, sans qu'il soit nécessaire de conférer une ondulation aux parois du monolithe elles-mêmes, donc d'une manière aisée et économique.

Claims

REVENDICATIONS
1.- Monolithe (2) catalytique pour gaz d'échappement issus d'un moteur à combustion interne, du type comprenant une pluralité de canaux (4) traversant le monolithe (2) d'une face transversale (6) à l'autre, les canaux (4) comprenant plusieurs parois (10), le monolithe (2) comprenant en outre un matériau catalytique de revêtement (14) appliqué sur les parois (10) des canaux (4), le matériau catalytique (14) présentant une surface catalytique (16) au contact des gaz d'échappement s'écoulant le long des canaux (4), caractérisé en ce que la distance (d) entre un point de la surface catalytique (16) et le point le plus proche de la paroi (10) sur laquelle repose le revêtement (14) en ce point, varie selon une direction longitudinale (A) du monolithe (2) de telle sorte que la surface catalytique (16) a une géométrie adaptée à un écoulement non laminaire des gaz d'échappement dans les canaux (4).
2. Monolithe (2) selon la revendication 1 , caractérisé en ce que la surface catalytique (16) présente, sur au moins une portion longitudinale des canaux (4), une normale formant avec une normale de la paroi associée (10), un angle supérieur ou égal à 20°.
3. Monolithe (2) selon la revendication 1 ou 2, caractérisé en ce que la géométrie de la surface catalytique (16) est telle qu'elle décrit, sur au moins une portion longitudinale des canaux (4), un motif en bosses (20) et en creux (22).
4.- Monolithe (2) selon la revendication 3, caractérisé en ce que l'amplitude (a) du motif est comprise entre 50 μm et 200 μm, de préférence environ égale à 100 μm.
5.- Monolithe (2) selon la revendication 3 ou 4, caractérisé en ce que le motif est régulier et a une longueur périodique (b) comprise entre 100 μm et 500 μm, de préférence environ égale à 200 μm.
6.- Monolithe (2) selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, carac- térisé en ce que le monolithe (2) a une longueur comprise entre 5 cm et 100 cm, et un diamètre moyen compris entre 1 cm et 30 cm, le monolithe ayant entre 50 et 100 canaux par cm2.
7.- Monolithe (2) selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, caractérisé en ce que le monolithe (2) est réalisé en un matériau céramique.
8.- Procédé d'application d'un revêtement (14) catalytique pour gaz d'échappement issus d'un moteur à combustion interne, sur un monolithe (2) comprenant une pluralité de canaux traversant le monolithe (2) d'une face transversale (6) à l'autre, les canaux (4) comprenant plusieurs parois (10), dans lequel on immerge le monolithe (2) dans un bain constitué du matériau de revêtement catalytique (14) à l'état liquide, caractérisé en ce que après avoir sorti le monolithe (2) du bain, on le soumet à des vibrations selon l'axe longitudinal (A) du monolithe (2) de manière à obtenir une surface ondulée pour le matériau de revêtement catalytique (14).
9.- Procédé selon la revendication 8, caractérisé en ce que les vibrations ont une amplitude comprise entre 0,1 mm et 1 mm, de préférence environ égale à 0,5 mm, et une fréquence comprise entre 10 Hz et 50 Hz, de préférence environ égale à 20 Hertz.
10.- Procédé selon la revendication 8 ou 9, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend en outre, pendant la phase de vibrations, une étape de séchage du revêtement catalytique (14), réalisée au moyen d'un flux d'air chaud traversant le monolithe (2) d'une face transversale (16) à l'autre.
