6. A bed side guard according to Claim 1 or any of Claims 2 to 4, characterized in that the upper side member (12) and the guide rods (14) of the protective side rail (10, 11) consist of tubes of circular cross-section.
7. A bed side guard according to Claim 1 or any of Claims 2 to 3, characterized in that the upper side member (12) and the guide rods (14) of the protective side rail (10, 11) consist of bars.
8. A bed side guard according to Claim 1 or any of the following claims, characterized in that the guide rods (14) are disposed in scissor-shaped relation to each other.
9. A bed side guard according to Claim 1 or any of the following claims, characterized in that at least the upper side member (12) and/or the guide rods (14) of the protective side rail (10, 11) consist of telescoping tubes.

A bed side guard according to Claim 1 or any of the following claims, characterized in that the upper side member of the bed side guard (8) is in each case provided with a recess (18) within the longitudinal area of the bed (1) in which the protective side rail (10, 11) is disposed completely or partly in its inactive - lowered - position.

A bed side guard according to Claim 1 or any of Claims 2 to 9, characterized in that the upper side member (19) of the protective side rail (10, 11) consists of two telescoped tubes, one of which tubes being mounted for pivotal movement about a horizontal swivel axis (22) at the patient-supporting frame, at a guide for the bed side guard (8), or at the bed side guide (8) itself in a vertical plane, while the other telescopic tube (25) is connected via a swivel axis (26) with a guide rod (27) which is also mounted for pivotal movement via a swivel axis (28) at the patient-supporting frame (4) or at the bed side guard (8) also in a vertical plane, and that the end section of the telecopic tube (23) facing the central longitudinal section of the bed (1) is provided with a handle (25) for the patient (9).
12. A bed side guard according to Claim 1 or any of the following claims, characterized in that the protective side rail is provided at its end section facing the central longitudinal section of the bed (1) with a handle (25) on which the patient can support himself.
