according to
The laid-open specification WO 00/67294 describes a high-pressure discharge lamp for motor vehicle headlights with a ceramic discharge vessel, the one Has inner diameter less than 2 mm, in which an ionizable filling is arranged is. The ionizable includes xenon, mercury and metal halides, in particular Iodides of the metals sodium and cerium and optionally also iodides of Metals calcium and dysprosium.
It is the object of the invention to provide a high-pressure discharge lamp for motor vehicle headlights to provide the one without the use of mercury equivalent illumination of the road as the conventional mercury-containing ones High-pressure discharge lamps guaranteed.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the features of
- a discharge vessel which has a tubular section consisting of a transparent ceramic, the inside diameter of which is less than or equal to 2.0 mm,
- two electrodes for generating a gas discharge, which are enclosed in a gas-tight manner in the discharge vessel and whose discharge-side ends are arranged opposite one another in the tubular section, so that the distance between the discharge-side ends of the electrodes is less than or equal to 10 mm, and
- an ionizable mercury-free filling which is enclosed in the discharge vessel and serves as a discharge medium and which consists of xenon with a cold filling pressure of at least 2000 hPa and metal halides.
Due to the small dimensions of the tubular section of the discharge vessel and the electrode gap, the discharge arc is constricted considerably. In particular, the extent of the discharge arc is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis the lamp is limited exactly to the inside diameter of the tubular section. The length of the discharge arc, however, is due to the distance between the electrodes determined from each other. The light-emitting discharge arc therefore has in In the longitudinal direction of the lamp, an extension of at most 10 mm, preferably even of at most 5 mm, and an extent of at most transverse to the longitudinal direction 2.0 mm, preferably even only at most 1.5 mm. Because of this low Expansion of the discharge arc can be sufficient in optical systems to be reproduced exactly, for example when using the lamp in the low beam headlight the required contrast of the illuminance for generation the cut-off line without additional apertures. The Radiation losses in the headlights are therefore reduced to a minimum and in this way the loss of light yield due to the absence of mercury in the discharge compensated. By constricting the discharge arc in the narrow tubular section arises in the aforementioned ionizable mercury-free Filling a sufficiently high burning voltage, so that on the corresponding Additions to increase the internal voltage can be dispensed with. Besides, will due to the aforementioned constriction of the discharge arc, its convection-related Prevents upward curvature when the lamp is operated in a horizontal position.
The tubular section of the discharge vessel is due to its high thermal stress and the chemically aggressive ionizable filling from one transparent ceramic. The tubular section preferably consists of a Ceramics with a particularly high light transmission. Particularly suitable ceramics for this are single crystal sapphire, aluminum oxynitride, transparent sintered Yttrium aluminum garnet or transparent sintered ytterbium aluminum garnet. These materials are more translucent than transparent sintered polycrystalline alumina ceramics.
This is a major advantage of the high-pressure discharge lamp according to the invention to see that their ionizable filling is made exclusively from noble gas, in particular Xenon, and consists of metal halides. In particular, attention is paid to the environmentally harmful Mercury is not used as a filling component. Has been particularly advantageous the use of halides of the metals sodium, dysprosium, holmium, Thulium and Thallium together with Xenon with a Xenon cold filling pressure of proven at least 2000 hPa. In conjunction with the narrow tubular section the discharge vessel made of transparent ceramic, preferably single crystal Sapphire, transparent sintered yttrium aluminum garnet, aluminum oxynitride or ytterbium aluminum garnet, this filling ensures that the invention High-pressure discharge lamp a comparable good street lighting offers like the conventional high-pressure discharge lamp containing mercury. Due to their lower chemical aggressiveness or their vapor pressure the iodides of the aforementioned metals compared to fluorides, chlorides and Bromides preferred. Another advantage of using the halides and in particular the iodides of the metals sodium, dysprosium, holmium, thulium and Thallium combined with xenon is that the relative proportions of sodium iodide, Dysprosium iodide, holmium iodide, thulium iodide and thallium iodide on the total amount of iodide can be selected so that the color temperature of the light emitted by the lamp at a value between 3500 Kelvin and 5000 Kelvin is and thus comparable to the conventional mercury-containing High pressure discharge lamp is.
The discharge vessel of the high-pressure discharge lamp according to the invention is advantageously enclosed by an outer bulb. The outer bulb is used for thermal Isolation of the discharge vessel and is therefore preferably evacuated. In addition, it can also be used to reduce the UV radiation emitted by the lamp used by the outer bulb, for example, from UV rays absorbent quartz glass or tempered glass. To avoid stray light is the discharge vessel outside the aforementioned tubular section made of transparent ceramic, advantageously with an opaque coating Mistake. In addition, the aforementioned coating is advantageous thermally conductive to ensure an even distribution of the thermal load to ensure the discharge vessel.
