Abstract

The base for absorbing liquids issuing from meat and poultry products comprises an absorptive core containing a superabsorbent material in the form of fibers.

Description

The invention relates to a suction pad for meat and poultry products for absorbing spilled from these products liquids having the features of the preamble of claim 1.

Such referred to as meat tray pad absorbent pads are for example from the GB-A 2325195 are known and used together with the meat trays, so the meat shells for selling portioned meat or poultry products especially at self-service counters, the suction pad in particular has the task to absorb any leaking from the meat or poultry products liquids completely, for a to make the product last longer by preventing microbial growth on the outside of the meat and, on the other hand, to optimize the appearance of the product over time.

It is in the art, for example, from DE 689 24 982 The invention relates to absorbent pads which have improved absorbency by using not only the cellulosic fibers to absorb the liquids, but also a powdered and particulate superabsorbent attached to the cellulosic fibers whose absorbency is that of cellulose far surpasses. However, these known superabsorbent particles have the disadvantage that on the one hand they can not be distributed uniformly over the surface of the absorbent core with sufficient accuracy, since they more or less randomly stick to the fibers of the absorbent core or fall through between these fibers, In this case leave their agreed range and they can sometimes even fall out of the absorbent core.

In addition, when calendering the absorbent pad, that is, when introducing impressions in the prior art, there is a risk that the superabsorbent grains or crystals adhered to the cellulose fibers will be punched by the adjacent foil and damage it. This disadvantage is at the out of the GB-A 2325195 known absorbent pad with Superabsorbensfasern avoided. These have the advantage that, after introduction into the fiber mixture of the absorbent core, the fibers barely move away from their original position and thus remain evenly distributed over the entire volume of the absorbent core. This is because the superabsorbent fibers behave like the cellulose fibers (for example in the airlaid vacuum suction) due to their structure corresponding to the cellulose fibers and can be easily and permanently mixed with them. In this case, the superabsorbent fibers can also be positioned closer to the surface of the absorbent core, which further improves the absorption behavior.

In addition, the superabsorbent fibers are pressed during calendering with the remaining fiber mixture and hinder the embossing process in any way due to the - compared with the superabsorbent crystals - comparatively small cross-section (about one tenth). On the contrary, the embossing or calendering of the absorbent pad containing the superabsorbent fibers provides for improved absorption behavior by faster absorbing the liquid in the calendered areas and distributing it into the unsaturated zones.

However, the advantage of said absorbent pad also means a significant disadvantage: The superabsorbent fibers extend into the compressed edge area and thus also absorb fluid laterally over this edge area, which leads to a softening of the edge. As a result, the edge area is always moist and this moisture can thus get back over the edge in contact with the meat and poultry products.

On this basis, the object of the present invention is to provide a suction pad for meat or poultry products, which avoids the disadvantages of the prior art. This object is achieved by the features of claim 1.

With regard to the design of the absorbent pad is proposed according to the invention that the two films of the absorbent pad are connected to each other at their peripheral edges together, as for example, already from the EP-A 1285881 is known and what can be done in particular by embossing or gluing. As a result, the peripheral edges of the two foils form a region which seals off the absorbent core in the absorbent core plane to the outside, thereby ensuring that the liquid absorbed by the absorbent core can not flow out laterally from the absorbent backing.

As a result, the absorbent pad with the exception of any liquid-permeable openings in one or both foils is closed on all sides and does not give the once absorbed liquid in use again. In this case, according to the invention, the foil to be turned over to the meat or poultry product is self-contained, so that the respective product can not come into contact with the absorbed liquid (or with the liquid inside the absorbent pad). Moreover, the foil to be averted from the meat or poultry product is emipermeable, liquid-permeable, in particular provided with perforations (for example of cup-shaped cross-section) and / or made of absorbent-permeable material (e.g., a nonwoven) to receive the liquid present between the absorbent pad and the meat dish.

Both films are made in particular of polyethylene and are connected at their edges thermally, chemically, by embossing and / or by gluing together.

As regards the exact structure or composition of the superabsorbent, the superabsorbent fiber advantageously consists of absorbent acrylic polymer, which in particular partially neutralizes by sodium salt is. A recommendable product is, for example, the fibrous superabsorbent OASIS type 101/6/10.

With regard to the composition of the absorbent core, it is also recommended that, in addition to cellulose fibers and the fibrous superabsorbent / Z, thermoplastic fibers are provided and that the cellulose fibers and the thermoplastic fibers are not interwoven and attached to each other. Instead of (and optionally additionally) the thermoplastic fibers, however, a tissue tissue can also be arranged parallel to the absorbent core.

Further features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description of an embodiment with reference to the drawings; show here
FIG. 1
a suction pad in a schematic plan view;
FIG. 2
the structure of the absorbent pad according to the invention FIG. 1 in a schematic side view; and
FIG. 3
a schematic representation of the distribution of superabsorbent fibers and cellulose fibers.

In the FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 illustrated absorbent pad 1 consists of two rectangular polyethylene films 2, 3, wherein the later serving as the top and the meat product facing film 2 is completely closed and the later forming the bottom of the absorbent pad film 3, which faces away from the meat product and to hang up on the meat dish is used, perforations, perforations etc semipermeable liquid-permeable executed.

Between the two films, a suction core 4 is arranged, which consists of a pillow-shaped fiber tangle with at least superabsorbent fibers 11 and cellulose fibers 12 (see FIG. 3 ), which are arranged distributed uniformly over the pillow-shaped absorbent core 4.

- wie im in Figur 2 dargestellten Beispiel - eine Gewebelage, ein sogenanntes Tissue 5 in dem Beispiel gemäß Figur 2 ist zwischen Tissue 5 und Saugkern 4 sowie zwischen Saugkern 4 und Folie 3 jeweils eine Klebstoffschicht 6, 7 angeordnetIn addition, thermoplastic fibers may be provided or - as in in FIG. 2 illustrated example - a fabric layer, a so-called tissue 5 in the example according to FIG. 2 is between tissue 5 and absorbent core 4 and between the absorbent core 4 and 3 film each an adhesive layer 6, 7 are arranged

The two outer foils 2, 3 are fixed together along their peripheral edges ( FIG. 2 shows the manufacturing intermediate step before setting), which is done in particular by embossing or gluing. As a result, the two circumferential edges 8, 9 of the two foils form a region which seals off the absorbent core in the absorbent core plane to the outside, thereby ensuring that the liquid absorbed by the absorbent core does not come out (laterally) the absorbent pad can flow out (unless it would leave the absorbent pad through the perforations of the film 3, but this is prevented due to the semipermeability of the film).

In FIG. 1 Finally, it can be seen how the absorbent pad 1 in the inner region, ie within the peripheral edges 8, 9 is executed calendered, that is with a surface embossing, in the case of FIG. 1 Honeycomb shape possesses. In the embossing area, the guiding effect of the fibers is improved and a certain suction effect is produced in the non-compressed areas. Of course, the calendered region 10 may also have a different structure.

How out FIG. 3 It is not difficult to see that the essential advantages of the superabsorbent fibers 11 are that they occupy an almost invariable position in the fiber entanglement of the cellulose fibers 12 because of their structural similarity with the cellulose fibers, since they are generally longer than the cellulose fibers. Fibers 12 or as the distance between two cellulose fibers and thereby can not fall through the fiber tangle. In addition, shows FIG. 3 It is clear that the cellulose fiber need not be adhered to the cellulose fibers via an additional adhesive such as the known superabsorbent powder granules, but that they remain alone in the assumed position. As a result, the superabsorbent fibers can not fall out of the absorbent pad (not even if the pad would be open to the outside, so the film edges would not be connected).

In summary, the present invention offers the advantage of providing a suction pad for meat products, which is characterized by particularly good absorbency, by uniform distribution of the superabsorbent within the absorbent core and by maintaining the position of the superabsorbent.
