Furthermore, the use of stamping foils, in particular hot-stamping foils, of a particular design is described in the case of such a process. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a method for decorating or inscribing a surface by means of laser radiation, wherein at least two differently colored layers of colored lacquer are applied one above the other and then at least the first color coating layer facing the viewer by means of the laser radiation removed to create the decoration or lettering and so the differently colored second color lacquer layer uncovered but not completely removed or removed, with at least the first colored lacquer layer is applied to the surface in a transfer process.

Baasel Lasertech angeboten. The method of the type mentioned is used in particular when it comes to an accurate Inscription or decoration for objects that are individual pieces or only in small quantities be made. The laser beam used to burn out the first colored lacquer layer can, with regard to its Motion path can be controlled very precisely, for example by means of an electron computer, it is also possible to change the strength of the laser line produced by the burnout. For Devices suitable for this process are commercially available and are offered, for example, by Baasel Lasertech.

Über die Aufbringung der äußeren Schicht enthält die Druckschrift jedoch keine Angaben.EP-A-0 383 956 also describes a method for producing security markings on a surface known in which an upper layer covered by a laser radiation absorbing layer of color is correspondingly exposed by removing the upper layer by means of a laser beam. About the Application of the outer layer, however, does not contain any information in the publication.

So far, one has proceeded so that the surface to be decorated, for example the front panel of a device, by means of usual process is provided with two differently colored layers of paint. The laser beam then turns the Removed the upper layer of lacquer and the according to the desired decoration or pattern or lettering lower layer of paint, which contrasts with the upper layer of paint, is exposed. However, the problem here is that with conventional lacquer layers there are variations in the thickness of the lacquer layer, with the result that with Burning off the upper layer of lacquer by means of the laser jet under certain circumstances this upper layer of lacquer in the areas in which it is relatively thick, is not completely removed. If you use a higher laser power, you can you can ensure that the upper layer of paint is reliably removed even where it is thicker. It exists then, however, there is the danger that in areas in which the upper lacquer layer is thinner, the lower lacquer layer is also attacked is what can go so far that the lower layer of paint is completely removed or at least severely damaged becomes. Another danger is that the line created by means of the laser beam is then when the lacquer layers differ are thick, in spite of constant laser power of different widths or thicknesses, which makes them natural the appearance of the appropriately decorated or labeled object is impaired. To one So far, one had to try to produce usable laser lettering with considerable effort to apply the top layer of lacquer to be removed by the laser beam in a thickness that is as uniform as possible the production of corresponding items has become very expensive, so that laser labeling or decoration So far only for a few areas of application, especially for high-quality or very expensive devices found.

A method is described in US Pat. No. 4,515,867 which allows one to belong together Attach a barcode to parts of TV picture tubes using laser radiation. Thereby, the surface of the parts made of glass applied a lower coating, the first of an aqueous suspension Pigment particles and a first alkali silicate binder is formed. After drying, apply to the bottom coating applied a top layer, also from an aqueous suspension of pigment particles and an alkali silicate binder is formed. To destroy the lower coating by laser radiation To prevent this, it contains a certain proportion of mica particles. After drying the bottom coating and the top layer at temperatures below 100 ° C, the latter is generated by laser radiation of the barcode removed in sections by means of laser radiation. Then the glass object with the generated barcode heated strongly, in this way to connect the coatings intimately with the glass surface.

Auf die Möglichkeit, nur eine oder mehrere der Schichten der Membran abzutragen, ist nicht hingewiesen.JP-A-1 (1989) -283.703 describes a method for producing a colored lens, in which one of the Opaque membrane covering the lens, consisting of several layers of paint or lacquer, by means of a Laser beam is provided with a variety of slits, the slits light with which the lens from the other Side is lit, should let through. The membrane consisting of several layers can, for example be applied in a hot stamping process. The laser beam used to create the slits cuts through in the known method in any case all layers of the membrane so that the actual lens is exposed becomes. The possibility of removing only one or more of the layers of the membrane is not indicated.

The aim of the invention is now to propose a method which allows it with comparatively little effort to achieve a perfect decoration or labeling of a surface using laser beam engraving.

For this purpose it is now proposed according to the invention in the method of the type mentioned at the outset to proceed that at least the first color lacquer layer by means of the first color lacquer layer on a Embossing film comprising carrier film, preferably hot stamping film, from the carrier film to the surface is transmitted.

It is known that layers of colored lacquer lie on a carrier, for example a plastic film or a metal strip can be applied or produced in a very uniform thickness without great effort. You transfer this Color coat then on the surface to be decorated, it is guaranteed that the surface to be decorated has a color lacquer layer with largely constant thickness. The performance of removing this layer of colored lacquer serving laser can then be easily adjusted according to the thickness of the colored lacquer layer become. If the laser beam is then moved over the surface to be decorated, only the upper or removed the first layer of colored lacquer, the lettering or engraving depth varying as a result of changing the laser power can be. any deviations from the desired image of the decoration or lettering as a result of Changes in the thickness of the first colored lacquer layer are not to be feared in a procedure according to the invention. The Transfer of the colored lacquer layer to the surface can be carried out by means of the known transfer processes without excessive Effort. According to the invention, a method is therefore proposed which allows the To significantly improve the quality of the decoration of a surface by means of laser ablation, without this being an excessive one constructive or equipment expenditure would be required.

Another advantage of the procedure according to the invention is that it is known to be without difficulty is possible, e.g. by means of a printing process, on a flexible support, e.g. a plastic film or one Metal tape, layers of paint only to be applied in certain areas, although of course there is also the possibility of different Area of differently colored paints. If one uses one from different colored areas for the decoration of the surface of an object, there are further Design options previously unattainable with reasonable effort. You can, for example, the Divide the decorating surface into different colored areas and then each with a laser beam label. This makes it e.g. possible, certain fonts on the front panel of a device in a different color Execute as the rest of the label to highlight this label or certain operations assigned. If you wanted to do this up to now, you had to cover the surface to be decorated accordingly then the individual areas in different work steps, for example with paints of the desired color squirt. It is obvious that with such a procedure it is almost impossible, even approximately to achieve the same thickness for the differently colored lacquer areas, after all the thickness of the lacquer layer both of the viscosity of the sprayed-on lacquer and of its pigmentation and flow properties depends.

It is particularly expedient if not only the first but also the first and the second colored lacquer layer in an embossing process from the carrier film of an embossing film, in particular hot stamping film, to the surface be transferred because of itself then let even greater accuracy be achieved. This procedure is especially useful if the second, lower colored lacquer layer consists of differently colored areas, which for example gives the possibility is given to attach differently colored labels on the front panel of a device, which means under Operation can be made considerably easier under certain circumstances.

In order to improve the mechanical resistance of the decorated surface, one can advantageously proceed as follows: that a transparent protective lacquer layer on the first color lacquer layer before or after laser processing is applied, which has a correspondingly high mechanical strength.

In practice, it is advisable to proceed in such a way that all layers of paint are embossed using in particular hot stamping foil, which are applied to a carrier film and removable thereon Has layers of paint. such Hot stamping foils can be readily used in those known from the manufacture of hot stamping foils Establish process.

Stamping foils, in particular hot stamping foils for use in the method according to the invention point one above the other at least a first and a second differently colored colored lacquer layer, the first colored lacquer layer is closer to the carrier film than the second. The two layers of colored lacquer are applied according to the the desired decorative effect, for example the first colored lacquer layer on the decorated object can be black, while the second color lacquer layer to be exposed by the laser beam, for example is white The properties of the colored lacquer layers can still be adjusted so that the first colored lacquer layer can be removed relatively easily by the laser beam, but otherwise comparatively good mechanical Has strength, while the second color lacquer layer, for example due to its coloring or by additions of the laser beam is attacked as little as possible. In such stamping foils, a polyester film is expediently used as the carrier film a thickness of 6 to 100 microns, preferably from 19 to 38 microns used. These films have sufficient Strength, but also flexibility to differentiate them as carriers when transferring the decorative layer from the carrier film to be able to use shaped surfaces. To transfer the decorative or colored lacquer layers from the Carriers on the surface to be decorated can use the methods known per se, for example Lifting process, rolling process, or also process in which the corresponding film is placed in an injection mold and then back injected with plastic to form an object, such as the front panel of a device becomes. A clear lacquer layer, preferably a thickness of 1 to 2 µm, can be provided as the protective lacquer layer which, if already present on the embossing foil, are also removed during laser engraving got to. It is advantageous if the second colored lacquer layer of the embossing film is thicker than the first colored lacquer layer, the The thickness of the second colored lacquer layer is preferably approximately 2 to 10 μm, and the thickness of the first colored lacquer layer is preferred is about 1 to 5 µm. The use of a comparatively thin first colored lacquer layer and one in contrast thicker second color coat gives the ability to remove the first color coat to be able to set the serving laser beam so high that the first layer of colored paint in the desired one is reliable Area completely removed, possibly even a small part of the second color lacquer layer removed is ensured, however, that a sufficiently thick remnant of the second color lacquer layer remains, on the one hand to give a perfect decoration picture, on the other hand a reliable protection of the surface the decorated object is guaranteed by the second layer of colored lacquer.

In the method according to the invention, an embossing foil, in particular hot stamping foil, comprising a carrier film, preferably made of polyester, on which a separating layer is successively arranged, optionally a protective lacquer layer, at least two differently colored color lacquer layers and an adhesive layer are arranged to produce the at least two differently colored color lacquer layers on one Surface used.

The hot stamping foil shown schematically in FIG. 1 comprises a carrier film 1, which is preferably here a polyester film with a thickness of 6 to 100 microns, preferably a thickness of 19 to 38 microns.

The following layers are present in succession on this carrier film 1, which in the production process itself conventional methods known from hot stamping foils are applied:

Trennschicht 2:Interface layer 2:

Die Trennschicht 2 hat im allgemeinen eine Dicke von höchstens 1 µm.This is generally a layer softening when exposed to heat, which is the detachment the further layers of the carrier film 1 are permitted. The separating layer 2 generally has a maximum thickness 1 µm.

Schutzlackschicht 3:Protective lacquer layer 3:

Sie hat im vorliegenden Fall beispielsweise eine Dicke von 1 bis 2 µm.It is a transparent lacquer layer with the task of covering the free surface with the hot stamping foil to largely protect decorated object against mechanical damage. The protective lacquer layer 3 must therefore be adequately resistant to mechanical influences. She has in present case, for example, a thickness of 1 to 2 microns.

Erste Farblackschicht 4:First colored lacquer layer 4:

This is, for example, a layer of lacquer correspondingly colored with carbon black about 1 to 5 µm, which can be removed with the help of a laser beam.

Zweite Farblackschicht 5:Second color lacquer layer 5:

This layer is colored differently than the first colored lacquer layer 4, for example when the first colored lacquer layer 4 is black, white or ivory.

However, there is also the possibility of not using the second colored lacquer layer 5 - just like the first colored lacquer layer 4 over the entire surface of the hot stamping foil and therefore not over the entire surface to be decorated in the same Color scheme to be provided. Rather, the color lacquer layers 4 and 5 can be individually - and therefore also different - be composed of different colored areas.

Kleberschicht 6:Adhesive layer 6:

This is an adhesive layer which is customary and known per se in hot stamping foils and has a thickness of about 1 to 10 µm, whereby the adhesive layer for a hot stamping foil is composed in such a way that it only takes Heat becomes sticky. For stamping foils that are to be processed without exposure to heat the adhesive layer also, for example, an adhesive that can be activated by pressure or a layer of a permanently sticky one Material. In the latter case, however, the carrier film 1 would then have to face away from the lacquer layers 3, 4, 5 Side with a coating, for example silicone, which prevents the adhesive layer 6 from adhering to the carrier film 1, be provided in order to be able to wind up the embossing foil accordingly.

Die Trennschicht 2, die Lackschichten 3 bis 5 sowie die Kleberschicht 6 können nach folgenden Rezepturen hergestellt sein: Trennschicht 2 Toluol 95 Teile Ethanol 5 Teile Esterwachs (Tropfpunkt 90°C) 0,1 Teile Schutzlackschicht 3 Methylethylketon 35 Teile Ethylacetat 10 Teile Cyclohexanon 8 Teile Methylmethacrylat (Erweichungspkt. 108°C) 8 Teile Hydroxyfunktionelles Acrylat (60% in EGA/Xylol 1:1, OH-Gehalt 4,4%) 4 Teile Hydroxyfunktionelles Acrylat (60% in EGA, OH-Gehalt 6%) 4 Teile Celiulosenitrat (niedrigviskos, 35% in Alkohol) 8 Teile Polyethylendispersion (24% in Xylol) 7 Teile Aromatisches Isocyanat (50% in Ethylacetat, NCO-Gehalt 8%) 16 Teile Erste Farblackschicht 4 (schwarz) Methylethylketon 30 Teile Butylacetat 98/100 28 Teile Cylohexanon 20 Teile PVC/PVA-Copolymer (85/15) 11 Teile Russ 11 Teile Zweite Farblackschicht 5 (weiss) Methylethylketon 38 Teile Aceton 11 Teile Cydohexanon 11 Teile Polyvinylbutyral (Erweichungspkt. 125°C) 6 Teile Lineares Polyurethan (Fp. 220°C) 8 Teile Ti02 26 Teile Kleberschicht 6 Toluol 15 Teile Aceton 15 Teile Ethanol 38 Teile Copolymeres Methyl-/n-butyl-methacrylat (40 % in Xylol; tg = 78°C) 15 Teile Polyethylmethacrylat (tg = 63°C) 5 Teile Polyvinylacetat (50 % in Ethanol) 4 Teile Si02 2 Teile Ti02 6 Teile The separating layer 2, the lacquer layers 3 to 5 and the adhesive layer 6 can be produced according to the following recipes: Interface layer 2 toluene 95 parts ethanol 5 parts Ester wax (dropping point 90 ° C) 0.1 parts Protective lacquer layer 3 methyl ethyl ketone 35 parts ethyl acetate 10 parts cyclohexanone 8 parts Methyl methacrylate (softening point 108 ° C) 8 parts Hydroxy-functional acrylate (60% in EGA / xylene 1: 1, OH content 4.4%) 4 parts Hydroxy-functional acrylate (60% in EGA, OH content 6%) 4 parts Celiulose nitrate (low viscosity, 35% in alcohol) 8 parts Polyethylene dispersion (24% in xylene) 7 parts Aromatic isocyanate (50% in ethyl acetate, NCO content 8%) 16 parts First colored lacquer layer 4 (black) methyl ethyl ketone 30 parts Butyl acetate 98/100 28 parts cyclohexanone 20 parts PVC / PVA copolymer (85/15) 11 parts Soot 11 parts Second color coat 5 (white) methyl ethyl ketone 38 pieces acetone 11 parts cyclohexanone 11 parts Polyvinyl butyral (softening point 125 ° C) 6 parts Linear polyurethane (mp. 220 ° C) 8 parts Ti0 2 26 parts Adhesive layer 6 toluene 15 parts acetone 15 parts ethanol 38 pieces Copolymer methyl / n-butyl methacrylate (40% in xylene; tg = 78 ° C) 15 parts Polyethyl methacrylate (tg = 63 ° C) 5 parts Polyvinyl acetate (50% in ethanol) 4 parts Si0 2 2 parts Ti0 2 6 parts

In Fig. 2a, a substrate 7, for example the front panel of a device, is shown in partial section, on the surface thereof 8 the lacquer layers 3 to 5 forming a release layer 9 and adhesive layer 6 of the hot stamping foil according to FIG Fig. 1 are attached in a conventional hot stamping process.

Starting from the essentially uniformly decorated surface according to FIG. 2a, a corresponding is then used Laser beam to achieve the desired decoration or lettering both the protective lacquer layer 3 as well as the first, in the exemplary embodiment assumed, black colored lacquer layer 4, namely in such a way that at the bottom 10 of the recessed areas 11 formed by removing the layers 3, 4, for example in Form of lines, letters, areas etc., the second one with different colors to the first colored lacquer layer 4 Color layer 5 appears. However, the ideal state is shown in FIG. 2b, which consists in that the removal of the lacquer layers by means of the laser beam exactly up to the beginning of the second colored lacquer layer 5 goes. In fact, one will generally proceed in such a way that a small amount of the colored lacquer layer 5 is also removed to ensure that the exposed areas of the second color lacquer layer 5 have a uniform appearance have. If the colored lacquer layer 5 over the surface of the object to be decorated from areas different color is composed, of course, the exposed parts 10 of the second color lacquer layer 5th accordingly have different colors.

In the exemplary embodiment, it was assumed that the protective lacquer layer 3 was already on the hot stamping foil is present, which has the consequence that the surface 10 of the second colored lacquer layer 5 in the case of a finished decorated product exposed. For certain applications, it may be desirable that this area is also protected. In this case there is either the possibility of using a hot stamping foil which has no protective lacquer layer 3 and then to apply a protective lacquer layer after the laser engraving, which then also fills the recessed areas 11. Another possibility that gives better mechanical strength is based on that State according to FIG. 2b additionally apply a further protective lacquer, which may then only be removed Fills areas 11.
