Abstract

The sealing strip has two anchoring lips (1, 2), with which it can be anchored in the groove, which fits it, of a frame, and also a sealing lip (5). This seals with its outermost part, the tip (13), by bearing against a wing. In order to be able to guide the strip around the corners of the frame during mounting on the same, a notch (9) is made in the usual way, which makes possible bending by 90 DEG . In order that, during this bending, no material accumulations occur on the sealing lip in those places where it is supposed to seal, it is arranged in such a manner that it extends from a place close to one anchoring lip (2) in such a direction that its tip (13) is situated essentially in the region of the outer side (6a) of the lip base (6). During bending, the bowed piece (16) of the sealing lip tip (13) thus created has approximately the same length as the corresponding straight section before. As a result, material accumulations are avoided and this tip bears over its entire length against the wing without buckling so that a reliable seal is guaranteed. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a sealing profile strip made of elastic material for a window frame or sash, for warp-free bending of its sealing part around the corners of the frame or sash, this strip having a base with a plurality of lips protruding from it, serving to anchor the strip near that edge the base, which comes to lie within the said groove, and has a sealing lip which is intended to lie under deformation against the wing or against the frame, is located near the other edge of the base which lies outside the groove, and is connected to the base via a supporting rib, which has its beginning at this, but progressively moves away from it in the course.

Such sealing profile strips are used to seal the gap between a fixed frame and a movable window sash. There is a groove on the frame that runs around all four sides and into which the sealing profile strip is inserted. With its sealing lips, it then lies in a known manner against the movable wing, which deforms these sealing lips when they are closed, so that a good sealing effect is achieved by their contact.

The main problem with this type of sealing is the formation of the corners, that is, the point at which the sealing profile strip changes from the groove on one side of the frame to the adjacent groove lying at 90 ° to it. You can't just bend the bars by this angle because that would lead to material jams; It should be borne in mind that because of its arrangement in the frame, the bar must be bent around its narrow side, in a direction in which it opposes this bending with the greatest resistance. This would also lead to the large material jams mentioned, especially in the hard part of the sealing profile strip. For this reason, measures to train this corner area must be provided for the time being.

Previous measures for forming the bar at the corners of the frame consisted in cutting the bar at 45 ° and then welding on another piece, which was also cut at 45 °, but in mirror image, or by attaching separate, prefabricated corner pieces. With both measures, welding processes are necessary, which not only extend the assembly time, but also create sealing problems due to the unavoidable welding brow that can hardly be overcome, even with the most careful execution.

The idea was therefore no longer to make the cuts mentioned at 45 ° through the entire bar at the first-mentioned measure. One was content with a V-shaped notch, the flanks of which are exactly at 90 ° to each other. This miter cutting removes the welding, but the sealing problems remain. The reason is that when cutting, the outer sealing lip is also gripped, especially if you make the notch deep; the cut surfaces no longer lie exactly on top of one another after being bent through 90 °. If you make the notch less deep for this reason, material strains occur especially at the outermost area of the sealing profile strip due to the different bending radii, but further inside material congestion and thus warpage in the sealing lip, which reduces its effect.

The task is therefore to design the cross section of the sealing profile strip so that these disadvantages are avoided. In the previously known prior art, no attention was paid to this, which is why none of those sealing profile strips is suitable for this.

Among other things, it has an elastically deformable, parallelogram-shaped body, in which one wall forms the base and another wall, which arises from it and moves away from it, forms the supporting rib, on which the sealing lip sits at one end. Because of the other task, the latter extends towards the cross-sectional center and has its sealing tip there. This would cause this tip to lie exactly in the above-mentioned notch, i.e. cut away when it was attached. To avoid this, the notch would have to be so small that a large part of the cross-section would not be cut and could therefore only be bent under warping. A variant of this profile strip, in which the sealing lip does not sit at its end but in the middle on the supporting rib, cannot be used for the intended purpose simply by cutting away the part protruding against the cross-sectional center. The other part, which points towards the outer edge of the sealing profile strip, would be too short for a seal itself and would also lose its connection to the base when the notch is cut, because the supporting rib supporting it has its connection point to the base too far inside, i.e. in the area of the notch .

These disadvantages can be avoided by the sealing profile strip according to the invention. It is marked by the characterizing features of claim 1.

This gives the bar a redesigned cross-section compared to conventional bars. With this, the task set could be solved and thus a substantially time and cost saving assembly was made possible. This will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings; show it:

Figures 1a and 1b show a sealing profile strip of the previously known type. The three inner lips 1 ', 2' and 3 'serve essentially to anchor the strip in a groove 4 of the frame shown in Figure 2; their number is not essential here. However, the outer sealing lip 5 'is important for the present invention. It has a root 7 projecting perpendicularly from a base 6 of the strip and projects from it towards the center of the cross-section of the strip. It is this sealing lip 5 'that bears against the movable wing 8 (FIG. 2) and thereby effects a seal along its circumference.

So that the sealing profile strip can be guided around the corners of the frame, it is provided at those points with a V-shaped notch 9 ', which is generally formed by punching out. The resulting cut surfaces, generally designated 10 'and 11', are each at 45 ° to the longitudinal axis of the bar and thus form an angle of 90 ° with each other. Due to the bend in the corner, which also has an angle of 90 °, the cut surfaces 10 ′, 11 ′ mentioned come to lie on one another. With a reasonably carefully executed punching out, this lying on top of one another even results in a sufficient sealing effect.

However, that of the outer sealing lip 5 'remains problematic. It makes no great difference whether the notch 9 'is punched into the bar to such an extent that this sealing lip 5' is also cut, as indicated by the notch 12 in FIG. 1a, or whether it remains entirely in accordance with FIG. 1b . However, a notch in this sealing lip always means a gap after the bending, even if the cut surfaces of this notch match so precisely, and thus a leak. If, for these reasons, one avoids such a notch 12 in the sealing lip 5 ', then this occurs, which is clearly shown in FIG. 1b, namely a bulging of the sealing lip 5' at its foremost edge, its so-called tip 13 '. The reason for this is that, after bending, this tip lies on an arc, the radius of which is considerably smaller than that of the root 7, because this tip is closer to the center of the bar, that is, further inside than the root 7. This causes a jam the material and deviates either upwards as shown in Figure 1b, or downwards when the wing (not shown here) presses on the tip 13 '. It can also very often happen that the material is shifted towards both sides of the arch due to the fact that the wing rests on it, thus forming a type of wave structure. As always Finally, this training may be, but it is certain that the tip 13 'does not rest continuously and that at least one large or several small gaps are formed, through which the moisture can pass. It is now also understandable why the measures mentioned at the beginning have been used to achieve a perfect seal.

However, this can now be dispensed with. The solution is to reshape the sealing strip, giving it a different cross-section. This is shown in Figure 2. It is irrelevant that there are only two anchoring lips 1, 2 here (functionally identical parts are identified with the same reference numbers, but without a line). You are also in this bar on that edge of the base 6, which is the inner with respect to the frame and is therefore designated 6 '. Incidentally, they are shown here in the undeformed state, that is to say before they are inserted into the groove 4 of the frame already mentioned and shown in broken lines. After insertion, they lay against the walls of this groove 4 under deformation, which gives the sealing profile strip the necessary hold.

Now, however, the position of the sealing lip 5 is essential. This now runs from approximately the center of the bar, ie from a point that is located near the anchoring lips 1, 2 to the outside, ie approximately parallel to the base 6, and thus precisely vice versa as the sealing lip 5 '. In contrast to the tip 13 ', its tip 13 therefore lies entirely on the outer edge of the strip, that is to say approximately above the outer edge 6a of the base 6. Because of the reverse course, it is necessary to support the sealing lip 5 differently than in FIG. 1b; with advantage, a support rib 14 is provided for this purpose, which engages at its end on the edge of the base 6 and thus also initiates the pressure which arises from the resting of the wing 8 on the sealing lip 5 in the base, as does the root 7 at the base 6 'performed. The support rib 14 merges at the other end into the anchoring lip 2 and has an elevation 15 in the vicinity thereof, which acts as a type of sealing lip and thus supports the sealing lip 5.

The advantages of this reversal of the sealing lip 5 can be seen in FIG. 3b. When punching out the notch 9 (FIG. 3a), it is still gripped by the punching tool, but only at its root and only to a small extent. The sealing part, tip 13, remains intact. Since it also lies on the outer edge of the strip, that section which is bent when the strip is bent by 90 ° according to FIG. 3b becomes an arc with the largest radius. The length of this arc 16 is therefore practically equal to the length of the corresponding straight section in Figure 3a; any differences are so small that they can be compensated by the elasticity of the material. Thus, there are no material jams and therefore no undulating deformations when the wing 8 comes to rest on this tip 13. Rather, this is applied continuously to it, whereby a continuous seal is achieved at the point on the sealing profile where it is most important. All previous measures for sealing at the corners of the frame 4 are thus superfluous; the strip can be attached to the frame continuously, directly from the roll, without wasting time on sealing in the corners.

Material build-up occurs here also on the sealing lip 5; as a rule, a funnel 17 is formed where the two flanks 10 and 11 of the notch 9 (FIG. 3a) come together (FIG. 3b). However, this is at a point at which the sealing lip 5 no longer lies fully against the wing anyway, or at most with a slight pressure. The most important sealing effect, namely that at the tip 13, remains unaffected.

Since such sealing profile strips have been developed primarily for frames and sashes made of wood, it is particularly advantageous if the strip is made from two materials with different hardness, as is shown by different hatching in FIG. 2. When using plastic, such substances with different hardness can be extruded without problems and combine to form a whole. The lower part in FIG. 2, i.e. the base 6, the anchoring lip 1 and a part of the lip 2, consist of the harder material, which is able to withstand any deformation forces which arise from the bending without mutual displacement of the two, which are perpendicular to one another Include sections of the bar, while the soft material includes the tip of the anchoring lip 2, the support rib 14 and the sealing lip 5 and thus adapts well to any unevenness in the wood to ensure a perfect seal.

Claims (2)

  1. Sealing strip made of elastic material, for window frames and wings, for bending its sealing part without warping it around the corners of the frame or the wing, the sealing strip having a base (6) with several lips (1, 2) radiating therefrom for anchoring the strip in a groove (A) of the frame respectively of the wing close to that edge (6i) of the base that comes to rest within said groove, the strip further having a sealing lip (5) which is intended to lie against the franie respectively the wing under elastic deformation and stays closely to the other edge (6a) of the base (6) which is intended to lie outside of the base (6); the sealing lip being connected to it by means of a supporting rib (14) which initiates at the base but increasingly deviates from it over its length, characterized in that the sealing lip (5) extends from its junction point with the supporting rib (14), said point being distant from each edge (6i, 6a), substantially parallelly to the base only in direction towards the edge (6a) outside of the groove (4) and ends with its tip (13) which effects the sealing at least closely to a line that extends perpendicularly to the base from said edge (6a), and that the initial part of the supporting rib (14) is located at this edge (6a), too.
  2. Sealing strip according to Claim 1, characterized in that the supporting rib (14) ends on its extension deviating from the base (6) at that anchoring lip (2) that is least distant from said base edge (6a).
