Definitions
- the present invention relates generally to a timepiece such as a wristwatch provided with a lighting device for illuminating an indicator element such as hands and / or indicia.
- the invention relates more particularly to a lighting device comprising an ultraviolet light-emitting diode for illuminating at least one zone integrating fluorescent pigments and / or phosphorescent of the indicator element to enhance the visibility of the latter in a dark environment.
- the document WO 2004/034153 discloses a watch comprising a light emitting diode (LED) emitting light in the ultraviolet (UV) spectrum and disposed on the inner periphery of the watch case, between the dial and the watch crystal.
- LED light emitting diode
- This LED is fixed in a groove by a transparent resin that lets in ultraviolet rays.
- a so-called “bright” material mixed with the transparent resin emits visible light.
- the dial and the hands, also equipped with this "luminous” material are illuminated by LED with both ultraviolet and visible light, making the reading of the time easier in a dark environment.
- This type of watch which associates an ultraviolet light source with a luminous material requires a supply of energy, for example in the form of electrical energy with a battery.
- the energy transformed by the LED in ultraviolet light will be largely dispersed, a portion of the ultraviolet rays escaping through the ice of the watch towards the eyes of the user, which presents a risk for the latter.
- the respective surface area of the dial hands and indexes is relatively small, only a limited amount of ultraviolet light will be converted into visible light by the "luminous" material, which in terms of efficiency and illumination is not satisfactory.
- the document JP 2003-248445 describes a watch provided with a source of ultraviolet light associated with a waveguide present under the dial of the watch.
- the latter is pierced with holes filled or not with a luminescent material that reacts with ultraviolet rays so as to emit visible light, but can also let the ultraviolet light pass through the dial.
- the use of a waveguide makes it possible to reduce losses by concentrating the ultraviolet light on the luminescent materials.
- the losses caused remain significant, the ultraviolet light which has not been transformed into visible light also partly escaping through the ice of the watch towards the eyes of the user.
- the lighting devices comprise an LED which does not allow a reading of the time in a dark environment satisfactorily.
- the use of a light source combined with so-called “bright” materials requires a supply of energy, most of the time done with an electric battery.
- the energy stored in the battery used to produce ultraviolet light is largely wasted: it is either absorbed by surfaces of the watch not provided with “bright” material, or dissipated through the ice of the watch, with the risks that this entails for the eyes of the user.
- an increase in the power and / or number of LEDs becomes necessary at the expense of energy consumption. The latter becoming too important, batteries must be recharged or replaced more frequently with all that entails as problems for the environment and waste recycling.
- One of the main aims of the present invention is to overcome the aforementioned disadvantages by optimizing the visibility of the indicator elements in a dark environment while ensuring a reasonable power consumption.
- it is intended to produce a timepiece according to the independent claim 1, namely a timepiece such as a wristwatch provided with an ice having an inner face and an outer face to the piece d watchmaking and a device illuminator comprising at least one ultraviolet light-emitting diode for illuminating at least one zone incorporating fluorescent and / or phosphorescent pigments of an indicator element visible through the ice, characterized in that the inner face of the ice is at least partially covered with a layer reflecting ultraviolet light on said area of the indicator element.
- FIGS. 1 to 4 in particular FIG. 2, in which are represented the main elements of the timepiece necessary for the understanding of the realization of this last according to the invention.
- the timepiece 1 described here is a wristwatch comprising a watch case 2, a mirror 3 closing it and a lighting device 4 for illuminating display means (FIGS. 1 and 2).
- the wristwatch 1 also includes other elements (not shown) necessary for its operation that we will not describe here, but which are well known to those skilled in the art.
- the display means generally comprise a dial 5 and elements indicators 6 arranged opposite or on it, such as needles 7 and indices 8. In the example shown, are present three hands 7 to indicate the hours, minutes and seconds respectively, but it is of course possible to provide any predetermined number of needles 7 to cover the indicator functions of the wristwatch 1.
- These needles 7, visible through the ice 3 of the wristwatch 1, comprise at least one zone 9 incorporating fluorescent pigments and / or phosphorescent.
- the dial 5 is provided with indices 8 indicating the hours, minutes and seconds, for example in the form of numbers, letters or any other predetermined sign; a predetermined number of indices 8 also comprising a zone 9 incorporating fluorescent pigments and / or phosphorescent.
- the wristwatch 1 advantageously comprises disposed on the side of the dial 5 at least one ultraviolet light-emitting diode 4a, or ultraviolet LED, for illuminating with ultraviolet light, or UV light, the zones 9 integrating the fluorescent pigments and / or phosphorescent needles 7 and indices 8.
- a manual or automatic control member is provided to activate the ultraviolet LED 4a.
- the fluorescent and / or phosphorescent zones 9 of the needles 7 and indices 8 are preferably formed by a translucent resin mixed with fluorescent and / or phosphorescent pigments, the latter reacting with the UV light so as to emit visible light.
- the needles 7 and the indicia 8 may for example be coated with this fluorescent and / or phosphorescent resin, have recessed regions filled by the latter or be partially formed in cooperation with a metallic or synthetic support material, or be also made entirely of the resin.
- This lighting device has the advantage of using a source of ultraviolet light is in the field of the invisible, which gives a certain aesthetic effect to the illumination of the needles or other indicator elements.
- the dial 5 of the wristwatch 1 forms a waveguide 10 which is able to diffuse the UV light upwards in a homogeneous and uniform manner.
- the ultraviolet LED 4a is preferably disposed on the side of the dial 5 to emit the UV light substantially in the plane of the waveguide 10, i.e. horizontally.
- the waveguide 10 may be provided on its underside with a reflector 11 for reflecting the UV light as well as microstructures 12 capable of driving the UV rays upward from the dial 5.
- the reflector 11 may be formed by a reflective layer or by a reflective piece attached to the waveguide 10.
- the microstructures 12 may according to their geometric disposition and their shape direct the UV rays towards the fluorescent zones 9 and / or phosphorescent concerned.
- the needles 7 and the indicia 8 are thus illuminated at the bottom, by means of the UV light coming from the dial 5. Thanks to the fluorescence and / or phosphorescence effect, this UV light is converted into visible light by going to through the fluorescent and / or phosphorescent resin of the needles 7 and indices 8 thus rendered luminous for the user.
- the parts of the dial 5 which are not obscured by the hands 7 and the indicia 8 also send UV light upwards towards the ice 3 of the wristwatch 1.
- the lighting device 4 so as to recover the UV light escaping upwards by reflecting it on the hands 7 and the indices 8 by the intermediary of the ice 3 of the wristwatch covered for this purpose on its inner face with a layer 14 reflecting the UV light and allowing the visible light to pass.
- Such layers 14 may be made, inter alia, by a coating based on nano-powders of zinc oxide (ZnO) or titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ). In this way, the illumination of the fluorescent and / or phosphorescent zones of the needles 7 and indices 8 by the UV light is enhanced by illumination from above in addition to that from below.
- Another beneficial effect of this device is to protect the eyes of the user, the UV rays can not cross the ice 3 of the wristwatch 1.
- the reflective layer 14 described above it is also provided advantageously to integrate in the thickness of the ice 3 UV-absorbing pigments for more security.
- the ultraviolet LED 4a is disposed under the dial 5 to, for example, limit the diameter of the wristwatch 1.
- the UV light of the diode 4a penetrates vertically into the waveguide 10 being directed essentially horizontally by means of a set of reflecting faces 15.
- the waveguide 10 may be provided with a reflector 11 of UV light covering at least partially its lower face and / or others of its faces and / or being in its thickness.
- a third embodiment provision is made alternately for the ultraviolet LED 4a to be positioned in a predetermined location inside the timepiece 1 to illuminate directly the indicator elements 6, advantageously between the dial 5 and the ice 3 in combination with another layer 16 reflecting the UV light at least partially covering the upper face of the dial 5.
- a lens 3 having a predetermined curvature so as to redirect the rays of ultraviolet light more particularly on the indicator elements 6.
- This predetermined curvature has for effect, still, to enhance the lighting and improve the contrast and increase the visibility of these indicators 6 in a dark environment.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates generally to a timepiece such as a wristwatch provided with a lighting device for illuminating an indicator element such as hands and / or indicia. The invention relates more particularly to a lighting device comprising an ultraviolet light-emitting diode for illuminating at least one zone integrating fluorescent pigments and / or phosphorescent of the indicator element to enhance the visibility of the latter in a dark environment.
It is already known in the prior art, watches whose dial and hands are illuminated by means of a source of ultraviolet light. Various areas of the dial and the needles are constituted or covered by a substance that reacts with ultraviolet light and returns the latter in visible light through the ice, thus making it possible to visualize said zones in a dark environment.
This type of watch which associates an ultraviolet light source with a luminous material requires a supply of energy, for example in the form of electrical energy with a battery. The energy transformed by the LED in ultraviolet light will be largely dispersed, a portion of the ultraviolet rays escaping through the ice of the watch towards the eyes of the user, which presents a risk for the latter. In addition, since the respective surface area of the dial hands and indexes is relatively small, only a limited amount of ultraviolet light will be converted into visible light by the "luminous" material, which in terms of efficiency and illumination is not satisfactory.
In this type of watch, the use of a waveguide makes it possible to reduce losses by concentrating the ultraviolet light on the luminescent materials. However, the losses caused remain significant, the ultraviolet light which has not been transformed into visible light also partly escaping through the ice of the watch towards the eyes of the user.
In all the cases mentioned above, the lighting devices comprise an LED which does not allow a reading of the time in a dark environment satisfactorily. The use of a light source combined with so-called "bright" materials requires a supply of energy, most of the time done with an electric battery. The energy stored in the battery used to produce ultraviolet light is largely wasted: it is either absorbed by surfaces of the watch not provided with "bright" material, or dissipated through the ice of the watch, with the risks that this entails for the eyes of the user. To achieve the desired effect and improve the reading of the time in a dark environment, an increase in the power and / or number of LEDs becomes necessary at the expense of energy consumption. The latter becoming too important, batteries must be recharged or replaced more frequently with all that entails as problems for the environment and waste recycling.
One of the main aims of the present invention is to overcome the aforementioned disadvantages by optimizing the visibility of the indicator elements in a dark environment while ensuring a reasonable power consumption. For this purpose, it is intended to produce a timepiece according to the independent claim 1, namely a timepiece such as a wristwatch provided with an ice having an inner face and an outer face to the piece d watchmaking and a device illuminator comprising at least one ultraviolet light-emitting diode for illuminating at least one zone incorporating fluorescent and / or phosphorescent pigments of an indicator element visible through the ice, characterized in that the inner face of the ice is at least partially covered with a layer reflecting ultraviolet light on said area of the indicator element.
Advantageous embodiments of the timepiece according to the invention are described in the context of the dependent claims.

The following description is given solely by way of example and refers to FIGS. 1 to 4, in particular FIG. 2, in which are represented the main elements of the timepiece necessary for the understanding of the realization of this last according to the invention.
The timepiece 1 described here is a wristwatch comprising a
In this advantageous mode, the
According to a second embodiment (FIG. 3), provision is made alternately for the
According to a third embodiment (FIG. 4), provision is made alternately for the
According to a fourth embodiment combinable with any one of the three previous embodiments presented above, it is advantageously provided a
According to a fifth embodiment, provision is furthermore made to add a decorative element to the dial, placed on the upper face of the waveguide, advantageously in the form of a coating comprising transparent or semi-transparent zones to UV light said zones being opaque to visible light, preferably of different colors, the coating being in the form of lacquers, paints or other printing processes. It is also planned to produce this coating in the form of a grid provided with a multitude of holes, invisible to the naked eye, allowing a predetermined percentage of UV light to pass through; for example by screen printing, lithography, inkjet or laser drilling.
It will be understood that various modifications and / or improvements obvious to those skilled in the art can be made to the timepiece according to the invention described above without departing from the scope of the invention defined by the appended claims. It is also possible to provide, for example, a combination of certain characteristics of the five embodiments described above. In particular, it is conceivable to provide that inside the wristwatch others of its constituents are provided with layers or reflectors reflecting UV light on the indicator elements, it is particularly thought to the
In addition, it is also possible to consider the use of a light emitting diode emitting blue light, or blue LED, which allows fluorescence and / or phosphorescence to emit green light, yellow, orange or red. In this embodiment, it is possible to at least partially cover the inner face of the ice of the timepiece with a layer reflecting blue light, which generally gives the ice a smoky appearance in daylight. .
