Abstract

The present invention relates to a unit adapted to manage agreements/contracts between a user and a service provider. The unit according to the invention operates locally at the user's, or in the user's access network. The agreement/contract between the user and the service provider is managed by a digital contract, and the unit is adapted to protect this contract against unauthorized access.

Description

CONTRACT MANAGEMENT
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a unit adapted to manage contracts between a user and a service provider. The present invention also relates to a computer program product by which a unit according to the invention can be realized, and a by computer readable medium on which computer program code according to the computer program product is stored.
PRIOR ART
It is previously known to, in connection with services which are sold or marketed via a network, such as an IP- network, use service platforms intended for services directed to the home. The platform is locally located at a user's, or in the user's access network, and supports services in form of software bundles or software packets stored on the platform. In known payment models these are "owned" by the company which provides the service or by a so called Service Provider which provides a pay-service. This limits the user's insight into the management of the payment model or the contracts /agreements which used payment model is based on.
It is also known to use certificate at signing of electronic documents. These certificates can be based on different encryption algorithms and they guarantee that the parties who sign the document in question really are those who they give themselves out to be .
It should be understood that by services is in this description meant both products and services. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION Technical problems
Considering the prior art as it is described above, and with starting-point from a unit, a computer program product and a by computer readable medium as above, it is a technical problem to manage digital contracts in one for the user satisfying way.
It is a technical problem to offer a user a possibility to in a simple way keep a check on which contract he/she has and what these imply.
It is a technical problem to protect a digital contract from interference/hacking.
It is a technical problem to offer the user and the service provider security and reliability in debiting of used services.
It is also a technical problem to manage the debiting of so called implicit payments.
Further, it is a technical problem to guarantee the user that the conditions in a digital contract are not changed without the user's consent.
The solution
With the aim to offer a solution to the above presented problems, the present invention is based on a unit adapted to manage contracts/agreements between a user and a service provider.
The present invention especially directs that such a unit operates locally at the user's, or in the user's access network, where the contract is managed by a digital contract, which contract is protected by the unit against unauthorized access.
To make such a protection possible, at the same time as the contract shall be accessible to authorized parties, the present invention directs that contract is signed by both the service provider and the user by means of certificate. Further, only those parties which have signed one by the unit managed digital contract are provided with access to the content in one in this manner signed digital contract . A unit according to the invention is adapted to receive and answer inquiries from both service provider and user regarding the content in contract, by which these parties in a simple way can keep a check on which contracts that exist and what these imply. With the intention to simplify the debiting management regarding services which the user receives from the service provider, the present invention directs that a digital contract shall include necessary information for this debiting, such as prices, period and right of use, and that this information is used for debiting of the services which the service provider provides to the user.
A in this manner accessible digital contract also offers a possibility to in a simple way manage so called implicit payments. A unit according to the present invention preferably can be adapted to cooperate with an Electronic Payment Provider (EPP) for debiting of services.
In order to provide the user with security at utilization of different services, the present invention directs that the validity of a contract is checked at each use of a service from a service provider, and that this check is made by both the service provider and the user.
According to a suggested embodiment of the present invention, a unit can be adapted to operate on a service platform which in a standardized manner provides service packets from the service provider to the user.
With the intention to guarantee that the management of a contract/agreement is executed in a satisfactory way, the present invention directs that the unit can be certified by an independent party in its management of contract/ agreement . It should be understood that the unit is adapted to be able to manage a plurality of different contracts between the user and one or more different service providers.
The present invention also relates to a computer program product, which includes computer program code which, when it is executed by a computer unit, makes this computer unit execute the functions of a unit according to the invention.
Further, the present invention relates to a by computer readable medium, on which computer program code according to the computer program product according to the invention is stored.
Advantages The advantages which principally can be associated with a unit, a computer program product or a by computer readable medium according to the present invention are that by this a user can be offered the possibility to in a simple way keep a check/control over the agreements, in form of electronic contracts, which have been entered into with one or more service providers.
It is by the invention possible, for both service provider and user, to check/control agreement entered into, that this is valid, and that each transaction between them is made according to this agreement.
Further, the management of implicit payments are simplified by the present invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS A unit, a computer program product and a by computer readable medium, showing the with the present invention associated characteristics, shall for the purpose of exemplifying now be described in detail with reference to enclosed drawing, where: Figure 1 shows a schematic and very simplified embodiment of the present invention, and Figure 2 shows schematically a computer unit with a computer program product, and a by computer readable medium with on that stored computer program code .
DESCRIPTION OF NOW PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
With reference to Figure 1, consequently a unit 1 adapted to manage agreement A between a user 2 and a service provider 3 is illustrated. The unit 1 is adapted to operate locally 4 at the user's 2, or in the user's access network 4'. The invention is especially suited in connection with that the user 2 and the service provider communicate with each other via a network 5. This network can be an IP-network, such as the global network Internet.
The agreement A is managed by a digital contract B, and the unit 1 is adapted to protect the contract B against unauthorized access.
This is possible by the contract B being signed C by both the service provider 3 and the user 4 by means of certificate. The signing results in that both user and service provider will be able to know that the opposite party is the one he/she gives himself/herself out to be. This signing also provides possibility for the unit 1 to provide only the parties which have signed the contract with access to the contract, which results in that the contract neither can be read nor changed by anybody else than these parties .
The unit 1 is adapted to receive and answer inquires from the service provider 3 and the user 2 regarding the content of the contract B. This is of current interest in connection with that transactions are made between the user 2 and the service provider 3.
The digital contract B includes necessary information for debiting of services from the service provider 3, such as prices, period and right of use of different services. This information is used for debiting of the services which the service provider 3 provides to the user 2.
The access to the contract results in that both parties in the transaction can check/control that the provision of the service is made according to the agreements in the contract B.
The access to the contract also makes is possible to simplify the management of implicit payments, and the present invention directs that the digital contract B manages these implicit payments.
According to one suggested embodiment of the present invention, the unit 1 can be adapted to cooperate with an Electronic Payment Provider (EPP) 6 for execution of the debiting. Such an EPP 6 can put payments which shall be made for different services to different service providers together so that the user can coordinate the payment of these costs .
At each use of a service from the service provider 3 , the validity of the contract B is checked, and this check can be made from both the service provider 3 and the user 2.
When a user 2 wants to communicate with any party via the network 5, an interface is needed between the user 2 locally 4 and the network 5. This interface can include a service platform 7 which in a standardized way provides service packets from the service provider 3 to the user 2. According to the present invention the unit 1 can constitute a part of such a service platform 7.
In order to offer an acceptable security for both user 2 and service provider 3 , the present invention directs that the unit 1 is certified by an independent party 8 in its management of the agreements A.
It should be understood that nothing prevents the unit 1 from being adapted to manage a plurality of different agreements A, A', A'', or contracts B,B',B'', between the user 2 and one or more different service providers 3, 3', 3".
Figure 2 shows a computer program product 9, which includes a computer program code 10 which, when it is executed by a computer unit 11, makes this computer unit 11 execute the functions of a unit 1 according to the invention.
Further, the present invention includes a by computer readable medium 12, on which computer program code 10 according to the computer program product 9 is stored.
The invention is of course not limited to the above as example presented embodiments but may be subject to modifications within the frame of the idea of invention illustrated in the following patent claims.

Claims

PATENT CLAIMS
1. Unit adapted to manage agreements/contracts between a user and a service provider, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said unit operates locally at the user's, or in the user's access network, that said agreement/contract is managed by a digital contract, and that said unit protects said contract from unauthorized access.
2. Unit as claimed in patent claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said contract is signed by both said service provider and said user by means of certificate .
3. Unit as claimed in patent claim 2, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that only those parties who have signed one of by said unit managed digital contract are allowed/given access to the content in said digital contract .
4. Unit as claimed in patent claim 1 or 3 , c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said unit receives and answers inquires from said service provider and said user regarding the content in said contract.
5. Unit as claimed in patent claim 4, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said digital contract includes necessary information for debiting of services from said service provider, such as prices, period and right of use, and that said information is used for debiting of the services which said service provider provides to said user.
6. Unit as claimed in patent claim 5, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said digital contract manages so called implicit payments.
7. Unit as claimed in patent claim 5 or 6 , c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said unit is adapted to cooperate with an Electronic Payment Provider for said debiting .
8. Unit as claimed in any of the previous patent claims, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that the validity of said contract is checked at each use of a service from said service provider, and that said check is made by both said service provider and said user.
9. Unit as claimed in any of the previous patent claims, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said unit is adapted to operate on a service platform which in a standardized way provides service packets from said service provider to said user.
10. Unit as claimed in any of the previous patent claims, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said unit is certified by an independent party in its management of said agreement .
11. Unit as claimed in any of the previous patent claims, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said unit is adapted to manage a plurality of different contracts between said user/users and one or more service providers.
12. A computer program product, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said computer program product includes computer program code which, when it is executed by a computer unit, makes said computer unit execute the functions of a unit according to any of the patent claims 1 to 11.
13. A by computer readable medium, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that on said by computer readable medium, computer program code as claimed in patent claim 12 is stored.
