    Claims (25)

    1. A connecting terminal of the kind comprising, in an insulating body (13), two contact elements (14, 15) of which one at least is of a conducting material, namely on the one hand a fixed contact element (14) which is relatively rigid and which between two opposite walls (17, 18) forms at least one cable entry (19), and on the other hand a mobile contact element (15) which comprises in inclined relationship between the two walls (17, 18) of the fixed contact element (14) an elastically deformable clamping tongue (20), said clamping tongue (20) being mounted pivotably with respect to one of the walls (17) of the fixed contact element (14), referred to as the support wall, and extending freely in cantilever relationship in the direction of the other of said walls (18), referred to as the clamping wall, becoming closer to said clamping wall (18) in proportion to its increasing distance from the cable entry (19), with, available to the user, being accessible from the exterior of the insulating body (13), an actuating member (34) which is mounted movably with respect to the fixed contact element (14) between two positions, one being a closure position and the other being an open position, and which provides when it is in the open position that the mobile contact element (15) is itself in an open position in which the free end (32) of its clamping tongue (20) is moved away from the clamping wall (18) of the fixed contact element (14), and, associated with the actuating member (34), blocking means (36) adapted to hold it stably in the open position, in such a way that the open position of the mobile contact element (15) is itself a stable position, characterised in that, the actuating member (34) being mounted pivotably in the manner of a lever and the clamping tongue (20) of the mobile contact element (15) itself being mounted pivotably about a pivot axis (A2) which is separate from the pivot axis (Al) of the actuating member (34), said actuating member (34) is capable of acting in a traction mode on the mobile contact element (15) for moving same into the open position, and the blocking means (36) which are associated therewith comprise a toggle transmission (38) which is operatively disposed between it and the mobile contact element (15).
    2. A connecting terminal according to claim 1 characterised in that the toggle transmission (38) comprises on the one hand a pull member (39) which is coupled to the mobile contact element (15) and on the other hand an entrainment arm (40) which is fixed with respect to the actuating member (34) and which in its path of movement interferes with the pull member (39) at a point (A3) thereof which is separate both from the pivot axis (A1) of the actuating member (34) and the pivot axis (A2) of the clamping tongue (20) of the mobile contact element (15), with, between said pull member (39) and said entrainment arm (40), hooking means (41) capable of permitting entrainment of said pull member (39) by said entrainment arm (40).
    3. A connecting terminal according to claim 2 characterised in that the hooking means (41) comprise on the pull member (39) an arcuately hooked bend portion (42).
    4. A connecting terminal according to claim 3 characterised in that, for co-operation with the bend portion (42) of the pull member (39), the end (43) of the entrainment arm (40) is generally rounded.
    5. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 2 to 4 characterised in that the mobile contact element (15) comprises an entrainment tongue (45) which continuously prolongs its clamping tongue (20), forming an acute elbow bend (46) therewith, by means of said elbow bend (46), referred to as the pivot elbow bend, the mobile contact element (15) passes around the support wall (17) of the fixed contact element (14), as it passes therearound being mounted pivotably on said support wall (17) by a pivot mounting of the knife edge type, and the pull member (39) of the toggle transmission (38) is coupled to said entrainment tongue (45).
    6. A connecting terminal according to claim 5 characterised in that, by means of its pivot elbow bend (46), the mobile contact element (15) is engaged on that of the edges of the support wall (17) of the fixed contact element (14), which is at the side of the cable entry (19).
    7. A connecting terminal according to claim 6 characterised in that, in the central zone of its pivot elbow bend (46), the mobile contact element (15) has an opening and by way of said opening it is engaged with a lug (47) which, locally extending the support wall (17) of the fixed contact element (14), projects from the edge thereof.
    8. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 5 to 7 characterised in that, from the pivot elbow bend (46), the entrainment tongue (45) of the mobile contact element (15) successively comprises a first portion (49) and a second portion (50) which form an elbow bend (51) between them, and the pull member (39) of the toggle transmission (38) is coupled to the second portion (50), that is to say that which is most remote from the pivot elbow bend (46).
    9. A connecting terminal according to claim 8 characterised in that the second portion (50) of the entrainment tongue (45) of the mobile contact element (15) extends on the same side of the first portion (49) as the clamping tongue (20) and, by means of the elbow bend (51) which said first portion (49) and said second portion (50) form between them, the mobile contact element (15) passes at a spacing around that one of the edges of the support wall (17) of the fixed contact element (14), which is at the side opposite to the cable entry (19).
    10. A connecting terminal according to claim 9 characterised in that the elbow bend (51) which the first portion (49) and the second portion (50) of the entrainment tongue (45) of the mobile contact element (15) form between them is an acute elbow bend.
    11. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 1 to 10 characterised in that the pull member (39) of the toggle transmission (38) extends generally inclinedly with respect to the second portion (50) of the entrainment tongue (45) of the mobile contact element (15), becoming closer to the first portion (49) of said entrainment tongue (45) in proportion to its increasing distance from said second portion (50).
    12. A connecting terminal according to claims 10 and 11 in combination characterised in that the pull member (39) of the toggle transmission (38) passes through the first portion (49) of the entrainment tongue (45) of the mobile contact element (15) by virtue of an opening (52) in said entrainment tongue (45).
    13. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 2 to 12 characterised in that the pull member (39) of the toggle transmission (38) is in integral relationship with the mobile contact element (15), forming one and the same member therewith.
    14. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 2 to 13 characterised in that the pull member (39) of the toggle transmission (38) is elastically deformable.
    15. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 2 to 14 characterised in that the pivot axis (A1) of the actuating member (34) extends between the pivot axis (A2) of the mobile contact element (15) and the pull member (39) of the toggle transmission (38).
    16. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 2 to 15 characterised in that the entrainment arm (40) of the toggle transmission (38) is in integral relationship with the actuating member (34), forming one and the same member therewith, and, on the other side of its pivot axis (A1) with respect to said entrainment arm (40), the actuating member (34) comprises an actuating arm (53) which, projecting out of the insulating body (13), constitutes the part of said actuating member (34) which is accessible to the user.
    17. A connecting terminal according to claim 16 characterised in that the actuating arm (53) and the entrainment arm (40) of the actuating member (34) form an elbow bend (54) between them.
    18. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 1 to 16 characterised in that the actuating member (34) is mounted pivotably on the insulating body (13).
    19. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 1 to 18 characterised in that the actuating member (34) is also capable of acting with a thrust force on the mobile contact element (15) for moving same from its open position to a closure position in which the free end (32) of its clamping tongue (20) is moved towards the clamping wall (18) of the fixed contact element (14).
    20. A connecting terminal according to claims 5 and 19 in combination characterised in that, for its thrust action on the mobile contact element (15), the actuating member (34) comprises at least one side plate portion (55) which extends perpendicularly with respect to its pivot axis (A1) and the path of movement of which interferes with the entrainment tongue (45) of said mobile contact element (15).
    21. A connecting terminal according to either one of claims 19 and 20 characterised in that the mobile contact element (15) is capable of latching on to the fixed contact element (14) in the closure position in such a way that its closure position is also a stable position.
    22. A connecting terminal according to claims 2 and 21 in combination characterised in that, for latching engagement of the mobile contact element (15) on to the fixed contact element (14), the pull member (39) of the toggle transmission (38) comprises at least one shoulder (56), by way of which it can engage against a shoulder (57) of the fixed contact element (14).
    23. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 1 to 22 characterised in that the fixed contact element (14) is generally of a tubular configuration.
    24. A connecting terminal according to any one of claims 1 to 23 characterised in that the fixed contact element (14) forms in side-by-side relationship two cable entries (19), the clamping tongue (20) of the mobile contact element (15) is divided longitudinally into two arms (30) over a part at least of its length from its free end (32), with one arm (30) for each cable entry (19), and, between said cable entries (19), the clamping wall (18) of the fixed contact element (14) has at least one opening (28) through which is engaged a lug (29) fixed with respect to the insulating body (13).
    25. An electrical apparatus equipped with at least one connecting terminal (11) characterised in that the connecting terminal (11) is in accordance with any one of claims 1 to 24.
