Description

The present invention relates to a closed flexible capsule, intended to be extracted under pressure, containing a substance for the preparation of a drink selected from roasted and ground coffee, soluble coffee, a mixture of ground coffee and instant coffee, a chocolate product or any other edible dehydrated substance, consisting of a first and a second form sheet circular, oval or polygonal space for the substance and soldered on their periphery, the first sheet being made of a material selected from filter paper, non-woven fabric and a semi-rigid material and the second sheet being made of a material selected from filter paper and nonwoven.

There are already closed capsules on the market which open under the effect of the rise in pressure. The Patent EP 512,468 relates to such a capsule: the problem with these capsules is that they require a extraction device with a tip to pierce the top of the capsule and recessed and raised elements to allow the opening of the bottom of the capsule and to allow the coffee to flow into the cup. he On the other hand, there are filter paper capsules that covered by patent EP 272,432: the problem with these capsules is that the water passes too quickly on the coffee bed, without a large increase in pressure, which leads to a coffee without any residual foam in good quantity.

EP 0 554 469 A1 relates to a closed cartridge with a bottom surface provided with a line of weakening that opens under the effect of the rise in pressure in the cartridge. The opening is difficult to master from one cartridge to another.

US 5,897,899 relates to a cartridge without filter and without weakening zone but which opens at contact of perforating elements placed below the bottom sheet of the cartridge. The disadvantage is to provide these elements in the machine.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide provision of the consumer a capsule requiring for its extraction a less expensive and simpler device and who gives a coffee anyway with a residual foam in good quantity and in good quality.

The present invention relates to a closed flexible capsule according to the preamble of claim 1, wherein the first leaf is such that it lets pass water at atmospheric pressure or by drilling with a means of piercing and the second sheet is such that it does not let the water through if a pressure included between 0.1 and 3 bar is reached during the extraction of said capsule.

The purpose of the present invention is therefore to dispose of a non-homogeneous capsule with regard to the material surrounding the substance to be extracted, namely between the first and second sheet. The second sheet must retain the water, so that said water has time to wet and swell the coffee beans: this delay effect will give a good coffee extraction and a good foam. The duration of the delay effect will depend on the water supply pump, to know what will be the rise in pressure in the capsule. Normally, the delay effect for an overpressure of 1-3 bar is of the order of second. It is understood that under the second sheet of the capsule, during the extraction, it will still be necessary provide a support plate, given the rise in pressure.

If the capsule contains coffee, it is coffee roasted and ground, or simply capsule, be compacted. The amount of coffee present can vary between 5 and 10 g.

If the first sheet is made of filter paper or not woven, the water will flow into the coffee bed of the capsule by simple gravitation. However, if the first sheet is made of a semi-rigid material, it will take a piercing means for opening said first sheet. For example, with a device according to the EP patent 242'556. In the case of filter paper, we take a paper having a basis weight of 15 to 30 g / m2 and a thickness between 0.1 and 1 mm. For the nonwoven, we take Polypropylene, Polyethylene, Polyethylene terephthalate or polyurethane having a basis weight between 20 and 100 g / m2. In the case of material semi-rigid, we take aluminum with a thickness of 20 to 100 microns, pure plastic or multi-layer with optionally an oxygen barrier layer, such as EVOH or PVDC, multi-layer film such as carton, aluminum, plastic or carton, plastic with possibly an oxygen barrier layer such as EVOH or PVDC.

According to the invention, the second sheet is made of filter paper or non-woven with a mesh tight enough to let the water through when a pressure of between 0.1 and 3 bar is reached. By sufficiently tight mesh, we mean a low permeability to air or water.

The first sheet can be either filter paper and non-woven, or in one semi-rigid material. In both cases, the capsule is overpacked because it is not packaged in oxygen barrier materials.

In the case where the first sheet is filter paper or nonwoven, it will require an overpack. On the other hand, if the first sheet is in the material semi-rigid, the overpack will be useless because the aluminum / plastic layers prevent oxygen from pass.

In a preferred embodiment, the second sheet consists of a cap that is removed and a layer of filter paper or non-woven letting water at a pressure between 0.1 and 3 bar. In this last case also, it is useless to overwrite.

In a preferred embodiment, the second sheet is made of filter paper or coated non-woven a layer of lacquer.

In a preferred embodiment, the second sheet is a nonwoven having undergone a heat treatment.

In the capsule (1) according to Figure 1, the roasted coffee and ground (2) is packaged between a first sheet (3) filter paper and a second sheet (4) also in filter paper. Both leaves are soldered in (5) on the periphery of said capsule. The first sheet let the water go at atmospheric pressure, then that the second sheet also made of filter paper includes weakened areas, so that when extraction, the coffee is first well wet, then it swells well and the liquid coffee flows only when an overpressure of the order of 1 bar is reached within of said capsule. So we have a delay effect for the passage of coffee, which leads to a coffee having a good quality foam, good volume and afterglow. We can with this capsule use an extraction system without any point, simply with means allowing to place the capsule in a watertight and to perform the extraction.

Figure 2 shows a capsule (6) with ground coffee and roasted (7) packed between two sheets of nonwoven. The first sheet (8) is a nonwoven sheet which let the water pass at atmospheric pressure. The second sheet (9) is non-woven with a mesh tightly letting the water through when the overpressure to the inside of the capsule reaches 1 bar. Both leaves are welded on their periphery in (10). We can use the same extraction system as for the previous capsule.

For FIG. 3, there is the capsule (11), comprising a first sheet (12) of a semi-rigid material, alumininum and a second sheet (13) of filter paper. The roast and ground coffee (14) is disposed between these two leaves. These leaves are welded on their periphery (15). For the extraction of this capsule, it takes a needle to pierce the first sheet, for example that which is the subject of patent EP 242 556. The leaf in filter paper passes the coffee when you reach a overpressure of the order of 1 bar in the capsule during extraction.

L'intérêt de cette solution est qu'elle ne nécessite aucun suremballage.FIG. 4 shows a capsule (16) according to an alternative embodiment that does not belong to the invention. Ground and roasted coffee (17) is packaged between a first rigid aluminum sheet (18) and a composite formed of an aluminum foil (19) and a pre-cut plastic sheet (20). The leaves (19) and (20) are welded in (21) against the sheet (18). To pierce the sheet (18), it is necessary to the needle according to the aforementioned EP patent. The sheet (19) is of such thickness that it has no resistance mechanical: its function is to be a barrier to oxygen. The sheet (20) opens, when the overpressure in the capsule reaches 1 bar. The interest of this solution is it does not require any overpack.

Figure 5 shows a capsule (22) in a preferred embodiment. Ground and roasted coffee (24) is packaged between a rigid sheet (23) and a second sheet formed of a filter paper layer (25) and a operculum (26). The sheets (25) and (26) are welded into (27) against the sheet (23). To extract, we remove operculum (26) and place said capsule in a device according to EP 242'556. In this case too, there is no point in providing an overpack.
