Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for husking and degerminating grains of maize. The aim of the invention is to provide an efficient and simple degermination of maize. To this end, during a wet degermination process, cleaned maize is wetted, and then husked and degerminated, and directly supplied to the comminution stage.

Description

  • The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for peeling and sterilizing cereals and the like, in particular corn kernels.
  • An apparatus for peeling and sterilizing corn kernels is known from WO 89/00454 known. This has a stator, in whose housing a rotor is mounted horizontally rotatably, which is at least partially occupied in the region of the treatment chamber with knobs. The treatment chamber limiting the inside of the stator housing has provided with a perforated screen Durchfallelemente and contains at least two detachable housing wall parts. At least the detachable housing wall parts each have at least one nub segment, which is radially adjustable relative to the axis of rotation of the rotor.
  • The corn kernels are first prepared with water and / or steam, then peeled and sterilized and the peel-free rejects are sighted and processed. The diarrhea is spotted separately.
  • Also known is a sterilizing machine with a vertically arranged rotor, the repulsion of which is guided into a polishing machine and, if necessary, a separator is also arranged between the two machines. The corn kernels are sterilized in this case, then polished, aspirated and again wetted. This is followed by a lapse over 10 min. before the grinding.
  • A device for the treatment of grain and grain is also from the US 4,583,455 A known. This shows a peeling machine, which consists of a rotor and a stator. The device also has a hollow cylinder (11) with a cavity (20) for the passage of air. Air is directed from the cavity (20) into a processing zone (9). On the hollow shaft are fasteners for abrasive elements.
  • The invention has for its object to develop a method for peeling and sterilizing corn kernels, which allows further simplification of the process with higher yield and product quality. The object is solved with the features of claim 1. Cleaned and corned corn is peeled and sterilized and the sterilized corn kernels can be fed directly to processing / milling.
  • If necessary, only one sighting, for example in an aspiration channel, precedes the processing.
  • The process management is thus considerably simplified, the investment and maintenance costs are reduced and the operation is simplified. Surprisingly, the yield and product quality as well as the performance, especially in the case of dry sterilization, could be massively increased. Also, the mechanical effort in grinding to grits can be significantly reduced.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a device for peeling and sterilizing corn kernels. This object is achieved with the features of claim 5. The apparatus comprises a processing zone with adjustable impact bars and a rotor having projections along the length of the processing zone and louvers. The distance between strainer basket and rotor is changeable.
  • The invention will be described below in an embodiment with reference to a drawing. In the drawing show the

  • The stator 1 of the device (corn sterilization machine 32) has a housing 2 which surrounds a rotor 3 mounted therein and is mounted on a frame and is open at the bottom by a subsequent outlet trim 4. Through this outlet trim 4 diarrhea from germs, peeling and shell parts is removed.
  • From a product inlet 5, the corn kernels enter the processing zone 6 via a feed screw 10. During the peeling / degerming, the corn kernels are guided against an adjustable storage device 7 in order to form a specific processing pressure in the processing zone 6. The sterilized corn kernels leave the processing zone 6 through an adjustable outlet opening 8 and via an outlet 9, the degermination machine.
  • The machining zone 6 is formed on the stator side by four impact strips 11 and two screen basket halves 12, two impact strips 11 being arranged at the top and two at the bottom on the stator 1 and the screen basket halves 12 being arranged between them in such a way that they surround the rotor 3 with the impact strips 11 in the axial direction completely envelop. The rotor 3 is formed from a casting roll 13 with a hollow shaft 14. The roller 13 includes at least two projections 15 and associated slots 16, which are arranged uniformly spaced on the circumference of the roller 13 and which extend over the entire length of the processing zone 6.
  • The hollow shaft 14 has a plurality of openings 17 for the escape of air. The air continues through the slots 16 in the roller 13 into the processing zone 6 and assists in the passage of product through the product. The air is pressed by means of a fan 20 into the hollow shaft 14.
  • In wet sterilization, cleaned and cut corn is fed via a metering device 30 and a magnet 31 to the corn sterilization machine 32 where it is peeled and sterilized. The surface moistening (shell moistening) of the grains during meshing in the network unit 21 takes place only for a short time. The diarrhea consists of peel and peeling flour, the rejection of sterilized corn kernels enters an aspiration channel 33, where still contained, dissolved shell parts are separated in the air stream. The aspirated corn kernels enter the mill and the first two grinding passages (B1, B2) 34 are used without intermediate direction (according to the teaching of the EP-B-335925 ) run through. Only after the second grinding stages, the grits are sighted and fed to other grinding passages.
  • In dry disinfection, the surface moistening in the network unit 21 is dispensed with and it is only sterilized. This results in a much higher yield, analogous to conventional wet sterilization.
  • In wet germination, it is possible to increase the performance significantly. The product quality remains constant.
  • Due to the smaller machine park, the investment costs can be massively reduced, also the maintenance costs and the operating costs decrease.

Claims (7)

  1. Method for the husking and degerming of maize grains, the grains previously being cleaned, the grains being degermed directly or after surface moistening, and husking and/or degerming taking place in a processing zone (6) between impact strips (11) of a roller (13), the roller (13) having projections (15) and assigned slots (16), characterized in that air emerges through a multiplicity of orifices (17) on a hollow shaft (14) and passes further on through the assigned slots (16) in the roller (13) into the processing zone (6).
  2. Method according to Claim 1, characterized in that the degermed maize grains are aspirated and are ground into grit or meal.
  3. Method according to Claim 2, characterized in that grinding commences with double grinding without intermediate sifting between the grinding steps.
  4. Apparatus of the husking and degerming of maize grains for carrying out the method according to at least one of Claims 1 to 3, with a rotatable mounted rotor which is provided with processing tools and with a stator (1) which contains impact strips (11) and screens which surround the rotor so as to form a processing zone (6), characterized in that the rotor (3) consists of a hollow shaft (14) with a multiplicity of orifices (17), which is surrounded in the region of the processing zone (6) by an outer roller (13), the roller (13) having at least two projections (15) and assigned slots (16), so that air can pass through the slots (16) from the hollow shaft (14) into the processing zone (6).
  5. Apparatus according to Claim 4, characterized in that the projections (15) extend over the processing zone (6).
  6. Apparatus according to Claim 5, characterized in that the projections (15) are arranged, spaced uniformly apart from one another, so as to be distributed over the circumference of the roller (13).
  7. Apparatus according to Claim 4, characterized in that the hollow shaft (14) is connected to a fan (20).
