Description

The present invention relates to a method for instantaneous validation of actions in the context of television broadcasts and to an implementation device.

Teleshopping as it is currently practiced by distributors of television programs, generally consists of presenting various objects during a specialized program and asking interested viewers to telephone a reservation organization, communicating to it if necessary. , their bank card number.

Such a method is not very fast or reliable, since the telephone communications last a considerable time and can therefore discourage people who are unable to obtain the communication if there is at the same time a large number of calls, and do not identify their origin.

In addition, this method does not allow viewers to participate in certain games requiring an instant response or at a specific time. It also does not make it possible to determine whether all the viewers who answered questions asked during this program actually watched this program. In the context of a television system, document EP-A-0 309 326 describes on the other hand a system for measuring the rate of viewing of programs.

The subject of the present invention is a method of safe and practically instantaneous validation of an action in the context of television broadcasts. The present invention relates in particular to a teleshopping method allowing a large number of viewers to order almost instantaneously the object or objects which interest them (s), and allowing program distributors to be assured that the maximum number of interested viewers can actually order the desired items.

The present invention also relates to a method of validating an action, within the framework of television broadcasts, which allows at least some of the viewers to participate in games or contests by providing at determined times and according to modalities. determined, answers to questions posed during these broadcasts, and this, in an irrefutable manner, and which also allows the producers or advertisers of these broadcasts to know in an almost certain way that the viewers who answered the questions asked during broadcasts watch these shows.

The present invention also relates to a device for implementing the above-mentioned method, a simple device and as reliable as possible.

The method according to the invention, implemented in a television network in which the receivers are equipped with microprocessor card readers, consists in sending by the transmitter, during the periods of time when the viewers are likely to react at transmissions, at least one piece of information making it possible to authenticate at determined times the reaction of interested viewers, who, by reacting, trigger the confidential processing of this information in their microprocessor card, this processing producing other information which they return immediately or offline to the issuer.

According to an advantageous aspect of the method of the invention, the information sent by the transmitter comprises an identification datum (relating to the emission), a datum datum, and a datum, if necessary evolving, making it possible to authenticate the reaction of the concerned viewers and the viewers themselves.

According to the invention, the transmitter of a television network comprises means producing authentication data, this data comprising data identifying program content, date and possibly selection of viewers. In each concerned receiver of the network, the microprocessor card reader device, comprises means for exchanging information with microprocessor cards and means making it possible to control the display of data produced by microprocessor cards cooperating with the reader device.

The present invention will be better understood on reading the detailed description of an embodiment, taken by way of nonlimiting example and illustrated by the appended drawing, the single figure of which is a simplified block diagram of a television network. according to the invention.

The television network 1 shown in the drawing comprises a transmitter 2 and a large number of receivers. Only one of these receivers, referenced 3, has been shown in the drawing.

The receiver 3 comprises, in addition to its usual devices, a reader 4 of microprocessor cards. Such a card 5 has been shown in the drawing.

The transmitter 2 includes a device 2 ′ for producing identification and authentication data described in detail below.

All the receivers of network 1 are not necessarily equipped with a microprocessor card reader, but, preferably, the majority are equipped with it, such as for example the receiver 3. The reader 4 of this receiver 3 comprises in addition to its usual circuits, a device 4 ′ for exchanging information with the card 5 and for controlling the display of messages, for example on the screen of the cathode ray tube 3 ′ of this receiver.

We will first describe the process allowing viewers, whose receivers are equipped with readers such as reader 4, to carry out "teleshopping".

During a teleshopping program, the hosts of this program present one or more articles. When the presentation of an article is finished, one of the employees of the transmitting station orders the production by device 2 ′ a first encrypted item of information I1 = ID + D + X which is immediately broadcast by the same channel as the transmissions of the transmitter 1. In the expression of I1, ID is a datum enabling the item proposed to be identified, and, if applicable, its price and / or optional characteristics (color, spointure, etc.). D is the current date, and, if applicable, the current time. "X" is a data allowing to select a part of the televiewers (for a given region, for a given socio-professional category ...) if one wishes that only this part of the televiewers can react to the emission. The information I1 can implicitly integrate the components ID and D: it can be a number evolving as a function of time according to a law making it possible to deduce a given instant by knowing the value of I1 at this instant, and in addition, the value of I1 may depend on the items offered, their price, etc ...

The information I1 cooperates with authentication data of the user of the receiver 3 stored in a protected section of the memory of the card 5 (these data can neither be read nor modified from outside the card). These authentication data are for example those of a control algorithm of a combinatorial process acting on the information I1 this process being unique for each card, therefore making it possible to identify the owner of the card. The result of the combination is displayed on the screen 3 if a button 6 of the receiver 3 is pressed. This result is here called "Y". Given that the number Y was obtained by a secret combinatorial process, it can be estimated that this number makes it possible to authenticate with the maximum possible security the process of the card and its action.

L'écran 3′ affiche la valeur de Y correspondant à cet article et à l'instant de manipulation du bouton 6.When an article presented interests a viewer, and the latter wants to order it, he immediately presses button 6 of the receiver 3. The screen 3 ′ displays the value of Y corresponding to this article and the instant of manipulation button 6.

The viewer communicates on a delayed basis (by post, by "Minitel", by telephone, etc.) or immediately if there is a return path from receiver 3 to transmitter 2 (cable network, modem, etc.). ), the number Y to receive the selected item and have their bank account debited, if applicable (for example by communicating their credit card number), for the amount of the item's price, or the amount still to be paid ( if part of the price has been charged to the card 5).

Thus, thanks to the invention, all viewers can instantly order the article which interests them, without having to wait for a telephone line from the station of the transmitter to be released, and the body managing the station can be assured that the maximum number of interested viewers have placed an order for the articles presented, and that all the orders which reach it are authentic and serious.

The method of the invention also makes it possible to organize games or surveys in which all viewers with a receiver such as receiver 3 can participate. In this case, instead of the simple contactor controlled by the button 6, it is possible to arrange in the receiver 3 a keyboard for entering data. The information I1 then has components which are a function of the games and the responses to be provided there: in addition to the components D and ID, it is for example possible to provide components relating to different multiple choice question responses. The response (s) produce corresponding Y numbers which viewers transmit to the transmitting center after playing. In some cases, so as not to need a data entry keyboard and to be satisfied with button 6, it is possible to provide, for example for multiple choice questions, to present the different possible answers at different times sufficiently spaced from each other to take into account the reaction times of viewers, the information I1 being modified for each of these moments. Thus, different values of I1, producing corresponding and different values of Y, correspond to different possible answers to the same question, one of which must be validated by the viewers by manipulation of the button 6.

L'information I1 est transmise, de façon connue en soi, dans les lignes inutilisées par l'image des trames vidéo émises par l'émetteur 2.The information I1 is transmitted, in a manner known per se, in the unused lines by the image of the video frames transmitted by the transmitter 2.
