Claims (64)

  1. An applicator (3) for applying a composition to at least one of eyelashes and eyebrows, the applicator comprising:
    - a stem (8); and
    - an applicator member (10) at one end of the stem, the applicator member comprising:
    - a support (11) that comprises plastics material, and that is elongate along a longitudinal axis, the support being connected at a proximal end to the stem (8), the support comprising only two branches (12, 13) that extend along the longitudinal axis (X) of the support, the only two branches connected to one another to define a distal end of the applicator member and a single through-opening (19) between the only two branches, and the only two branches together defining a greatest width (W) of the support; and
    - each branch (12, 13) of the support comprising at least one row (20, 21) of applicator elements (23), each of the rows comprising applicator elements which, over at least half of their length, extend other than over the through-opening (19), at least one applicator element of a row extending completely other than over the opening, the support being observed from above, along the normal to a plane of the opening.
  2. The applicator according to claim 1, wherein the branches (12, 13) are connected at their ends.
  3. The applicator according to one of the preceding claims, wherein the through-opening (19) is substantially planar.
  4. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the through-opening is substantially a same shape as an outline of the support.
  5. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the distal end and the proximal end of the support (11) is tapered.
  6. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the support (11) is at least 1.5 times longer than wide.
  7. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the applicator elements (23) comprise a same material as the only two branches (12,13).
  8. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein at least a fraction of the applicator elements comprises a material that is different from a material of the only two branches.
  9. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the support (11) is fitted onto the stem (8).
  10. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the support (11) is monolithic with the stem (8).
  11. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the stem (8) is connected, at an end remote from the support, to a closure cap (9) configured to close in a leaktight manner, a receptacle (2) containing the composition (P) for application.
  12. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the stem (8) includes a longitudinal axis (Y) that coincides with the longitudinal axis (X) of the support (11).
  13. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein all of the applicator elements extend on one side only of the support.
  14. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the applicator elements (33, 34; 40, 41) extend on two opposite sides of the support.
  15. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 12, wherein at least one branch includes at least two rows of applicator elements that extend on respective opposite faces of the support.
  16. The applicator according to claim 1, wherein a maximum length (L) of the through-opening (19) is not greater than 35 mm, preferably from 26 to 28 mm.
  17. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a maximum width (l) of the through-opening (19) is not greater than 10 mm, preferably from 1 to 10 mm, better still from 2 to 3 mm.
  18. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein an entirety of the support (11) comprises a rigid plastics material.
  19. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 17, wherein an entirety of the support comprises at least one of an elastomer and a flexible material.
  20. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 17, wherein the support comprises at least one of PET, POM, PA, PS, PP, and PE.
  21. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 17, wherein the support comprises at least one of silicone, nitrile, EPDM, EVA, PVC, PU, latex, butyl, or thermoplastic elastomers such as HYTREL®, PEBAX® or SANTOPRENE®.
  22. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein an axis (Z) of at least one row of applicator elements extending along a branch of the support is rectilinear.
  23. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 21, wherein an axis of at least one row of applicator elements extending along a branch of the support is curvilinear, in particular outwardly concave or convex.
  24. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 21, wherein an axis of at least one row of applicator elements extending along a branch of the support is sinuous.
  25. The applicator according to claim 2, wherein each of the applicator elements (23) of at least one row extends in a direction that is substantially parallel to a normal (N) to a plane of the through-opening (19).
  26. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the applicator elements of the respective branches are different.
  27. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the branches includes rows including respective different applicator elements.
  28. The applicator according to claim 3, wherein at least one applicator element of at least one row extends forming a non-zero angle (α; β) to a normal (N) to a plane of the through-opening (19).
  29. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least a plurality of consecutive applicator elements of a row are disposed in a staggered configuration.
  30. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein two consecutive applicator elements of a row form a V shape.
  31. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a plurality of consecutive applicator elements of a row extend, at least in part, in alternation on either side of a geometrical dividing surface (S).
  32. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 31, wherein at least two applicator elements of a row include touching bases.
  33. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 31, wherein at least two consecutive applicator elements of a row include spaced-apart bases.
  34. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least two consecutive applicator elements of a row form a V-shaped groove therebetween when the applicator element is observed along a direction that is substantially perpendicular to an axis of the row.
  35. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least three consecutive elements of a row are evenly spaced along an axis of said row.
  36. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least three consecutive elements of a row are unevenly spaced along an axis of said row.
  37. The applicator according to claim 1, wherein the applicator member includes at least a first row of applicator elements, and a second row of applicator elements, the first row comprising at least three applicator elements following one another at a first spacing, and the second row comprising at least three applicator elements following one another at a second spacing.
  38. The applicator according to claim 37, wherein the first spacing is equal to the second spacing.
  39. The applicator according to claim 37, wherein the first spacing is different from the second spacing.
  40. The applicator according to one of claims 37 to 39, wherein the first and second rows are carried by a common branch of the support, being respectively disposed on opposite faces of the branch.
  41. The applicator according to one of claims 37 to 39, wherein the first and second rows are carried by two different branches of the support.
  42. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one applicator element of a row is connected substantially perpendicularly to the corresponding branch.
  43. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a length of the applicator elements of a row lies in a range of about 1 mm to about 10 mm, better still between about 2 mm to about 8 mm, in particular 3 mm to 6 mm.
  44. The applicator according to any one of claims 1 to 43, wherein at least two consecutive applicator elements of a row cross over each other when the applicator member is observed along a direction that is substantially perpendicular to an axis of the row.
  45. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the only two branches includes applicator elements on an outer periphery thereof.
  46. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the only two branches includes applicator elements on two opposite faces of the support.
  47. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the only two branches includes two rows of applicator elements on two different faces of the branch.
  48. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the only two branches includes three rows of applicator elements.
  49. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of the support and/or the applicator elements include magnetic particles.
  50. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the applicator member includes an outline that is smooth when the applicator member is observed along to a normal (N) to a plane of the through-opening (19).
  51. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a length of the applicator member is over 20 mm.
  52. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each of the rows comprises applicator elements which do not extend at all over the through-opening.
  53. The applicator according to any one of the preceding claims, the applicator elements having an elongate shape, in particular in the shape of a cylindrical spur, with a circular or non-circular, conical, frusticonal or pyramidal section.
  54. A packaging and applicator device (1) for a makeup and a care product for application to at least one of eyelashes and eyebrows, the device comprising:
    - an applicator (3) as defined in any one of the preceding claims,
    - the composition (P) to be applied to eyelashes and/or eyebrows.
  55. The device according to the preceding claim, further comprising a receptacle (2) containing said composition.
  56. The device according to the preceding claim, wherein the receptacle includes a wiper member (6), in particular an elastomer wiper member.
  57. The device according to the preceding claim, wherein the applicator member and the wiper member are configured such that the applicator member deforms on passing through the wiper member.
  58. The device according to claim 56, wherein the applicator member and the wiper member are configured such that the applicator member does not deform on passing through the wiper member.
  59. The device according to claim 56, the wiper member including an undulating lip able to deploy through the applicator member.
  60. A method of applying a composition to the eyelashes and/or eyebrows, the method comprising:
    - loading the applicator member of the applicator as defined in any one of claims 1 to 53 with composition;
    - applying the composition to the eyelashes and/or eyebrows.
  61. The method according to the preceding claim, wherein the applicator member is loaded with composition such that the through-opening (19) is completely filed with composition.
  62. The method according to claim 60, wherein the applicator member is loaded with composition without the through-opening being completely filled with composition.
  63. The method according to one of the two immediately preceding claims, wherein each branch of the only two branches carries at least one row of applicator elements, and wherein the applicator elements belonging to both rows are brought into contact with the eyelashes simultaneously,
  64. The method according to any one of claims 60 to 63, wherein the stem is subjected to vibration.
