Abstract

The invention relates to the arrangement of at least one antenna fixed to an anntenna carrier (10) and used for electromagnetic radiation, on a container wall (1) consisting of sheet metal and comprising ventilation openings (5) which are covered by a cover (3) for protecting against splashed water on the outer side of the container wall (1), said cover (3) creating a hollow space (6) in front of the ventilation openings (5). The invention is characterised in that the cover (3) consists of a plastic material, the antenna carrier (10) is fixed to the inner side (9) of the container wall (1), and the antenna (14) protrudes into the hollow space (6) through a ventilation opening (6).

Description

Arrangement of an antenna on a container

The invention relates to the arrangement of at least one fixed on an antenna carrier antenna for electromagnetic radiation of a group consisting of sheet steel container wall with ventilation openings which are covered with a protective against splash cover on the outside of the container wall, the cover forming a cavity in front of the ventilation openings.

For worldwide transport of semi-finished and finished products existing containers are usually made of sheet steel. The containers have a front page on lockable doors, which can also be specially protected. The walls of the containers are typically trapezoidal profiled for stabilization. The dimensions of the container are largely standardized. For sea transport, the containers are stackable, the stacking can be locked together. When rail and truck transport each individual containers are loaded.

To control the flow of materials from semi-finished products and finished products, it is necessary to track the transport route and the particular location of the containers. Expensive container contents must be monitored against theft or manipulation of the goods beyond. What is desired is a continuous possible monitoring or message at start of a container.

It is known the location of a container such as GPS (Global Positioning System) to determine and to report GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication). The location report may also contain information about an unauthorized opening of the container.

Electronic systems for positioning and message can be constructed in a robust and nearly maintenance-free and low-energy design, so that they are ready when equipped with modern batteries over a long period. A prerequisite for their detection function that they are largely protected against manipulation, destruction or loss of the container. During maintenance, they should furthermore be simple and easy to change. For signal reception and signal transmission have the systems on suitable antennas.

Known systems for location determination and monitoring of the container are designed as flat boxes closed with internal antennas. These boxes are mounted in suitable recesses outside of the container. The doors of the container can be assigned, which detect unauthorized opening of the door sensors. Other known systems are mounted on the door inner side with their antennas are led out of the sealing lips of the door leaves, or are incorporated into these.

From US 2004/0066328 A1 a device is known in which in a replaceable box a transmitting antenna with electronics is present. Internal systems require a guided outwardly antenna in any case, since the container walls form an almost perfect shield for electromagnetic radiation. The antennas located between the sealing lips of the door wings can be damaged at their outer ends with closed doors and are subjected to additional stresses during movement of the door leaf.

The invention was therefore based on the object to provide an arrangement of the antennas on the one hand protected against damage and interference from the outside, ensuring a reliable communication arranged in the interior of a container electronic systems for location determination and monitoring of the container contents with the outside world and the easier wise retrofitted and interchangeable.

This object is achieved with an arrangement of the type mentioned according to the invention characterized in that the cover is made of plastic, the antenna carrier is attached to the inside of the container wall, and the antenna protrudes through a ventilation opening into the cavity.

The invention utilizes the fact that standardized containers are each provided on at least one side wall with vents through which is possible to a temperature-induced pressure compensating the container volume to the exterior. The vents typically consist of a grid of holes with a diameter of about 8 mm. From the outside a protective against splash water, non-detachable cover is placed onto this grid. The cover forms a closed cavity with downward in the height and position offset webs arranged is protected against the ingress of water spray in front of the hole pattern. Including the cover with slits for the air inlet is provided. The cover is inserted into an inwardly facing profile segment of the container wall, so that it is protected against shocks during loading. The cavity in front of the ventilation openings has a height of about 2.5 cm.

Surprisingly, it has been found that the existing cavity in front of the ventilation holes with appropriate design and arrangement of the antenna carrier and the antenna shape sufficient to be able to produce a receiving and transmission transfer from the container interior to the outside. It must be taken only that the cover consists of plastic. The closing individual ventilation openings through the antenna arrangement does not affect the necessary pressure equalization.
