Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method for transferring products to be packaged in cartons and to a device for carrying out said method.
  • the metered product is fed into the carton by means of a conventional funnel-like conveyor below which the cartons to be filled are moved stepwise by adapted conveyor means of the cartoning machine.
  • the aim of the present invention is to solve the problem described above by providing a method which allows to rapidly transfer the products to be packaged and fill the related cartons.
  • an object of the present invention is to provide a device which carries out this method by means of a solution which is simple in concept, safely reliable in operation and versatile in use.
  • the present method for transferring products to be packaged in cartons which is characterized in that it comprises the steps of: feeding, by means of at least one static discharge point, of preset amounts of products to be cartoned to a first series of funnel-like conveyor elements which are carried and moved in succession by an upper carousel below said discharge point; feeding, with the amounts of products metered respectively to said first conveyors, of a second series of funnel-like conveyor elements which are carried and moved in succession by a lower carousel below said first conveyors at a higher speed than said first conveyors, so that the time required for the relative movement of said first conveyors with respect to said second conveyors is equal to, or greater than, the time required for the descent of said metered amounts of products to be cartoned from the first conveyors to the second conveyors; and feeding, by means of said second conveyors, of respective cartons conveyed in step below said second conveyors.
  • the reference numeral 1 generally designates an upper carousel which can rotate about a vertical axis 2 and which is peripherally provided with a first series of funnel-like conveyor elements 3 which are angularly distributed in a uniform manner.
  • said funnel-like conveyors are distributed along two adjacent concentric circumferences; for the sake of greater clarity, the conveyors distributed along the inner circumference of the carousel 1 are designated by 3a.
  • each of the first conveyors 3, 3a covers, at the upper loading inlet 4, 4a, an arc of circumference which is equal to 60 o .
  • the inner conveyors 3a are furthermore offset by 15 o with respect to the outer conveyors 3 at the respective upper loading inlets 4, 4a.
  • the first conveyors 3, 3a are suitable to be fed with preset amounts of products to be cartoned by means of two pairs of static discharge points 5, 5a and 6, 6a.
  • the static discharge points 5, 5a and 6, 6a with the related balances of a per se known type, are supported by a fixed frame, not illustrated in the drawing, above the carousel 1 and in diametrically opposite positions (see figure 3).
  • discharge point of the metering balances 5, 5a and 6, 6a covers an arc of approximately 15 o along the upper loading inlet 4, 4a of the conveyors 3, 3a.
  • the reference numeral 7 designates a lower carousel which is coaxial to the upper carousel 1 and which can rotate in the same direction, indicated by the arrow A, at twice the speed.
  • the lower carousel 7 is peripherally provided with a second series of funnel-like conveyor elements 8, 8a, respectively internal and external ones, which are angularly uniformly distributed along concentric circumferences which correspond to those of the first conveyors 3, 3a.
  • the second conveyors 8, 8a equally cover, at the upper loading inlet 9, 9a, an arc of circumference equal to 60 o .
  • the inner conveyors 8a are offset by 30 o with respect to the outer conveyors 8 at the respective upper loading inlets 9, 9a; the inner conveyors 8a are furthermore appropriately inclined in a radial direction with respect to the carousel so that their lower discharge outlets are interposed, along the same circumference, with respect to the discharge outlets of the outer conveyors 8.
  • the second conveyors 8, 8a are suitable to be fed by the first conveyors 3, 3a and to feed, in turn, respective cartons 10 which are conveyed in step below said second conveyors 8, 8a.
  • the cartons 10 are conveyed along a conveyance line which is associated with the metering device along an arc of 180 o , between an entry region 11 and an exit region 12 which are arranged in diametrically opposite positions.
  • the reference numerals 13 and 14 designate the input and output arms of said conveyance line.
  • the static discharge points 5, 5a and 6, 6a are arranged, with respect to the axis of the machine, according to the number of conveyors which compose the carousels.
  • the lower carousel 7 is rotated at twice the speed of the upper carousel 3. This allows to double, in practice, the extent of the product loading angle from the discharge points of the balances 5, 5a and 6, 6a to the cartons 10 or, in other words, to double the time available to fill the cartons, consequently allowing to double the production rate.
  • the second conveyors 8 move with respect to the first conveyors 3 at a relative speed which is equal to the difference between the rotation rates of the lower carousel 7 and of the upper carousel 1; accordingly, in a preset time the second conveyors 8 move by the amount D (actually an arc of a circumference) which is the difference between the width of their loading inlet 9 and the width of the discharge outlet of the related first conveyors 3 (see in particular figure 4a); said movement D substantially corresponds, for this specific case, to an arc of 45 o .
  • the first conveyors 3 move by a corresponding amount D with respect to the discharge point 5 of the balances.
  • the balance 5 is initially aligned with the front end of the upper loading inlet 4 of the first conveyor 3; the lower discharge outlet of the conveyor 3 is in turn aligned with the front end of the upper loading inlet 9 of the second conveyor 8 (figure 4a).
  • the product metered by the discharge point 5 thus flows through said conveyors 3 and 8 into the carton 10 which moves in step with the second conveyor 8. Due to the higher rotation rate of the carousel 7 with respect to the carousel 1, the second conveyor 8 advances progressively with respect to the first conveyor 3 (figure 4b).
  • the discharge point 5 At the end of the carton filling step, the discharge point 5, the first conveyor 3 and the second conveyor 8 are aligned at the respective rear ends (figure 4c).
  • the angular rotation available for the descent of the product into the conveyor 8 is thus 90 o in all, and is equal to the arc covered by the cartons 10 between the discharge point 5 and the region 12 for exit from the filling device (figure 3).
  • the cartons are filled by the internal conveyors 3a, 8a, which are fed by the discharge point 5a, in a fully similar manner.
  • the discharge points 6 and 6a arranged in diametrically opposite positions, in turn pour a metered amount of product alternatively into the conveyors 3, 3a which pass at them.
  • the product then descends into the underlying second conveyors 8, 8a, which are conveniently closed downward by respective shutters of a known type which are not illustrated in the drawings.
  • Said shutters are opened at the input station 11 of the cartons 10, so as to allow the descent of the product into said cartons.
  • the illustrated method allows to rapidly fill cartons with metered amounts of products, so as to achieve very high productivity.
  • This method is furthermore performed by means of a device which is constructively simple and which can be easily applied to normal cartoning lines.
  • the materials employed, as well as the shapes and dimensions, may be any according to the requirements.
