Claims (35)

  1. An electrical connection element (10; 10'), in particular a power connection socket or mobile connection, which is intended to co-operate by plugging engagement with a complementary electrical connection element (14), in particular a power connection plug, and which comprises a body (11; 11') internally forming a well (12) for accommodating electrical contact members, a flap (16; 16') pivotably mounted to the body (11; 11') to cover the well (12) when it is in a position of being pivoted down thereonto, a sealing gasket (20; 20') of deformable elastic material operatively disposed between the flap (16; 16') and the body (11; 11') in the downwardly pivoted position, a torsion spring (19) continuously urging the flap (16; 16') into the downwardly pivoted position, rotational clamping means (23, 25; 23') operatively disposed between the flap (16; 16') and the body (11; 11') to act in compression relationship on the sealing gasket (20; 20') when it is operatively disposed between the flap (16; 16') and the body (11; 11') in the downwardly pivoted position, characterised in that the sealing gasket (20; 20') is made of a material with a low resistance to deformation stresses, that the electrical connection element (10; 10') further comprises disengageable securing means (45, 46; 45', 46') operatively disposed between the flap (16; 16') and the body (11; 11') and capable of ensuring co-operation in retaining relationship of the flap (16; 16') on the body (11; 11') when they are not in engagement with each other by way of the clamping means (23, 25; 23'), and that the spring (19) has a torsional torque capable of bringing the securing means (45, 46; 45', 46') into mutual engagement for the co-operation in retaining relationship of the flap (16; 16') on the body (11, 11') and then maintaining in a compressed condition the sealing gasket (20; 20') between the flap (16; 16') and the body (11; 11') jointly with the securing means (45, 46; 45', 46').
  2. An electrical connection element according to claim 1 characterised in that the sealing gasket is characterised by a Shore 00 hardness of 40 at a maximum.
  3. An electrical connection element according to claim 1 or claim 2 characterised in that the sealing gasket has a resistance to compression to 25% of 35 kPa at a maximum and to 50% of 120 kPa at a maximum.
  4. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 3 characterised in that the sealing gasket has a residual deformation at compression of less than or equal to 25% for 22 hours at 23°C and less than or equal to 60% for 22 hours at 40°C.
  5. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 4 characterised in that the sealing gasket is of rubber of sealing cellular structure.
  6. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 5 characterised in that the sealing gasket is a flat gasket which is in the form of a solid or apertured disc fitted to the flap, preferably by glueing or adhesivation.
  7. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 6 characterised in that the disengageable securing means comprise on the flap (16; 16') at least one elastically deformable latching lug (45; 45') which is generally shaped in the form of a hook and jointly on the body (11; 11') a catch (46; 46') under which the front of the latching lug of the flap is engaged to co-operate in hooking relationship with said catch on the body.
  8. An electrical connection element according to claim 7 characterised in that the disengageable securing means comprise two latching lugs arranged in practically diametrally mutually opposite relationship and jointly the body comprises two catches with one catch per latching lug on the flap.
  9. An electrical connection element according to claim 7 or claim 8 characterised in that in accordance with the hook configuration each latching lug comprises a leg portion (47) and at the free end thereof a projection portion (48) forming a catch (49) which extends substantially transversely with respect to the leg portion (47) and which is capable of co-operating in hooking relationship with the catch (46) defined by the body (11) and with which the latching lug (45) is associated.
  10. An electrical connection element according to claim 9 characterised in that the catch (49) of each latching lug (45) is preceded by an inclined engagement chamfer (52).
  11. An electrical connection element according to claim 10 characterised in that the latching catch (46) of the body (11) is preceded by an inclined engagement chamfer (51) capable of co-operating with the inclined chamfer (52) of the latching lug (45) with which the catch (46) is associated.
  12. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 11 characterised in that the clamping means are in the form of a quick-action locking system of bayonet type comprising on the body (11) externally thereto and around a part of the contour of the well (12) at least one rib (26) extending radially from the body (11) and of which the shoulder surface which is distal with respect to the mouth opening of the well (12) forms a clamping ramp (25) and jointly on the flap (16) a locking ring (23) mounted rotatably on the flap (16) and comprising at least one ear (24) intended to co-operate in clamping relationship with a clamping ramp (25) associated therewith.
  13. An electrical connection element according to claim 7 or claim 11 in conjunction with claim 12 characterised in that each latching catch of the body is provided in a rib defining a clamping ramp.
  14. An electrical connection element according to claim 12 or claim 13 characterised in that the locking ring comprises a generally cylindrical skirt (27) which is in one piece with a flange (28) which is set back in right-angled relationship and by way of which the ring (23) is mounted rotatably on the flap (16).
  15. An electrical connection element according to claim 14 characterised in that the flap is in two parts which are latched into each other and between which the flange (28) of the locking ring (23) is gripped for rotational mounting thereof on the flap (16).
  16. An electrical connection element according to claim 14 characterised in that the flap (16') is made in one piece and comprises a generally cylindrical rear part (29'a) and a flange (29'b) extending radially in outwardly projecting relationship from the mouth opening of said rear part (29'a).
  17. An electrical connection element according to claim 16 characterised in that the sealing gasket (20') is in the form of an apertured disc and is fitted on to the flange (29'b), preferably by glueing or adhesivation.
  18. An electrical connection element according to claim 16 or claim 17 characterised in that the latching lug or lugs (45') are each in one piece with the flange (29'b) and extend substantially transversely with respect thereto.
  19. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 16 to 18 characterised in that an annular rib for axial retention of the locking ring (23') projects form the flap (16') at the end of the generally cylindrical rear part (29'a) that is opposite to that prolonged by the flange (29'b).
  20. An electrical connection element according to claim 19 characterised in that the annular rib is in one piece with the flap (16'), being moulded integrally therewith.
  21. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 20 characterised in that the flap (16; 16') comprises a retaining lug portion (32; 32') which projects from the side thereof having the sealing gasket (20; 20') and which extends substantially transversely with respect to the flap (16; 16') in a zone diametrally opposite with respect to the pivotal mounting zone of the flap (16; 16') to the body (11; 11').
  22. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 21 characterised in that it is in the form of a power connection socket and it comprises on the one hand a recess support (13) which comprises a plurality of mutually insulated recesses and which is mounted rotatably in the body (11) between two extreme angular positions, one being a cut-off position and the other a closure position, and on the other hand connecting terminals which, carried by the body (11) and being accessible from the exterior thereof, are of a number equal to the number of recesses and are each individually associated with the latter, with, between each recess and the connecting terminal which is associated therewith, an electrical connection on which there is interposed for one at least of the recesses a switch which is open in the cut-off position of the recess support (13) and which is closed in the closure position thereof, the switch preferably involving a double cut-off action.
  23. An electrical connection element (14), in particular a power connection plug, which is intended to co-operate by plugging engagement with a complementary element (10), in particular a power connection socket or mobile power connection, and which in itself comprises a generally cylindrical body (35) internally forming a well (37) for accommodating electrical contact members and externally comprising around the contour of the well (37) a collar portion (38) extending radially from the body (35) at a spacing from the mouth opening of the well (37), a flat annular sealing gasket (39) of deformable elastic material fitted on the body (35) by being caused to bear against the shoulder surface (40) of the collar portion (38) which is disposed in a proximal position with respect to the mouth opening of the well (37) and intended to be operatively disposed between the electrical connection element (14) and the complementary electrical connection element (10) when the two elements are connected together, rotational clamping means (41) intended to co-operate with complementary clamping means (25) provided on the complementary electrical connection element (10) in order to be able to act in compression relationship on the sealing gasket (39) when said two electrical connection elements are connected together, characterised in that the sealing gasket (39) is made of a material of a low resistance to deformation stresses and extends at least to being in substantially flush relationship with the edge (43) of the collar portion (38).
  24. An electrical connection element according to claim 23 characterised in that the complementary electrical connection (10) is of the kind comprising a body (11) internally forming a well (12) for accommodating electrical contact members, a flap (16) pivotably mounted to the body (11) to cover the well (12) when it is in a position of being pivoted down thereonto and comprising a retaining lug portion (32) in internally right-angled relationship in a zone substantially diametrally opposite to that of the pivotal mounting of the flap (16) to the body (11), and a spring (19) continuously urging the flap (16) in the direction of being pivoted downwardly while the body (35) of the electrical connection element (14) also comprises a retaining lug portion (33) which projects externally from the body (36) to co-operate with the retaining lug portion (32) of the complementary electrical connection element (10) when the two electrical connection elements are connected to each other in order to be able to come into locally mutually facing relationship to hold the two elements in the mutually plugged-in position, characterised in that the retaining lug portion (33) of the electrical connection element (14) is positioned in such a way as to be capable of ensuring that the two electrical connection elements are caused to bear against each other and to keep the sealing gasket (39) operatively disposed between those two elements in a compressed condition under the force of the spring (19) of the complementary electrical connection element (10) acting on said retaining lug portion (33) of the electrical connection element (14) by way of the retaining lug portion (32) of the complementary electrical connection element (10) when the two electrical connection elements are connected together but are not in engagement with each other by way of the clamping means (41, 25).
  25. An electrical connection element according to claim 23 or claim 24 characterised in that the sealing gasket is characterised by a Shore 00 hardness of 60 at a maximum.
  26. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 23 to 25 characterised in that the sealing gasket has a resistance to compression to 25% of 77 kPa at a maximum and to 50% of 230 kPa at a maximum.
  27. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 23 to 26 characterised in that the sealing gasket has a residual deformation at compression of less than or equal to 25% for 22 hours at 23°C and less than or equal to 60% for 22 hours at 40°C.
  28. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 23 to 27 characterised in that the sealing gasket is of rubber of sealing cellular structure.
  29. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 23 to 28 characterised in that the sealing gasket covers over the full section the shoulder surface defined by the collar portion and disposed in a proximal position with respect to the mouth opening of the well.
  30. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 23 to 29 characterised in that the body (35) externally comprises an annular groove (44) extending around the contour of the well, by way of which groove the sealing gasket (39) is mounted freely on the body (35).
  31. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 23 to 30 characterised in that the clamping means provided on the body (35) comprise a quick-action locking ring (41) of bayonet type mounted rotatably on the body (35).
  32. An electrical connection element according to claim 31 characterised in that the locking ring comprises a generally cylindrical skirt which is in one piece with a flange which is set back in right-angled relationship and by way of which the ring is mounted rotatably on the body.
  33. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 23 to 32 characterised in that a plurality of electrical contact pins are accommodated in the well in the body (35).
  34. An electrical connection assembly comprising an electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 22 and a complementary electrical connection element according to any one of claims 23 to 33.
  35. An electrical connection element according to any one of claims 1 to 22 characterised in that the disengageable securing means are capable of permitting opening of the flap by an action limited to a pulling force applied thereto.
