Abstract

In a folding device for rotary printing machines, the object consists in introducing a first transverse fold into signatures (5) at high production speeds whilst avoiding damage to the product. According to the invention, this takes place in that at least one single-step device (22, 27) is arranged between the collector drum (18) and the folding jaw cylinder (31) to reduce the speed of signatures. The inertia forces occurring are thus reduced as well as the negative influences of the whip effect at high speed.

Description

The invention relates to a folder for rotary printing presses according to the preamble of claim 1.

A folding apparatus for a rotary printing press has become known from US Pat. No. 4,159,823, in which, after the products have been cross-cut and the first cross-fold has been formed, the products are split into two deliveries, the conveying speed of the products being between the folding jaw cylinder and the delivery arranged gripper and transfer cylinder is adjustable by means of a gear so that the products are reduced in delivery speed in their conveying speed.

A disadvantage of this folding device is that at high production speeds on the folding jaw cylinder a so-called "whip effect" occurs due to the product to be folded, ie that the end of the product held by the gripper or by the puncture undergoes a reversal of direction after the first transverse fold has been formed, so that depending on the production speed and the weight of the product to be folded, large inertia forces are braked and must be accelerated again in the opposite direction. On the one hand, this can lead to the product slipping out of the gripper devices or to tearing off the product held with an increased clamping force from the holding devices.

The invention has for its object to provide a folder for high production speeds, in which damage to the product is avoided when producing the first transverse fold.

Erfindungsgemäß geschieht dies durch die Merkmale des kennzeichnenden Teils des Patentanspruches 1.According to the invention, this is done by the features of the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

The following advantages are achieved in particular by the invention:
The splitting of the products in the production direction behind the collecting cylinder into two product paths leading separately to the folding process and a subsequent one-stage or multi-stage delay of the unfolded signatures before the first transverse fold is formed ensures a reduced speed during the folding process in the case of an uncollected production (double production) and thus also occur to a lesser extent mass forces so that the negative effects of the whip effect, which can occur at high speed, are avoided. In addition, it is possible to up to the folder according to the invention in collective production to collect three times. It is also possible to use only one of the two product paths leading away from the collecting cylinder, particularly in the case of simply collected production. Furthermore, it is possible by the arrangement of a stapling cylinder also cooperating with the collecting cylinder, each signature z. B. in the line of alignment of the subsequent first cross fold with staples. This can be the case, in particular, for magazines produced by gravure printing.

The folder according to the invention has two side frames arranged parallel to one another, one of which however, only one side frame 1 is shown. A printed paper web 2 coming from a strand feed (not shown) passes through a first cross-cutting device 6 consisting of cutting and grooving cylinders 3, 4 for making a perforation cut in the paper web 2. A pair of pull rollers 7 is arranged upstream of this first cross-cutting device 6. In the area of the folder inlet there is also a second cross-cutting device 11 consisting of a cutting cylinder 8 and a grooved cylinder 9. The cutting cylinder 8 is provided with a cutting knife bar 12. The groove cylinder 9 has a groove strip 13 on its circumference. The second cross cutting device 11 is also assigned a pair of pull rollers 14. The second cross cutting device 11 separates the paper web 2 at the webs not yet cut by the first cross cutting device 6 into individual products, each designated 5. The second cross cutting device 11 is comprised of an acceleration section 16, 17, which can each consist of a driven belt guide system and feeds the signatures 5 to a seven-field collecting cylinder 18, which is equipped with seven known gripper systems 19 on its circumference. Instead of the gripper systems 19, punctures can also be provided if necessary. Immediately after the signature 5 has entered the collecting cylinder 18, e.g. B. a four-field stapling cylinder 21 may be arranged, which means if necessary his stapling heads, which are arranged on the circumference and are not shown, in the alignment of the cross fold to be introduced brings staples and in each case cooperates with an abutment (not shown) on the lateral surface of the collecting cylinder 18. Such a stapling device is described in DE - PS 11 89 562. On the circumference of the collecting cylinder 18, two four-field transfer cylinders 22, each with two known gripper systems 23, are arranged offset from one another. Known tape guidance systems 24, 26 are provided on the circumference of the collecting cylinder 18 between the stapling cylinder 21 and the first transfer cylinder 22 seen in the direction of rotation of the collecting cylinder 18 and between the first transfer cylinder 22 and the second transfer cylinder 22 viewed in the direction of rotation of the collecting cylinder 18. The peripheral speed of the cylinders 18, 22 can be more than 20 m / s. Downstream of the respective transfer cylinder 22 is a six-field gripper and folder knife cylinder 27, each with three gripper systems 28, which are mutually offset by 120 ° and arranged alternately, as well as folder knife systems 29 and a six-field folder cylinder 31, each with three folder systems 32. By arranging a gearbox to be described in more detail later, the running speed of the signatures 5 is reduced by approximately 25% by the transfer from the transfer cylinder 22 to the gripper and folding knife cylinder 27, so that the folded product, also denoted by 5, when the "whip effect" occurs during the folding process between the gripper and folding knife cylinder 27 and the folding jaw cylinder 31, its speed is reduced by about a quarter and thus by about half its mass forces. A known belt guide system 33 is arranged in the product running direction on the circumference of the gripper and folding knife cylinder 27 located between the transfer cylinder 22 and the folding jaw cylinder 31. A paper guide bracket 34 is provided in the direction of production behind the point of contact of the two cylinders 27, 31 with one another (plus product 5) in order also to reduce the effect of the "whip effect". The products 5, which are now provided with a first transverse fold and optionally stapled, are reduced in their running speed via a guide roller 36, 37, subsequently via a deflection roller 38 and a deceleration section consisting of two belt guide systems 39, 41, to a paddle wheel 43, which in turn reduces the Products 5 transferred to a cross fold delivery 44.

Die Zylinder 22, 27 fungieren somit als einstufige Vorrichtung zum Vermindern der Geschwindigkeit von Signaturen 5.Fig. 2 shows a plan view of a drive gear train of the cylinders with indicated axle journals 18c, 22c, 27c, 31c of the cylinders 18, 22, 27, 31. A bevel gear 47 connected to a main drive shaft 46 is connected to a drive gear 48 in a non-positive and positive manner. The gear 48 meshes with a gear 18a of the collecting cylinder 18. The gear 18a in turn meshes with a gear 22a of the transfer cylinder 22, which is non-positively and positively connected to a smaller gear 22b. The gear 22b meshes with a gear 27a of the gripper part of the gripper and folding knife cylinder 27, the reduction between the gears 22b, 27a being such that there is a reduction in the peripheral speed of approximately 25% between the cylinders 22, 27. The gear 27a is non-positively and positively connected to the gear 27b by means of a shaft. The toothed wheel 27b meshes with a toothed wheel 31a of the jaw cylinder 31. The toothed wheels mentioned are each held non-positively and positively by means of bearings and shafts in the side frame 1, which are not specified. With approximately the same diameters of the cylinders 22, 27 and a reduction in the speed of the cylinder 27 compared to the cylinder 22 due to the mentioned reduction, it is possible to equip the slower-running six-field gripper and folding knife cylinder 27 with three gripper systems 28 compared to the four-field system with two gripper systems 23 Transfer cylinder 22. The drive wheel train shown in FIG. 2 also applies analogously to the second product path, consisting of the double of the devices 22, 27 and 31. The drives for the stitching cylinder 21 and for the devices following the jaw cylinder 31 are not taken into account for the sake of simplicity . The gripper and folding knife part of the gripper and folding knife cylinder 27 is with a wheel set and differential, not shown connected for folding regulation. The cylinders 22, 27 thus function as a single-stage device for reducing the speed of signatures 5.

Dabei weisen die Zylinder 18, 22, 49, 27, 31 in Fig. 4 angedeutete Achszapfen 18c, 22c, 49c, 27c, 31c auf.3 shows a side view, reduced to the cylinders only, of a second exemplary embodiment of a folder according to the invention. 1, there is the peculiarity that between the four-field transfer cylinder 22 and the six-field gripper and folding knife cylinder 27, another four-field transfer cylinder 49 is interposed, which also has two gripper systems 23 like the transfer cylinder 22. A corresponding further reduction according to FIG. 4 between the gears 22b and 27a by interposing the gears 49a and 49b, which are positively and positively connected to each other, can reduce the peripheral speed by approximately 25% between the transfer cylinder 22 and the jaw cylinder 31 can be dismantled in two stages. As a result, this also applies to the reduction of mass forces. The cylinders 18, 22, 49, 27, 31 have axle journals 18c, 22c, 49c, 27c, 31c indicated in FIG. 4.

This two-stage device 22, 49, 27 is particularly advantageous for reducing the speed of signatures 5 in front of the jaw cylinder 31 in the case of double production. If production is collected several times, one of the product paths can be set up via a device 22, 27, 31, 38, 43, 48 can be switched off by known means.

It is also possible for the threading cylinder 49. 3 each sechsfeldrig 27 each achtfeldrig each having four by 90 ° offset from each other and according to Figure with three gripper systems and folding knife cylinder and the gripper equip alternately arranged gripper systems and Falzmessersystemen. The transfer cylinder 49 and the gripper and folding knife cylinder 27 each bring about a reduction in the peripheral speed of approximately 25%.
