Definitions
- the invention relates to a manually operated vacuum pump, in particular for pumping air out of smaller containers.
- the object of the present invention is to show a hand-operated vacuum pump which is inexpensive, simple to use and easy to transport, and nevertheless achieves a final vacuum of ⁇ 600 Pa.
- a two-stage compression is necessary to achieve the required final pressure.
- a piston is moved within a pump housing in such a way that it separates two chamber volumes and at the same time their volume varies. With each piston stroke, the gas volume is transferred from the first chamber to the second chamber. It is particularly advantageous if a flow channel with a check valve is attached in the piston itself. During the subsequent return transport of the piston, the gas located in the second chamber is compressed and blown out, while gas is drawn in from an upstream recipient in the first chamber.
- a piston rod In order to move the piston, a piston rod is necessary, which is passed through a chamber in a vacuum-tight manner. According to the invention, the piston rod is guided in the wall of the first chamber. This has the decisive advantage that when the suction line or the recipient is ventilated, the piston rod is drawn into the pump housing and is not catapulted out. Rapidly shooting out the pump rod could lead to dangerous injuries. If the piston rod were passed through the second chamber, the piston and piston rod would inevitably be pushed out of the housing when the vacuum was broken.
- the pump according to the invention is particularly simple if smooth-running check valves are installed both at the inlet and at the outlet of the pump. It is important to ensure that as little dead volume as possible is required to open the valves.
- the outlet opening of the pump has a connection option for pressure hoses.
- the vacuum pump can also be used as a pressure pump.
- the pump is also used as an air pump, e.g. B. for inflatable boats or bicycles. Due to this expanded area of application, the inevitably increased manufacturing effort compared to conventional pressure pumps is justifiable.
- the piston is equipped with a valve which represents the connection from the first to the second chamber.
- Check valves can also be used here.
- O-ring which opens or closes the flow path depending on the direction of movement of the piston, has proven particularly useful.
- the piston diameter can generally not be more than 50 mm.
- the suction volume should be relatively large in order to sufficiently evacuate the container to be evacuated in the shortest possible time and with as few operations as possible. It is therefore advantageous to actuate the vacuum pump according to the invention by foot. Since a greater expenditure of force is possible here, a larger cross section of the piston can also be realized. With the same suction volume, the piston stroke becomes smaller.
- the vacuum pump is used to evacuate sorption systems in which water is evaporated in a vacuum. Disruptive gases must be extracted from the vacuum pump.
- Suitable sorption systems in particular sorbent containers and adapters, are known from German patent applications DE 4243816 and DE 4243817.
- the left image of the schematic drawing shows how the piston rod is pressed into the pump housing in the direction of arrow A, while the right half shows how the piston rod is pulled out of the pump housing in the direction of arrow B.
- the pump housing consists of a round tube 1, in which a piston 2 is guided through the piston rod 3. Both ends of the round tube 1 are closed in a vacuum-tight manner with caps 4, 5 and O-rings 6, 7.
- the piston 2 separates the inner pump volume into two chambers I and II.
- the chamber volume I increases while the chamber volume II decreases at the same time.
- An O-ring 8 in the piston 2 bears against a sealing surface 9 of the piston 2, so that chambers I and II are fluidically separated from one another.
- the chamber volume I is increased while the chamber volume II is reduced.
- the intake valve 12 opens and releases the gas path C from a recipient, not shown, through an intake port 14, which contains a fine filter 15.
- the gas in chamber II is compressed until the blow-out valve 13 opens and releases the pumped gas in the direction of arrow D.
- the piston rod 3 is passed through the cover cap 5 and is also sealed by an O-ring 16.
- a handle 17 is located at the outer end of the piston rod 3.

Abstract
