Definitions

  • the present invention relates to improvements made to automatic emptying devices for boats, especially for life rafts, including a hole in the bottom of the boat and a substantially flexible sleeve located under the bottom of the boat by being tightly connected to the edge of the said hole.
  • a dump device thus arranged has a fundamental drawback which lies in the lack of automatic operation. Indeed, also not as difficult as the maneuvers exposed above, they require minimal knowledge of the things of the sea from people in the boat. Gold, this condition is not met when the boat is a life raft collecting passengers from a ship transport which, in general, have no knowledge of things from the sea and are unable to operate properly, at the right time, such quick-drain device.
  • an automatic emptying device which preserves as much as possible the structure simple and inexpensive of the known emptying device aforementioned, and which is capable of equipping all kinds lifeboats, including life rafts, including very large life rafts arming passenger ships (for example car ferries).
  • a quick-drain device arranged in accordance to the invention is characterized in that said sleeve is equipped with flotation means arranged at a distance from its connection with the hole in the bottom of the boat, what, when there is no water in the boat, the flotation means raise the sleeve under the bottom of the boat, closing approximately said handle and water cannot enter the boat through the sleeve, while when water is present in the boat and brought back to the hole above, its weight forces on the sleeve to lower from from the bottom of the boat despite the presence of the means of flotation and water flows through the sleeve.
  • the means of flotation are arranged at or near the end of the end of the sleeve, so that the hole in the handle in non-functional position is pressed against the bottom of the boat. It is also possible to do so that the flotation means are kept away from the end of the sleeve, which makes it part middle of the sleeve which is pressed against the bottom of the boat while its end hangs freely.
  • the means of flotation consists of at least one pneumatic pocket; advantageously then, the pneumatic pocket is shaped as at least one hermetically sealed tube containing air and extending around the perimeter of the sleeve, or else preferred variant the pneumatic bag consists of two tubes each extending over a respective half of the periphery of the sleeve.
  • the sleeve is, in the absence of water flow, flattened and present two faces joined against each other by being provided each of one of the above flotation tubes, the sleeve being flattened, in the raised position under the action of the means waterline, substantially flattened under the bottom of the boat: this gives a better seal sleeve obstruction in non-functional position.
  • the sleeve can then be formed by a sheet of material flexible folded in half flat, the edges being secured to each other and the fold being marked; or, of simpler and more preferred, the sleeve is formed of two sheets of flexible material placed one against the other the other and joined to each other by their edges respective longitudinal ones.
  • the orifice of the sleeve connected to the hole provided in the bottom of the boat is arranged laterally on the sleeve, so that the sleeve in non-functional position extends approximately parallel to the bottom; this makes it easier to raise the sleeve against the bottom of the boat under the action of flotation means outside the emptying phases; when emptying phases, the sleeve does not stretch drastically vertically below the bottom, but extends more or less
  • the sleeve is advantageously made of material relatively soft synthetic.
  • the sleeve opening secured to the hole in the bottom of the boat is equipped with a protective mesh, to prevent objects from the boat are driven by the water discharged.
  • a life raft 1 has a sidewall 2 defined by example by two superimposed pneumatic tubes.
  • a fund flexible 3 extends under the lower flange.
  • the bottom 3 is provided with a hole 4 which can be preferably fitted with a protective mesh 5 of design suitable (for example of the so-called "duckbill" type) for retain objects.
  • a sleeve 6 made of a flexible material, by example a synthetic material, not alterable in contact with Seawater.
  • the sleeve 6 is equipped with flotation means 7 which, in the example illustrated in FIG. 1A, are located at its free end. So when the interior of the raft 1 does not contain water (case illustrated in fig. 1A), the flotation means 7 raise the sleeve 6 (here the free end of this sleeve) and apply it against the bottom 3 of the raft.
  • the vertical upward push which is exerted on the flexible wall of the sleeve tends to flatten the sleeve while pressing it against the bottom 3, so that the sleeve is thus relatively closed and that the sea water does not can hardly penetrate the sleeve and flow back in the raft (balancing of the levels in the case of a loaded raft whose bottom is located below the level of the water).
  • FIG 2 is shown a variant of embodiment which constitutes a preferred embodiment.
  • the handle 6 has its connection orifice 10 (here equipped of the retaining mesh 4 in "duckbill" mentioned above) laterally, not axially.
  • the sleeve 6 is connected to the bottom 3 by being plated against the bottom 3 over almost its entire length and deviating from hole 4 approximately parallel to the background 3.
  • the sleeve 6 is formed in the form flattened in a way, on the one hand, to improve the faculty obturation of the sleeve in period of non-evacuation of water and, on the other hand, to simplify the structure of the sleeve and to facilitate its manufacture.
  • the sleeve 6 is formed by a single sheet 13 of flexible material folded over on itself, with the two longitudinal edges 11 secured (for example welded or glued) to one another.
  • the fold 12 can advantageously be crushed, so that the sleeve has a generally flattened shape with two faces 13 a (top side in fig. 3) and 13 b (bottom side visible through the trellis 4 in Figure 3).
  • the sleeve is formed by joining, edge against edge, of two sheets of flexible material 13 a, 13 b in one 13a of which has been cut out the orifice 10.
  • the flotation means 7 can be constituted in any suitable manner and / or in any suitable material: strip of floating material secured to the sleeve, pocket filled with air attached to the sleeve, etc.
  • FIG. 3 also shown schematically in Figures 4A and 4B, there are two elongated air pockets 14 which extend respectively over the entire width of the faces 13 a, 13 b.
  • These pockets 14 can be produced independently of the faces 13 a , 13 b and attached (for example glued or welded) thereon, or else consist of a flap at the end of the faces 13 a , 13 b suitable for trapping a certain air volume.
  • the flotation means 7 are not necessarily arranged at the free end of round 6, but can just as easily be arranged to away from this end, as shown in Figure 5. It suffices that the flotation means 7 are located at distance from the connection of the sleeve 6 with the hole 4 of the bottom 3 of the raft.
