Definitions
- the invention relates to a light signal with a designed for a filament assembly optical system for emitting the light in at least one solid angle, in particular for the presentation of signal terms in rail-bound traffic routes.
- a filament arrangement of an incandescent lamp is predominantly used as the illuminant, the light of which is directed by means of an optical system into a defined solid angle for distant vision and frequently additionally a second defined solid angle for near vision.
- Light signals for railway safety systems usually form a complex system consisting of incandescent lamp, color wheel, lens system, cover glass and possibly an additional lens. This system is optimally matched to the characteristic properties of the special filament arrangement of the incandescent lamp used in each case, wherein the filament arrangement is located at the focal point of the optical system. Due to the focal position of the filament arrangement this is imaged by the optical system to infinity. Since the radiating surfaces of the preferably coiled filament adjoin one another in the sub-millimeter range, the incandescent filament appears in the far-vision region of the light signal as homogeneously illuminated surface. For better light mixing is often additionally provided a lens.
- the complexity of the optical system is also due to the fact that as different attachment and observation points, curve radii of the rail and detection distances must be realized.
- a disadvantage of the use of filament arrangements as light sources is especially their relatively short life, which is also individually very different and hardly predictable. This can lead to failures that cause significant disruptions to the rail operation.
- Another disadvantage of the classic filament arrangement is that only a maximum of 5% of the energy used is converted into light, while the rest of the energy used evaporates as heat. Hallogen lamps work on the filament principle, but are a little more efficient.
- LEDs - light-emitting diodes A completely different principle is based on light-emitting semiconductor chips, for example LEDs - light-emitting diodes. LEDs generate light by electrical excitation of a semiconductor. Up to 40% of the energy used is converted into light. LEDs are also small, rugged, and durable, with a lifespan of up to 100,000 operating hours. Due to continuous development of LED technology, LEDs have become available that also meet the stringent requirements of railway light signals with regard to luminous flux height and color consistency. Due to the continuous development of LEDs, there is an increasing need to replace filament arrays with LED arrays. The problem here is especially the optical adjustment, since the existing optical system is tuned to the specific radiation characteristics of the filament arrangement. The known semiconductor chips have LED-based a completely different emission characteristics, so that usually the complete optical system must be replaced by a LED-specific optical system, such as in the EP 1 457 945 A1 and the US 6,249,375 B1 described.
- the invention is therefore based on the object to provide a light signal of the generic type, which enables the further use of the existing optical system and also the essential components of the light signal and the housing without loss of optical quality.
- the object is achieved in that the filament arrangement by a light-emitting semiconductor chip assembly, in particular LED array, with filament-specific parameters, in particular with respect to geometric Dimensions, luminous flux level and luminous flux distribution, is replaced.
- the invention is based on the finding that the geometry of the filament and its luminous flux characteristics can be reproduced by at least one latest-generation light-emitting semiconductor chip. Suitable for this purpose are, for example, small, rod-shaped LEDs of the CL-L100 series from Citizen Electronics Co. Ltd. With these elongated LED lighting surfaces, it is possible to reproduce elongated filament shapes, which was not feasible with the required shape fidelity with the widespread round radiating surfaces of older LED generations. In principle, each multi-filament incandescent lamp can also be simulated by correspondingly shaped or arranged semiconductor chips.
- the high-quality optical system of proven design ensures optimum illumination of the relevant spatial angle for the visibility of the signal concept, in particular by the operating personnel of the rail-bound means of transport.
- two solid angles are preferably provided, namely for far vision and near vision.
- the near-vision solid angle can z. B. be realized by means of an additionally provided Nahstrepiegels.
- the basic system to be adopted can already be designed for the long-range and short-range representation of signal terms, for example, by a special optics at the bottom of the optical system for refraction or light scattering down, ie in the bottom direction.
- the reusability of the optical system in the suitability of the same for the far-range and the short-range representation of signal terms, for example by Nahstreuador or special optics, is particularly advantageous because of its high quality. It's just the replacement of the bulb by the semiconductor chip arrangement required.
- the housing possibly including near-scattering mirror, can be maintained.
- the luminous flux distribution of the semiconductor light source must correspond at least to the entrance clatter of the optical system designed for the filament arrangement.
- the physically induced luminous flux distribution of semiconductor light sources with a radiation range of a maximum of 180 ° has a particularly positive effect.
- the light utilization is much better than that of the incandescent lamp, which has a rotationally symmetrical luminous flux distribution, ie 360 ° around the filament axis.
- the actually utilized, ie relevant, luminous flux is that which, according to the aperture of the optical system, is focused by the optical system and into the distance vision area and possibly the near vision area is emitted.
- the directional emission angle of the semiconductor light sources together with their lower power consumption and longer service life, results in a cheaper and more effective replacement of the incandescent lamp. Changes in the emission profile of the light signal can be easily realized by changing the arrangement or exchange of semiconductor chips.
- the semiconductor chip arrangement is arranged in the focal point of the optical system and has a larger emission surface than the filament arrangement and / or a diffuser disc, or that the semiconductor chip arrangement is arranged slightly spaced from the focal point of the optical system.
- the uniformity of the image of the semiconductor light source becomes improved in the far field of the light signal.
- Either aberrations are deliberately created by misalignment from the focal plane, or a diffuser disc produces a light-mixing or scattering effect, or a large-area emitter is arranged at the focal point.
- the homogeneity of the illuminated far field can also be influenced by prisms, optical fibers, field lenses or the like.
- the semiconductor chip arrangement can have a plurality of semiconductor chips of different color, which can be supplied with current separately or together.
- the different color concepts are generated by color filter discs.
- the generation of the required coloring of the light signal for example red for stop signaling and green for cruise signaling, can advantageously also be realized in the semiconductor chip arrangement without light-absorbing color filter discs.
- the light signal is equipped with special color light emitting semiconductor chips, wherein the desired color is achieved by energizing the color-specific semiconductor chip arrangement.
- the physical property of the semiconductor materials is exploited to emit monochromatic light.
- individual colors can also be produced from individual, differently colored semiconductor chips.
- the function feedback by means of the photodetector not only allows the monitoring of the basic functions - on and off - but also a continuous monitoring of the light intensity. By simply comparing it with an intensity threshold, if it falls below a necessary replacement of the light source can be initiated before their complete failure.
- FIG. 1a shows a commonly used for railway light signals incandescent lamp 1 with coiled filament 2.
- the geometric and lighting properties of the filament 2 are in the FIGS. 1b) to 1g ) is modeled by light-emitting semiconductor chip arrangements. It is according to FIG. 1b ) a single large-area semiconductor chip 3 is provided. This can also be composed of a plurality of smaller semiconductor chips 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 according to variant 1c).

- Figure 1e are provided three spatially separated Halbleiterchis 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6, the light is brought together by optical waveguide 5 to an exit surface 6 in filament form.
- a prism 7 is provided instead of the optical waveguide 5 is according to FIG. 1f ) .
- Figure 1g shows a variant with two semiconductor chips 3.7 and 3.8, the light generated by oblique mirrors 8.1 and 8.2 and aperture 9 a glow filament-like spot.
- FIG. 2 shown conventional filament light signal consists essentially of the incandescent lamp 1 with the coiled filament 2 and a greatly simplified indicated optical system 10.
- a near-scattering mirror 11 is provided, which may be provided according to the intended use. It can be seen that the coiled filament 2 when viewed from the side has a rotationally symmetrical luminous flux distribution, which is indicated by arrows. Every smallest surface segment of the filament 2 emits luminous flux. The individual luminous fluxes are superimposed and impinge on the optical system 10. The luminous flux of the filament 2 relevant for the signal effect is that which strikes the optical system 10 and, if present, the near-scattering mirror 11 - indicated by puncturing. The near-scattering mirror 11 collects a part of the luminous flux emitted to the rear and reflects it back in the direction optical system 10, which radiates this luminous flux in the near range, whereby the nearsightedness of the light signal is improved.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a light signal with a designed for a filament assembly optical system for emitting the light in at least one solid angle, in particular for the presentation of signal terms in rail-bound traffic routes.
The following explanations relate essentially to illuminated signs or light signals for the representation of signal terms in rail-bound traffic routes, without the claimed inventive subject matter being restricted to this application.
In the case of known light signals, a filament arrangement of an incandescent lamp is predominantly used as the illuminant, the light of which is directed by means of an optical system into a defined solid angle for distant vision and frequently additionally a second defined solid angle for near vision. Light signals for railway safety systems usually form a complex system consisting of incandescent lamp, color wheel, lens system, cover glass and possibly an additional lens.
The complexity of the optical system is also due to the fact that as different attachment and observation points, curve radii of the rail and detection distances must be realized. A disadvantage of the use of filament arrangements as light sources is especially their relatively short life, which is also individually very different and hardly predictable. This can lead to failures that cause significant disruptions to the rail operation. Another disadvantage of the classic filament arrangement is that only a maximum of 5% of the energy used is converted into light, while the rest of the energy used evaporates as heat. Hallogen lamps work on the filament principle, but are a little more efficient.
The invention is therefore based on the object to provide a light signal of the generic type, which enables the further use of the existing optical system and also the essential components of the light signal and the housing without loss of optical quality.
According to the invention the object is achieved in that the filament arrangement by a light-emitting semiconductor chip assembly, in particular LED array, with filament-specific parameters, in particular with respect to geometric Dimensions, luminous flux level and luminous flux distribution, is replaced.
The invention is based on the finding that the geometry of the filament and its luminous flux characteristics can be reproduced by at least one latest-generation light-emitting semiconductor chip.
The high-quality optical system of proven design ensures optimum illumination of the relevant spatial angle for the visibility of the signal concept, in particular by the operating personnel of the rail-bound means of transport. In this case, two solid angles are preferably provided, namely for far vision and near vision. The near-vision solid angle can z. B. be realized by means of an additionally provided Nahstrepiegels. But even without near-scattering mirror, the basic system to be adopted can already be designed for the long-range and short-range representation of signal terms, for example, by a special optics at the bottom of the optical system for refraction or light scattering down, ie in the bottom direction. The reusability of the optical system in the suitability of the same for the far-range and the short-range representation of signal terms, for example by Nahstreuspiegel or special optics, is particularly advantageous because of its high quality. It's just the replacement of the bulb by the semiconductor chip arrangement required. In addition to the optical system and other essential components of the light signal, in particular the housing, possibly including near-scattering mirror, can be maintained.
- Replacement of the filament by a single semiconductor chip whose geometrical dimensions are similar to those of the filament,
- Arrangement of a plurality of semiconductor chips on a support member such that the spatial extent of the filament is approximately reached or
- Combining at least one semiconductor chip with at least one optical element, for example lens, optical waveguide, prism, mirror or the like in order to achieve the spatial extent of the filament by optical imaging.
These variants have in common that the luminous flux distribution of the semiconductor light source must correspond at least to the entrance clatter of the optical system designed for the filament arrangement. In this case, the physically induced luminous flux distribution of semiconductor light sources with a radiation range of a maximum of 180 ° has a particularly positive effect. The light utilization is much better than that of the incandescent lamp, which has a rotationally symmetrical luminous flux distribution, ie 360 ° around the filament axis. The actually utilized, ie relevant, luminous flux is that which, according to the aperture of the optical system, is focused by the optical system and into the distance vision area and possibly the near vision area is emitted. The directional emission angle of the semiconductor light sources, together with their lower power consumption and longer service life, results in a cheaper and more effective replacement of the incandescent lamp. Changes in the emission profile of the light signal can be easily realized by changing the arrangement or exchange of semiconductor chips.
- Additional semiconductor chips are placed in place of the near-scattering mirror, so that a near-scattering mirror can be completely eliminated,
- additional semiconductor chips are arranged so that they emit light towards the near-scattering mirror or
- by additional optical components such as mirrors, prisms and the like, a part of the light provided for filament simulation is redirected to the near-scattering mirror or directly into the near-vision region.
According to
According to claim 5, the semiconductor chip arrangement can have a plurality of semiconductor chips of different color, which can be supplied with current separately or together. In a conventional light signal with filament arrangement, the different color concepts are generated by color filter discs. The generation of the required coloring of the light signal, for example red for stop signaling and green for cruise signaling, can advantageously also be realized in the semiconductor chip arrangement without light-absorbing color filter discs. For this purpose, the light signal is equipped with special color light emitting semiconductor chips, wherein the desired color is achieved by energizing the color-specific semiconductor chip arrangement. In this case, the physical property of the semiconductor materials is exploited to emit monochromatic light. By means of light-mixing components, individual colors can also be produced from individual, differently colored semiconductor chips. Ultimately, by eliminating the color filter discs in conjunction with the reduced beam angle, a significant reduction of Störlichtanteilen and the associated glare can be achieved.
According to claim 6, at least one photodetector for measuring the luminous flux level of an emitted or, in particular by means of prism, mirror or optical waveguide, coupled out Luminous flux provided, wherein the output signal of the photodetector applied to a monitoring device. In this way, results in a simple function feedback to a signal box, so that due to the langelebigkeit the semiconductor chips anyway rare failure of the light signal can be detected immediately. In addition, the function feedback by means of the photodetector not only allows the monitoring of the basic functions - on and off - but also a continuous monitoring of the light intensity. By simply comparing it with an intensity threshold, if it falls below a necessary replacement of the light source can be initiated before their complete failure.
