Abstract

Disclosed is a packed, highly compressed cuboid-shaped filter tow bale, the top side and bottom side of which are free from nuisome curvatures or constrictions. Said bale is characterized by the fact that a) the bale has a packing density of at least 300 kg/m<3>, b) the bale is entirely wrapped in a mechanically self-supporting, elastic packing material which is provided with one or several convectively airtight connections, and c) the top side and bottom side of the bale are so flat that a flat plate which fully covers the bale can be pressed onto the top side of the bale via a centrally effective normal force of 100 N and at least 90 percent of the surface of the top side of the bale, which lies within the largest rectangle that can be inserted by vertically projecting the bale onto the pressed plate, has a maximum distance of about 40 mm from the flat plate when the unopened bale is placed on a horizontal plane. A particularly suitable method for producing said bale comprises the following steps: a) filter tow is supplied in a compressed form; b) the compressed filter tow is enveloped in a wrapping; c) the wrapping is closed in an airtight manner; and d) the wrapped bale is relieved of the load. The wrapping of such a bale is largely prevented from bursting as a result of the prevailing internal pressure. The inventive bale has an ideal cuboid shape such that curvatures negatively affecting the bale during transport or constrictions hampering the behavior of the filter tow are largely prevented from occurring.

Description

The invention relates to a packaged, high-density bales of filter tow in cuboid shape without disturbing bulges or constrictions on the top and bottom of the bale and a method for its preparation.

In the production of filter tow for the production of filter rods for the cigarette industry, the tow is deposited in so-called "filling cans". In this case, the filter tow is distributed uniformly as a layer over the cross-sectional area of the filling can by changes in the longitudinal and transverse directions of a laying unit. There are so many layers deposited on each other until the filter tow pack has reached the desired mass and height in the filling can. Packing weights of several hundred kilograms are usual in this area. A high-density bale and a method for optimal filling of a filling can and thus avoiding resulting processing problems are described in WO 02/32238 A2.

Some Usefull Information about the reusable Packaging for Rhodia Filter Tow": RHODIA Acetow GmbH, Engesserstraße 8, D - 79108 Freiburg. Beide letztgenannten Verpackungsarten kommen ohne zusätzliche Umbänderung aus.The contents of the jug filled in this way are then pressed in the direction of the superimposed layers. After pressing, the filter under tension tension pack is still wrapped within the pressing device with packaging material and then the pressing device completely open, so that the packaging material holds the filter tow pack as a so-called bale. Conventional packaging materials are cardboard boxes which are held together mechanically by repackaging or gluing, or plastic fabrics which are closed, for example, by a hook-and-loop fastener. An example of an adhesive package is described in German Utility Model 7635849.1. Information about a filter tow packaging with plastic fabrics can be found in the company brochure "Some Useful Information about the Reusable Packaging for Rhodia Filter Tow": RHODIA Acetow GmbH, Engesserstrasse 8, D - 79108 Freiburg. Both latter types of packaging do not require any additional modification.

In the described types of packaging without additional Umbänderung it comes after the discharge of the bale at the end of the pressing process due to the elastic restoring force of the compressed filter Tows to a compressive stress of the packaging material, in particular against the compression direction, which increases the Verpakkungsvolumens and unwanted bulges the top and bottom of the bale leads. These bulges do not interfere with the intended use of the filter Tows while maintaining the measures described in WO 02/32238 A2, but prevent safe stacking of the filter tow packs. This problem is solved according to the prior art either by lateral stacking of the bales or the use of special pallets, as described in the above-cited Rhodia script. In addition, problems associated with the bursting of packages due to excessive internal pressure often occur.

A solution to the difficulties with the change describes the US-A-4,577,752. In the case of the modified packaging variants, the bulges during normal use are less disturbing than the draft resistance variations described in WO 02/32238 A2, which occur as a result of the constrictions. However, such umbändert bales can also burst. Another common feature of Filter Tow packaging is the use of an inliner between the Filter Tow and the above-mentioned mechanically bearing packaging materials. The inliner protects the filter tow from contamination, especially of an odorous nature, and from diffusion of water vapor into or out of the package. The inliner usually consists of three sections that are loosely inserted into the outer packaging.

  • Einlegen des Tow in einen rechteckigen Behälter, der mit einem Plastiksack ausgekleidet ist; Einbringen eines Absaugrohres in den Plastiksack und Abdichtung von Absaugrohr und Plastiksack; Evakuierung des Inhalts bis zum Druck von 0,5 bar abs., wodurch eine Volumenverringerung stattfindet; Entfernung des Absaugrohres;
A method for packaging filament tow is described in GB-A-1310029, proceeding as follows:
  • Placing the tow in a rectangular container lined with a plastic bag; Inserting a suction tube into the plastic bag and sealing the suction tube and plastic bag; Evacuation of the contents up to the pressure of 0.5 bar abs., Whereby a volume reduction takes place; Removal of the suction tube;
  • Removing the bale through a hinged door of the container, transporting it over a runway and tilting the bale; Placing the bale in a prepared carton and closing the carton; Modification of the carton.
  • Overall, a method is described here in which an unspecified amount of tow is compressed and packaged without the use of a press, only by the use of a vacuum pump.

It is the object of the invention to provide a highly compressed bale of filter tow in ideal cuboid shape without the transport of bales disturbing bulges or the running of the filter Tows obstructive constrictions on the top and bottom of the bale, in which the compressive stress of the packaged filter Tows is reduced and so in particular the bursting of packaging under the internal pressure can be largely avoided. Furthermore, it is the object of the invention to provide a corresponding packaging method.

These objects are achieved by a cuboid bale of filter tow according to claim 1 and a method according to claim 14.

The invention thus relates to a packaged, highly compressed bales of filter tow in cuboid shape without disturbing bulges or constrictions on the top and bottom of the bale, which is characterized in that a.) The bales have a packing density of at least 300 kg / m 3 , b .) the Balten is completely covered with a mechanically self-supporting, elastic packaging material, this material having one or more convective airtight connections, and c.) the top and bottom of the bale are so flat that when the unopened bale is placed on a horizontal Level can be pressed on the top of the bale over a central normal force of 100 N completely flat plate over the bale and at least 90% of the area within the largest rectangle that can be inscribed in by vertical projection of the bale on the printed plate the overhead bale side, inside the egg a rectangle of not more than 40 mm from the flat plate, and d.) the bale has a height of at least approximately 900 mm. It prevails in the bale, at least after packaging, a negative pressure of at least 0.01 bar over the external pressure.

The disadvantages of today's usual transport packaging have already been appreciated in the description of the prior art. The bulging of the bales on the lower and upper side of the bales, in particular, disturbs the double-layered transport. This problem is solved by not transporting the bales in the so-called working position, but in lateral storage position. This requires two additional operations, namely a rotation of the bale before transport by 90 ° and a turning back of the bale in working position after transport. Just as disturbing are the constrictions resulting from the change. These make themselves felt in the use of the bale according to the claim in higher draft resistance variations of the filter rods produced from the filter tow. This affects more than 5% of the filter rods produced from a bale. Both problems weigh heavier the higher the packing density of the bales. The problems occur from a packing density of more than 300 kg / m 3 .

It has surprisingly been found after a number of futile attempts that one is able to provide a cuboid bales disturbing bulges and the intended use disturbing constrictions without the transport if the packaging was hermetically sealed during the packaging process. For practical reasons, a bale according to claim 1 is therefore one completely encased in mechanically self-supporting elastic packaging material, this material having one or more convective airtight compounds.

In a first superficial analysis one might think that the bale according to the invention is a vacuum-packed bale, such as a vacuum packaging, as is well-known to every consumer from daily use. This is not the case. When cuboid bale according to the invention the task is the production of a defined shape. The air-tight packaging has the task during the manufacturing process to absorb pressure gradients on bale - top and bottom and level. Packaging requirements, such as the strength of the packaging, air and moisture permeability, etc., could be dispensed with. On the contrary, the bale of the invention keeps its properties even if the previously airtight material would be perforated over a large area after the packaging process. For practical reasons, one will do without such an additional measure.

The geometry of the bale according to the invention is described by the feature c.) In claim 1. In this case, the distance between the individual points of the overhead bale side can be determined, for example, by using a transparent plate as the plate and determining the distance of the individual points from the plate by means of reflection measurement. Alternatively, any other continuous method of distance measurement can be used. Within the scope of the teaching according to the invention, it is particularly preferred if 90% of the surface of the overhead bale side, which lies within the addressed inscribed rectangle, have a maximum distance of about 25 mm, in particular a maximum of about 10 mm, to the flat plate.

As far as the packing volume of the bales is concerned, it has proved to be advantageous if the bale has a volume of more than 0.9 m 3 and / or the packing density is more than 350 kg / m 3 and in particular less than 800 kg / m 3 is. In connection with the loading of the packages into containers, the shape of a cuboid with a height of at least about 900, in particular at least about 970 mm, has proven particularly suitable for the bale. The bales can be stored in this case in double stacks in the container. Heights of the packed cuboid are particularly favorable from 970 to 1200 mm, these cuboids in the form of individual stacks in the containers be filed. It is also possible to produce significantly higher bales, so that the packaging cost is minimized based on the amount of fiber to be packaged. In the case of filter tow packaging, such large packs have the advantage that when the filter tow is used to make cigarette filters in a filter rod machine, it is rarely necessary to change the bales.

The packaging casing is preferably a plastic film. Here, the convective airtight connection as a convective air impermeable executed seam, particularly advantageous as an overlapping seal or fin seam, formed.

The film preferably consists of polyethylene, in particular LDPE, or of modified polyethylene (LLDPE) or of a composite film with a polyamide and a polyethylene layer. For advertising and / or aesthetic purposes can be used as a packaging film, a colored or printed film. This is particularly useful if the filter tow to be packaged is sensitive to light. The film may further be provided with stickers having, for example, information regarding the contents of the package. Another possibility for the transmission of information through the packaging is the pressing in of a relief, which is visible through the tight fitting film due to the negative pressure. In addition to a product name, the relief may also include, for example, a company and / or customer logo. The film preferably has properties that identify it as safe transport packaging. This explains why in particular films with a thickness of 100 to 400 microns are used. If desired, subsequent to the final closure of the package wrap, i. After completion of the cuboid bale, a transport packaging made of cardboard, plastic fabric, etc. are added to the film. This can also be umbändert. As a result, the mechanical stability of the packaging is increased, so that thinner and therefore cheaper films can be selected. However, it should be emphasized that such a transport packaging is not mandatory in the context of the invention.

The process for packaging a filter tow bale according to the invention comprises the following process steps: a.) Providing filter tow in compressed form, b.) Wrapping the compressed filter tow with a packaging wrapper, c.) Airtight sealing of the packaging wrapper, d.) Relieving the wrapped bale and e.) Creating a negative pressure of at least about 0.01 bar relative to the negative pressure within the relieved packaging wrapper. When unloading the hermetically sealed bale results in a negative pressure within the packaging envelope, which is preferably at least 0.01 bar and, according to a particularly advantageous procedure, 0.15 to 0.7 bar.

Due to the airtight seal of the packaging wrapper, the generated negative pressure can be maintained within the area enclosed by the wrapper. This negative pressure reduces the pressure exerted internally on the packaging by the flexible material due to the elastic restoring force. For this reason, bulges of the packaged filter tow bale, as are common in the prior art, avoid. This increases the stackability of the packages produced. The reduced internal mechanical pressure on the packaging due to the reduced pressure also reduces the risk of packaging failure. In this way, a higher packing density can be achieved, which leads to the advantage of compact packages and thus reduced storage and transport volumes. In particular, in this way the capacity of containers in which such packaged filter Tows are stored, can be optimally utilized.

The provision of the filter Tows in compressed form is generally carried out by means of the known pressing devices. On the one hand, the method according to the invention can be conducted in such a way that the filter tow quantity provided for packaging is first mechanically compressed in the pressing device and then enveloped by the packaging wrapper. The sealing of the packaging casing takes place in this case within the pressing device. This embodiment has the advantage that the entire process is performed in one place.

On the other hand, it is also possible to perform the compression of the filter Tows preparatory in a separate station. In this case, the pre-pressed filter tow in an "auxiliary packaging", which may for example consist of retaining clips, the packaging station supplied, where the auxiliary packaging is removed and the envelope of the compressed filter Tows with packaging wrapper and the generation of negative pressure and the airtight sealing of the packaging wrapper be made. This embodiment has the advantage that, since not the entire process is carried out at the location of the pressing device, this has a higher availability. In addition, the pressing cycle of shorter duration and there are more degrees of freedom in the application the packaging casing, as the compressed bale is accessible from all sides in the packaging station.

Unlike in the prior art can be dispensed with when using the method according to the invention on liners for protection against pollution and water vapor, since these tasks are already fulfilled by the envelope used for packaging.

The vacuum initially required in the method according to the invention can be obtained in various ways. According to a particularly simple embodiment, the negative pressure is generated by expansion of the compressed filter tow material. After the filter tow has been wrapped in a compressed state with the packaging wrapper and then sealed airtight, the external pressure on the packaged material is reduced, so that it expands under the effect of the elastic restoring force within the package. Due to the increase in the volume of the pack, a negative pressure within the area enclosed by the envelope is established. Preferably, the package size is chosen so that the extent of the compressible filter Tows is not complete, i. that the filter tow within the envelope is still present in the compressed state within the packaging even after its part expansion. This embodiment has the advantage that no additional means are required to generate the negative pressure. It thus represents a particularly cost-effective way.

According to a further embodiment, which can be used alternatively or in addition to the variant described above, the negative pressure is generated by air suction within the area enclosed by the shell. In this way, a higher vacuum can be achieved than the "self-vacuum" described above. In addition, it is possible in this way to set the desired negative pressure with high accuracy.

The suction can be carried out, for example, with the help of one or more vacuum pumps. These are first connected on the suction side with the interior of the otherwise airtight sealed packaging, whereupon they are put into operation. After the desired negative pressure has been reached, the pumps are again removed from the packaging separated, wherein the Sauganschlußstellen the packaging wrapper are hermetically sealed again.

A combination of the two above-mentioned embodiments has the advantage that the evacuation times can be kept short because the negative pressure is obtained by two different measures that can be performed simultaneously. In addition, the required pressing forces are lower, since a higher packing size can be selected, where "pack size" is understood to mean the height of the filter tow bale with airtight closure in the compression device used for the compression. Finally, the height of the filter tow bale can be controlled with good accuracy in this way. As a result, external influences, with filter tow, in particular seasonal, titer, weight influences, etc., can be compensated.

Preferably, in the method according to the invention a negative pressure of about 0.15 bar to 0.7 bar below the ambient pressure is generated. This corresponds to an absolute pressure of about 0.85 to 0.3 bar within the area enclosed by the film. It is thus a vacuum in the rough vacuum range, which is completely sufficient for the inventive method in general. Particularly suitable is a negative pressure of about 0.2 to 0.4 bar, corresponding to an absolute pressure of about 0.8 to 0.6 bar, proved. The selection of the specific range for the negative pressure depends on various parameters, in particular on the type and quantity of the material to be packaged, the desired packing density, the packaging envelope used, etc. Basically, it should be kept in mind that the more compact packaging can be achieved, the stronger the vacuum or the vacuum is. The bulges can be reduced more with increasing negative pressure. However, it must be considered that the times for achieving the negative pressure increase disproportionately, the finer the desired vacuum is.

As regards the packaging casing used in the process according to the invention, it should be selected such that the desired temporal stability of the generated negative pressure and the desired mechanical stability of the packaging are ensured. Depending on the packaged good and type of use, the desired temporal stability is generally between a few days and several months or even years vary. Accordingly, films with different air permeabilities can be used.

According to one embodiment, the packaging envelope used is preferably a film made of polyethylene or modified polyethylene, for example LLDPE or LDPE. By LDPE is meant high pressure, low density polyethylene, the term LLDPE being the short form for low density, linear structure polyethylene. Such a film has the advantage that it is a single-grade film, which is also available at low cost. However, a film of polyethylene has a comparatively low strength, so that it is particularly suitable for smaller packing densities and small amounts to be packaged. Due to the relatively high air permeability of a standard polyethylene film, it is more suitable for applications where the shelf life does not exceed several weeks.

Vorzugsweise beträgt der Anteil an Polyamid etwa 1/3 und der Anteil an Polyethylen etwa 2/3.As an alternative, a composite film with polyamide and polyethylene can be used with advantage as packaging casing. This is characterized by a particularly low air permeability and high strength, so that the negative pressure over a long period of time can be kept substantially constant. Preferably, the proportion of polyamide is about 1/3 and the proportion of polyethylene about 2/3.

A gas permeability of the packaging casing or of the film for air of less than 10,000 cm 3 / (m 2 * d * bar), in particular less than 200 cm 3 / (m 2 * d * bar) and particularly preferably less than 20 cm, is preferred 3 / (m 2 * d * bar). These values are measured according to DIN 53380-V at 23 ° C and 75% relative humidity. This ensures that the vacuum will last long enough and the packaging will not become loose and remain as compact as possible. The area is also covered by commercially available foils (eg PA-PE composites). It should be emphasized that no convective air transport takes place through the film, but a mass transport takes place only via diffusion over the film. The values given for the permeability refer to a composition analogous to the ambient air (about 78% N 2 , 21% O 2 , 1% other gases). It depends only on the permeability to oxygen and nitrogen. In addition to films, other airtight materials can be used in the context of the present invention, which meet the above conditions.

The water vapor permeability of the film or other wrapping material should preferably below 5 g / (m 2 * d) and in particular below 2 g / (m 2 * d), measured according to DIN 53122 2nd part at 23 ° C and 85% relative Moist, lie. The water vapor permeability is not relevant for the shaping function of the packaging. However, a package which is not only air-tight but also water-vapor-tight has the advantage that the product moisture of the filter tow is retained by such a package. This is very important for Filter Tow. So the moisture will balance over the bale and no exchange of water vapor with the environment will take place. Polyethylene films of 100 μm thickness have about a water vapor permeability of 1 g / (m 2 * d).

As regards the mechanical strength, the packaging wrapper or the film should expediently have a breaking force of at least about 10 N / 15 mm, preferably more than 100 N / 15 mm and particularly preferably more than 200 N / 15 mm, measured according to DIN EN ISO 527-3. The stated values relate in each case to the minimum of the tensile strength in the longitudinal and transverse direction of the film. The concrete selection with regard to the tensile strength is to be made depending on whether the film-wrapped bales are repackaged for transport. As possible materials in this connection PE with a tensile strength of 15 to 30 N / 15 mm at 100 μm thickness and PA6 with a tensile strength of 150 to 300 N / 15 mm at 100 μm thickness can be mentioned.

In general, plastic films with air-blocking layers, for example made of polyamide, polyester or ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH), or with metal oxide coating, for example of SiO x , aluminum oxide, etc., and aluminum foils have proved to be particularly advantageous. The listed types of foils are not to be regarded as limiting. Due to the airtightness of the film and a flavor protection, ie a protection against intruding from the outside flavors is guaranteed, which may be advantageous in various packaged goods. For a mechanical stability of the film, a certain toughness of the same important. This is achieved particularly well by polyamide.

One way to hermetically seal the packaging wrapper or foil is to seal or seal it. Accordingly, the selected film should preferably be weldable or sealable. In this context, low-melting materials are favorable for the film. Here are, for example, polyolefins, For example, polyethylene or polypropylene, or copolymers with ethylene or propylene, for example, EVA, LLDPE, etc., call. Materials that fulfill the requirement of weldability or sealability are referred to below as the sealing layer. If appropriate, a film can consist of such a sealing layer alone or else of a composite of one or more sealing layers and further layers which ensure, for example, the mechanical strength.

To ensure easy opening of the package, the sealing layers may be "peelable", i. not be homogeneously sealable. Such an inhomogeneous sealant layer may be prepared in a variety of ways, for example by admixing polybutylene at certain locations in the sealant layer or by sealing polypropylene with LLDPE. Another way of providing an opening aid is to provide a tear strip in the packaging film. This possibility is particularly suitable for films with low toughness. Finally, protruding corners or the like may be provided which are intended to be cut open when the package is opened. After cutting the protruding corner, air may enter the interior of the package, loosening the package. Then this can then be easily opened with a foil knife, without the packaging content is damaged.

Alternatively, it can be done by gluing the packaging wrapper or the film. This embodiment has the advantage that it is possible to dispense with a sealing device. Of course, other suitable ways of sealing the packaging film can be used, as long as they meet the desired properties in terms of tightness but also with respect to the mechanical tensile strength, which are required for the particular application.

The sealing or welding can take place, for example, by forming an overlapping seam. An overlapping seam can absorb comparatively high tensile forces and thus securely hold the packaged material together, especially in the freshly packaged state, if the packaging is leaky and thus the full elastic restoring force acts on the packaging from the inside. This type of closure is thus particularly safe, the film in this case on both sides expediently should have a sealant layer (or must consist solely of such a sealant layer).

According to a further embodiment, the welding or sealing may take place to form a fin seam, which is known to the person skilled in the art of film processing. This has the advantage of being easy to manufacture from the outside, but its ability to withstand tensile loads is less than that of an overlapping seam.

The packaging wrapper or film may be formed, for example, in the form of a one-piece bag. The wrapping of the filter Tows provided in this case is analogous to the packaging of a candy. Alternatively, the film may consist of a bottom, a lid and a circumferential sleeve. In this case, the total length of the connecting seams increases because the individual parts must be joined together. According to a further preferred embodiment, the film package consists of a lid and a bottom, which may be prefabricated, e.g. deep-drawn or barked or the like, are. Finally, it is also possible to form the film like a tennis ball from two intermeshing pieces. In addition, other suitable ways of forming a film package within the scope of the invention are conceivable.

If desired, subsequent to the final closure of the package wrap, i. After completion of the film packaging, a repackaging of cardboard, plastic fabric, etc. are added to the film. As a result, the mechanical stability of the packaging can be increased, so that thinner and thus cheaper films can be selected. However, it should be emphasized that such an outer packaging is not absolutely necessary in the context of the invention.

When using an outer packaging, as described above, there is the possibility that the film packaging is deliberately formed with a low density, so that the negative pressure is compensated within one to two days over the ambient pressure. In other words, the packaging "loses" its vacuum within that time. The packaged filter tow thus expands into the overpack, however, as compared to a packaged by a prior art method Filter Tow has a lower bulge on the top and bottom of the package.

The film used in the method according to the invention preferably has a thickness of about 100 to 400 .mu.m, wherein a range of 200 to 300 .mu.m and in particular from 250 to 300 .mu.m, has been found to be particularly suitable. The exact thickness of the film used will depend on the size and mass of the fibrous material to be packaged, the degree of compression i. from the packing density and the type of film material used. As has already been mentioned above, the film can optionally be chosen somewhat thinner if an additional outer packaging, for example made of cardboard, is used.

The compressible filter tow to be packaged is provided in particular in an optimal cuboid shape. As a result, packages can be achieved that are particularly easy to stack and handle and are easy to store. The filter tow, which is in the form of cables, the cables are preferably stacked in individual layers; as has already been described in connection with the method according to the prior art.

The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to a preferred embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the drawing show:

A bale of compressible flexible fibrous material 1, in the present case a filter tow, is wrapped with a film 2 and introduced into a pressing device 3, as can be seen in FIG. 1a. In the pressing device 3, which has, for example, a pressing force of 300 to 400 t, the bale is compressed to the desired packing size. Subsequently, the film 2, except for a small area, which serves as a connection point for the suction hose of a vacuum pump 4, for example a rotary vane pump or the like, hermetically sealed. The interior of the area enclosed by the film 2 is then evacuated by means of the vacuum pump 4 to a desired negative pressure. If this is reached, the hose of the vacuum pump is separated from the film and the connection point is hermetically sealed. As already mentioned, can be dispensed with the use of a vacuum pump, if only a small negative pressure is desired, which can be achieved by the expansion of the bale.

Die Höhe des verpackten Ballens hängt unter anderem von der Stärke des erzeugten Vakuums ab.In the next step, which is shown in FIG. 1b, the pressing device 3 is opened, with the bale partially expanding again, as long as the size of the film packaging permits this. The ready-packed filter tow bales can now be removed from the pressing device and is in a transportable and storable state, as shown in FIG. 1c. The height of the packaged bale depends inter alia on the strength of the vacuum created.

Derartige Umverpackungen sind dem Fachmann bekannt und sollen hier deshalb nicht näher erläutert werden.FIGS. 2 a and 2 b show a further stage of the method according to the invention, namely the optional provision of the packaged filter tow bale with an outer packaging 5. This can be provided in particular for transport and consist, for example, of lightweight cardboard. Such outer packaging are known in the art and will therefore not be explained in detail here.

Bei hohen beabsichtigten Lagerzeiten von bis zu zwei Jahren und mehr ist deshalb eine Verbundfolie trotz der höheren Kosten vorzuziehen.FIGS. 3a and 3b each show a graph showing the properties of a package produced by the process according to the invention using a film of polyethylene or a composite film of polyethylene and polyamide over time. The polyethylene film of Figure 3a had a gas permeability of about 600 ml / (m 2 * d * bar) while the gas permeability of the composite film of Figure 3b was only about 10 ml / (m 2 * d * bar). As can be seen from a comparison of the two graphs, the generated negative pressure in the case of the composite film remains substantially constant over several hundred days, as does the bale height. On the other hand, in the case of the polyethylene film, the negative pressure has already decreased by half after just over 100 days, while the bale height increased by more than 10 cm in the same period. At high intended storage times of up to two years and more, therefore, a composite film is preferable, despite the higher cost.

As can be seen in Figure 4a, the bale height can be kept lower, the stronger the vacuum used. In the figure, three different graphs are shown, the uppermost the achievable bale height depending on the packing size of the bale without the use of a vacuum pump, the mean graph when using an additional vacuum of 0.1 bar and the lower graph using an additional vacuum of 0, 1 bar show. A filter tow of the type 3Y35 with a bale mass of 580 kg was processed at a pressure of 370 t. At these ratios, an additional vacuum of 0.1 bar in about 60 s to produce safe.

In Figure 4b, the bale height is shown under changed environmental conditions as a function of the strength of the additional vacuum, the air temperature was about 40 ° C and the ambient air pressure by about 0.05 bar higher than in the example of Figure 4a. It can be seen that the bale height increases with low air pressure and elevated temperatures.

In the described embodiment, a composite film of polyethylene and polyamide of a thickness of about 200 microns was used. The film was sealed by hand with the aid of a sealing device, whereby a sleeve part was connected to a cover and base element respectively pre-stamped in the press. The pressing force was always 370 t. The packaging costs could be considerably reduced with the aid of the method according to the invention.

According to another experiment, a bale of the same mass was wrapped in a package height of 900 mm in a composite film of polyamide and polyethylene and this welded. After opening the pressing device, the height was 970 mm. There was no bale belly in the packaging. About the increase in the volume of the bale Air found there was a vacuum of 0.12 bar corresponding to an absolute pressure of 0.88 bar. This negative pressure was achieved without the aid of a vacuum pump.

In another experiment, a bale of the same mass was wrapped in a package height of 900 mm in a composite film of polyamide and polyethylene and this welded, the inside of the package with the aid of a vacuum pump to a vacuum of 550 bar corresponding to an absolute pressure of 450 bar evacuated. After opening the pressing device, the bale took a height of about 930 mm. It calculates a pressure inside the packaging of 0.42 bar corresponding to a negative pressure of 0.58 bar. Again there was no bale belly in the packaging.
