Description

Description A DISHWASHER
[1] The present invention relates to dishwashers wherein a program including the regeneration step is operated.
[2] A washing program comprised of various steps such as pre-washing, main washing, rinsing is employed in a dishwasher. In these machines, the washing and/or drying performance is inversely proportional to the hardness level of the water. As known, the hardness of water results from the positive calcium or magnesium ions (Ca++ and Mg++) dissolved in it. In order to decrease the hardness of water, the water used in washing is first passed through an ion exchanger, for example a resin. The ion exchanger receives these ions from the water and gives off sodium ions (Na+) instead. Consequently, the hardness of water is reduced. However, in time the ion exchanger cannot absorb the calcium and magnesium ions anymore. Therefore, from time to time the ion exchanger is kept in a salt (for example NaCl) solution to extract the calcium and magnesium ions and to increase its sodium ion concentration. This process is called regeneration. The salty water in which the ion exchanger is kept during the regeneration process, damages the metal washing tank of the dishwasher as a result of the corrosion. Therefore, the salty water is discharged out of the machine without being delivered into the tank. Furthermore, the ion exchanger is washed with some fresh water to cleanse all the remaining salt.
[3] In some cases, the user can cancel the washing program including the regeneration step by pushing the related button while the regeneration step is being carried out before the ion exchanger is washed. In this case, when the next washing program is operated, the risk of delivering salty water into the washing tank and thus damaging the tank arises.
[4] In the method described in state-of-the-art German patent no. DE4303628, if the a regeneration-including washing program is interrupted, the regeneration step is carried out before completion of a subsequently selected washing program.
[5] In another state-of-the-art document, the Great Britain patent no. GB2139084, if replenishing has been realized during a washing program, then the washing of the resin is performed just at the beginning of the next washing program.
[6] However, in state-of-the-art dishwashers, since the resin washing step is interrupted in case the washing program is cancelled, the salt stays in the machine until the next program. The metal components such as the heater can be corroded being in contact with the salt during this time interval.
[7] The object of the present invention is the realization of a dishwasher wherein the metal components in contact with the salt left inside are prevented from being damaged in case the regeneration step is interrupted.
[8] The dishwasher realized in order to fulfill the objective of the present invention is explicated in the attached claims. In the said dishwasher, when a washing program including a regeneration step is deliberately cancelled by the user during the regeneration step, the ion exchanger washing process is carried out before the machine fully stops. Accordingly, the salt is prevented from contacting with the metal components for a long time. This process is preferably carried out simultaneously with the process of discharging the water in the tank after the cancellation of the program. Consequently, an additional time period for washing the ion exchanger, prolonging the present or the next program is not necessary.
[9] The dishwasher realized in order to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
[10] Figure 1 - is the schematic view of a dishwasher.
[11] The parts illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
[12] 1. Dishwasher
[13] 2. Button
[14] 3. Control card
[15] 4. Washing chamber
[16] 5. Salt reservoir
[17] 6. Ion exchanger
[18] 7. Pump
[19] 8. Water valve
[20] 9. Regeneration valve
[21] The dishwasher (1) provides cleaning of the dishes in accordance with a washing program including at least some of the various steps like pre- washing, main washing, rinsing, drying, regeneration.
[22] The dishwasher (1) comprises:
[23] - a washing chamber (4) wherein the dishes to be washed are emplaced,
[24] - an ion exchanger (6) adapted to reduce the hardness of the water to be delivered into the washing chamber (4),
[25] - a salt reservoir (5) containing the salt required for the regeneration of the ion exchanger (6), being in communication with the ion exchanger (6) and,
[26] - at least one button (2) used in the selection of functions (Figure 1).
[27] The dishwasher (1) of the present invention provides the ion exchanger (6) containing a salt solution inside to be washed with water and cleansed of salt before the program is fully stopped in case a washing program including a regeneration step is cancelled by the user during the regeneration step. The user can cancel the washing program preferably by pressing on a button (2). This button (2) may also provide the machine to be turned on or off .
[28] The dishwasher (1) comprises a regeneration valve (9) situated between the salt reservoir (5) and the ion exchanger (6), a water valve (8) tallowing to take in water onto the ion exchanger (6), a pump (7) providing to discharge the water inside and a control card (3) that enables coordinating the various functions of the machine. The control card (3), while performing the regeneration step, is adapted first to open the water valve (9) to allow the water to pass through the salt reservoir (5) and as it passes to dissolve the salt, providing to fill in the ion exchanger (6) with the salt solution. Then the regeneration valve (9) is closed and the ion exchanger (6) is kept in the salty water for some time. Lastly, the water valve (8) is opened to wash the ion exchanger (6) with the fresh water intake from the main supply and the wash water is discharged out by the pump (7). If the user cancels the washing program during the regeneration step, while whichever process of opening the regeneration valve (9) or keeping the ion exchanger (6) in the salt solution is carried out, the control card (3) opens the water valve (8) to provide washing of the ion exchanger (6) and discharges the salty water by actuating the pump (7). If the user cancels the washing program during the last step wherein the ion exchanger (6) is washed by opening the water valve (8) the control card (3) provides the intake of sufficient amount of water and discharges the salty water by actuating the pump (7).
[29] In this embodiment of the present invention, if the regeneration step has already started when the user cancels the washing program, there is salt in the ion exchanger (6) delivered from the salt reservoir (5). When the user cancels the program by pressing on the button (2), the control card (3) does not stop the machine right away but first takes in some amount of fresh water, cleanses the ion exchanger (6) of the salt by passing this water over the ion exchanger (6). Accordingly, when the next washing program is started, the salt is prevented from mixing in the fresh water going through the ion exchanger (6), entering the washing chamber (4) and damaging the metal components. Furthermore, the salt is not kept in the ion exchanger (6) until the next washing program starts, eliminating the possibility of corroding the metal components due to the salt.
[30] In another embodiment of the present invention, the control card (3) employs the process of washing the ion exchanger (6) when the pump (7) is actuated while the water in the machine is being discharged. The process of washing the ion exchanger (6) is carried out simultaneously with discharge of water after each cancellation of a program, avoiding expenditure of extra time for this process.
[31] By means of the present invention, when the user cancels the program during the regeneration step, the salt is prevented from staying in the machine (1) until the next washing program and damaging the metal components. Consequently, the fresh water taken in at the next washing program is prevented from mixing with the undischarged salty water and washing performance is enhanced.
