Bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Frühwarnsystem wird durch automatische Anrufe eines Zentralrechners eine Datenverbindung zwischen einem Zentralrechner und mindestens einem Fahrzeug aufgebaut. Diese Anrufe können beispielsweise nach einer im Zentralrechner programmierten Zeitabfolge ausgeführt werden. Vorzugsweise wird die Verbindung zur Datenübertragung hergestellt, wenn sich das Fahrzeug im Betrieb befindet. Die zu übertragenden Daten werden über ein Interface ohne lokale Zwischenspeicherung durch einen einmaligen Übertragungsvorgang in Echtzeit an den Zentralrechner übermittelt. Ein Zentralrechner stellt durch automatische Anrufe die Verbindung zu den Diagnosespeichern der in den Fahrzeugen integrierten Elektroniken her und vernetzt somit eine gesamte Fahrzeugflotte. Der Zentralrechner wertet die empfangenen Daten aus und speichert diese in einer Datenbank ab. Beim Überschreiten von vorprogrammierten Grenzwerten wird über den Zentralrechner eine Alarmmeldung ausgegeben, welche an eine technische Zentrale weitergeleitet wird. Eine Bedienungsperson der technischen Zentrale kann daraufhin physische Eingriffe an den Fahrzeugen auslösen, wodurch Fehlfunktionen von beispielsweise Fahrzeugsteuereinheiten oder -komponenten verhindert werden können. Weiterhin können über die technische Zentrale Fahrprogrammdaten modifiziert und telemetrisch in das entsprechende Steuergerät im Fahrzeug geflasht werden. Dies führt zu einer vorbeugenden Vermeidung von Schadensfällen in der Fahrzeugflotte aufgrund von aufgetretenen Fehlern oder Schäden im Einzelfahrzeug. Sind mehrere Fahrzeuge mit dem erfindungsgemäßen Frühwarnsystem ausgerüstet, werden die Fahrzeuge durch die automatischen Anrufe des Zentralrechners untereinander vernetzt, wodurch eine Fahrzeugflotte entsteht, deren Fahrzeugdaten durch den Zentralrechner ausgewertet werden können. Weiterhin können durch die erfindungsgemäße Lösung mehrere Fahrzeugflotten und mehrere Zentralrechner miteinander vernetzt werden, wobei eine Auswertung der Daten der einzelnen vernetzten Zentralrechner über einen weiteren Server erfolgen kann, wodurch neben dem Präventivservice für eine Fahrzeugflotte auch die statistische Erkennung und Verfolgung von Schadensmustern flottenübergreifend erfolgt. Ferner kann die technische Zentrale 5 Fahrprogrammdaten modifizieren und telemetrisch in das Steuergerät des Fahrzeugs 1 übertragen. Damit sind Präventiveingriffe im Fahrzeug 1 möglich, bevor erste Indikationen in der Fahrzeugelektronik erkannt werden. Dadurch können Schadensfälle, die in einer Fahrzeugflotte entstehen, bereits im Vorfeld bei anderen Fahrzeugflotten 6 vermieden werden.
