Il arrive par exemple que le bruit ambiant devienne excessif de manière à rendre l'interface vocale inutilisable, le système de reconnaissance de la parole ne pouvant plus interprété correctement les sons qu'il20 anytime and especially anywhere, for example in transport or in public places. However, it often happens that the external or ambient conditions are modified during use. For example, the ambient noise may become excessive, rendering the voice interface unusable, as the speech recognition system can no longer correctly interpret the sounds it

Similarly, it happens that the ambient light becomes insufficient for the user to use the touch or graphical interface comfortably. The idea that in the latter case would be to use lighting means is not satisfactory because these lighting means consume too much energy, moreover, in case of use of a touch screen, a large part of enlightenment is filtered by this
30 dernier. The use of an interface also depends on the environment in which the portable object is. Thus, a user interface using a touch screen for receiving data can not be used in a liquid medium. Similarly, the use of a An interface using radiofrequency signal receiving means can not be used in an environment where too many parasitic waves are received.
The invention aims to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks, by preventing the user from using an interface, for example voice, when the latter is no longer able to function properly, and allowing as far as possible user can always use an operational interface.
For this, the present invention, according to one embodiment, relates to a portable electronic object comprising a first user interface comprising means for receiving sound signals and a management unit comprising sound signal processing means characterized in that it comprises in addition, an ambient noise sensor for measuring an ambient noise level, the noise sensor being connected to the management unit and in that this management unit also comprises first comparison means for comparing the ambient noise level with a predefined noise level, and control means arranged to disable the sound signal processing means when the ambient noise level exceeds the predefined noise level.
According to another embodiment, the electronic portable object comprises a first user interface, at least a second user interface and a user interface management unit comprising first and at least second processing means associated respectively with the first and at least second user interface, characterized in that it further comprises means for measuring at least one external parameter linked to at least one of the user interfaces, the measuring means being connected to the management unit, and in that this the management unit also comprises comparison means for comparing a measured level with a predefined level of this external parameter, and control means arranged to activate or deactivate the processing means associated with the user interface linked to the external parameter measured according to of the result of the comparison. The block diagram shown in Figure 1 is applicable to any type of portable electronic object 1 and preferably to a wristwatch or a mobile phone. The portable object 1 comprises in particular a first user interface 2 called "voice" comprising means for receiving sound signals 3, for example a microphone, and may also include means for transmitting sound signals 4, for example a loudspeaker. speaker.
Preferably, the portable object 1 further comprises a second user interface 5 called "touch" comprising control members 6, for example push buttons or touch keys and display means 7, for example a crystal screen liquids or simply a set of needles moving towards indications.
A management unit 8 makes it possible to manage the various user interfaces, for this it notably comprises processing means associated with each of the user interfaces. Sound signal processing means 9a associated with the first user interface 2 make it possible to manage the received sound signals and possibly the audible signals to be transmitted and means for processing the control elements 9b associated with the second user interface 5 make it possible to manage the received orders and possibly the data to display.
As already mentioned above, one of the objectives according to the invention is to be able to change the user interface according to the external conditions, in particular according to this embodiment, ambient noise and ambient light. For this, the portable object 1 is equipped with an ambient noise sensor 10, and advantageously a light sensor 11. It will be noted that, preferably, the microphone 3 is used as the ambient noise sensor and the liquid crystal screen 7 as the light sensor.
The light sensor 11 makes it possible to measure the level of light that it receives, these measurements being transmitted to the management unit 8 by means of a signal Lm. The management unit to which the ambient noise and light sensors are connected comprises first and second comparison means 12a and 12b, for respectively comparing the measured ambient noise level Bm with a predefined noise level Bo and the level. of received light measured Lm with a predefined light level Lo. The first comparison means 12a receive at an input the signal Bm of the ambient noise level measured from the ambient noise sensor 10 and at the other input a signal corresponding to a predefined noise level Bo and the second comparison means 12b receive at one input the signal Lm of the received light level measured from the light sensor 11 and the other input a signal corresponding to a predefined light level Lo. According to the result of the comparison of the two signals received at the input, the first comparison means 12a, respectively the second comparison means 12b, output a control signal Cb, respectively C1 to control means 13 arranged to deactivate the signals. sound signal processing means 9a and / or the processing means of the control members 9b according to the result of the comparisons made by the comparison means 12a and 12b. An example of management of the activation and deactivation of the various processing means, depending on the external conditions, is given in the table of FIG.
Advantageously, the management unit also comprises warning means 14, for example an electromagnetic vibrator, connected to the control means 13. These warning means 14 are in particular used to warn the user by means of mechanical vibrations that one of the predefined levels (Bo, Lo) has been exceeded and one of the user interfaces is no longer usable or can be used again.
The table in FIG. 2 shows the active or inactive state of the means for processing the received and possibly transmitted audio signals (A), and the command processing means received by means of the control elements and possibly data to be displayed ( B), depending on the ambient noise and received light conditions. As regards the ambient noise, a predefined noise level Bo is considered, corresponding advantageously to the noise level beyond which the sound signal processing means (A) no longer function properly. And, as regards the light received by the light sensor, a predefined light level Lo is considered, corresponding for example to a level of brightness sufficient to clearly see the data displayed by the display means of the portable object. .
Thus, for a measured ambient noise level Bm that is less than or equal to the predefined noise level Bo, and for a measured received light level Lm greater than or equal to the predefined light level Lo, the processing means A and / or B are activated; for a measured ambient noise level Bm less than or equal to the predefined noise level Bo and for a measured received light level Lm less than the predefined light level Lo, the processing means A are activated and the processing means B are deactivated; for a measured ambient noise level Bm greater than the predefined noise level Bo and for a measured received light level Lm greater than or equal to the predefined light level Lo, the processing means A are deactivated and the processing means B are activated; for a measured ambient noise level Bm greater than the predefined noise level Bo and for a measured received light level Lm less than the predefined light level Lo, the processing means A and B are deactivated. According to a variant of this first embodiment of the invention, it is only intended to actuate the warning means 13 when exceeding one of the predefined noise or light levels, leaving the choice to the user of interrupt the use of the current feature.
It will be noted that the sound signal processing means (A) may conventionally comprise a speech recognition system for managing the received signals and a speech synthesizer for managing the sound signals to be transmitted.
L'objet portatif 101 comprend une première interface utilisateur IU1 diteFigure 3 shows a block diagram of a portable object, preferably a watch calendar, according to a second embodiment of the invention. The portable object 101 includes a first user interface IU1 called
This first user interface comprises means for receiving sound signals 103, for example a microphone and may also include means for transmitting sound signals 104, for example a loudspeaker.
The portable object 101 further comprises a second user interface IU2 called "tactile" comprising tactile data input means, such as a touch screen 106, comprising at least two electrodes or tactile keys, the operation of which is described in FIG. in more detail in the patent applications EP 0 791 868 and EP 0 838 737, filed in the name of the Applicant and incorporated herein by reference, and data display means 107, for example a liquid crystal display or LCD according to the English terminology "Liquid Crystal Display". It should be noted that in the preferred case of a wristwatch, the touch screen is superimposed on the LCD screen.
The portable object further comprises a third user interface IU3, called "radiofrequency or RF", comprising means for receiving radio frequency signals 115, for example an RF antenna, for receiving the radio frequency signals emitted by a radiofrequency pen transmitter 116 with motion recognition and data display means 107. Preferably, the display means for the second and third user interfaces IU2 and IU3 are the same. It should be noted that the RF antenna may possibly be used as a radiofrequency transmitter. Radio transmissions between the pen and the portable object can meet the requirements of the Bluetooth standard.
These three user interfaces are managed by a management unit 108 comprising first 109a, second 109b and third 109c processing means respectively associated with the first IU1, second IU2 and third IU3 user interfaces. The first processing means 109a make it possible to process the sound signals received via the microphone 103 and possibly the sound signals to be emitted by means of the loudspeaker 104. The second processing means 109b make it possible to process the data entered by means of the loudspeakers. touch-screen keys 106 and possibly to display data on the LCD screen 107. As for the third processing means 109c, they make it possible to process the radio frequency signals received from the RF pen 116 to be handled by the user and possibly to display data on the LCD screen 107.
The portable object 101 also comprises various means for measuring external parameters related to the user interfaces, these measurement means being connected to the management unit. In particular, there is provided an ambient noise sensor, advantageously the microphone 103, making it possible to measure a level of the ambient noise (Bm), a light sensor advantageously using the LCD screen 107 for collecting the light in association with a diode, not shown, for detecting a received light level (Lm), a parasitic wave sensor, preferably the RF antenna 115, for measuring the level of parasitic waves (Om), and means for detecting the activation of each of the electrodes of the touch-sensitive glass 106, advantageously incorporated in the second processing means 109b which send a signal (De) to the control means 113, in the event of simultaneous activation of all the keys tactile 106.
The management unit 108 comprises first comparison means 112a for comparing said ambient noise level (Bm) with a predefined noise level (Bo), second comparison means 112b for comparing said received light level (Lm) with a predefined light level (Lo), third comparison means 112c for comparing the measured parasitic wave level (Om) with a predefined parasitic wave level (Oo), and control means 113 arranged to respectively disable: - the sound signal processing means 109a when the ambient noise level exceeds the predefined noise level, Bm> Bo, the processing means of the control members 109b when the received light level falls below the predefined light level, Lm <Lo or when a simultaneous activation of said at least two electrodes is detected, and the radio frequency signal processing means 109c when the level of light received passes below the predefined light level, Lm <Lo, or when the measured noise wave level exceeds the predefined noise wave level, Om> Oo. An example of a decision tree for choosing a user interface will be explained in detail in Figure 4.
It is also planned to provide the portable object 101 with activated warning means to warn the user in the event of deactivation of processing means associated with one or more of the user interfaces. Advantageously, several warning means are provided to ensure that the user is properly warned. Selection means 117 between these different warning means are then added, the selection being then established according to at least one predetermined criterion. For example, there are first warning means of the audible alarm type 114a which are preferably activated when the received light is lower than the predefined light level, second warning means of the vibrating alarm type 114b preferably activated when it is detected that the portable object is immersed in a liquid medium, and third means warning type of flashing or light alarm type 114c preferably activated when the ambient noise level exceeds the predefined noise level. Other criteria for selecting the different warning means can obviously be used. It should be noted that advantageously, the portable object further comprises calculation means, not shown in Figure 3, the success rate to verify the proper operation of the processing means associated with the interface used.
Advantageously, this portable object may also include pre-setting means, not shown, allowing the user to disable one or more user interfaces. These pre-settings offer the opportunity for the user to disable, for example, the first user interface called "vocal" when going to the theater or cinema.
Dans l'hypothèse où l'utilisateur veut effectuer des pré-réglages, alternativeIt has been mentioned so far that depending on an external parameter, such as the ambient noise, the light received, the spurious waves or the environment in which the portable object is immersed, some of the user interfaces have their means. disabled, which can no longer be used correctly. It is also possible that one or more user interfaces are no longer usable properly because of an involuntary action of the user for example according to its activity. Indeed, a user practicing a sport such as running or cycling will have difficulty in correctly using the second IU2 and third IU3 user interfaces. To remedy this, it is intended to provide the portable object with motion detection means, such as an accelerometer 118, to determine if the activity of the user allows the reliable and correct use of different user interfaces . In the case of an accelerometer, it is intended to measure an acceleration level (Am) of the object and to compare it, via fourth comparison means 112d, to a predefined acceleration level (Ao) of this object. same object. When the level of acceleration measured exceeds the predefined acceleration level, Am> Ao, it may be provided to disable the processing means of one or all of the user interfaces. According to a variant of this second embodiment, it is only intended to warn the user that the processing means associated with one or more user interfaces no longer function properly. Means for measuring at least one external parameter linked to at least one of said user interfaces makes it possible to measure a level of the external parameter, comparison means compare this measured level with a predefined level of this parameter and according to the result of the comparison it is planned to activate warning means. Figure 4 shows a decision tree, according to a preferred variant of the second embodiment of the portable object, for determining a user interface of a portable electronic object comprising a plurality of user interfaces. According to this variant, it is provided that the user can make presets before any use of the portable object. These pre-adjustments are intended to allow the user to disable one or more interfaces initially available. Indeed, it may be useful to be able to manually disable some interfaces depending on where you are, or depending on the activity that we practice etc. In the event that the user does not want to perform presets, alternative NO, the portable object carries out a complete check consisting of performing all the planned tests, based on external parameters each linked to at least one of the interfaces to determine which are usable under predefined acceptable conditions. Advantageously, there is at least one test for each of the three user interfaces, voice tactile or RF. In the event that the user wants to make pre-adjustments, alternative
Once the presets have been made, the portable object carries out a partial verification of performing only the tests based on the external parameters related to the user interfaces whose processing means have not been deactivated.
The details of the tests that can be performed as part of the full and partial verifications are described in Figures 5A and 5B, respectively.
Once the complete or partial verification has been carried out, if no user interface is usable under the predefined acceptable conditions, the user is warned by warning means of the type described in Figure 3, a new verification cycle is then undertaken either after a specified period or at the request of the user. If a single user interface is usable, it is automatically selected and made active. If at least 2 user interfaces are usable, the portable object selects one of these interfaces according to a predetermined criterion. This selection criterion can be, for example, the level of energy consumption of each of the user interfaces that can be used, the one that consumes the least then being selected. Another selection criterion may be the estimated average data input speed, the one offering the highest speed then being selected, or for the interfaces described in FIG. 3, the first, the third and the second interfaces. Any other predefined selection criterion, in particular by the user himself, can also be envisaged. When a user interface has been selected, the processing means associated with this interface are then activated, these means allowing the interpretation and storage of the data entered by the user. It is advantageous to regularly check the success rate of the interpretation of these processing means. A predefined level makes it possible to share this success rate in two categories, UP and DOWN. If the success rate is HIGH, the interpretation of the data processing means that the user is trying to introduce is satisfactory and the interpretation can continue. On the other hand, if the success rate is LOW, the interpretation of the processing means is poor and the portable object automatically deactivates these processing means and performs a partial check on the remaining interfaces, taking into account the presets. During these operations, the warning means can be activated in order to warn the user of the situation.
At first, it is possible to perform a parallel measurement of the ambient noise, "AMBIENT NOISE MEASUREMENT", and a measurement of the received light, "LIGHT MEASUREMENT RECEIVED".
The measured ambient noise level (Bm) is compared with a predefined noise level (Bo). When the measured ambient noise level does not exceed the predefined noise level, Bm <Bo, a signal is sent to the management unit to indicate that the first voice interface is usable, "VOICE OK".
The measured received light level (Lm) is compared with a predefined light level (Lo). When the measured received light level exceeds or equal to the predefined light level, Lm> Lo, the second and third touch and RF interfaces are likely to be usable, it is therefore preferable to carry out two other parallel tests. An environmental detection test, "WATER DETECTION", to check if the portable object is not immersed in a liquid medium, for example water, preventing the use of touch-sensitive glass and another test to control the level of the parasitic waves, "MEASURE WAVE PARASITES", present in the environment of the portable object.
The ambient detection test, "WATER DETECTION", detects the activation of each of the electrodes of the touch-sensitive glass. If a simultaneous activation of all the electrodes is not detected, a signal (NO) is sent to the management unit to indicate that the second touch user interface is usable, "TOUCH OK". At the same time, the measured parasitic wave level (Om) is compared with a predefined wave level (Oo). When the measured parasitic wave level does not exceed the predefined wave level, Om <Oo, a signal is sent to the management unit to indicate that the third RF user interface is usable, "RF OK".
Once all the tests are done, the management unit knows the user interfaces that can be used.
Figure 5B shows an example of possible sequencing of the tests performed as part of a partial check of Figure 4. The partial verification differs from the complete check in that the user has defined presets and / or that the processing means of one of the user interfaces have already been disabled due to a low interpretation rate of the latter. As a result, the measurement or detection tests relating to the user interfaces whose processing means are deactivated are not carried out.
So we have a pre-treatment which is the following:
Si les moyens de traitement de la première interface utilisateur vocale sont désactivés, le test consistant à effectuer une mesure du bruit ambiant n'est pas effectué ; - Si les moyens de traitement de la deuxième interface utilisateur tactile sont désactivés, le test consistant à effectuer une détection de l'activation des électrodes de la glace tactile n'est pas effectué ; Si les moyens de traitement de la troisième interface utilisateur RF sont désactivés, le test consistant à effectuer une mesure du niveau des ondes parasites n'est pas effectué ;If the processing means of the first voice user interface are deactivated, the test of making a measurement of the ambient noise is not performed; - If the processing means of the second touch user interface are disabled, the test consisting in performing a detection of the activation of the electrodes of the touch screen is not performed; If the processing means of the third RF user interface are deactivated, the test consisting in performing a measurement of the level of the parasitic waves is not performed;
If the processing means of the second and third tactile and RF user interfaces are deactivated, the test consisting of measuring the received light is not performed; If the processing means of the three user interfaces are deactivated, no test is performed.
Depending on the results of this pre-treatment the management unit may or may not perform each of the available tests.
In the example shown, it is preferable to start with the test to check the level of light received, "TEST LUMIERE". If it is not to be performed (NO), it is not necessary to perform either the ambient test, "WATER TEST", or the test to check the level. parasitic waves, "TEST WAVE". The management unit then directly checks whether the test to check the ambient noise level, "TEST NOISE", must be performed.
If it is to be performed (YES), a measurement of the received light level is made, "LIGHT MEASUREMENT RECEIVED". The measured received light level (Lm) is compared with a predefined light level (Lo). When the received light level falls below the predefined light level, Lm <Lo, it is not necessary to perform either the "WATER TEST" or the "WAVE TEST". The management unit then directly checks whether the "NOISE TEST" is to be carried out. When the measured received light level exceeds or equalizes the predefined light level, Lm> Lo, the management unit checks, based on the pre-treatment results, whether the "WATER TEST" and / or the "TEST WAVE" must be performed.
If the "WATER TEST" is to be performed (YES) and simultaneous activation of all the electrodes is not detected during the detection test, "WATER DETECTION", a signal (NO) is sent to the test unit. management to indicate that the second touch user interface is usable, "TOUCH OK."
If the "WAVE TEST" is to be performed (YES), a measurement of the level of the parasitic waves is made, "MEASURE WAVE PARASITES". The level of the measured parasitic waves (Om) is compared with a predefined wave level (Oo). When the measured parasitic wave level does not exceed the predefined wave level, Om <Oo, a signal is sent to the management unit to indicate that the third RF user interface is usable, "RF OK".
The measured ambient noise level (Bm) is compared with a predefined noise level (Bo). When the measured ambient noise level does not exceed the predefined noise level, Bm <Bo, a signal is sent to the management unit to indicate that the first voice user interface is usable, "VOICE OK".
En ce qui concerne les exemples de vérification présentés aux Figures 5A etOnce all the tests are done, the management unit knows the user interfaces that can be used. With regard to the verification examples presented in Figures 5A and
5B, il est tout à fait envisageable de modifier l'ordre des tests effectués, voir même de les effectuer tous en parallèle.5B, it is quite possible to change the order of tests performed, or even to perform all in parallel.
As mentioned above, the invention also relates to a method for determining a user interface among the available interfaces that can be used as a function of the conditions external to the portable object.
If the portable object further comprises a second user interface comprising a touch screen comprising at least two electrodes and display means, a third user interface comprising means for receiving radio frequency signals and the display means, the unit management system also comprising second touch-screen processing means and third radio-frequency signal processing means, the method then also comprises the following operations: performing a measurement of the received light level (Lm) by means of a sensor light connected to said management unit; comparing the measured received light level with a predefined light level (Lo); - Disabling said second and third processing means when the measured received light level passes below the predefined light level (Lm <Lo). Advantageously, when the measured received light level exceeds or equal to the predefined light level (Lm> Lo) the method also comprises the following operations: detecting the activation of each of said at least two electrodes by means of a detector connected to said management unit ; deactivating said second processing means when simultaneous activation of said at least two electrodes is detected; - measure the level of the parasitic waves (Om) by means of a parasitic wave sensor connected to the management unit; compare the level of the parasitic waves measured with a predefined parasitic wave level (Oo); disabling said third processing means when the level of the measured parasitic waves exceeds the predefined parasitic wave level
Preferably, it is provided that the user can define presets to indicate the means of treatment to be deactivated automatically, and in this case the measurement or detection operations relating to the user interfaces whose processing means are deactivated , are not performed. The final objective is to select a usable user interface, for this it is preferentially provided to select an interface among the interfaces whose processing means are not deactivated, according to a predetermined criterion, such as energy consumption or speed. treatment. When an interface has been selected, the interpretation rate of the processing means associated with the selected user interface is periodically calculated, then compared with a predefined minimum interpretation rate, and finally the means of processing the user interface. selected are disabled if the calculated interpretation rate is lower than the predefined minimum interpretation rate. The measurement or detection operations relating to the user interfaces whose processing means are not deactivated, are then performed again.
In addition, measurement or detection operations relating to user interfaces whose processing means are not automatically disabled, are preferably performed regularly.
If no user interface is usable, the user is warned that no user interface is usable by means of warning means.
It should be noted that the description is given by way of example only and that other embodiments, in particular user interfaces as well as sensors incorporated in the portable object, can be the object of the invention. present invention. In particular, it should be noted that the sound signal processing means of the voice interface may only be means for storing the received and transmitted lyrics. The portable object then further comprises radio frequency communication means or infrared with a computer for transmitting and receiving the stored words, the recognition and synthesizing of the words being performed on the computer.
Enfin pour l'interface RF, il peut être prévu de détecter un signal RF particulier émis par le stylo RF.Note also that for the sake of saving energy, it is expected that the functionalities of the portable object, such as an electronic diary, are not activated during a usual use as a watch or phone of the object. These particular functionalities can be activated in different ways, in particular by a specific activation of one of the user interfaces. For the voice interface, it can be expected to recognize a particular sound. For the touch interface, it can be expected to detect the activation of a particular touch key. Finally for the RF interface, it can be expected to detect a particular RF signal emitted by the RF pen.
When the features of the portable object are used, it is expected that the user can manually choose the interface he wants to use or let the object determine the interface to use according to the external parameters.
In the latter case, when the portable object is in a critical environment for all interfaces, it is expected that it can determine an interface to be used by means of a fuzzy logic method, i.e. not on the basis of predefined threshold values, but on the basis of weighted value ranges. This method has the advantage of allowing the object to be able to choose the least critical interface when none is a priori usable.
Finally, note that the light sensor used may be a light source capable of measuring the intensity of ambient light as described in EP 02075879.3 filed in the name of the Applicant.
