Description

  • The invention relates to an electronic timepiece and a method for assembling it.
  • The invention more particularly relates to an electronic timepiece comprising a housing which contains at least a first and a second electronic module electrically connected to each other and powered by a battery, in which the housing is formed by a middle part which is closed, in its upper part, by a protective glass placed above a display device and, in its lower part, by a cover attached to the housing.
  • The document US 2005/0253047 describes and represents a timepiece constituted by a wristwatch comprising horological functions such as the display of the time and auxiliary functions to the time display constituted by pulse measuring functions of the wearer of the shows. The watch functions and the control of the display of the watch are processed by an electronic circuit arranged on an upper printed circuit board which is fixed in the middle part. The pulse measurement functions are processed by an electronic circuit arranged on a lower printed circuit board which is fixed on the bottom of the cover.
  • In this type of timepiece, the assembly of the various components that are superimposed in the case is relatively delicate. It requires the provision of fixing means inside the housing which are specially adapted to a given configuration of the timepiece. When it is desired to replace an electronic module with another electronic module, it is necessary to modify the structure of the housing which poses problems of cost and flexibility on the production line.
  • Furthermore, the fastening systems that are provided in the housing are not completely satisfactory and some components, such as the battery, are not maintained sufficiently.
  • It has also been found that, when the battery is changed, the electronic modules are very exposed which can lead to deteriorations having a negative effect on the reliability of the timepiece.
  • The invention aims in particular to remedy these disadvantages by proposing a simple and economical solution.
  • For this purpose, the invention proposes a timepiece of the type described above, characterized in that the housing comprises an attached partition which is fixed on the middle part and which delimits, in the upper part of the case, an upper compartment containing the first electronic module and, in the lower part of the case, a lower compartment containing the second electronic module, and in that the stack is arranged in a complementary dwelling in the underside of the partition.
  • Thanks to the invention, the two electronic modules are better isolated from each other and they are better held in the housing. In addition, the battery is easier to change and its arrangement in the housing of the partition facilitates its electrical connection to the electronic modules.
  • Preferably, the second electronic module is constituted by a printed circuit board carrying electronic components and fixed on the inner face of the cover. The cover has a plurality of pins which are integral with the cover and extend vertically through associated holes in the printed circuit board. The printed circuit board is held vertically on the cover by a deformation of the free end of each tenon. This arrangement of the second electronic module on the cover facilitates both the assembly of the second electronic module in the housing and the change of the battery.
  • Advantageously, the first electronic module comprises a male connector which extends downwards through an associated window of the partition, and the second electronic module comprises a complementary female connector which extends upwards for the electrical connection of the two modules. e. The use of these connectors makes it possible to simplify the electrical connection of the second electronic module with the first electronic module, in particular by limiting the number of contact flanges required for this connection. A more reliable electrical connection between the two modules is also obtained and the number of assembly operations is reduced.
  • Preferably, the first electronic module comprises a printed circuit board which is fixed on the middle part and the male connector is fixed rigidly on the lower face of the printed circuit board. The first electronic module comprises the display device, a clock circuit, and a control circuit of the display, and the second electronic module is dedicated to auxiliary functions with hourly functions such as pulse measurement functions. A perfectly modular construction is thus obtained and it is possible to modify the second electronic module without modifying the first electronic module.
  • According to an advantageous embodiment, the clock circuit and the control circuit of the display are arranged on the printed circuit board. The device The display plate and the printed circuit board are attached to a spacer interposed between the display device and the printed circuit board to form the first electronic module. The spacer is attached to the middle part. With this embodiment, the assembly operations are facilitated, and the first electronic module is an assembly easier to handle. In addition, by keeping a spacer with an identical external peripheral structure, it is possible to modify the printed circuit board and the display device, without this requiring modification of the structure of the upper housing compartment.
  • Preferably, the display device is removably attached to the spacer by resilient interlocking, which allows a faster and simpler change of the elements constituting the display device, while maintaining the same spacer.
  • Advantageously, the bottom of the battery housing has orifices giving access to the test and / or programming zones of the first electronic module. Thus, the first electronic module is protected by the partition and it is possible to intervene on the first electronic module without dismantling the partition.
  • The partition extends generally over the entire surface of the middle part in a plane parallel to the general plane of the cover. The cover is fixed on the partition which is interposed axially between the middle part and the cover. A "sandwich" assembly is obtained which is easy to industrialize and which allows a good protection of the first electronic module when a battery change is made or where it is desired to operate on the second electronic module.
  • The invention also proposes a method of assembling a timepiece according to one of the preceding characteristics, characterized in that it comprises the following successive steps:
    • insertion of the first electronic module into the middle part,
    • fixing the partition on the middle part,
    • mounting the battery in a housing arranged on the underside of the partition,
    • fixing the cover carrying the second electronic module on the housing.
  • Advantageously, there is provided a step of fixing the second electronic module on the cover which comprises the following successive steps:
    • positioning the printed circuit board of the second electronic module on the tenons of the cover,
    • heat-sealing applied on the free ends of the tenons so as to create localized deformations retaining the printed circuit board against the inner face of the cover.
  • Other features and advantages of the present invention will appear more clearly on reading the detailed description which follows, made with reference to the accompanying drawings given by way of non-limiting example and in which:

  • In the remainder of the description, use will be made without limitation of an axial orientation in the vertical axial direction A1.
  • The housing 12 is formed by a generally circular middle part 20 which is closed, in its upper part, by a protective glass 22 placed above a display device 24 and, in its lower part, by an attached lid 26. on the housing 12.
  • The caseband 20, which extends generally in a horizontal plane, comprises, in its longitudinal end edges, horns 28, 30 for fastening the strands of a bracelet (not shown) and, in its edges, transverse end, push buttons 31 for manually controlling the timepiece 10.
  • In accordance with the teachings of the invention, the housing 12 has a partition 32 attached which is fixed on the middle part 20 and which delimits, in the upper part of the housing 12, an upper compartment 34 containing the first electronic module 14 and, in the part lower housing 12, a lower compartment 36 containing the second electronic module 16.
  • The battery 18 is arranged in the lower compartment 36, between the partition 32 and the second electronic module 16, in a complementary housing 38 arranged in the lower face 40 of the partition 32. Preferably, as shown in particular in FIGS. 7, the housing 38 is formed integral with the partition 32, here in the form of an axial skirt 41 having axial notches which facilitate the deformation of the axial skirt 41 radially outwardly to allow the insertion of the battery 18 in the housing 38. A fixing ring 42 is provided to fit on the external axial walls of the axial skirt 41, after the insertion of the battery 18, so as to retain the battery 18 in its housing 38. The bottom 43 of the housing 38 has orifices 45 which provide access to the test and / or programming zones of the first electronic module 14.
  • A preferred embodiment of the first electronic module 14 is shown in more detail in FIG.
  • The first electronic module 14 is constituted here by the assembly of a display device 24 with a first printed circuit board 44, an assembly spacer 46 being interposed axially between the display device 24 and the first board. printed circuits 44.
  • The spacer 46 here has the form of a generally rectangular frame which is received in a complementary manner in the upper compartment 34 of the housing 12 and which is fixed on the middle part 20. The spacer 46 comprises, in its upper part, hooks 48 elastic members which are provided to allow the elastic insertion of the display device 24 on the spacer 46, and it has, in its lower part, pins 50 which are received in holes 52 complementary to the first printed circuit board 44 for axially retaining the first printed circuit board 44 against the underside of the spacer 46.
  • The display device 24 is preferably constituted by a liquid crystal cell 54 of generally rectangular shape arranged above a backlighting device 56. The backlight device 56 here comprises, from top to bottom, a diffuser filter 58, a waveguide 60, a reflector filter 62, and a light-emitting diode 64 which is mounted on the upper face 66 of the first printed circuit board 44 so as to emit light beams into the interior of the guide. wave 60.
  • According to an advantageous embodiment, illustrated by FIGS. 3 and 4, the light-emitting diode 64 is arranged in a corner of the first printed circuit board 44, so that it is situated in a corresponding angle of the spacer 46. In this angle, the spacer 46 has generally vertical walls 65 which define a cell 67. The cell 67 is open downwards to allow the passage of the light-emitting diode 64 and is open upwards, opposite the input surface 69 of the waveguide 60 to allow the light rays to enter the waveguide 60.
  • This cell 67 constitutes a screen which prevents the light rays emitted by the light-emitting diode 64 from outside the waveguide 60 from propagating inside the middle part 20. This is particularly useful in the case where the middle part is made in a translucent material.
  • The first printed circuit board 44 comprises a clock circuit 68 and a control circuit 70 of the display which is electrically connected to the liquid crystal cell 54 via a flexible connector 72. The clock circuit 68 has a time base and it is intended for calculation of conventional horological functions such as current time, date, etc.
  • A male connector 74 is rigidly mounted on the lower face 76 of the first printed circuit board 44 so as to allow the electrical connection of the first electrical module 14 with the second electrical module 16 via a complementary female connector 78. All the electrical connections of the second electronic module 16 with the first electronic module 14 and with the battery 18 pass through this female connector 78.
  • The lower face 76 of the first printed circuit board 44 has electrical contact pads 79 which are arranged opposite the associated orifices 45 of the partition 32 and which constitute the test and / or programming zones of the first electronic module 14. These pads 79 allow for example to test the operation of the clock circuit 68 and the control circuit 70 of the display by means of an electronic test tool (not shown).
  • The second electrical module 16 is constituted here by a second printed circuit board 80 comprising electronic components dedicated to auxiliary functions at the time functions.
  • According to the exemplary embodiment shown in the figures, these auxiliary functions are constituted by functions related to the measurement of the pulse of the wearer of the watch. For this purpose, the second printed circuit board 80 comprises a pulse measuring unit 82 and a processing unit 84 of the pulse measurements which communicate the information to be displayed to the control circuit 70 of the display, in particular the value of the the wearer's pulse.
  • Of course, according to alternative embodiments (not shown) of the invention, the auxiliary functions may comprise different functions of the measurement of the pulse, for example altimeter, compass, satellite positioning, telephony functions, etc.
  • Advantageously, the second printed circuit board 80 is fixed on the inner face 86 of the cover 26. For this purpose, the cover 26 comprises several pins 88 which are made integrally with the cover 26 and which extend vertically through Associated holes 90 arranged in the second printed circuit board 80. The second printed circuit board 80 is held vertically against the cover 26 by a deformation of the free end of each post 88.
  • The female connector 78 is rigidly mounted on the upper face of the second printed circuit board 80 and extends vertically upwardly.
  • According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the cover 26 is fixed on the lower face 40 of the partition 32, so that the partition 32 is interposed axially between the middle part 20 and the cover 26. The cover 26 is here fixed by means of four screws 91 which pass vertically through the partition 32 to screw into tapped holes 93 of the middle part 20.
  • The partition 32 extends generally over the entire surface of the caseband 20 in a horizontal plane, between the horns 28, 30, so that the partition 32 covers the entire lower face 76 of the first printed circuit board.
  • The partition 32 has a window 92 vis-à-vis the male connector 74 which allows the male connector 74 to fit into the female connector 78 through the partition 32. Advantageously, the free end 94 of the male connector 74 is substantially flush vertically with the edge 96 of the window 92, which ensures a good protection of the male connector 74, when the cover 26 and the second electronic module 16 are removed.
  • Advantageously, the electrical connection of the first electronic module 14 to the battery 18 is achieved by means of two metal contact flanges 98 which are arranged in the first compartment 34, between the first printed circuit board 44 and the upper face 100 of the partition. 32, and which extend partially on the bottom 43 of the battery housing 38.
  • The push buttons 31 are provided with metal contact blades 102 which are arranged in the first compartment 34 between the outer peripheral edge 104 of the first printed circuit board 44 and the inner axial wall 106 of the middle part 20.
  • It is noted that all the small independent electrical connection elements, such as the contact flanges 98 and the contact blades 102, are arranged in the upper compartment 34. Thus, the electrical connection of the second electronic module 16 is simplified since all its electrical connections pass through the female connector 78. In addition, during the disassembly of the cover 26, for example to change the battery 18, there is no risk of component loss or misplacement of the contact flanges 98 and blades contact 102.
  • The timepiece 10 according to the invention benefits from good mechanical and electrical protection of the electronic modules 14, 16, in particular when the battery 18 is changed.
  • The method of assembling the timepiece 10 according to the invention is now described.
  • The first electronic module 14 is assembled beforehand, by mounting the display device 24, the backlighting device 56, and the first printed circuit board 44 on the spacer 46, then the first electronic module is inserted axially into the middle part. 20. The housing 12 is then in the configuration shown in FIG.
  • The contact flanges 98 and the contact blades 102 are then arranged in their respective positions against the first printed circuit board 44.
  • Then the partition 32 is mounted axially against the lower face of the middle part 20 and fixed, for example by gluing. The centering, in a horizontal plane, of the partition 32 with respect to the middle part 20 is obtained, for example, by means of centering pins 108 formed integrally with the partition 32.
  • The battery 18 is inserted into its housing 38 and held in position by the engagement of the fixing ring 42, as shown in FIG.
  • After fixing the second electronic module 16 on the cover 26, the cover is fixed on the partition 32 by means of the screws 91.
  • Preferably, the step of fixing the second electronic module 16 on the cover 26 comprises a positioning step during which the tenons 88 of the cover 26 are inserted axially into the corresponding holes 90 of the second printed circuit board 80. holes 90 are dimensioned to provide a radial clearance between each pin 88 and the inner edge of the corresponding hole 90 to allow a slight movement of the second printed circuit board 80 in a horizontal plane and thus facilitate the centering of the second plate to printed circuit boards 80 relative to the first printed circuit board 44 which is fixed. The final centering of the second printed circuit board 80 with respect to the first printed circuit board 44 is then determined by the interlocking of the male connector 74 in the female connector 78.
  • After this positioning step, the free end of each post 88 is deformed by heat input, which allows the attachment of the second printed circuit board 80 to the cover 26 by heat-sealing. At the end of the thermo-welding, the free end of each tenon 88 is flattened and forms a disc of diameter greater than the diameter of the associated hole 90.
