- the filtrate was extracted with EtOAc (3 10 mL), and the combined organic extracts were washed with 10% NH OH (aq) until the persistent blue color vanished from the organic phase.

- Potassium tert-butoxide (0.5 g, 4 mmol) was suspended in 16 mL of tert-butylmethyl ether (TBME). After cooling at -78 °C, the well stirred mixture was treated with tert- butyllithium (3 mL, 4 mmol) over 2 min. A bright orange color was observed and stirring at ⁇ 78 °C was continued for 2 h. A solution of CuBr»SMe 2 (0 4 g, 2 mmol) in isopropyl sulfide (3 mL) and TBME (5 mL) was slowly added. The resulting cuprate solution was stirred at - 78 °C for 40 min.
