Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a structure of a closure for a container, and more particularly, to a closure assembly for a container including an external cap and an internal cap coupled to the external cap to securely seal the container and be convenient for use.
- Paint, thinner, or water repellent is generally stored in a metal container. An internal cap made of plastic material is engaged to an outlet opening of the container, and an external cap made of metal is engaged to the outside of the outlet opening.

FIG. 1 is a perspective exploded view illustrating a conventional closure assembly for a container stored with a thinner. The closure assembly includes an outlet opening 11 formed on an upper portion of acontainer 10 with contents stored therein, aninternal cap 12 having apull ring 12a fitted into the outlet opening 11, and anexternal cap 13 threadedly engaged to the outside of the outlet opening 11 to enclose theinternal cap 12. - In case of using the contents, after the
external cap 13 is disengaged from the outlet opening 11, theinternal cap 12 is detached from the outlet opening 11 by pulling thepull ring 12a, so that the contents can be discharged from the outlet opening 11. -
FIG. 2 is a perspective exploded view illustrating a closure assembly for a container stored with a water repellent. The closure assembly includes an outlet opening 21 formed on an upper portion of acontainer 20, an internal cap 22 having apull ring 22a fitted into the outlet opening 21, anexternal cap 23 threadedly engaged to the outside of the outlet opening 21 and having a plurality ofnotches 23a formed on an outer periphery thereof, and aprotective member 24 coupled to the outside of theexternal cap 23 to prevent theexternal cap 23 from being arbitrarily disengaged from the outlet opening and having apull ring 24a. - After the
protective member 24 is disengaged from theexternal cap 23 by pulling thepull ring 24a, thenotches 23a formed on the edge of theexternal cap 23 are widened by pushing the upper center of theexternal cap 23 down, and theexternal cap 23 is disengaged from the outlet opening 21. Then, the inter cap 22 is detached from the outlet opening 21 by pulling thepull ring 22a, so that the contents can be discharged from the outlet opening 21. - The conventional closure assemblies have a disadvantage in that the operation of pulling the pull ring of the internal cap by a worker's hand with a glove on is inconvenient. In addition, the internal cap and the external cap are easily polluted due to the improper location where these caps are placed. Therefore, when the caps are again engaged to the outlet opening, the contents may be easily polluted, or the caps may be damaged or lost.

US 2004/0045965 A1 discloses a closure assembly in accordance with the preamble of claim 1. - Therefore, the present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems occurring in the prior art, and the object of the present invention is to provide a closure assembly for a container being capable of preventing an internal cap and an external cap from being lost, damaged or polluted, in which the internal cap and the external cap are easily engaged to or disengaged from an outlet opening of the container.
- In order to accomplish the above-mentioned objects, there is provided a closure assembly for a container as defined in claim 1 which comprises a container stored with contents and having an outlet opening formed on an upper portion thereof; a magnet-provided internal cap tightly fitted intro the outlet opening; an external cap engaged to an outside of the outlet opening; and a resilient coupling member formed on an upper portion of the internal cap and fixed to a bottom of the external cap.
- According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention the external cap has a plurality of notches formed on an outer periphery thereof whereby a protective member encloses the external cap.
- With the construction, since the external cap is coupled to the internal cap by the resilient coupling member, the internal cap and the external cap are easily engaged to or disengaged from the outlet opening of the container. In addition, the external cap can be attached onto the outside of the container by means of the magnet mounted in the internal cap, so that the internal and external caps are prevented from loss, pollution or damage.
- The above objects, other features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent by describing the preferred embodiments thereof with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

container 30 stored with contents, such as thinner, and aninternal cap 40 made of plastic material is tightly fitted into the outlet opening 31. Anexternal cap 50 made of metal is threadedly engaged to the outside of the outlet opening. - The
internal cap 40 includes amagnet 42 mounted in a receivingportion 41 that is formed on the upper portion of theinternal cap 40, and aresilient coupling member 43 provided on the upper portion of theinternal cap 40. - Front ends of the
coupling member 43 are fixed to the center portion of theexternal cap 50 by means of arivet 51. - In this embodiment, when the
external cap 50 is engaged to the outlet opening 31 of thecontainer 30, with theinternal cap 40 being coupled to theexternal cap 50 by means of thecoupling member 43 and therivet 51, as shown inFIG. 4 , theinternal cap 40 is fitted into the outlet opening 31 to sealingly close the outlet opening. Theexternal cap 50 is engaged to the outside of the outlet opening 31. - In case of releasing the
external cap 50 and theinternal cap 40 from the outlet opening 31, theexternal cap 50 is disengaged from the outlet opening 31 by rotating theexternal cap 50, as shown inFIG. 5 , and theexternal cap 50 is moved upwardly from the outlet opening 31 by the resiliency of thecoupling member 43. Theinternal cap 40 is detached from the outlet opening 31 by pulling theexternal cap 50 upwardly. - The disengaged external and
internal caps magnet 42, so that they are prevented from loss, pollution or damage. - It is not limited to the
coupling member 43 integrally formed on the upper portion of theinternal cap 40. For example, as shown inFIG. 6 , apull ring 44 is integrally formed with the upper surface of theinternal cap 40, and aseparate coupling member 43a having resiliency is coupled to thepull ring 44. The front ends of thecoupling member 43a are fixed to theexternal cap 50 by means of arivet 51. Consequently, when theexternal cap 50 is detached from the outlet opening, theexternal cap 50 is spaced apart from theinternal cap 40 at a desired interval by the resiliency of thepull ring 44 and thecoupling member 43a, so that theexternal cap 50 and theinternal cap 40 are easily detached from the outlet opening. -
FIGs. 7 to 10 illustrate a closure assembly for a container according to another embodiment of the present invention.FIG. 7 is a perspective exploded view illustrating the closure assembly for the container according to another embodiment of the present invention, andFIG. 8 is a cross-sectional view illustrating the engaged state of the closure assembly inFIG. 7 . - An outlet opening 71 is extended upwardly from the upper portion of a
container 70 stored with contents, such as water repellent, and aninternal cap 80 made of plastic material is tightly fitted into the outlet opening 71. Anexternal cap 90 made of metal is threadedly engaged to the outside of the outlet opening 71. Aprotective member 100 made of plastic material encloses theexternal cap 90. - The
internal cap 40 includes amagnet 82 mounted in a receivingportion 81 that is formed on the upper portion of theinternal cap 80, and aresilient coupling member 83 integrally provided on the upper portion of theinternal cap 80. Front ends of thecoupling member 83 are fixed to theexternal cap 90 by means of arivet 91. - The
external cap 90 has a plurality ofnotches 92 formed on the outer periphery thereof at regular intervals. - A
pull ring 101 is integrally formed on the upper portion of theprotective member 100. - In this embodiment, when the
external cap 90 is engaged to the outlet opening 71 of thecontainer 70, with theinternal cap 80 being coupled to theexternal cap 90 by means of thecoupling member 83 and therivet 91, as shown inFIG. 8 , theprotective member 100 is fitted to theexternal cap 90, and theinternal cap 80 is fitted into the outlet opening 71 to sealingly close the outlet opening. Theexternal cap 90 and theprotective member 100 are engaged to the outside of the outlet opening 71. - In case of releasing the
external cap 90 and theinternal cap 80 from the outlet opening 71, theprotective member 100 is detached from theexternal cap 90 by pulling thepull ring 101 upwardly. Thenotches 92 are resiliently widened by pushing the center of theexternal cap 90 down, as shown inFIG. 9 , and then theexternal cap 90 is disengaged from theoutlet opening 71. - In this instance, the
external cap 90 is moved upwardly from theoutlet opening 71 by the resiliency of thecoupling member 83. Theinternal cap 80 is detached from theoutlet opening 71 by pulling theexternal cap 90 upwardly. - The disengaged external and
internal caps magnet 82, so that they are prevented from loss, pollution or damage. - It is not limited to the
coupling member 83 integrally formed on the upper portion of theinternal cap 80. For example, as shown inFIG. 10 , apull ring 84 is integrally formed with the upper surface of theinternal cap 80, and aseparate coupling member 83a having resiliency is coupled to thepull ring 84. The front ends of thecoupling member 83a are fixed to theexternal cap 90 by means of arivet 91. Consequently, when theexternal cap 90 is detached from the outlet opening, theexternal cap 90 is spaced apart from theinternal cap 80 at a desired interval by the resiliency of thepull ring 84 and thecoupling member 83a, so that theexternal cap 90 and theinternal cap 80 are easily detached from the outlet opening. - The forgoing embodiments are merely exemplary and are not to be construed as limiting the present invention. The present teachings can be readily applied to other types of apparatus. The description of the present invention is intended to be illustrative, and not to limit the scope of the claims. Many alternatives, modifications, and variations will be apparent to those skilled in the art.
- As apparent from the above description, since the external cap is coupled to the internal cap by the resilient coupling member, the internal cap and the external cap are easily engaged to or disengaged from the outlet opening of the container. In addition, the external cap can be attached onto the outside of the container by means of the magnet mounted in the internal cap, so that the internal and external caps are prevented from loss, pollution or damage.
Claims (4)
- A closure assembly for a container, comprising:a container (30, 70) stored with contents and having an outlet opening (31, 81) formed on an upper portion thereof;an internal cap (40, 80) tightly fitted into the outlet opening (31, 81); an external cap (50, 90) engaged to an outside of the outlet opening; anda resilient coupling member (43, 83) and formed on an upper portion of the internal cap (40, 80) fixed to a bottom of the external cap (50, 90);characterized by the fact that the internal cap (40, 80) is provided with a receiving portion (41, 81) on a portion of the upper portion thereof, and a magnet (42, 82) is mounted in the receiving portion (41, 81).
- The closure assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the coupling member (43,83) is coupled to a pull ring (44,101) integrally formed on the upper portion of the internal cap (40, 80), and is fixed to the bottom of the external cap (50, 90).
- The closure assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein said external cap (90) has a plurality of notches (92) formed on an outer periphery thereof and said closure assembly comprises a protective member (100) enclosing the external cap(90).
- The closure assembly as claimed in claim 3, wherein the coupling member (83) is coupled to a pull ring (84) integrally formed on the upper portion of the internal cap (80), and is fixed to the bottom of the external cap (90).
